[Game Thread] Pokerole: Mount Coronet Mystery

"Nurse Joy will probably know more about that than I do.  I try to avoid ending up in the hospitals."

"You'd be surprised how many people go to visit Bebe in Hearthome City.  She's quite friendly and loves to meet people who use the PC system from what I hear.  Regardless of why you visit, I'd recommend trying to find some time to do so if you're ever in the Hearthome area."

"Hmm.....alright. I'll chat up the Nurse later about that. She helped determined that Kogeki's nerves in his stump still are working, so maybe she can point me towards somewhere that'll allow me and them to put them back to use."

"*Eyebrow Raises* .....Huh. *Shrugs* If you say so, Professor. Perhaps I'll pay her a visit the next time I have work in Hearthome, perhaps not. Depends on how busy, or if nothing else comes along to distract me when I need it least."

Ran grumbles as he says that last part, but he soon falls silent there after. As for Kee's response, he just ends up grunting affirmatively to them twice, and leaves the matter at that. If they can help him with the arm (and he can get the parts for it + build it too soon), he'll let them take a crack at it.

With that, Ran's pretty much all talked out for the night, and ready to conk out until the next day. He still has questions he wishes to share in private with Rowan, but not for tonight. Today's worn him out between the blistering cold and intensely hot battles he's taken part in, and he doesn't want to irritate the old scholarly gentlemen thrice in a row tonight, so he'll table his questions for now. That's all for now!

Sure thing!  Let's rooooooollllll some dice!  As these are all pokemon that Professor Rowan has been raising, at the very minimum, they'll have at least one ? move as well, regardless of whether they have any other surprises.

- I'll make it 50-50 on whether Ralts will get a Surprise since Snover is an Uncommon pokemon
- Sneasel is an Uncommon pokemon with a Surprise (making him rare), so it'll be 50-50 on whether Cleffa gets a Surprise as well
- A-Geodude has two surprises (Shiny and Hidden Ability) and is an international pokemon (making him extra rare), so Heracross will get 1 Surprise guaranteed and have a 50-50 chance of having a second surprise

Ralts: (1) No surprise

"This Ralts is a pokemon I had bred to study why Gardevoir often pass down Misty Terrain to their offspring.  The ability for Ralts to protect itself from harmful status ailments is apparently quite valuable when it has to face enemy Poison types, which is why the species developed that particular trait.  Ralts tend to evolve quickly after powerful, very happy moments with their trainers, but simply raising them as normal may also trigger the desired effect, though it tends to take a lot longer to do so.  This one might be close to evolving, though it can be hard to tell sometimes where Ralts are concerned."

Bye bye, Snover!  Take good care of Ralts!

Cleffa: (6) Surprise!
*rolls* Attribute/Skill bonus!

"Cleffa here happens to be the offspring of Dawn's Clefable, and she gave the egg to me because I wanted to study the evolution line more closely outside of its natural habitat.  Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to get around to evolving them, but I'm sure they'll find a good home with you.  They certainly have the makings of a good cleric and support pokemon, given their lineage.  And they might also have a lot of potential in Contests as well.  It's amazing what the bonds between Trainers and Pokemon can create sometimes."

Bye bye, Sneasel!  Take good care of Cleffa!

Heracross: (6) Surprise!
*rolls* Shiny!
*rolls* Attribute/Skill bonus!

"This particular Heracross has been undergoing rigorous Strength training.  I've been studying the effects it might have on a pokemon's ability to defend itself, and comparing it to how pokemon that don't have raw Strength choose to survive.  Interestingly, this Heracross has a tendency to avoid fights by simply scaring off its opposition, as few pokemon want to attempt to fight such a Tough looking opponent."

Bye bye, Alolan Geodude!  Take good care of Heracross!

Does Karen (@Mikaruge108) want to do any trades with Professor Rowan?

"I'd be willing to trade the Snover for one of these Pokemon."

"Also, I found a shiny Unown in Solaceon, would that be a sufficient trade for one of those experimental starters?"
Karen then thinks for a moment; "Uhm, I don't want to trade him, but could you take a look at my Gastrodon, for some odd reason, he gained a third type, Poison, when he evolved."

Yeah, Feebas is rare, as are Skorupi and Gible.  Snover isn't valuable enough on its own to be traded for a rare pokemon.

Wurmple and Remoraid are common because they can be found all over the region.

Wooper is uncommon due to only being commonly found in and around Pastoria Great Marsh.

Feel free to trade Snover for any Uncommon or Common pokemon if you are trading them by themsrlves.

"A Shiny Unown (which is rare) isn't valuable enough for one of these experimental starter pokemon (which are extra rare), unfortunately.  Not on its own, anyways.  If you were to get a second rare or special pokemon to trade with them, I could definitely consider that exchange."

Rowan raises an eyebrow curiously when Karen mentions her Gastrodon has a third type.  "I'd be more than happy to take a quick look at them.  Studying Pokemon Evolution is what I do, after all.  If I may ask, what seemed to trigger the evolution?"

In that case, Snover is traded for... Wooper!
and Unown is traded for one of the rares on that list... Skorupi!
"He evolved during a battle when I had him use Ancient Power, and for a brief moment there was a subtle black light as well during the evolution, that seems to have been triggered by the Ancient Power."

1/6 chance for both trades to be special since they are of equivalent rarities.  They'll have at least 1 ? move at minimum regardless, though.

Wooper: (2) No surprise

"Have you ever wondered how a Wooper is able to use Ice Punch?  I had this Wooper taught the move specifically to find out.  The species is apparently able to use their tail to simulate the force of a punch.  A curious adaptation for sure.  I'm still researching how they evolved that way."

Bye bye, Snover!  Take good care of Wooper!

Skorupi: (1) No surprise

"In a similar manner to Gardevoir passing down Misty Terrain to their Ralts offspring, Drapion have a tendency to pass down Night Slash to their Skorupi offspring.  I'm not sure whether this is because it helps them defend themselves against Psychic types while they're young, goes well with their Sniper ability, is because they just have an easy time learning the move due to it being one they can learn naturally before evolving, or some combination of those and other factors.  My research has indicated that Drapion weren't always part Dark type, though, which is some food for thought.  This particular Skorupi, however, is part of an experiment I did to see if the parents having moves more likely to land Critical blows were the main factor in which Ability the offspring hatched with."

Bye bye, Unown R!  Take good care of Skorupi!

With regards to Gastrodon: "...curious.  That sounds similar to how a Yanma or Piloswine might evolve into Yanmega and Mamoswine.  A dark light, however...I've never heard of or seen such an occurence before.  Could I possibly ask you to demonstrate what your Gastrodon is capable of for me some time tomorrow?  I'll need more than a moment and a fleeting description to solve this mystery."

Cleffa and Ralts yawn, looking rather tired, and don't really respond in any other ways right now.  Seems like they were sleeping.

Heracross, though, stares Kogeki down!

Intimidate: (4)(5)(2)(6)(2)(1)(1)(5)(3)(3)(4) 4 successes
Kogeki's Will: (6)(1)(2)(2)(5)(3)(4) 3 successes

Kogeki looks away first, unable to hold the stare with such a naturally Intimidating pokemon.  Heracross crosses its arms and huffs.

Rowan chuckles in amusement.  "I see Heracross is giving you the same greeting they give everyone.  I'm sure they'll be more friendly if given enough time, though.  Oh, and keep in mind that Ralts and Cleffa are still rather young despite their Levels.  They'll need a decent amount of attention until they evolve and mature a little bit."
