You dont get real coverage from it. Focus Blast is for the Metalynx check, but do note that a fully invested SpDef Careful Metalynx will still tank focusblast and can hit back with Earthquake.
I doubt that there will be many fully invested Careful Metalynx in competitive play. Foregoing any Defense investment will make Lynx unable to hold its own against many physical attacks.
