[Game Thread] Pokerole: Mount Coronet Mystery

The midget miner agrees with that sentiment, though he doesn't get worked up over it, returning Stymph to her Ball and saying to it. "Ya did good, girl. Rest easy."

He then focuses on Candice, giving her a crooked smile as he fingered his next chosen Pokeball.

"Bit of a cheap shot with that Flinch, but all's fair in love and war, right? Welp, guess its time for be to break out the big guns. Come on out, Zorn"

And with that ominously spoken, he throws out his next choice of combatant, and out comes a mean and ANGRY looking Druddigon! (I'll leave his reactions to you, mate)

"Zorn, show Candice you're afraid of no Ice types, even a big brute like a Mamoswine!"

"Ice types are all about exploiting weaknesses and ending battles quickly, after all!  Well, most of the time, anyways."

Zorn the Druddigon takes one look at that Mamoswine...

...looks back at Randolph...

...then Zorn sighs.

Alright, fine.  FINE.  He'll do it!

...stupid Fairy...

He grits his teeth and snarls at the mammoth pokemon.

Alright, time to do what he does best.

Round 11 Initiatives
Zorn: (6) + 9 = 15!
Mamoswine: 14

"*Nods* Fair enough, lass."

(...)

"*Sighs*.....Thank ya for cooperating, Zorn. Now, give that Mamoswine a nice Glare to keep him from hitting ya too much, then hit them hard with a Iron Head, Crunch, and Bulldoze. They're a Ice/Ground type, so Thunder Punch won't work on them at all, so keep that in mind. If you have a better idea of what to do, though.....then go ahead and do it, so long as you give it your all. I ain't going to be forcing ya to Fight how I like ya if you don't want to, but it'll up to you to swim instead of sinking."

Yeah......Randolph is not feeling very positive about this battle either, but for different reasons that his brutish drake. Hopefully they'll listen and at least Paralyze them before doing his own thing, but he was not really counting on it. This was going to be a battle on two fronts for him: one against Candice, and the other against his own Pokemon's stubbornness and savagery.

It was going to be bloody hell.

Orders: Request that Zorn use a Conditional Will Point Glare in order to get a bigger DEX advantage and stigmy them from attacking TOO much, then launch off with Sheer Force, Life Orb Boosted Iron Head, Crunch, and Bulldoze. If they shan't obey, then he'll be fine what WHATEVER they end up doing, so long as its actually productive. I'm not feeling too confidant anymore about my chances against Candice here and in general, but I'll see this battle through to the end.

Randolph vs Candice Round 11

L: (2)(3)
D: (4)(2)(4)(3)  Hmmm...

...actually, yeah, Zorn thinks Glare is a pretty good idea.  He doesn't like the look of this Ice type.  And the less damage he takes, the better in his opinion!

He's not spending a Will Point on it, though. He's pretty confident that he doesn't need to.

Glare 1
6 Tough + 1 Contest + 0 Intimidate - 1 - 2 Act = 4 D6
(5)(3)(5)(3) Mamoswine became Paralyzed! -2 Dex

Mamoswine tries to roar again to bring down more ice on her opponent!

Icicle Crash 1
1* + 4 + 3 - 2 - 1 = 5 D6
(1)(4)(1)(2)(3) Miraculously, the attack misses Zorn entirely!

Zorn has no issues with using Iron Head against an Ice type!

Iron Head 2
(6)(5)(6)(2)(1)(3)(3)
Mamoswine has 4 Defense
3 + 5 + 2 SF + 2 LO - 4 + SE = 8 D6 + 1 damage
(5)(3)(3)(2)(5)(4)(1)(6) Mamoswine takes 5 damage! 7/12 HP -1 Pain!

Mamoswine tries to retaliate with another roar, though this one shakes loose snow in the ceiling instead!

Avalanche 2
8* - 4 - 1 = 3 D6
(2)(1)(1) Another miss!  Candice is looking a little worried now!

Feeling a little more confident in Randolph's orders now, Zorn continues pressing the assault with Crunch!

L: (5)(1)
D: (6)(3)(4)(2)

However, it's a Lethal one.

