Poffineering Time!

"Yes, nine :one poffin for each berry that is being used. Ah, I see you already finish the filling for the first batch! Fortuitous timing, for the second round of pastry dough has finished rising! Now, just let me beat this dough down, and I'll let you fill them like last time!" Ventus replied, a serene grin on his as he took four blobs of risen dough and kneeded the air out. Once done, he sent all of it over to Shiva, where she would add the last of the filling to them.

Once she was done, he clapped his hands and took the baking sheet with all the Poffins. Gliding over to an oven (Which he already pre-heated; this is one prepared baker!), Ventus smoothly slid them in, and set the timer for about 15 minutes. "There! When the timer goes off, we'll have delicious treats to share with our Pokémon! Quite the enjoyable experience, do you agree?"

At one point, while she and the other cooks was distracted some other thing, he took one of the big chef knives that were laying around the kichen, and slipped it into his bag. He hated stealing, but in this case it was for the great good. There might be a time where he needs to defend himself...or do other things.

The Meeting.
Music: Uneasy Peace

While not entirely put at ease with Shiva consulation, it did warm his heart to see her try regardless. "That is just about all we can do about the future: Wait for it to come to pass, or forge our own paths through the present right to it. I normally prefer the later, but the wisewoman has taken some matters out of my consideration. At the very least, I am somewhat prepared for them, so worry not, Shiva," Ventus said, not quite smiling or frowning. His expression was neutral, in the way that it couldn't decide whether it was time to smile or frown. As Shiva told him to leave the Fairies to her, it firmly set itself as a scowl.

"No. That is my responsibility to bear, not yours. Shiva...I know as much about those vile Fairies because I had several encounters with their kind, with each and every one of them being harrowing at best. I know how to handle them; you...do not. Your affinity make it easier for you to care for the type, but malicious fae could all to easily take advantage of it. If you think you see a foul Fairy, get me immedianlty. Don't try to fight them, for I don't want to see another person I care about being taken away by them."

Ventus said this all in a harsh tone of voice, the sounds quite the departure from his usually warm and kindly tone. Slowly, though, he calmed himself, and just studied the lass right in front of him. 'Such a kind soul...but she doesn't even begin to know what she would get herself into if she started down that path. You lose so much on it, and never get anything of value back,' he though, keeping the frown from his face. He has already spooked her from his outburst, and he can detect that she has other things to say that are distinctly unpleasant.

When she turned down his offer, he was a bit surprise, but he didn't show it nor the relief that he felt at the response. He'll just have to inform her later, he supposes.

It was when she launched into her speech about herself, and the responsibilities pertaining to it, that he went utterly still . Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath, and let it out. *Whoooooosh*. Ventus let the silence linger some more, building it up to an almost backbreaking level, before he spoke once more. His tone was serious, but it was not interrogative. Just...disappointed? "....If I had to make a educated guess, I would say you are either involved in a highly illegal breeding project, or a top secret mission that requires utmost discretion. Don't look surprised; I've taken some breeding classes myself, and heard enough stories in college about this sort of thing happening. Its either those two thing, or you've been given there secret breeding techniques, a possibility I discounted because you took the time to sequester me here to tell me, and not just the whole group," Ventus says, nothing getting past his stony exterior. His body language is guarded, like a castle, and Shiva would need more than just cannons to break past it.

"Regardless of what you say, I will always worry about you. Just like I worry about Valder, Nathan, Dr. Mallorn, Larry, and everyone else that comes into my life. Asking me not to is like a man dying of thirst not to drink a cold cup of water. When you bring news of this nature to my attension...it just make me more concerned, not less," the researcher said, his eyes lidded and hand crossed in front of his face. He stared at her for a few seconds, before he let out a long, suffering sigh. He layed his hand down to his side, and gave her a look that was...resigned. When Ventus began speaking once more, his tone of voice was softer and more gentle on the ears.

