A little question Dragonstrike: Is there any other path we could go to reach our goal to get to Machamp? Is that any other path we didn't go through yet? Or that darkness is the only path we didn't explore yet?

The dark, sloping path down that Marcus says likely leads to the next floor is the only place you haven't explored on this floor yet.

Do note that while you didn't succeed on the contested roll, you didn't outright fail either, so Vilucard's position hasn't changed significantly yet.
