[Meta Thread] Pokerole Mystery Dungeon: Primal Shadows
(08-30-2022, 08:35 PM)Dragonstrike Wrote: The gang's all here, and it's finally time for the final preparations for Team OS's next adventure!  We even have a certain surprise guest~  You didn't think I'd forgotten about them, did you?  Ohohohohoho~

Been awhile, but that just makes it all the sweeter for it's arrival! I actually forget about Hoopa, to be honest, but I do like how you managed to work them into the set-up since I like how mischevious the fellow is!

Alright, so we have a choice of an extra NPC party member we can bring along to the Great Glacier, so we got to decide who'll be the + 1 , so to speak. Looking at our Party Comp so far....

* We got Kee, a Normal/Dark type Mixed Attacker with a real go-getter and sporadic attitude, able to do serious work with Headbutt as well as wear down groups of Pokemon with Snarl in addition to being the party's resident Item gopher.
* We got Kogeki, a Ghost type that a speedy attacker specialist that leads himself well to lightning fast assault or maneuvering around all sorts of terrain, and is perhaps the most adept at using Tools or Items in a variety of creative and deadly ways.
* We got Platina, a Steel/Flying type that is working on becoming the party's diplomatic face, but is a quite competent at the blunter aspects of negotiating between her Keen Eye and being remarkably speedy for being made partially of dense and heavy metal.
* We got Keldeo, a Water/Fighting type that may or may not be low-key busted powerwise, and is an eager enough addition to the team even with him prior mumness.

In terms of coverage against the no doubt freezing scads of Ice types and hardier 'mons, Platina and Keldeo have that covered between their respective STABs, and I believe Kogeki may have something in the way of a Fighting type Move in his arsenal. The team also doesn't have many glaring weaknesses between them, save for the shared Electric one between again Platina and Keldeo, and that later is good at fending off any possible Dark types or Fire types that would prey on the dread dead anubis or my shiny bird. In terms of mobility, however, only Platina has Flight, while Kogeki has Quick Attack and his ninja training for moving around Terrain in unconventional way and Keldeo likely has some tricks or plain and simple power to get himself by just fine, leaving Kee as the most limited when it comes to how he has to navigate a MD.

So, based on the above, we need either another mobile powerhouse on the team to go Full Assault Mode on the MD and help Kee bypass any of it's more obnoxious difficulty, or a specialist that fills in the a gap in our roles, be that as a Cleric, a Buffer, and Anti-Multi Mob sweeper, someone that can easily draw aggro and tank for the team, or a 'mon that can open holes in an enemy's defenses for the rest to funnel right through. With that said, let's look on the options we have on offer....

- Virizion is overall a fantastic all arounder unit. They have Magical Leaf for good stab and as Spread coverage, Quick Attack for Priority and mobility, Helping Hand/Leer/potentially Coaching for supporting the team, Double Kick as awesome Mult-Hit STAB that can blitz weaker targets, and potentially bunker busters such as Leaf Blade, Giga Drain, and Sacred Sword for tough situations. Problem is that their is some sort of history between them and Keldeo that is causing some issues on his end, and as a part Grass type she's going to get as good as she gives from the Ice types them. Overall, a solid, if someright risky choice.
- Emolga is natural pest for enemies between Nuzzle, Encore, and possibly Light Screen, they have the Flying Type as mobility , Quick Attack for Priority, and Discharge is they're OP and the situation is dire enough for a AoE Move. Emolga are not know for utilizing their Flying typing outside of moving around and Acrobatics, however, with the former likely a problem in the cold and Icy MD without a resistant Typing like Steel to ablate it, and the later forcing them to run without an Item if they want a strong STAB. They not the greatest choice, but Nuzzle is a seriously good Move just for the overall advantage it gives gives due to Paralysis being wonderful at shutting down anybody with a DEX higher than 1, so it may be worth bring them alone for it and their other party tricks.
- Dunsparse is actually much in the same boat as Emolga, in mainly being a supportive axillary attacker that has some flight capabilities, but they trade away Priority and AoE Damage for a wider pool of debuffs and debuff adjacent attacks like Screech, Glare, Yawn, Body Slam, Mud Slap to really make a mob day go from fine to total suckage in a few quick Moves. If we take them we're going to be doubling up on Fighting type weaknesses, unfortunately, and Dunsparase don't get many heavy hitting Moves outside of Body Slam and the upper-limit of their Learnset, which we have no way of guaranteeing they even know such moves outside of grilling the fellow for details.

I'll get to the other two ones later, as I'm tired and need my rest for a busy day tomorrow. Suffice to say about them, though, they're nasty strong and no doubt have their ways of neutralizing the inherent difficulties they'll face in the Great Glacier. Almost all be stated by our choices available, anybody have a preference for one or another? Or something else to be added to the discussion?
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.
