[Game] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure: Celadon City Vandel
#71
"I think you'll find this snake is a little bit more than that.  How about we try out your new trick, Arbok?  Coil up, and then Acid Spray!"

It was by no means discreet, but Arbok begins to glow with energy as Reiner touches the Key Stone in his pocket (Life and death scenarios would likely be more than enough to bond with the snake, after all.  Particularly since Reiner doesn't mistreat his pokemon like a lot of grunts)!  He's got no idea what kind of pokemon a Mega Arbok is, but he figured this kid was in for a harsh lesson no matter what the snake would be able to do!  Plus, there was no need to be discreet if he wasn't trying to do anything particularly underhanded and nobody yet suspected him for what he'd been doing so far.

(Mega Evolution grants +1 Strength, Dexterity, Defense, and Insight.  Arbok becomes Poison/Dark and gains the Petrify Ability [lowering all foes' Dexterity by 1], and a bonus +1 to its Intimidate specialty in this campaign)

Coil
Accuracy: 3* Dex + 4 Fight + 2* intimidate - 2 Actions = 7 D6
Effect: +1 Strength, Dex, and Accuracy

Acid Spray
Accuracy: 3* Dex + 4 Fight + 1 Canalize + 1 Coil - 3 Actions = 6 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 5* Strength + 1 STAB = 8 D6 base
Effect: Lowers target's Strength by 2.  2 Chance dice to flinch the target from Petrify.

Young Brat Joey Battle Round 1!

Wheelier decides that the best defense is a great offense, and immediately lunges for a vital point of the giant snake's body!

Super Fang
Accuracy: DEX (3) + Fight (3) + Brawl (3) - 1 Accu -2 Action = 6D6 Dice
(6)(2)(4)(2)(4)(3) Hits
Damage: 1/2 Max HP of target = 7 Dice
(5)(6)(4)(3)(6)(1)(6) Arbok takes 5 Damage; 9/14 HP, - 1 Pain

The moment that Reiner touched the Key Stone in his Pokémon, he felt an icy chill shot up his arm, causing him to automatically recoil away from it. What...what was that dreadful feeling? Was it...was it the Arbokite reacting to his contact with the Key Stone? A growing sense of dread begans to fill the Top Grunt , but its too late for him to change his mind. Arbok is Mega Evolving.

Music :The Shadow of Yharnam

Unlike most mega evolutions, their was no bright flash of prismatic, rainbow coloured light during the transformation. Instead, a noxious cloud of toxic miasma is expelled by the Arbok's body, driving away onlookers and even causing you to take a few hesitant steps back. A black light, an impossible, unnatural phenomena , shone from the hazy clouds depths as the form within grew, and grew, and GREW. In a matter of second, the light diminished briefly, before it grew even brighter in one last sinster *FLASH!* , dispelling the poisonous gas, and revealing unto the world the unmitigated terror that lay within.

Mega Arbok

Its hooded head, once depicting a blood chilling face, now has become even more blood chilling as it now looked like it was ready to devour anyone whole. That was the least terrifying change to Arbok. 7 new snake like heads emerged from its body, 6 curled in front its already scary hood, and one that has replaced the very tip of its tail. A wide, broad black scale pattern emerged on its back, along with a red trim that separated it from its purple bottom half. His eyes where now bright yellow, with natural black and red eye liner rim them. Overall, this thing was anyone's worst nightmare, and it cemented that status by letting out a horrifiey cancophoney of noise!

*HIIIIIISSS!* *HIIIIIIIISSS!* *HIIIIIIIISSS!* *HIIIIIIIISSS!* *HIIIIIIIISSS!* *HIIIIIIIISSS!* *HIIIIIIIIIIS!* *HIIIIIIIIIS!*

The Ratticate's eyes bugged out at the sight of the monster, and almost pissed themselves in sheer fear at the thought of facing the beast. His trainer Joey, unfortunately, did not have the same iron clad willpower as his beloved rat.... All combatants DEX dropped by 1.

Coil
(3)(5)(3)(4)(6)(1)
Mega Arbok's Attack, Defense, and Accuracy increases by 1

The once hot blooded Joey now had the wind completely taken out of his sails, as he barely managed to stop trembling in fear and restrain the urge to run away with all his vigor. "What...what IS that thing? How the hell is this possible?!

Wheelier, just as terrified as his master is about the Mega, lashes out in blind fear with yet another viscious bite!

Hyper Fang
Accuracy: DEX (*2) + Fight (3) + Brawl (3) - 3 Actions = 5D6 Dice
(2)(6)(6)(6)(6) Fear must be a really good motivater! Hit!
Damage: STR (*4) + 3 + STAB - Vitality (*5) = 3D6 Damage
(5)(2)(5) Mega Arbok takes 2 Damage; 8/15 HP, -1 Pain
(3) Nope, no Flitch

Looking down amusedly with its many heads as the rat tried to futilely nibble through its scale hide, blasts it with Acid Spray that had been only magnified by its 7 new mouths to use!

