[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
(05-23-2017, 04:00 PM)Iron Wrote: Loyalty is its own mechanic, so basically only a naturally disobedient Pokemon will disobey an order. Their Loyalty score is tied to the ones who invested those points in them, ie, their first owner. Gym badges do help, and it's possible for a Pokemon to have Loyalty it gives to different trainers.

Loyalty has a use outside of battle too, because a more loyal Pokemon will be more likely to risk its life for its trainer. So even a calm and obedient Poliwag, who likes to battle but doesn't have any Loyalty, probably won't stick around when real danger looms.

I don't see any realistic reason traded Pokemon would gain extra XP. I might be willing to entertain arguments on the subject.

Did that answer your questions, or was it just rambling?

Just some thoughts is all.  Considering the style of the game, it makes some sense that the trade mechanics from the games wouldn't make it over.  Though I can think of one reason growth might happen more rapidly for a traded pokemon: differing training styles between trainers.  Of course, they'd have to have been training with one trainer for a bit before the benefits of learning another way could be felt, and it could easily backfire as well and decrease their growth potential if they don't take to the different training well...

Again, your call, I guess.  I don't see any reason to argue the point, really.

Anyways, can't wait to see all that juicy exp Nathan just got!

One argument for more XP for traded Pokémon is that they are learning a new battle style/tactic under the new trainer. Using that new information and what they already have learned from there old trainer, they are able to improve twice as much from battle.

As an example, say that the Porygon of Trainer 1 used it for data entry all the time, and so used him very logically in battle. Porygon learns from T1 how to battle 'Logically'. Then T1 decides he much rather be an arts major than a computer tech, so he trades away Porygon for a Smergle. The Smergle's owner, Trainer 2, is a whole lot more creative in his work and battle style, and has Porygon do far more elaborate plays in a battle. Now Porygon has learned/is learning how to battle 'Creatively' from T2, but that doesn't mean it has stop learning how to fight 'Logically'. Now it has two battle styles its learning simultaneously, causing it to gain more experience since, as its growing multiple battle styles rather than one.

Okay, so we thought of the exact same thing, basically.

Oh, @Lord Windos, you plan to fight Zamboni as well, now that Nathan handed you his CarnyCoin? Neat! Shiva will watch that battle as well. And... maybe Zamboni's up for a casual training battle... Since I still have my own exemplar of this blasted coins...

But, I'd appreciate if you'd have this fight after we're done with Poffin baking and conversation, so most likely on the next in-game day. Your call in the end though, but I feel things might get messed up and hard to read if you engage in three different activities at the same time.

Well, the poffin baking was the previous night, no?  Shiva can probably find us at the gym and catch Ventus's battle even though she had to miss Nathan's due to the daycare job.

How about finishing two activities first before engaing in another one? You had your conversation with Ventus in one go, without interuptions or other activities going on, so please give me the chance here. Mine is just as important as yours, where you heared about Ventus's past.

Plus, let Zamboni rest and heal up for now.

Windos and Irons' call on that one, I guess.  If either Ventus or  Zamboni wants to delay it for a little bit, I'll edit my last post accordingly.

Sorry if it seems like things have been sidelined for Shiva, lately. Just been on a roll, is all (in more ways than one). I'll tone it down a little for a bit.

Yeah, Zamboni needs a break. Good time to let everyone catch up and be on the same timeline.

Ah, well, after all it's good to see that you show some insight on the matter, and that Iron agrees as well. Feel free to do any other activities meanwhile though!
Neither me, nor Shiva enjoy the feeling of not being taken for serious.
