[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole

Ventus was correct. It was a Carnivine, growing in marshy water, patiently waiting for flies to pass it by. Once, it almost got a Pidgey. The researcher can learn some interesting things just from observing this plant:

-There's a noticeable difference between snapping at prey and using Bite. No gathering of dark energy at all.
-Carnivine looks like it hasn't quite got the hang of Vine Whip yet, though it's getting close. Instead, it uses a Bind attack to strike at prey, utilizing its long teeth and curling vines and prehensile leaves.
-This Pokemon wears an eternal grin, paying very little attention to anything too big to eat, until it poses a threat. Thus, if you provoke combat, you'll get to go first.

Analyzing the information he'd obtained, he quickly came up with a course of action with the highest probability of success. "Apsis, keep you distance from the plant at all time and fire off Poison Sting to wear it down. If the Carnivine attempt to close the distance after you attack, relocated farther away and await further orders , Ventus quietly said to it, silently staring down the overgrown venus flytrap.

Order:

Maintain distance from Carnivine and use Poison Sting. If it try to get closer to Apsis after it attacks, it will disengage and move further away from it.

Poison Sting:
Accuracy: DEX (1) + Fight ( 1 [I leveled it up]) + Channel (0)
Damage: Pool 2, Poison *3*

Hm, what's a good color OTHER than green for training a cottonee?

It's a fairy type too, I suppose!

Cottonee closes its eyes and tries to connect with nature. Suddenly she is borne up by a stiff breeze, and flung away from Shiva!

The sun's rays warm the air and create thermals, which Cottonee knows a little bit about riding. But this is a bit too stiff for her. She takes her trainer's advice to heart and concentrates on that warm sun, on growing just a bit stronger...just a little more oomph....and...she dives forward, out of the strong air current, and back into your arms!

Cottonee gains 1xp and learns Growth!

Staryu Round 1

Ralts' Initiative: 5
Staryu: 4

Ralts' body begins to emit light, same as the Staryu! Ralts is delighted with this, and turns to show Nathan. A few more Pidgey show up to pester Vincent, attracted by the light and then distracted by the food.

Confusion
(4)(5)(4)(3) = hit!
Damage dice: 2 Str + 2 power +1 STAB which you forgot -2 vitality = 3 dice
(3)(1)(2) disappointing

Ralts quickly turns and attacks with Confusion, hoping to catch Staryu by surprise. Unfortunately, Staryu is familiar with Psychic attacks and anyway, one side of a Staryu is much like another.

Water gun
Accuracy: 2 dex + 0 fight + 2 canalize = 4 dice
(1)(1)(6)(6) - net 1 success, hit
Dmg: 2 Str + 2 power + 1 stab -1 vitality = 4 dice
(6)(5)(2)(2) - Ralts takes 2 damage
Confusion: (1)

Ralts is a nice shiny target for the Water Pokemon. He'll be operating at a -1 Pain Penalization now.

(4) - 1 success, plus weakness - Carnivine takes 2 damage. 5 hp remain!
Poison: (4)(6)(2) - Carnivine is poisoned!

Growth
Accuracy: 4 dice, -1 pain
(5)(5)(2) - 2 successes
Carnivine's attacks will now deal 1 extra dice of damage

Carnivine pulls up its roots and snaps in the direction of the snake, which retreats to a safe distance.

Noticing that Carnivine is now poison, Ventus decides to double down on it. "Your prey is now Poisoned, Apsis, so use Poison Sting cripple it further, and continued to maintain a healthly distance from it. Try to lead it around so that it tires out and the poison has a chance to do its job." From what he can tell, Apsis appears to follow his orders much more readily than yesterday; perhaps allowing her to feast on the Poliwag was a good idea? Hmm...

Carnivine Round 2

The Ekans is definitely more responsive today. Carnivine doesn't look as tasty (at all), but fighting is still fun.

Poison Sting
(6)(6) hit
Dmg: (5) +1 Carnivine takes 2 more damage leaving 2 hp.

Carnivine does manage to close the distance with a bindweed vine, though it's not close enough to use its bite yet.

Bind
Accuracy is down to 1 dice from pain penalization
(5) hit
Dmg: 3 str + 1 power +1 growth -2 vitality = 3 dice
(4)(4)(5) Apsis takes 3 damage and is bound by Carnivine

Poison: (3) Carnivine now has 1 hp left and is poisoned.