"However, I have just finished reconciling with Nathan over...similar trust issues, and I would dispise having yet another one pop up to take its place. Especially with you, a good friend that has stood by me for so long now. So I suggest a proposal, similar to the one I made with Nathan about handling the Deyo Flowers. I'll leave you alone in your activites in regards to the Daycare, and let you conduct your business in relative secrecy. That will not stop me from picking up detail about it, but I shall not mention anything about you job unless you do so first. If, however, there is anypoint on our journey that withholding said information would put our party in jeapordey, or cause us great physical and/or emotional harm, I expect you to revel your hand. Otherwise, I'l start digging myself, both for those secrets and the gap that will enevitably form between us. That is my offer. I have made it both out of concern for you and the safety of the others in our group, so don't begrudge me for it."
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.

First at all, Poffineering!

'Quite enjoyable', he asked... OF COURSE IT WAS! Literally a blast, and overall enjoyable. Her Pokemon will surely rejoice as well!

"Sure it was! Thanks for...taking the time! Especially since...it's dark outside meanwhile... But I surely appreciate it!" ... A little hesitant, yet kind and gentle, he was also getting a hug on top of these words. Be glad, it's an honest one, Shiva normally isn't a person to initiate affection.

"Nine poffins overall you say... Three containing Ranc Berries. You're...eh, fine if I'll take them? You see, especially bought them for my own Pokemon, and paid good money for them." ... "In fact, that will leave four for each of us! And one to try and share right away. After all before our Pokemon can have them, we should check how they turned out, shouldn't we?"

Oh, of course she did not notice that he snatched that knife.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next up, meeting up.

Shiva was just about to object... But... weirdly, she did not feel like he wasn't taking her for serious as he said he'd rather not have her handle any vile Fairies. It was rather...like he does, more than ever, and is just wishing for her well-being. Similiar like at the incident with the Deyo Flowers. 'Not wanting another person he cares about being taken away' surely played a big role here.

"A...Alright then. But... Please let me stay then. Let me see what you know about them, and how to handle them. I won't bring myself into danger, but I won't leave the scenery either." This was more of a fact than an actual wish. She'll keep that in mind, and will stay adamant about it.

She also just led the silence linger, while he was taking his time to response on her concern. Oh, she was used to silence. There were all different types of silence... This one was the meaningful type. A neutral one, neither good or bad, the outcome is yet to be determined.

And, she did not comment on his 'educated guesses'. Not a single bit. In fact, she carefully avoided showing anything that might be a hint on what was right and what was false.

Maybe...she was taking too hard on him. Maybe, by this resigned look he gave her upon saying he'll only worry more, she was walking a wrong path and she should have not told him a thing. But...now was not the time to be unsure about the path choosen. This one was better, if Ventus does care for her, he shall not be suspicious towards her. Worried may be not much better, but on a second glance, it is. Suspiciousness is like a toxic to trust. Worry, can be, but must not.

"... I agree on your offer. Thank you." Yes, this was practically all she could bring up about his offer. Neutral emotions behind the words. This way, she will be safe. This way, he will not be suspicious. This way, she doen not have to reveal anything before time arises to do so.

Next up... Last concern. Then he'll be free. Her mood, as well as the atmpshere in the room eased a little. Just...a little though.

I... mentioned that there's a vital sign from Vincent, did I? Yes, I did, and there indeed is. You...maybe remember that black-spotted egg Professor Mallorn handed him back there in Trillium, do you? Well... exactly this egg is what I've been presented at the Daycare as the owners were showing me their in-house hatchery. They said that he has send it to them... And he had written on the shell that whatever hatches from it, it shall be sown to someone at the Telperion University in Botanville. For now, I am taking care of the egg. I cannot show it to you at the moment though, since it is at the Daycare until we leave town. Nathan...has already...seen it, however...“

At this point, an unbelievable amount of sorrow floads Shiva's emotional state. It was just... too much. It was enough. The burden of the situation and the spats with Nathan were too much of a load for her. You thought she wouldn't care, she would just move on and wait for the issue with her overreaction and scaring Nathan accidently off to fade into memory? She thought so, too. Until the secret mission with The Almanac came into play and the fact that he was practically avoiding her by heading off to the Gym right away at the next morning, arised a need to get along with him again, and clear the matters up between them.

(Of course Ventus will pick this up and ask what is wrong. Therefor, let me explain right away.)

