I don't think Diam currently knows what Karen's greatest fear is, but I'll roll to see if she picked up any context clues.
Empathy: (5)(5)(2)(4)(4) -1 for not being present when Karen used her Mightyena in battle
3 successes. Diam somehow did! Unbeknownst to Randolph, she's been carefully watching everyone in the party...
Which means when she does this:
Night Shade
(6)(3)(6)(5)(1)(6)(1)(1)(1) +1 Will = 3 successes (spend that Will point!)
...everyone sees the image of a Houndoom suddenly appear in the room, a pokemon that Diam had seen accompanying a random trainer in the Pokemon Center, and a pokemon that Karen was trying her best to subtly avoid.
Fortunately, it's easy to tell it isn't an actual Houndoom, as the image is transparent. But in the heat of the moment, that might not be very obvious at all when Karen turns around and sees it...
(Alright, let me deal with this scene first, before I get to the other ones)
Yes, yes, indeed. Diam is
always watching, always
observing everyONE and everyTHING, taking note of EVERY details big or small about them, so that one day, when the time was
ripe or the occasion DEMANDED it (Or a fey whimsy took her, as often was the case) she would spring upon them the most
auspicious of fright and trickery that would
shake them to their very souls.
Most regrettably for them, but oh so
delightfully for her, it was Karen’s time to learn that, and
this:
never taunt, tease, or torment Ghosts, spirits, or the dead, unless you’re prepared to
reap the fruits of your labor.
(Quote PhantomUnderYourDesk Eeeehhh! Octavia's still enjoying Karen's company, and in the heat of the moment her desire to protect the young lady is stronger than her wariness and skepsis of Fire Types: She takes a defending stance in front of her and sharply hisses at that make-believe-doomdog, but her ears are lowered as a sign of subtle fear. Probably won't make a move herself unless that 'dog' comes too close. Or until Karen herself asks her to deal with it.)
(Quote Mikaruge108: Insight(3)+Survival(2)+Alert(2)-completely off guard(3)= 4D6; OOC note, she'll have to either tie (3 successes) or ace her roll to notice that its an illusion
(5)(1)(1)(1)= 0 successes oof...
When Karen turns around, she comes face to face with a snarling Houndoom! Her eyes go wide as saucers, and screams bloody murder at the shock! She crouches on the floor, muttering incoherently; the only thing that can be made out is "Please make it stop!" and is bawling her eyes out.)
*Whe he he he he he he he, he he he HE, he he he HE!*
And
oh boy boy boy, did they reap and
weap such a bountiful harvest indeed! The devious imp was cackling gleefully at the terrified tumble they took because of the Night Shade she conjured, making zero attempt to disguise her fiendish merriment of or responsibility for it all!
Now this, THIS was what she wanted to see, to
happen: the summoning of the scared little girl that Karen had tried so
so hard to bury and hide away! But you can’t keep
anything like that secret from her. Oh no no no
no.
She suddenly ceases her fell laughter to snap her bejeweled vision towards the cowering lass, locking gazes with them with an utterly
blank expression, until it slowly twisted into a sardonic,
toothy GRIN, and patiently tilted her head at them. Almost as if she was asking a
haughtingly familiar question: are they going to be
serious or flippant with her
now? If its
still the later…..well, she
still has quite the
variety of
demonstrations she could preform, gesturing meaningful with a slight flourish of a sharp,
sharp claw of hers.
(Quote PhantomUnderYourDesk: Only when that canine is successfully dealt with = dismantled, Octavia will 1. give Diam a disgruntled hiss of 'What were you thinking to scare her LIKE THAT?! You just don't exploit people's fears in such a way, hmmmpppffff!!!' and 2. whine a little over Karen being a heap of misery and gently tap her with her paw.
That's the moment Kee arrives at the scene, didn't make it in time due to being concentrated in business with Ran. Octavia greets him with a chirp. He looks hasted and eager to do something, and he also offers a hand to help her up. "Alright....", he starts, "You usually give yourself so bold, what has messed with you SO much? ....Was that Houndoom that scary? It was just an illusion.")
She was quite disappointed and a bit surprised to see the fae fox dispel her Night Shade, though, as she paid them little to no mind in favor of Laser Focusing on her
target of mischief. The gemlin slumped a bit and turned to give Octavia a questioning frown, as if to say ‘What was that for?’ before she was taken about by their nearly vengeful and protective baying, looking more visibly surprised now in addition to confused and annoyed.
Now, what was
that for, what kind of question is
that? She was just getting her
rightful revenge for the
indignity and condensesion they gave, with a trick and a scare! Surely a fellow Fae and a Fairy creature such as you could understand what she did,
why she did? A price must be paid, if you deal with dead or fey, and dear Karen got what she
made.
Besides, beyond, what she did was just a harmless scare. A mean scare, but a harmless one still! If she wished for worse,
wanted worse, she
could have down
worse, but she didn’t didn’t and didn’t. Can’t you understand that, this, and all of it??
This ‘conversation’ came to an abrupt end when not only Kee but
Ran too came and joined the wee anklebitter’s ‘fun’ , the later of which jumped out of his to rush over ASAP after hearing Karen scream bloody murder (Which I’ll say
after he finished talking to Kee, if anyone else doesn’t mind). He only had to take one good look at the scene to figure out what happen, and he reeled on Diam with a such a
Dark and
Thunderous that it filled her with both pride and fright.
“You little,
fucking, disgraceful
devil. You….you…..I’ll get to
you later. Until then,
it’s the PC for you, an NO diamonds or Gems for yonks. Got it?”
The irate dwarf doesn’t wait for her response before he promptly returns her, and switch out of his party for Zorn. He shan’t be dealing with her anytime soon or today, until he’s good and ready to
lay into her for
that. He knew that she was a impish trickster and scare maker by nature, but he taught and expect her to act better than she did.
Once that was done, he turned his attention back to Karen, going over to her and offering a hand to help her up and off the floor with a solemn, apologetic, and concern expression.
“Karen, lass? You okay? I apologize from the bottom of my blackened heart for what Diam did. She enjoys playing tricks on others or riling people up, but she
doesn’t usually go
that bloody far with them. Forgive me if this sounds rude, but what did ya
do to get her to indulge in Darker whimsy? Need to know, so I can reem that
stupid imp for it and decide how much
more of a punishment she’ll be getting later.”
(Quote Mikaruge108: Karen looks up, her eyes still watery, and rubs them, when she notices the illusion is gone, she stands back up; "...dogs...", she mutters, "I... *sniff*... am scared of dogs..." She says this part more clearly. )
I’ll presume that the conversation between Kee and Karen still goes on around his own with her, which causes the midget man’s eyes go wide, both in realization and…discomfort?
“Oh. So
that’s why you had such a bad time with Diam’s Night Shade. *Rubs back of head awkwardly* Err…well, I hate to compound your woes right now lass, but I got some news to share with ya that would just be worse for you if heard or found it out later.
I got me an Absol from Rowan, a type of canine – wolf Pokemon, for our job, for extra security. If ya want, I’ll tell them later to avoid getting too close for comfort to you when I introduce myself to them. That sound alright, lass?”