Acid Spray
(6)(6)(4)(6)(6) Its quite effective. Critical Hit.
(4)(2)(4)(5)(5)(4)(1)(5)(4)(2) Ratticate is instantly knocked out.

Panicking at the sight of his prized fighter being taken out with a single salvo of Acid Spray, immediantly recalls it and sends out his second and last Pokémon: A  Fearow! One that looks to be bigger and beefier than average, at that. "Trista , take care of that monster quickly, before it eats all of us alive!" Fearow, while clearly nervous about facing such a nightmare, puffed up its chest and glared right back at them. No one would harm her master!

Fearow's Initiative: (4) + 3 = 7 Fearow goes first, due to Joey's base DEX being higher than Reiner's.

Current Status:

Ratticate: Knocked Out
Mega Arbok: 8/15 HP, - 1 Pain
Fearow: 9/9 HP, Fresh (+1 HP for being Overgrown, and +1 Vitality Surprise)

(Actually Arbok should be going first because of his +1 to dex from the Mega evolution giving him an initiative of 8. Really flips the initiative order on its head! EDIT: Nevermind, just double checked the core book and Intimidate only applies on the switch in/mega evolution like in the games. Arbok still has a higher initiative, though)

"Well, wasn't quite expecting that to be so effective.  But regardless, it's obviously a trick you're not familiar with.  I'm sure you'll hear all about it soon, though.  I hear there's some demonstrator from Kalos who's coming in the next few days to talk about Mega Evolution here at the festival.  And don't worry about me being unable to control him.  He'll listen to me just fine.  For example: Arbok, care to use one or two Thunder Fangs on that Fearow?"

Thunder Fang
Accuracy: 3* Dext + 4 Fight + 1 Brawl + 1 Coil - 1 Acc - 1 Pain - 2/3 Actions =  5/4 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 5* Strength + 1 SE = 7 D6 Base + 1 Damage
Effect: 2 Chance dice to Paralyze, 4 Chance dice to Flinch

(Bleh, I goofed Fearow's INI even more by forgeting about the 2 Survival Joey had on top of the DEX bonus of Arbok. After everything has been sorted out, Arbok will go first in this round. Sorry!)

Mega Arbok Battle Round 2!

"Just...just don't kill my Pokémon , ok? and me neither while ya at it..."
Fearow knows by the sparking fangs of that horrifying snake that it bods ill for her, so she tries to dodge the lighting quick strike by taking to the air!

Thunder Fang
(1)(3)(4)(4)(2) 2 Successes
Fearow's Evasion: DEX (*2) + Fight (3) + Evasion (3) - 3 Actions = 5 Dice
(3)(6)(6)(3)(4) 3 Successes

Fearow manage to soar above the attack, and tries stretch ing its wings to limber up for this harrowing battle!

Agility
Accuracy: DEX (*2) + Fight (3) + Atheltics (1) - 4 Actions = 2D6 Dice
(5)(1) Fearow's DEX is raised by 2,  and now is at the top of the Initiative.

Mega Arbok tries to strike out at the massive target of a bird again with Thunder Fang, provoking yet another evasion attempt by her!

Thunder Fang
(5)(5)(1)(1) Its own snake eyes are working against it! 1 Success
Fearow's Evasion: DEX (*4) + Fight (3) + Evasion (3) - 5 Actions  = 5D6 Dice
(5)(4)(2)(4)(6) 4 Success

Fearow yet again escapes the sparking jaws of the snake, leaving the former is a great mood and the later just plain pissed.

Current Status:
No change in HP of combatants, but Fearow has 4 DEX now and is on top of the INI order.

Reiner chuckles.  "Don't worry, kid.  Arbok here just loves scaring people, that's all, and if you're bird is withdrawn or faints, he'll stop.  A single Ice Fang if you wouldn't mind, Arbok."

Ice Fang
Accuracy: Accuracy: 3* Dext + 4 Fight + 1 Brawl + 1 Coil - 1 Acc - 1 Pain + 2 Single Action = 9 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 5* Strength + 1 SE = 7 D6 Base + 1 Damage
Effect: 2 Chance dice to Freeze, 4 Chance dice to Flinch

Mega Arbok Battle Round 3!

Now fully limbered up and invigorated from her tango with that monsterous snake, Fearow immediately dropped from the sky, spiriling down with increasing momentum until she suddenly levels out close to the ground and crashes into Mega Arbok, still spinning!

Drill Run
Accuracy: DEX (*4) + Fight (3) + Brawl (3) - 1 Accu - 2 Actions = 7D6 Dice
(2)(4)(2)(4)(6)(5)(6) Spiril power at work. Critical Hit.
Damage: STR (3) + 3 + Sniper Crit (3) + SE - Vitality (*5) = 4D6 + 1 Damage
(2)(4)(6)(2) Mega Arbok takes 3 damage; 5/15 HP , - 2 Pain

While a powerful blow indeed, it unfortunately left it in close proximity to Mega Arbok, a fact that is not lost on Fearow as the cobra's fang emitted a glacial coolness, before it struck!

