[Game Thread] Pokerole: Mount Coronet Mystery
(Pressure's text also specifically says to round down.  Also, given how the original rules allow for you to issue conditional orders for Detect and Protect and the like the same way you can do so for Evasion, I'll allow that in this game!  And yes, I'll rule that Strike and Knockdown count as unique moves in League battles.)

Interesting strategy, letting Weavile go first.

Randolph vs Candice Round 6

Weavile's a little overconfident at first, having planned her strategy out already.  She charges immediately to hit that frail rival Dark type where it hurts!  She's going to make mince meat of...

...then Diam becomes enveloped in a sphere of rainbow colored light right before the attack connects!

Detect 1
5* + 2 + 2 - 2 = 7 D6
(4)(4)(5)(5)(5)(2)(1)

Ice Punch 1
12 - 2 = 10
(5)(5)(5)(2)(4)(2)(3)(5)(2)(4) Good thing Diam used Detect.  Critical hit!
4 + 3 + STAB - 5 + 2 Crit - 3 Detect = 2 D6
(5)(2) Diam takes 1 damage 7/8 HP
(2) Nope

As Weavile's fist mostly bounces off of that sphere of rainbow colored light, the transformation completes!  Diam is now fully Mega Evolved, her full glory revealed!  She makes a face at Weavile, taunting the kitty with the reflection in the gigantic gem.

This just makes Weavile more determined to show this gemlin who's the boss here!

Night Slash 2
12 - 4 = 8 D6
(3)(4)(3)(1)(3)(1)(5)(4)
(6)(3)(1) Diam takes 1 damage 6/8 HP -1 Pain

Diam wags a finger at Weavile.  Nu-uh.  You're not getting away with that so easily!

Then her gem starts glowing...

Metal Burst 2
2 + 3 + 2 - 4 - 1 = 2 D6
(4)(1) ...and explodes with light!
(6)(5)(3)(4)(1) Weavile takes 3 damage! 5/8 HP -1 Pain

Weavile recoils in surprise after taking such a staggeringly powerful blow from a wall of all things.  What the...?

Bah, no matter!  This Sableye isn't getting the better of her today!  She'll show 'em what a real counterattack looks like!

Weavile's waiting...

...and Diam's all too eager to hit back!

She focuses even more light in her gem...

Flash Cannon 3
4* + 3 + 2 - 6 - 1 = 2 D6
(5)(4) ...and fires it out of it in an explosive shot of even more pure light energy!
2 + 3 - 4 Sp Def + SE = 1 D6 + 1 damage (maybe a little underwhelming right now, but this is her first time using the move, so cut her some slack!)
(5) Weavile takes 2 damage! 3/8 HP -2 Pain
(1)

Weavile fires back with an...

Avalanche!! 3
12 - 6 - 2 = 4 D6
(6)(4)(3)(4)
(4)(2)(5)(1) Diam takes 2 damage. 4/8 HP -2 Pain

That's all Weavile can do this Round, though, since her opponent is immune to Brick Break.  She's huffing and puffing, trying to figure out how in the heck she got damaged so badly this Round by a wall of all things, and how she can get some payback in the next one...

"Hey Randolph, by the way, how'd you teach your Sableye how to use Flash Cannon?  I'm not an expert on the Steel type for obvious reasons, but I'm pretty certain I haven't ever seen or heard about a Sableye using that move before."

The Tailwind peters out.

(Yeap, and it works, since it forces Weavile to be proactive with Attacks instead of reactive with Evasion. Time to move on to the next part of my plan.)

The gem goblin, once she digs herself out of the wake of the avalanche (Easily done, given she's clawed her way through much tougher stuff), throws her head back and crackles at Weavile from behind her enormous garnet, as if their attempts to bury her were an utter joke to them! Darling darling, if that's the best you got, then I feel for you very very sorry. Unless you're playing for fun, in which case well done! We he he he!