Crunch 3
(6)(1)(4)(6)(3)
(6)(4)(6)(5)(1)(6)(1)(1) Mamoswine takes 4 Lethal damage! 3/8 (4 Lethal) HP -2 Pain

Mamoswine tries to stomp on the ground and cause another tremor...

Earthquake 3
8* - 6 - 2 = 0 D6
Mamoswine was fully Paralyzed!

Zorn moves in for the finishing blow!

L: (2)(3)
D: (2)(3)(3)(1)

...with Bulldoze, as Randolph asked!  He kinda wanted to use his most powerful attack for good measure, but given how well everything's gone so far, he supposes he can use a weaker one...

Bulldoze 4
(6)(5)(2)
(6)(6)(5)(2)(1)(6)(2)  Mamoswine takes 4 damage and faints!

Alright, Zorn guesses he can admit that Randolph's plans are at least decently well thought out...

Zorn gains 1 Loyalty.

Candice whistles.  "...that is one MEAN Dragon.  Guess it's time for me to bring out one of my strongest pokemon in response!  Hope you're ready, Randolph!~"

Well, that went better than expected! Smile

(.....I am pleasantly surprised by this turn of events. Even if I lose against her ace, THIS and Diam's Last Round will more than make up for that.)

The moment his cave terror went LETHAL on Candice's 'little' piggie, Randolph damn near blew a gasket, a vein throbbing angrily at the top of his forehead as he geared himself to remind them of the consequences of doing such a thing.....!

....Until he closed his eyes, pinched the bridge of his nose, took a deep breath, and heaved it out, doing his best to Will away his temper.

".....Excellent job, Zorn. Keep doing work like that, and you'll get more than your fair share in the end. Just.....don't go overboard."

It took a lot from him to not blow up on them, but....it just was not the right thing to do. The Meanest Dragon had followed their orders to the letter for the most part, and brought Mamoswine down FLAWLESSLY. Even if they got unjustifiably Lethal, he couldn't deny that Zorn did very well in spite of that, his usual attitude, and his actually justified reluctance to face strong Ice types. That, and they were following The Deal he made with them so far, so going back on it now, after their outstanding victory and relative Obedience, over his......personal feelings......now that would be plain dishonorable and stupid.

He'll have words with them about their Lethal behavior later. For now.....he'll let it go, so long as it doesn't cause permanent solutions to temporary problems.

By his forge, it rackles him to do that.....but he must.

A moment passes as the dwarven craftsman works to regain his calm, after which he looks back to the frosty lass and nodded.

"That he is, Candice. That he is. If ya give him even half an inch, he'll take all you got. Ready to see what ace you got up your sleeve, or wherever you keeping them. Zorn's staying out, 'cause I suspect your last Pokemon is going to be a real eiskalter teufel, so I'll need his muscle to help deal with them."

Ready for the Candice's Last Stand!

"Alrighty then!~  Heeeere we go!"

Candice raises an arm and holds it straight out in front of her.

Then she drops it, and raises it sloooooowwwwwllly...

Music: Gym Leader's Last Pokemon - Pokemon B/W/B2/W2

...and as she does so, a pokemon rises from the ground in front of her.

"Froslass, my adorable Ice Queen, you're up!  Time to clean house and Freeze them to the bone!"

Candice's Froslass affixes her opponent with a calm yet incredibly icy gaze. All who gaze upon her know that she is the embodiment of the cold in this place. It is without question.

This is her domain.

Round 12 Initiatives
Froslass: (6) + 13 = 19
Zorn: 15

There is NO outspeeding this frigid specter with a roll like that.

Candice fixes Zorn with an absolutely FRIGID Glare of her own.  "ONE condition for your Dragon before we begin, though, I'm afraid.  No Lethal Crunches this time 'round.  One of those could potentially outright kill my pokemon in one blow, and you don't want to know what the consequences for that would be."

Zorn's downright terrified of that glare.  Even more so than he is of Puck.

Wow.

Yup, Candice sure can be frosty when she wants to be.  Randolph is 100% certain that Zorn won't be using any Lethal attacks this Round.