It's... just wrong. You see, I've been telling him about the votal sign from Vincent as well, practically yesterday evening. He...was quite glad about it. However, I could not help but to pick up he showed some sort of...interest in this particular egg.“ Or maybe she was just assuming he did? Not...sure what particular emotion she was getting from his side... "OF COURSE that caused me to overreact somehow, I probably was stressing too much on the fact that I wished to keep it for myself, regardless of he has a Fire Type and I do not. See, I need the practical experience. He doesn't especially."

Maybe this was the old spat between two counterparting personalities: One, a firence determined battler, impulsive on actions and emotions, not afraid of danger to protect what he holds dear. One, a calm thoughtful soul who prefered to stay in the background to keep things running the way they should.

Poffineering time, where nothing is wrong!

Ventus smile somehow grew even bigger as he felt Shiva embrace. Returning the hug, he hummed in pleasure at the moment they were sharing. 'Its fantastic that I have a companion like Shiva! Reshirem must have blessed us both with our chance meeting. Let our friendship be long and prosperous!' he thought, filled with hope and happiness.

When it came time to pull the Poffins out of the oven, they radiated the most pleasant of smell. Taking a deep breath, he savored the aroma of their baked treats. 'Ah...how lovely! The Poffins turned out just fine, I see. Time for the best part: taste testing!' Ventus though, his month watering at the bakeys. As he was about to suggest it, Shiva beat him to the punch, already dividing the Poffins between them and assigning one of the Razz-Bulk ones for sampling. It had a lovely light purple hue, colored by the Berries juices.

"Well, since the berries we used were yours, its only right you get first pick! I'm fine with this arrangement. Now, lets splint this Poffin and dig in!" With that said, he broke of half of it and stuck it straight into his mouth. Chewing it slowly, he savored the flavor, enjoying how the Bulk and Razz berries came together to form a fine treat. "I was right, these Poffins do taste better. I suppose our teamwork made the product all the better, eh? Since the Poffin are perfect, now its time for the worst part of baking: Cleaning up the mess! If we work together, we should get done quickly, though! Now, lets hop to it!"

Not a second later, he was already picking up the dirty bowls and utensil, and carried them over to the sink for washing. The researcher would pick up his half of the bounty later; a clean kitchen come first!

(End Scene for Ventus; Get 4 Razz-Bulk Poffins! Phantom, feel free to continue the scene as long as you like! )

The Meeting

Hearing Shiva determined to stand by his side in the face of danger, he just let out sigh and nodded his head. Ventus really didn't want to argue with her over this; he already warned her of the danger multiple times, yet she still wanted to help him. 'I did warn her, but if she is determined to assist me in my...less than delightful activities, I won't stop her. Perhaps after she has a run in with a truly horrid Fairy type, she'll leave the rest to me from then on,' the researcher thought, wishing that would come to pass without any turns for the worse. She was a grown woman : If it was her decscion to go into hithero unknown danger....

Her silence on his inquiries about her activites all but confirmed that she was involved in some sort of shady business. He just doesn't know what it specific is....and with his promise, he might never find out at all. Not unless whatever...job she has starts to encroach upon the group, that is. 'She hides her feelings on the matter well, but silence is just as damning in this case. I won't be investigating her activities regarding the Daycare, but that doesn't mean I won't be watchful. Its imperitive I keep a close eye on her for now on; both for her wellbeing and the group's. Discretion is the key here; I should not worry her about my own suspicions,' Ventus contempalated, before giving Shiva his most genuine smile.

"Then the matter is settled Shiva. For now, anyways. Oh, and your welcome," he replied, his tone of voice clearing stating he is done with the matter. Fretting about the detail can come later. Or not at all, he silently prays to Reshirem.

The next topic Shiva brought to the table, Vincent's Egg, bewildered him briefly. 'So the old police officer was alive after all! Excellent! I just wish he could have told us directly, instead of disappearing into the frontier...' Ventus though, simultaneously happy and sad at the news. It appears that his old friend will not be joining them on their adventure any time soon. Perhaps one day, but not now. The business about his egg, however, took him off guard briefly. "Vincent had an egg? Now that you mention, I vaguely recall he had something important to deliver to said University, but it must have slipped my mind when things started getting...hectic." The researcher winced a bit; the Flowers Incident still lingers in his heart. "Well, you can always show me the egg later. If I get a good enough look at it, I might be able to ID the species of the Pokémon, but no grantees on that," the researcher replied, looking a bit pensive at all the news he received. This meeting with Shiva was quite a headturner...