Contrarily, though, her often erstwhile partner was taking the frigid feline free and lightly as an obese Aggron. That is to say, not one iota of a percent. If that cool kitty cat was capable of clawing its way thorough Diam's near impenetrable Mega Defenses like it did, then he couldn't afford to take any risk against it.

With that in mind, the midget miner recalled Diam to her Pokeball, saying right before he did so: "Diam, you did good, but its time for ya to duck out for a bit."

He then sends out Puck in their place, who initially breathed a *Sigh* of relief when he saw that the Xerneas awful Hail had finally abated.....until he caught a glimpse of the Pokemon he was fighting now. Then he was all smiles as he eyed Weavile with a faint sense of bemused superiority casually readied themselves. Oh my, this is not going to end well for you, my friendly friend.

Regarding Candice's inquiry to his wicked fiend's unique grasp over Flash Cannon, Ran paused mid-planning to mull over exactly how to answer her, and settled with a carefully worded response.

"Bryon helped me teach her it, after I asked him if it was possible. She already knew Metal Burst, so I figured there were good odds she could pick it up a Move so similar to it. Wouldn't be the hardest or nastiest trick she's mastered, as ya can tell by now."

He then smoothly transition to relying his commands to his metallic pixie without missing a beat.

"Puck, hunker down, then duck out. I want to make this Weavile's life hard as possible, and you're just the man to do it."

Order: Puck will use Iron Defense, and then a Conditional Will Point Boosted Baton Pass to Diam, in order to give her + 2 MORE Defense and make her virtually unbreakable. If he's Frozen, then switch out BP with Power-Up Punch. Like I said, I'm stamping down hard on what it can do, and this maneuver will certainly help that.

"Whoa!" Karen exclaims as she just barely catches her balance, "A Swinub? Here? I know they appear near Blackthorn, never thought I'd get to see one." She approaches the little(?) guy(?) to get a better look.

Randolph vs Candice Round 7

Puck's Initiative doesn't matter in this case.  Intimidate does, though!

Weavile keeps on attackin'!  Even the threat of a Power Up Punch isn't deterring her!

Brick Break 1
(3)(1)(1)(1)(2)(4)(3)(4)
3* + 3 - 4 = 2
(1)(1) Candice is having a REALLY hard time against these Steel types today, isn't she?

Iron Defense 1
9 - 2 - 1 = 6
(2)(3)(6)(1)(6)(3)
+2 Defense for Puck! (For anyone wondering, BP will work more like it does in the games, rather than the Pokerole interpretation, which is why this worked at all)

Ice Punch 2
(2)(2)(2)(4)(2)(4)
3* + 3 + STAB - 6* - NVE = 1 D6 - 1
(-)
(4) Still no luck for Candice

Baton Pass 2
7 - 4 - 1
(1)(2) +1 from Conditional Will.
Spend that Will Point!
Puck passes the baton to Diam!

Candice nods approvingly at Randolph's choice of actions.
"Exactly the kind of strategies I want to see.  If you find a weakness in your opponent's tactics, exploit it!  That's how the Ice type rolls.  Ice has a lot of weaknesses in exchange for how easily it can exploit others', though, so I try to mitigate them as much as possible."

Round 8 Initiatives
Weavile: Still 13
Diam: (4) + 6 = 10

Maybe this is less surprising in hindsight given that Karen saw Candice use a Piloswine.

Regardless, yes, Swinub is a rather small pokemon.  Though given that Karen probably hasn't really seen a Swinub before, whether it's size is abnormal is hard for her to tell.

It's also difficult to determine its gender, as it's completely coated in mud from how much it's rolling around in its Mud Sport.

What is easy to tell is that Swinub isn't bothered by the cold at all.  Though given it's an Ice type, that might not mean much either...

As far as Karen can tell right now, it looks like a normal, slightly lazy Swinub who's perfectly at home in its mud puddle.

