Never played Dark Souls myself, but I've seen plenty of breakthroughs to know that its a quality game, through and through! Best places I like would be the Archives and Ash Lake, as they're both pretty and have plenty of lore significance behind them! Don't think I'll ever play it myself, though, as I've played its faster paced and much iterated upon 'sequels' Bloodborne and Sekiro , which would make trying to tackle it a rather uncomfortable experience. If I want to play an retro/slow paced Souls game, I'd try to get Demon Souls running on my PC, since I just adore that game in general.

I think my favorite place is Anor Londo. The place have most gorgeous looking in all Dark Souls game. No wonder is called Home of the Gods. Not to mentioned having lot of secrets.

Demons Souls is pretty awesome too. I just think the final boss is pretty much...'meh' if you know what I mean. I know there a reason behind it and be a ironic twist, but I think there was better ways in show that.

More like Arc Demon I suppose.
