I'll battle River Rat, if you would please. If anything, I need to bone up on water types as well!

Hehe. Looks like the opponent was exploiting the rain... Well, not blaming, since using/changing the weather to one's own advantage - or the opponent's disadvantage - is just another strategy among the veteran battlers.

However, Cottonee seemed to dislike having water hurled in pulsing waves at her, and it was indeed a little...distracting. Distracting enough to loose focus and wonder what was going on at all.

But the fluffball did fairly well so far, Lapras began to look exhausted. "Just a little more, dear one! You almost did it, now focus!" No Persim Berry Juices anymore... However... The battle has somehow caught her... Giving up is no option now... Neither is taking any unnecessary risks.

Yeah, right. We cure that Confusion with the Full Heal Professor Mallorn handed out right at the beginning of journey. Then continue with Absorb until either Lapras is down, the opponent ends the battle prematurely, or Cottonee reaches a -3 Pain Penalization (This is when we use a Potion). If Absorb succeeds to inflict 2 Damage, 1 is healed for me.

After a little stubling around on the ice, Ventus eventually found an acolyte willing to fight him. Introducing himself as River Rat, they summoned a Dewgong on the field, which looked completely at ease on the icy terrain. Analyzing all the details available to him, and reviewing what he knew about Dewgong, he decided to send out Apsis to face them. In flash, the snake found herself on Ice once more, hissing at the cold yet again. She turned to give a baleful look at her master; she was not expecting to be ensnare into another freezing battle!

Holding his hand up placatingly to her, the researcher calmly said : "I apologize for subjecting you to these harsh climes, but I only did so in order for you to excel. Now, use Leer on it until its defenses drop, and follow up with a Bite attacks! Let's push ourselves to the limits!"

Order: Use Leer on Dewgong until its defense drops, the follow up with a Bite attack. Return control to me after it defense drop proc so that I can declare multiple actions at start of turn. Have her retreat to my side for healing when at -2 Pain Penalizations or less.

Moves:

Leer
Accuracy Pool: Pool 4 or Pool 2
DEX (2) + Fight (2) or DEX (2) + Fight (2) - Consecutive action (2)
Effect: Target's defense drops by 1

Bite
Accuracy Pool: Pool 5 or Pool 3
DEX (2) + Fight (2) + Brawl (1 [just leved it up!]) or DEX + Fight - Consecutive Actions (2)
Damage: STR (2) + 2
Effect: *Flitch 3*

I've been letting Absorb restore minimum 1 health if it hits at all. It does say round down, which I do for 2+ damage.

"That's a lot of items for a simple $100 battle. This girl has dedication, or else she's independently wealthy! Better give her the challenge she deserves, Lapras!"

Auger Round 6

Absorb
(4)(4)
(4)(2) Lapras takes 2 damage. Another hit will take her out of the fight! 2/10. Cottonee at 4/5 now, no pain.

Water Pulse
(2)(1)(6)
(2)(4)(4)(2) Cottonee takes 1 damage. 3/5, -1pain.
(4)(5)(2) Cottonee finally keeps her head within the torrential downpour and pulsating water show.

[u]Auger Round 7

"Lapras, clock's ticking! Ice Shard!"

Ice Shard
(3)(2)(1) Blastoff! Lapras aims just a bit too far downward, forgetting Cottonee is a floating Pokemon.

All Cottonee need do is hit.

Absorb
(2)(2) But it's a miss, thanks to the Pain penalization.

[u]Auger Round 8

Ice Shard
(1)(1)(5) "Argh!" says Auger. "Hruggh!" says Lapras.

Absorb
(4)(4)
(3)(1) +1. Lapras has 1 hp.

"Great work, Lapras. I knew you could hold your own against two opponents. With a bit more luck, maybe that battle would have belonged to you. I think our strategy is a winning one for fights where items are not allowed!"

"This is yours." He gives you $100.

Helios gains 5xp. Cottonee gains 5xp. Shiva gains 5xp.

You can't make multiple actions conditional, as they must be declared at the beginning of the turn. But given leer's 75% chance of success, I think it could still be a good strategy.

Also, only the FIRST multiple action is -2, SECOND multiple action is -3, the THIRD is -4 and so on.

That leaves you with 2 dice apiece for a Leer/Bite combo.

Also I forgot to ask if you wanted to have a wager on this battle.

Then I'll hold of on multiple actions until Leer hits. My Wager will be $200 Pokedollars.

The training seemed to go okay.  Time for some practical training!

"Huh.  A Misdreavus and a Durant.  Not what I was hoping to see, but alright.  Staryu, Porygon, time for you to get to work!"