When the lass in question broke down mid explaination, he jumped out of his set to come over and hug her. 'Oh no, now my friend Shiva is breaking down too. Why does my presence seem to cause this kind of reaction?' Ventus thought, looking mournfully at the woman. Just as he was about to ask her what wrong, she headed him off, telling him exactly what has gotten her is such a bad mood. Blinking a bit in surprise at this turnabout, he just smiled and shook his head. "*Chuckles* Quite aware of my empathy and predilection for worry by, are you not? Unexpected...but refreshing as well. Now I know what has caused Nathan to become uncomfortable around you," the researcher said, all the little pieces coming together.

Last night, she reveled the egg to him, revealing the good new that Vince was alive and well. He, understandably happy and excited, offer to help take care of the egg out of good will and a favor to his mentor. Shiva though he was muscling in on her territory, and harshly rebuffed him. Now, both of them were at odds with one another over a misunderstanding. "Shiva, I'm sure Nathan ment no harm in his offer for care. I doubt he thought about your expertise or job while offering; I'm sure he just wanted to help, and be closer to a possession of his then rediscovered friend. If you are willing to explain just why you want to be soly responsible for the Egg, then he'll understand. So don't be distraught over this, as your relationship with him can be mended with but naught a few words..."

Once again happy Poffineering!

(Uh, you practically said everthing already, so Shiva's just following your lead here, all delighted over the qualitative time with Ven and how well the Poffins turned out~)

Cleaning up might not be the most enjoyable part of cooking and baking, but it needs to be done! Especially since the kitchen they were in belongs to the Pokemon Center, its staff will likely have it back in a appropiate state.

Once everything has been wrapped up and the poffins were sealed securely for proper transport, both stepped out of the dinning area. Of course none was present by now, it was late evening... Felt a little weird to see an area that is normally filled with people and food so silent and empty. Same with the Lobby, although occasionally people are entering the Center - returnees from the Festival.

Nathan was nowhere to be seen, so were Larry or Valder, so Shiva brought up the suggestion to head to bed for now as well. After all, while she was not particularly 'tired', some rest after the baking session would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and she still needed to roam some books and lists to pick up a good suggestion for the Infiltrator Pokemon... Ven agreed to that, so she wished him a good night and peaceful dreams for now - but not before thanking him again for the time!

(Adding 1 Razz-Blukk and two Ranc Poffins into Inventory. Plusle and Minun were sharing the third Ranc Poffins the same evening while Shiva was still up. That was quite fun somehow, so thanks, dear! <3)

And...the Meeting.

Oh, Ventus might not know it - well, maybe he does - but Shiva was well aware that out there, there were Fairy Types that were as nasty and vicious as any Dark Type. Some of them, like Mawile and Mimikyu, were relatively well to handle if one approaches them in the correct way - how this 'correct way' may look like, depends on the individual exemplar of the species and the empathy of the one who wishes to handle them. Others, most noticable Shiinotic, need an especially big amount of carefulness and awareness, but can be trained very well if they obey and allow. F.A.E.S. is still a serious matter... But if Shiva wishes to specialise on the Fairy Type, she has to learn to deal with the not so pleasant species of this Type. Alongside Ventus, it seemed like a good opportunity, especially with his Ekans on hand.

She was quite relieved that Ven has shown at least some insight on the matter. She was not expecting him to simply agree to leave her alone, and it was almost certain that she would fail to prevent him from worrying for her (She nevertheless tried). But, he made it clear that he will not engage in any suspicious thoughts and actions, so she was...fine with that. For now.

As expected, he was happy, as well as disappointed over the news concerning Vincent - Happy that he was alive and fine, disappointed that they may never get the chance now to clear the matters that the Deyo Flowers have caused. But...this belonges to the past... Rather move on, not to overthink it too much.

"Surely I'll show you the egg once, if you like. I'll pick it up as we leave town. But... hehe, I doubt you'll be able to determine what species it beholds... Nor Mallorn, nor the Daycare owners could."