Randolph raises an eyebrow at the frosty lass' small display.....until her Frosslass rose up beside her, causing his eyes to widen to an almost comical degree.

"One of those yuki-onne is your ace?! Verdammt mein verdammtes Glück!"

Yeah, the midget man was quite familiar with this species from the reading he's done the most wicked and dangerous Pokemon to exist and from.....other sources, so he knew the rest of his Pokemon were DEFINITELY in for a bad time. Especially Beethoven, as they would hardly be able to do a damn thing to the bonnifide ice queen. Blast his rotten luck!

Candice's GRAVE warning towards Zorn snaps him out of his shock and cursing filled thoughts, causing him to shake his head and let out a heavy *Sigh*.

"Yeap, I was absolutely right. Hate that it only happens with my worst of fears, but what can ya do. *Sighs again, and nods* Well, nothing else to do, but brave your Frosslass' chill. Zorn, same routine on Frosslass you used on Mamoswine. If you have a better plan, then go for it. Put this gelid spirit to rest, or at least cripple it for the rest of the team to deal with much easier. Oh, and remember what we talked about League Battles. You've already used 4 Moves, so that's all you got to work with. Try anything else, and you and I will be declared the loser, which ain't what we want. Got it?"

It should be noted that Randolph is completely fine with the Gym Leader menacing Zorn. In fact, were he not in the middle of brainstorming ways to defeat her Ice Queen and cursing his luck at having to fight them, he'd probably be thankful and happy with her Grade A Intimidation. Maybe he'll ask he tips on how she managed to be so scary......but for now, he had a Gym Battle to try and win!

Orders: Repeat Zorn's line up of Actions last Round, while still giving him free reign to change up the plan on the fly (Sans Bulldoze, 'cause that won't work) . He's even encouraged to be creative, if he thinks of a way to Faint Frosslass quickly. I was afraid this would be Candice's last Pokemon, and combined with their Initiative I effectively have 1 less Pokemon to fight them with. Oh joy. Well......I'll cope with this development.....or not. We'll see soon enough.....

Randolph vs Candice Round 12

L: (3)(5)(3)
D: (6)(4)(6)(4)

...yeah, Zorn's going to come up with his own plan of attack for this one.  Zorn spends a Will Point to ignore Pain for the entire Round!

Or maybe survival is more accurate in this case.

"Let the cold winds howl, Froslass!"

Froslass crosses her arms in front of herself, then snaps them outwards in a T shape, summoning howling gales!

This is the ONLY Ice move that she needs most of the time, and her bread and butter attack.

Blizzard! 1
13 - 2 - 3 = 8 D6
(5)(4)(1)(2)(6)(4)(1)(2) 3 successes
Evade 1: 5 + 3 + 0 - 2 = 6 D6
(6)(1)(3)(6)(3)(5)
Zorn ducks and covers, holding a claw up and gritting his teeth as the gelid winds blow past his hiding spot behind one of the larger snowmen near the arena's edge.

Annoyed, Froslass raises a hand into the air, where shadows begin to gather.  Once enough of them are accumulated, she tosses a...

Shadow Ball 2
13 - 4 = 9
(5)(2)(5)(2)(2)(5)(3)(2)(4)
5 Spe + 3 Pow + STAB - 3 = 6 D6
(2)(3)(3)(3)(3)(5) Also miraculously, Zorn only takes 1 damage from the attack! 7/8 HP
(2)

His turn to retaliate as he bursts through the cover of his snowman, head lowered in ramming position!

Iron Head 2
(6)(6)(5)(1)(3)(2)(5)
Froslass has 5 Defense and Sp. Defense
(6)(5)(4)(6)(2)(1)(4) Froslass takes 6 damage and eats her Sitrus Berry! 6/9 HP -1 Pain

Froslass recoils from the Sheer Force of the blow she just took, an attack that's harmed her more than any other attack in literal years.

Well, if that's how the Dragon wants to play...

So be it.  She'll just have to hit back with another Super Effective attack of her own.

The next thing Zorn knows, Froslass is right next to him.

...and then she gives him a peck on the cheek.