Staryu is eager to finally see some action!  Porygon, being Porygon, runs a tactical scan with Download.  "Staryu, start with a Harden followed by Water Guns on Misdreavus!  Porygon, use Strikes on Misdreavus to take it down more quickly!"

Staryu
Order: Harden and water gun misdreavus on turn 1, followed by double water guns on misdreavus until it goes down

Porygon
Order: Double strike misdreavus until it goes down.

River Rat vs Ventus Round 1

"Mwaha. Dewgong, we will make this snake regret the day it messed with us! And we'll KO that Ekans, too!"

Ekans leers right back.

Leer
(4)(6)(5)(4)
Dewgong's defense/vitality decreases.

Dewgong growls along with its master's threat.

Growl
Acc: 2 Dex + 1 Fight + 0
(5)(5)(1)
Ekans damage output is reduced by 1

I laughed when you chose Leer. Leer is a move I wish the River Rat had!!
But it'd be much worse for you if you hadn't used it, so good choice!

River Rat vs Ventus Round 2

Bite
(4)(1)(6) Hit!
Dmg: 2 Str + 2 power - 2 vitality (+1/-1 buffs) = 2 dice
(5)(1) Dewgong takes 1 damage. 6/7hp.
Flinch: (6)(6)(2) Does Apsis realize she only needs 1 six to flinch? Oh well!
Dewgong Flinches

Bite 2
This time it's one less accuracy dice, since it's the second move.
(4)(1)
(4)(2) Dewgong takes 1 damage. 5/7 hp, -1 pain.
(6)(5)(5) Dewgong flinches.

River Rat vs Ventus Round 3

Bite
(3)(6)(6) Hit
(6)(2) Dewgong takes 1 damage. 4/7hp, -1pain
(3)(1)(5) It was like fighting a Dunseraph for a moment there.

"Now it's our turn. Dewgong, right back at him!"

Headbutt
Acc: 4 dice, -1 pain
(6)(1)(2)
Dmg: 2 Str +3 power -2 vit = 3 dice
(2)(4)(2) Ekans takes 1 damage 7/8hp.
(6)(2)(1) Ekans flinches. But this only removes his second action!

River Rat vs Ventus Round 4

Bite
(5)(2)(6) Hit
(1)(4) Dewgong takes 1 damage. 3/7, -2 pain.
(1)(3)(6) Hot dice for both parties, but hot dice favor multiple actions I guess! Dewgong flinches.

River Rat is letting it get under his skin.

Bite 2
(2)(1)

River Rat vs Ventus Round 5

The sound of crunching resounds through the battlefield.

Bite
(5)(2)(3) hit
(5)(3) Dewgong takes 1 damage. 2/7 hp.

"Dewgong, send Ekans into that chilly water!!"

Knockdown
(4)(4) Ekans falls into the water. He'll take -1 to accuracy rolls unless he forgoes 1 action to "get up" out of the water.
Dmg: 2 str +1 power - 2 vit = 1 dice
(5) Ekans takes 1 damage. He's now at -1 pain.

Dewgong hounds Ekans, preventing her from easily retreating or getting up.

Ekans loses his second action - not enough dice. The advantage is still clearly in the tooth of Ekans.

Shiva was overjoyed over the outcome of the battle! It was quite an experience, and dear Cottonee did absolutely amazing - shecame over to the battlefield, picking up the fluffball, and giving her a long and close cuddle. Regardless of her cotton is somewhat soaked from the rain Lapras summoned. Energy was flooding the battle, it was quite an interesting, yet new feeling - but it felt right and good, so there's that. (Spending 6XP for a level-up in Channel/Canalize. Next aim: Move tutoring! Cottonee is now ready to learn Mega Drain, and Minun is close to Spark.)

"You did great, dear one. Thank you for your bravery and determination, such will be rewarded and respected by me."... "For now, rest calmly and assured while your cotton can dry off - I'll help you on this as soon as your healed to full health if you allow me to do so." She withdrew the fluffball into her Pokeball.

"Oh... Eh, I wasn't actually planning to use three items during battle... But... I just didn't felt like giving up." Not much of a fighter, but if, she prefers not taking any bigger risks.

Accepting the 100$, thanking Auger again for the battle and bidding him goodbye and good luck for further battles, Shiva now thankfully handed the Pokeballs containing Cottonee and Helios to Nurse Joy. (I assume there is one nearby? If not, I'll just head to the Pokemon Center for healing.) Oh, and asking for a towel... Wouldn't be that great if she'd catch a cold now from the rain and icy battle.

-------------------------
Mechanics:
I'll wait until my Pokemon are healed up again, and probably hold a Training Session afterwards. If Ventus has finished his battle meanwhile AND I spot him again, I'll go to watch his rematch against Zamboni instead!