Oh, she appreciated the hug. Won't speak this out aloud, but she really did in this moment. It..eased the situation and tension a little. Did they already became so close to one another? Maybe... If looking closer, why should they not? She took care when he collapsed back in Trillium, she stood by his side when none else beside his dear Pokemon did during the Deyo Flower Incident, while he returned by actually caring for her and raising her spirits when she was insecure or down. Not to mention casual activities like baking poffins yesterday evening.

Next words are spoken in a somehwat emotionally drained undertone, but hopefull for everything will turn out well. The matter is just, when they will do so. "Oh, I...know that he didn't mean ill, not at all..." In fact, she just got hold of the wrong side of the stick. "It's a logical offer, since he does have the only Fire Type with Winston being with Vincent, sure. Maybe... it wouldn't hurt to hear him out about it, while still making clear in a more friendly way that I somehow...would rather not give the egg into the hands of someone else, even temporarly." Daycare is an exception here, they have a professional in-house hatchery and discovered the egg at all. "It's just...when and how. Maybe giving him a little appreciating space to sort his own thoughts would be acceptable."

After some understanding and thankful silence, Shiva remembered a thing... "So... How did his Gym Battle turned out? And did you see what Pokemon the Leader used? Because... alongside an Abra" - it was sleepnig next to the table the whole time, but mayb Ventus was too focused on Shiva to actually notice the Psychic Pokemon - "they also handed me one of these blased Carnycoins." Her voice was fairly insecure during the last few words - given she had no idea what to do with an exemplar of these coins, after all she does not wish to battle in the Gym. Maybe...she could trade it for a good item... But that way she would loose the coin itself... But maybe the Leader would be up for a...casual  battle for training?

(I'm practically finished here, so me and Ventus can move on to the Gym together now.)

Zamboni is ready to battle after resting up!

"The Pokemon that faced Nathan are still recovering with Nurse Joy. They'll all be ready to go very soon, but I like to use different members of my team against each opponent. So, tell me a bit about yourself?"

"A researcher? Ok, I know just who I'll use! Same rules as with Nathan: you get just one potion, but unlimited switch-outs. Glaceon! Let's go!!"

Ventus: (6) + 5 = 11
Zamboni: (3) + 3 = 6

"Well, I am from out of the region, so I might recognize it as an Egg from a specific species native to Unova. Either that, or I could take a picture of it and sent it to some of my researcher partners back at College. If I can't find out the answer, perhaps they can. But that is neither here or now, is it? Ventus said, his voice beginning to take on a more positive tone. Shiva Daycare activities are a great cause for concern, but it should not get in the way of their friendship. 'At least, not for the time being. Let us enjoy our serendipity, as long as we can.'

Once he felt that Shiva had calmed down from her spike of despair, he slowly let go, only lingering briefly before sitting back in his chair. Despite his more violent moments, his questionable Pokémon rearing practices, and his overprotective nature, she still held such positivity and trust in his actions. 'If only she new of some of the things I have done against treacherous Fairies, her opinion of me might have a sudden downturn. She doesn't know, but she'll find out eventually, if she chooses to stand by me still. I pray to Reshirem that our friendship doesn't break. She's, She's....important to me,' he thought, a little doubtful of the longevity of his friendship with Shiva. Well, if it come to crises, then it will so. For now, he will remain her friend and confidant.

After hearing Shiva respond that she'll try to rebuild the bridge between her and Nathan later, when tension had time to settle, he patted her shoulder in a show of silent support. Nothing he can say at this point can get to act further, so he'll just leave the two to make up at a later date. If things do not get better, he'll give either one a nudge in the right direction. 'As the resident worry wort, its my unofficial job to fret over the group like Swana over her chick! Its a stressful, and sometimes painful job, but I wouldn't never relinquish it," Ventus though, not entirely happy with the meeting he had with the lass, but was content with the outcome none of the less.

Letting the now comfortable silence hold between, he let Shiva dictate the pace of their conversation. Naturally, she brought up Nathan's gym battle, and Ventus couldn't help the chuckle that left him. "The boy utterly dominated Zamboni. Swiftfire and Ralts blasted a hole straight through his team, and end up having a decisive victory. The leader had a Delibird, Spealo, and a Rotom Freeze as a nasty surprise, but Nathan was able to take them all down without losing a single one of his Pokémon. Not a bad showing, if I say," the researcher said, very happy with his friends victory. After all, it allowed him the chance to have a go at the Leader himself!

