The other cages are empty of people. The nearest one has a blue light akin to your red light. Raphael grabs that. Also in this cage is a bunch of broken glass, possibly bottles.

Ventus reaches the foot of the ridge. That's when the first of the intruders dares to step into the light.

A growling Pokemon, encouraged by his pack mates, approaches you with fangs bared. It's a doglike Pokemon, one you don't recognize at first. Its body is black, matching the night, but its muzzle and underside are red. It has dark purple rings on its ankles and purple ribbing on its back, like a violet ribcage. And its entire forehead is covered in a mass like a pulsing pink brain, with beady predatory eyes peering out from the side.

Ventus absolutely did not expect this, unless I miss my guess.

Could that be a..... but...

Apsis' Initiative: (2) + 5 = 7
Raphael's initiative: (5) + 5 = 10
Attacker's Initiative: (1) +2 Dex +4 Survival = 7

"No, no, it's not that...you don't have to come down here.  It's just..."

He sighs.  He can't lie to her, and she was going to doggedly pursue the topic until he spilled anyways.  Might as well just get it over with...

"...things...haven't been going exactly as planned recently...it's been hard..."

He still doesn't really want to elaborate on what's been hard, though.  Kirlia's still looking rather concerned.

Oof.  There it was...no getting out of it now...she never was the type to let up once she started something, you know?

"There have been a lot of...reminders, lately.  It's been...especially difficult trying to deal with them...and it's been a contributing factor to what's coming between me, Shiva, and Ventus a lot too...not that there haven't been good moments...it's just really hard to overlook the bad ones..."

He doesn't have to say much more than that.  She'll know exactly what he means by 'reminders.'  They've talked about both topics before.

Delta Houndour Round 1

Ventura did not expect to see such a horrific abomination of a Houndoor, but he immediately reacted when it started to approach him. "Raphael, use Charm on this blasted beast, then After You on Apsis. Apsis, Use Leer to soften it up, then sink your fang in and send a shock through this monstrosity! Do not let your guards down!" He said, growling right back to the beast. He is not intimidated by the fell hound, and he will show it what happens to interlopers...

Order: Raphael will Charm the beast, before using After You to shift Apsis to the top of the INI order. Apsis will use Leer and Thunder Fang to cripple this beast as much as it can. I'm taking this slow, so after the round is wrapped up, hand control back to me.

Moves:

After You
Accuracy Pool: DEX (2) + Fight (2) + Allure (1) - 3 (multiple actions) = Pool 2
Effect: Move Terget up to top of Ini order for rest of battle (Apsis)

Charm
Accuracy Pool: DEX + Fight + Allure - 2 (Multiple Actions) = Pool 3
Effect: Lower target's attack by 2

Leer
Accuracy: DEX + Fight + Intimidate (1 [I level it up for 6 XP!]) - 2 (Cons. Actions) = Pool 3
Effect: Lower Defense by 1

Thunder Fang
Accuracy: Pool 2 ( - 4 of its normal accuracy)
Damage: STR (2) + 2
Effect: *Flitch 2* *Paralysis 2*

"Yeah, he..uh...almost wasn't...he's fine now though.  Only a few bite marks left on his arm, now.  Going to have to be more careful around those Rattata in the future...though that one we faced was...rather large.  And aggressive looking.  Nasty looking rodent, too.  Got rid of it quickly before it did too much damage, thankfully...pretty thankful it didn't do anything worse...

"After that all happened though, I actually threw a bit of a party for us three trainers and all our pokemon.  Had a lot of honey to go around.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it a lot, just relaxing and snacking on some sweetened treats...Swiftfire played a round of tag with Shiva's Fennekin, and also gave her Plusle and Minun a ride, surprisingly.  Grid seemed to absolutely love the honey, being a bug and all.  Zippy and Princess were rather happy with making sure everyone was enjoying the honey...and double checking that they all knew it was them who gathered it all.  Staryu...well, Staryu was unreadable, as expected of a starfish pokemon, I guess.

"Oh, speaking of Staryu, I gave it the choice to evolve just 20 minutes ago.  Had a Water Stone on hand from the Spring Festival.  It ended up deciding it wanted to get stronger now, I guess, so it's now a Starmie.  It'll continue to be a strong team member, I'm sure.  Particularly since I'm planning to take on Corsage's Gym tomorrow."

It does help a little, talking about the good moments.  Kirlia relaxes just a little bit.

Delta Houndour Round 2

Apsis reared back from the unexpected psychic assault, before shaking her head and giving a nasty *Hiiiiiisssss!* at the monsterous hound. Ventus' eyes widened imperceptively at the unexpected attack, before they lite up with a flash of understanding, and a sinister smile grew on his face. "Oh, so this vile beast has a predilection for Psychic attacks? Apsis, I believe that a few Bite attacks is in order in light of this information, so tear into the mutt! Raphael, ready up with back to back Air Slashes if your sister doesn't finish them off. It time to put this abominable dog down." he said, chuckling a bit at the beast ultimate fate. Time to finish this fight...

Order: Apsis will use Bite twice on the Delta Houndoom, while Raphael will follow up with double Air Slashes if it somehow persist in life. If it gets knocked out...Ventus will walk over and finish the job. ooooo
