[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
Initiative orders stay constant. Do you want to have Growlithe delay and see what move Paras is using? You can't Evade once your original order resolves, so I think that's the only way for you to ever evade Paras without using two moves.

I was working under the assumption that that was tied to the hold action. I'll consider in the future.

I've already locked in orders (even if to my detriment). Let's play them out.

Ok, I think as long as you have a precedent that "evade if" means "hold action", we're fine. But I will take you at your word for the nonce (it's just a Paras.)

Paras Round 2

Growlithe's Bite
(6)(4)(6)(2)(4)(6) - fight skill OP, it's a crit
Damage 4-2def+2 crit
(6)(3)(4)(1) - 2 success. Paras takes 2 damage and now has 3 HP remaining.

Paras' Poisonpowder
1dex -3 acc +2 fight + 2 canalize = 2 dice
(3)(2) Miss.

Growlithe gives Paras a gentle nip to weaken it, then nimbly evades the cloud of spores coming from the nipped mushroom.

Mechanics:

Assume Flinch didn't proc for the previous round. Also. Yikes. Poisonpowder. Big Bug.

Combat Move:
Winston: Bite
Trainer: Conditional Move: If Bite Connects and Paras drops to half or less health, Pokeball.

Initiative: D6+3
Dice + 3 Dex + 0 Survival
Order: Bite
Accuracy: Pool 6
3 Dex + 3 Fight + 0 Brawl
Damage: Pool 4 - Def, Flinch *3*
2 Str + 2
Flinch *3*

"Very nice." He calls appreciatively.

Doesn't hurt to have your head screwed back on, sometimes.

"Lets finish this. BITE!"

He hefts the ball in his free hand and prepares for the wind-up and throw.

Paras Round 3

I rolled for the flinch chance but forgot to write it down.

(5)(4)(4)(6)(3)

(4)(1)(2)(3) - 1 damage, but it's enough to try a Pokeball. Paras has 2hp remaining.

Growlithe darts back in, encouraged by the words of his master.

(3)(1)(2) flinch fails.

Paras' Will: 3, pain -2 = 1 dice
(4) - 1 success for Paras.
Pokeball seal = 2 dice
(3)(1) = 0 success.

Paras breaks free of the ball, which is shattered. It looks curiously at the shiny material inside the ball.

Paras' Scratch
(5) - hit
(5)(6) - 2 successes, 2 damage to Winston.

Wow. Those dice. They do NOT like me.
Since running isn't a sure thing, this is now a game of rocket tag. If either shot connects solidly, fight ends. Lets spend that will point and play the odds.

Combat Move: Ignoring Pain Penalization Via Will Point
Winston: Bite with Will Point. Let's make this one stick.
Trainer: Use Potion on Winston.

Initiative:
Order: Bite
Accuracy: Pool 6
3 Dex + 3 Fight + 0 Brawl
Damage: Pool 4 - Def, Flinch *3*
2 Str + 2
Flinch *3*

Winston yelps as the Pokeball shatters, and the Paras surges forward again.

Vincent swears. Gonna have a word with the Prof about defective goods.

He quickly works his way through his list of options - there aren't many. If he recalls Winston, there was no guarantee that they'd be able to flee, and the Paras, well and truly riled up now, would likely pursue. He was right. We are soft.

The realization hits him like a truck. Or maybe it's another flashback. He can't tell. Not the time to work his way through misfiring neurons anyway.

Only way forward is through.

"You've given it good, but I'm going to need just a bit more. Push through this and end this now! One more time for me. BITE!"

Paras Round 4
Vincent's final command echoes off the buildings of Trillium Town and the distant toe slopes of Mt. Molten. "BITE! bite bite bite"

Growlithe responds to his trainer's confidence - not to mention the soothing Potion.

Growlithe's Bite

(3)(1)(2)(2)(2)(5) - I should switch out which dice I'm using. But one success is all it takes! Hit.

(2)(2)(5)(4) - Paras is knocked out.

(you're allowed to capture unconscious Pokemon in this game, though they won't be happy about it)

Winston gains 2XP and Vincent gains 1XP.

From the trees of Mt. Molten, a Mankey comes swinging toward Nathan and Ventus and Larry, whooping up a storm.

It's juggling a Berry in whichever hand, foot, or tail is not currently wrapped around a branch or making rude gestures at the "intruders."

Being a Mankey, it looks angry. The Fighting-type Pokemon looks like he wants to find out if Trainers are considered Normal type.

You have a good lead of distance (let's say 200 feet), but it's moving far faster than your hiking pace.

Time for a fight, whether we like it or not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bif3yzR6WdU

As soon as Nathan spots the Mankey, he hears a sharp sounding "BITE!" echoing around the area.  "What the...was that Vincent?  It sounded like it was coming from that direction...wait, but then that would mean...Ventus, we need to move, NOW!"  The appearance of the wild mankey and the resounding cry of Vincent's command have brought Nathan back to his senses.  He starts running in the direction of Vincent's voice and away from the mankey, but also tries to keep an eye on Ventus to make sure he follows.

Action: Run towards Vincent and away from Mankey.  If Ventus does not follow, stop and return next to him.

At this point, Ralts is unable to focus on anything but the negative emotions coming from the direction of Mt. Molten's base.  He fidgets, he stares at and out the window, he whimpers slightly...but what's a little Ralts going to do in this situation without his trainer to give him orders?

Winston gains 2XP and Vincent gains 1XP.

Winston wobbly at the overexertion, lies down on the ground, whining softly and panting furiously.

"Lets not let this go to waste, little guy." Resizing another Pokeball from his belt, Vincent lobs the capture capsule at the now unconcious Paras. "It might not like us now, but who knows. Maybe you'll get a new friend eventually."

Winstons whimpers, then suddenly coughs, hacking as it belches forth a small gout of flame against the sodden ground. Almost instantly, the muddy sward steams, baking into a patch of rock hard clay.

"And looks like you learned a thing or two in the process." He chuckles, scooping up the exhausted puppy in his arms. "Rest easy. I'll carry you."

Winston, settles into his trainer's arms with a contented yelp, then licks his face for good measure.

"You smell like an ashtray, you know that."

Weakly, the growlithe manages a whine of protest, then it cocks it's ears, glancing around fitfully.

"What is it, boy?"

He notes the sudden explosion of startled birds winging away from the treetops. Common sense would dictate getting the heck out of dodge, but he spots the figures, tiny in the distance and running towards him, feeling Winston tense in his arms.

"Shoot." He glances down at the tired dog. "You up for this again little guy? Day isn't out."

It lets out a whine that he takes to mean I go where you go, boss. Clearly unhappy, but not unwilling.

"Right. Lets go."

Lowering the dog to the ground, he reverses the grip on his cane, giving it an experimental swing. Slowly, the two of them advance cautiously towards the source of the disturbance.

Mechanics/Plot:

Might as well pick up the Paras, since I sank so much resources into making it stay down. It can hate me later.
That said. Given Winston's down with post will-point expenditure fatigue, this is going to suck.