To his surprise, Shiva revealed not only did she manage to get a Carney Coin, but also a Abra as well! "My my, you must have quite a lucky day at the Festival! While I would appreciate that coin, Nathan has already lensed me his other one to battle the Leader. Turns out you register the coin to fight him, then turn it in later for prizes. I heard that were giving out Elemental stones for 2 of them, so my best bet is he's going after a Water Stone for his Staryu. Speaking of the Gym, Zamboni's break time must be over by now, so why don't you come with me and watch me have a go at him? If nothing else and I actually lose, you could learn from my mistakes if you want to battle him as well. Now, let us be off!"

With that said, he helped Shiva to his feet (like the gentle man he was!), and lead her straight to Zamboni's Gym. On the way, they enjoyed the festival one last time, before it enviably winds down. All good things must come to an end, someday.

At the Gym

Walking toward Zamboni, he handed Nathan's other coin for him to register, before walking over to his side of the gym arena. In the stands, Nathan, Shiva, her Pokémon, and Michael where relaxing up there, ready to cheer him on in his trail against the leader. "Sorry for being absent, but I needed some time to stretch mind legs a bit. Cheerleading is surprisingly hard work, you know. Well, now I am ready to brave the tundra, Zamboni, so please try to do your best to freeze me solid!"

Seeing the Leader send out a Glaceon, he decided to send out Nathan's Porygon first. It would have no problems navigating the icy terrean of the battle field, and it would serve to see what moves this artic fox holds. The Porygon looked around briefly, before turning to look at him. While faint, he could feel a sense of bewilderment for the solid hologram. "Nathan has lend you to me for this battle, so for now you'll follow my orders. Zamboni vs Ventus, Round 1

Porygon takes to the ice like a duck to water! Its tanklike treads? feet? work well on the water, or it can float for brief periods of time. As soon as it sees Glaceon, its eyes light up with green 1's and 0's, and a wireframe model of Glaceon appears there, identifying critical weak points. The first thing it notices is that this Glaceon is a bit undersized!

Then it goes sliding across the ice toward the Glaceon in a full body Tackle!

Tackle
(1)(5)(3)(3) 1 success.

Evasion
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 1 Evade -2 multiple actions = 5 dice
(1)(6)(6)(4)(6) Glaceon easily dodges the clumsy...whatever a Porygon is.

Icy Wind
Acc: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize - 3 actions -1 accuracy = 4 dice
(1)(5)(1)(2) That's actually a miss, so there's not enough data for a Conversion yet.

Zamboni vs Ventus, Round 2

Both Pokemon escaped unscathed!

Tackle
(4)(1)(1)(1)

Evasion is wasted, for it must be declared before success or failure is determined.

Icy Wind
(5)(2)(3)(4) Hit! Porygon's eyes glow with data.
Dmg: 2 Power + 3 Str + 1 Stab -2 vit = 4 dice
(4)(6)(6)(2) Porygon takes 3 damage! and his Dex is -1 on top of a -2 pain penalization!

I'll give Porygon a minimum 1 dice on Conversion because Ventus is a scientist.
(4) He's going to need that Steel typing if he's to make any progress.

Tsking a bit to himself, he called back to the solid data program. "That's enough, Porygon. If it possible, perhaps we can get your targeting software updated, because what just happen was...unfortunate" Ventus said, not exactly happy with the bad strokes of luck. This fox was quite nimble on the ice, or so it appears. Porygon returned to his side, looking like a virus had gone to town on it. Returning it, he hand it to the waiting Nursing, before flicking his wrist and summoning Raphael.

They landed on the ice, and while it gave them some trouble at first, so they where twirling around, enjoying themselves greatly. Chuckling at his Togepi's antics, he called out to it. "I know the ice is fun, Raphael, but we have a battle to salvage now. Time to get serious, my angel." Hearing his master's seriousness, Raphael immedianlty turned to face the Glaceon, and tried its best to look cute!

Order: Use Charm on Glaceon until there attack is lowered, then have it use Metronome repeatidly. Not much else the little guy can do, at this point!
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.