Constriction: (1)(6) Ekans takes another damage
- he's down 4 and at -2 pain.

Looking rather alarmed that Carnivine managed to get a hold of Apsis, he tapped into the bond he had with her and commanded it, "Power through the pain Apsis and strike the Carnivine with a point blank Poison Sting! Get out of its grasp, and retreat to my side!" He didn't think that the venus flytrap would be able to grapple his Ekans, given how slippery the species is, but apparently nature's has a rather tenacious attitude towards interlopers. 'Persevere, my Apsis!', he though, empathetically conveying his concern for it as strongly as possible!

(Going to use a will point to add one unremovable success to Poison Sting's Accuracy roll. I won't let Pain Penalizations stop me [much]!)

While Nathan is thus distracted, a Pidgey tries to steal Vincent's breakfast.

Pidgey's initiative: 1d6+2 = 4

Vincent waves his arms, scattering the growing flock of pidgeys in a single sweep of motion. Noting the original arrival still stubbornly following at a safe distance however, determined to acquire breakfast, he allows a moment of utter whimsy to take root in his mind.

"You're persistent, little guy. I respect persistence." He intentionally keeps his voice soft and warm. "You like human food, huh?"

Smiling, he reaches into a jacket pocket and pulls out a small piece of hard tack, breaking off a tiny corner. Gingerly, he tosses the crumb of biscuit to the bird, careful to keep his motions controlled to avoid spooking the Pokemon and waits for the tiny bird to respond.

"Try this for starters." He waves off the other pidgey again. "Hey! HEY! ONLY the early bird gets the wurmple. First comers only, you slackers."

(Thanks! Looks way better~)

As her dear fluffball flew back into her arms, it knocked Shiva backwards to the ground. A Cottonee was relatively light in weigh, but it came out of the blue and with a unexpected force, so it couldn't be helped...

"Ough... ... ... Ah, but you did it, lil' one! Awesome... Thanks!"

She cuddled Cottonee, long and tightly, rejoiced that the training session went smoothly and successful. She'll stay a little longer at the spot she was now, just laying there with her companion-Pokemon, enjoying the scent of grass and daisies and the splashing of the river a few meters apart. After all that tension from yesterday, she was in need for a little tranquility. Constantly keeping the sky in sight, because unconsciously she was still hoping to encounter one or two Hoppip today...

"I'll stick to the original agreement for now, for I must be getting toward Trillium Town. But thank you for the offer. So kind!"

Round continues.

Oshawott's Tackle
Accuracy: Luck dice
(5) - Oshawott tries to pin Lileep and goes sprawling to the ground. Lileep stays along for the ride - and the constrict.

Constriction
(4)(6) - Oshawott faints.

"Cool. Well, thanks for the battle!" She has you fix up her Pokedex - it isn't hard for you. Her attitude toward you is pretty cold until you have finished, whereupon she takes a (grayscale) selfie with you on her newly fixed Pokedex.

"I hope you get some more rare Pokemon soon. And if you ever develop a Pokedex app I'll be sure to download it. Peace. Tell your friends I said hey, and that I'll probably stomp them in a battle too someday!"

META: someone said I got a mankey? I wasn't aware of the mankey yet

"Ok see you Rachel!" Larry said as he waved goodbye and goes to the tent and told everyone good night. The next day he got up early to train Oshawott Larry then trained Oshawott for the rest of the day until Larry saw a bunch of pidgey fly in to the air as if some thing happened.

Larry then head on over to the site and saw Vincent "oh its just Mr. Vincent" Larry thought to him self so then Larry decided to sit down and eat brunch "what is there to eat" Larry asked himself. Larry looked around and saw a tree with some fruit "ah time to dine!" Larry then looked around for other ingredients for a fruit salad as Larry was looking he saw Shiva training with cottonee and passed by, Larry then found some more fruit and took what he could grab. Larry graves a sharp rock and began cutting the fruit, after Larry cut the fruit he put them in a cup he had in his bag and started a fire with some rocks. After a long time of rubbing two rock together and started a fire, as Larry was cooking his fruit he could hear the others fighting pokemon and other trainers
