While I get his point of view, I do think some changes should be applied to some certain extend, like in the LG/FR version, I remember there being a Karate dude who teaches punches, another teaches kicks, and so on and so forth...

The main difference with the gen 3 tutors is that they could only teach their respective moves once each per save file, even though they did so for free.
It was the only way to get Seismic Toss Chansey. And it was hard to do so because back then, it was hard to RNG abuse for a 6IV Chansey in the 3rd gen.

I'd be glad unlimited move tutors were added in the game, once only move tutors wasn't ok.
Not saying they weren't a pain, since making competitive mons using those gen 3 only tutor moves mas a massive pain the rear end simply by itself due to the bad breeding mechanics.  I'm actually glad multiple use tutors were introduced (way back in Crystal if you can believe that.  Next occurrence wasn't until Emerald.)  Most multiple use tutors do usually have some kind of restrction on them though, be it a cost or only being able to teach the move to a very small group of pokemon (like Draco Meteor).

I do also agree that the shard costs for the Ultimate Tutor seem a bit steep atm.  I don't want to have to spam dive 10+ times every time I want to teach one move to a pokemon.  Sinnoh only got away with the sparsity of the shards because:
1. the Underground was a fairly fun minigame
2. Shards weren't all that rare, just sort of uncommon, and the rare Star Pieces could be traded in for one of each in Platinum.

B2/W2 instead went with the more monotonous route: gathering them from dust clouds.  Ick, that's even worse than breaking coral...
You know. I want shard collecting to be very easy like Heart Scale Luvdisc hunting. (Except in this game, Selkid is the Luvdisc. And you don't even need to collect heart scales off of her because reteaching moves is free....) I would like it for the Move Tutor guy to make you access the tutor moves when you get 1 shard of each. Can't you believe how long getting red shards were?
I can believe gathering red shards takes awhile.  I've seen some other complaints about that on the subreddit, actually.  As for Heart Scales...no, they're not really an issue.  Selkid have them 100% of the time, and you can even get them from breaking coral.  Why even have them in the first place if they aren't getting used though?  Well, the move relearner still requires them, actually...but only on Nuzlocke mode atm iirc, which is definitely not designed for competitive play.

Anyways...bringing the shard costs down, increasing the rates for the shards, and adding alternative ways to collect them are all potential things that could be done to alleviate some of the unbalance here.  Bringing down the costs would probably be the easiest way, tbh...

I was only mentioning the heart scales... If there are going to be no changes to finding shards a lot easier, then reducing the cost would have to do.

They took away the dentist and old man, and now are not going to implement the other Tutors? I'm all for conveyance and instilling value in choices, but I feel that they maybe took it a bit too far this time. The Dentist charged 5000 poke per move learned, so I say that was fairly balanced, if you need a more onto a pokemon pronto. If he really is not going to become a tutor again, he should at least offer to do something else, like increasing friendship of a pokemon once a day (5000 dollars, cleaning their teeth, natch), or give some item that relates to his profession.

As for the old man, having one early game tutor that does not cost anything (or much), that has move that can benefit the start of a playthrough, seems like a sound idea. As for the other tutors, I feel that having their moves pooled together in a one (or 4) tutors around mid-to-late game seems to be a swell idea.... if they didn't ask for something so bloody tedious to get. I would not mind if they resorted to charging berries or Poke for learning moves, as the latter give people more of an incentive to grow berries (something I almost never did in my first run), and the former is much easier to get by rechallenging trainer. Both methods cost something (time and money, mostly), so I think it emphasizes the inherent value of tutors

Oh, and while I would miss free relearning, making the Move Relearner ask for Heart Scales for both styles of playthroughs would give those scale move value. If I heard correctly, they are relatively easy to get too, so I would not be too frustrating to farm them.

If they insist on using shards as payment for moves, have some NPC located somewhere in the world (The rock gym town seems like a good idea) that will exchange money or shards is essential, even if they lower the cost of tutoring. Their has to be an alternative, after all, if one does not want to go farming for them. If they have the money, why not let them cut the middle man out of the proceedings, so to speak?

All sound points.  In fact, there were tutors in Amatree that required the Baykal berries for the moves they taught in the beta, so JV and Twitch might have been thinking along the same lines in that area.

Concerning the Nowtoch Tutor, most of the moves he taught were very, very niche status moves of some kind.  Having them taught for free only after getting 4 badges was fitting I think.  Nobody would seriously consider teaching them otherwise, particularly since Nowtoch is very easily accessible right after the 4th gym thanks to the Tandor Underground.

And as for the dentist, putting him back in but making him a friendship raiser or similar sounds like a decent idea.  It'd provide a nice alternative NPC to the Beachside Hotel's groomer if you want to use his services on something besides friendship for whatever reason.