Draining Kiss 3
11 - 6 - 1 = 4 D6
(5)(4)(3)(3)
5 + 2 - 3 + SE = 4 D6 + 1
(4)(2)(4)(4) Zorn takes 4 damage! 3/8 HP -2 Pain
Froslass recovers 2 HP! 8/9 HP

Zorn retaliates with his other Super Effective attack as soon as he recovers from the shock of Froslass's gentle yet incredibly cold tender mercies!

Crunch 3
(5)(3)(1)(3)(3)
(6)(6)(4)(1)(3)(1)(4) Froslass takes 4 damage 4/9 HP -2 Pain

Froslass backs up, then assaults Zorn's mind more directly this time!

Psychic 4
13 - 2 - 8 = 3
(3)(4)(1)
(6)(2)(2)(1)(4) Zorn takes 2 damage! 1/8 HP -3 Pain
(6) And to add insult to injury, Zorn's Special Defense is lowered by 1

Zorn slams a fist on the arena floor as he gets the most horrible headache, causing the whole battlefield to shake uncontrollably!

Bulldoze 4
(5)(1)(6)
(3)(4)(5)(3)(1)(2) Froslass takes 2 damage! 2/9 HP -2 Pain

Zorn looks back at Randolph pleadingly, breathing heavily after expending so much energy on powering through the Pain.  Can he stop fighting this Ice type now?

(....Zorn, buddy, you have the luck of the devil this match. You have my respect, mate.)

*Blink blink*

*Rubs eyes*

....Yeap, he's not seeing things.

Zorn, his big, brutish, and bad drake, had not only managed to dodge the yuki-onne's Blizzard, but managed to survive the rest of its cold, relentless assault, and dang near laid them to rest instead

And he was now begging for him to bail him out of this. Zorn. Begging. Him. For. Help.

".......Unglaublich. Das ... das ... unglaublich. Nur wie? "

Ran was......flabbergasted by this turn of events, to say the least.

It took more than a few seconds for bristly blacksmith to finally return to his senses, and when he did he stared Zorn straight into his eyes....and slowly nodded his head.

"That'll do, Zorn. That'll do. You've done more than far share of the heavy lifting. Time for ya to get some rest, partner. You certainly deserve a nice, long one."

He promptly recalls his scaled cave terror, and looked back to Candice with a serious and.....slightly proud expression?

"I'm forfeiting Zorn from our match, Candice. Between you and mean, I think he deserves the reprieve. You agree?"

While awaiting her response, he thinks over who will he be sending out next.....and has an idea. An utterly mad, but......one that could just do the trick.

Grimly setting his features, he says nothing as he plucks his next Pokeball from his belt and tosses it out, summoning......Beethoven the Chatot into the arena. Whose reaction upon being summoned to fight a Frosslass.....well, I'll leave that to you, Dragonstrike.

Miss Jackie Frost is probably giving him another weird look for his choice, too, no doubt.

It's all apart of the plan, though. All apart of the plan.....

(I think I know what you're going to do.  And if I'm right, I had the same idea ;P )

Candice chuckles.  "Daaaawww, has the big bad Dragon had enough of playing with my cutesy friend? Tee hee."

Once she gets that out of her system, though, she coughs.

"...*ahem*...excuse me, that wasn't very respectful.  Yes, it's more than fine if he wants to forfeit.  It's been quite awhile since anyone gave Froslass such a good runaround, after all!  Hard work, that.  Honestly, it's quite refreshing to be not holding back.  Much.  I still have a few tricks I reserve for only the toughest of the tough, after all."

Candice winks.

When Randolph sends out Beethoven, the birdy tilts his head and eyes his opponent carefully...

"Warum muss es zu kalt sein, um hier irgendetwas zu erledigen?"

That phrase he's speaking in German is his primary reaction as he looks back and forth between Randolph and Candice's Froslass in confusion.

And yeah, Candice is giving Randolph a weird look too.

"...a Chatot?  Well, if that isn't the strangest thing I've seen all day in my gym..."

Round 13 Initiatives
Froslass: 19
Beethoven: (5) + 11 = 16