"Hey there little guy, enjoying yourself?" she addresses the Swinub in singsong-y voice. "Shellos wanna join in on the fun?" She sends out Shellos who begins to spatter mud as well! (Mud Sport learned for 2xp)

Insight + Contest + Empathy: (1)(5)(3)(4)(3)(5)(5)(2)(5)(3)(3)(5)(2) 6 successes!

Swinub is a little nervous about a Water type joining in on the fun at first, but that all changes as soon as Shellos starts using Mud Sport as well.

Swinub is SUPER happy to have more mud to roll around in, and immediately starts rolling around in the extra large mud puddle.

Karen's clothing is also now absolutely and completely coated in mud, by the way.

"Blech." she wipes some of the mud off of her clothing then gets an idea, "Hey little guy, I'll let ya play with Shellos anytime if ya come with me, what d'ya say?"

Mechanics: Karen tries to convince the Swinub to join her party

Randolph nods back in appreciation to the gelid gal, though his expression remained unchanged.

"Wasn't my intent for my strategy to catch ya eye Candice, but I got no complaints if it did. Anybody worth their weight in salt knows how to properly read a situation, and come up with at least an idea of what to do, and I'm worth a premium. *Shakes head* So many of the young hooligans I've fought don't know Scheisse how to cobble together a half decent plan o' assault, or don't have a lick of appreciation for what good planning can do and end up doing arsebackwards things in a fight. Can't tell ya how glad I am that you're nothing like them brats, even if you're giving me a good rubbing 'cause of that! If nothing else, the battle of ours is giving my old grey matter a work out, so I'm going to get something out of this, no matter what!"

The very next thing he says are his orders for Diam, whose's just plain eager to keep annoying the hecky out of that Weavile! Their reactions were so cute, so let her continue to be so rude, we he he!

"Diam, get yourself patched up, then bedazzle them with that light of yours, but be ready to block any Ice Punch from them!"

Orders: The gemlin will use Conditional Will Point Recover, followed by Metal Burst and then Flash Cannon. If Weavile attempts Ice Punch at any time during that que, however, replace the appropriate action with Detect to blank it (If it does no Damage Dice, no Chance Effect!), then attempt to continue the que using the Move it replaced as the next possible Action. If Weavile's last Action is Avalanche (It always goes last) and Diam's last Action is Metal Burst (And it hadn't taken any damage prior to using it), replace it with Flash Cannon. Let's continue with forcing the black cat out of its comfort zone, shall we?

"I can definitely agree with that.  You wouldn't believe how many opponents Weavile has floored because they tried to out blitz her."

Randolph vs Candice Round 8

Weavile keeps up the Pressure, literally and figuratively!  Diam effectively only has 3 Will right now!  This is gonna be close...

Night Slash 1
(6)(1)(1)(2)(6)(1)(2)(3) No crit!
(6) Diam takes 1 damage. 3/8 HP -2 Pain

Recover 1
(5)(6)(5)
(6)(2)(5)(6) Diam recovers 3 HP! 6/8 HP -1 Pain
Spend a Will Point!  Diam effectively only has 2 Will right now (actually has 6 atm, though)

Detect 2
(6)(6)(3)(3)

Ice Punch 2
(2)(2)(1)(6)(4)(1)
4 + 3 + STAB - 7* - 3 Detect = 0 Even with a crit, Diam wouldn't have taken any damage from this attack! (as it makes sense that Protect and similar would be the last damage calculation applied)
Diam protected herself!

Avalanche 3
(5)(6)(1)(2)
(1) No damage.  Diam is doing what she does best!

Flash Cannon 3
2 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Channel - 1 Pain - 6 Act = 0 D6
Diam doesn't have enough dice to use this as her third action because she's pained, however! (if you want me to roll a Luck Die instead since this is at the end of the Round, let me know) Weavile smirks, satisfied that she was at least able to Pressure this wall enough to prevent it from doing any more damage to her.

The Round went well for Diam overall regardless, but she has to do some damage at some point if she's going to beat this kitty cat.
