[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
@Iron:
Not to be a rules lawyer, but shouldn't the evade action take the place of the Machop's 1st priority move, with Sieg's secondary move (also a Knockdown) which has initiative over the Machop triggering before said secondary attack (Karate Chop)? So the knockdown should trigger before the Karate Chop, either fouling it or forcing it to convert into another Evade?

That was sort of the original plan, because as it stands, I have no answer to a damage race of that magnitude, short of evasion/disruption tanking which is the current goal. Right now, action timing is of incredible importance to how I plot my combat actions. The point of repeating the move is essentially a Morton's Fork to essentially force said Machop to either concede initiative to dodge, thereby reducing incoming damage, or concede actions to stand back up, effectively doing the same.

It's boring as all hell to watch, but I'm playing with the cards I have on hand.

If I can't pull that, I'm calling the fight immediately before said Machop pastes my Pidgey. Smile

And the first KO on our pokemon goes to Swiftfire. That was some pretty ridiculous bad luck, man...

@Iron
So, how long is it going to take Swiftfire to recover?

I'm trying to figure this out too, because there are a lot of scattered rules in the rulebook about it.

It's pretty clear that evasion can take place at any point during the round, essentially replacing one action.

So one interpretation is that Machop could have given up his 2nd move (which doesn't give him enough successes in this case) and thus do two actions in a row.

Or does Evasion change the order? That was my impression after reading this:

where they dodge a first-priority move and then attack (the third action is irrelevant).

And you get things like this:

Another interpretation is the logical one: it's easy to envision Machop doing what I described.

For now I'm going to go with what already happened. I'll ask on the Pokerole forums and we can have that ruling for next time. Maybe Machop didn't evade, but took full cover, thus forcing Pidgey to miss its conditional.

edit: someone had a similar question on the forum. In the example given by the admin, the evader attacks immediately after evading. But what I'm not sure of is if that's because the evader had 1st initiative anyway or not. I asked for clarification.

Quick question Iron, but is it possible to cast Status ailments on yourself? I only ask this because my Shroomish has Poison Heal, and the ability to use it on myself would give it even more sustain in battle.

I'd assume no.  At least, not with the usual means.  You could use a Toxic Orb if you can find one of those.  Or you can purposely engage a wild pokemon with a poison move (Poison Powder won't work on a grass type though, which pretty much leaves items, abilities, toxic, and damaging moves with the effect).  Or you can have your own pokemon attack yours in an attempt to poison it (ala double battle style).

One word of warning though: Poison Heal doesn't work outside of battle in the games, so it's not typically a complete immunity to poison damage.

I just remembered that I had another question too, actually. This one concerns the timeline. So, we know for a fact that GSC takes place 2 years after RBGY. We also know that RSE takes place alongside RBGY, and DPPt takes place alongside GSC. On top of that, we know B2W2 take place 3 years after BW, and that SM are about 10 years after RBGY. Everything else not known occurs at an unknown period of time after the generations before them. I'd also estimate Uranium to take place somewhere between B2W2 and XY based on the inclusion of gen 5 battle mechanics and a few gen 5 and 6 pokemon.

We also know the ages of all the protagonists in gen 4 and before is 10 at the time of their journey, mid to late teens in gen 5 and 6, and 11 in 7.

So, how far along in the timeline does this adventure take place? I ask mostly since Larry is apparently now related to Steven and May. Mostly because of the May portion. If she's 14-17, that'd probably place the adventure somewhere between gens 2/4 and 5. 18-19 would likely put it between B2W2 and XY. If it's after SM, she'd be about 20 or so. That's just my quick, loose speculation on it though.

Venom is an energy source to Shroomish, so in some circumstances it could be used to purposely heal Shroomish. Poison Sting only has a chance to poison, and grass moves won't work, and a damaging and poisoning move would still deal its damage (which Shroomish is weak to). The book specifies that Shroomish ceases to be poisoned after three rounds.

As for the timeline, I'm not too picky. Could be a slightly different universe, you know. I know almost nothing about SM so it's unlikely I'll include any plot stuff from that, but I'd say following strict accounting May ought to be nearly twenty, and something of a legend. An older cousin maybe. But whatever works.