Ice Fang
(6)(3)(5)(3)(4)(4)(1)(6) Icy pain surges through the bird. Critical Hit.
(3)(1)(5)(2)(2)(4)(5)(5)(6) Fearow takes 6 damage; 3/9 HP , - 2 Pain
Freeze: (6)(5) The coldness proves too much for her. Fearow is frozen
Flitch: (3)(6)(4)(1) To add insult to injury, she would have been flitched otherwise.

"FEAROW!" the boy shouts in terror as he saw his closest partner become frozen solid, through and through. Looking at you frantically, Joey starts to tear up, before he pleads for his friend's life. "Pl...please stop it! I give up, I'm sorry for the insults! I'll give you anything, just....just don't hurt Trista anymore. She...she means the world to me." The kid is clearly at the verge of breaking down from the combined fear of Mega Arbok and the safety of his Pokémon, despite your assurances otherwise.

The ball is in your court; what do you do?

Another chuckle from Reiner.  "I said don't worry, kid.  Maybe you aren't so bad after all.  I like a person who obviously cares for their pokemon.  Arbok, that's enough for now, you've won.  You like your new form, buddy?"

Arbok's many snake heads all hiss in pleasure.  This felt good.  REALLY good.

"Well, it's only temporary, and we can't use it all the time, but we'll be sure to use it when we need to.  So, kid.  I'm actually in a pretty good mood right now, for several reasons.  I'll just collect my prize money for winning the battle, then I'll have Arbok thaw out your Fearow with a restrained Fire Fang so you don't have to worry about any long term damage, and then I'll recall him and we can both be on our way to the Center.  Sound acceptable?"

He didn't want to appear completely heartless, after all.  Particularly since there was a bit of a crowd gathered now...

Joey rapidly nods his head up and down to you, clearly relieved that his Pokémon no longer had to suffer the wrath of Mega Arbok. Still fearful, the boy never the less approaches you to hand over the prize money, as you requested. "He...here ya go. Thank ya...thank ya for your kindness. I'll...take ya offer of thawing my Fearow out, but please be careful," says, before quickly retreating over to his big bird's side, still apprehensive about the whole affair.

You get all the prize money on offer for this Encounter, as well as a Doduo he caught earlier. It quite apparent that he generously rewarded not out of respect, but as a form of insurance for his group's wellbeing.

Arbok gains 7 XP for the battle, as does Reiner.

As soon as Mega Arbok thaws Fearow out, the boy swiftly hugs her long neck, comfortidly petting her soft down feathers, before returning her and beating a hasty retreat to the Pokémon Center without waiting on you. He REALLY does not want to mess with you any longer... The crowd, while uncomfortable about your transformed snake appearance and performance, does not overly judge you about the battle, and began to disperse to see what other attractions there are.

Once you made your own trip to and from the Center, you are all to keen to pick up the changes in the fountain square. Namely, the increased amount of Police Officers that are present, patrolling the area as well as keeping close watch over the attractions and Vendors, making thievery or any criminal action that much more difficult to pull off. Erika had also returned, and was once again surround by her own little gather as she entertained them with polite conversation and the occasion battle.

Encounters:

Erika has returned to the square, along with a squad of Police officers overseeing the area. All Pickpocket check suffer a -1 Penalty now, and the difficulty of robbing Vender and Stands has increased by one level (From Moderate to Hard; Hard just gets somewhat tougher). All other encounters all present and unchanged.

There is one change, however...

Pink Thing
Bid: All
Difficulty: Varies
Reward: ?
Note: It seems that all the commotion has caused a certain something to appear...

On the way back to the Center, Arbok reverted to his non-mega form.  Reiner couldn't feel the dull throb of energy from neither the Key Stone nor the Arbokite now.  "Must need a little time to recharge...I'm sure it'll be quick enough, though." (The Key Stone needs a scene to recharge before it can be used again if we're going by Skull Ruins rules on that)

Back in the town, it definitely seems like Erika is starting to crack down on things.  More police had arrived, as he'd expected.  He didn't expect it'd be any trouble for now (Leveling Stealth from 1 -> 2 for 6 exp!).  He'd lay low for a short while though, just in case.

A brief flash of pink catches his eye while he's looking around, though...wait...that couldn't be...

Reiner motions for Weavile and Felicia to go investigate that pink thing.  Stealthily.

Monday Evening

Weavile's and Felicia's Tag Team Thievery!
(1)(6)(3)(3)(5)(4)(3) 3 Success
Random Target's Alertness: INS (2) + Knowledge (2) + Alert (2) = 6D6 Dice
(4)(1)(3)(1)(2)(4) 1 Success

Item: (2) Rarity: (5) + 2 = 7

Even when on the hunt for elusive prey, the cat burglers still find the time and opportunity to lift a Persium Berry from the Tamayaki Stand as they continue on their way.

Weavile's and Felicia's Tag Team Stealth Op!: DEX (2) + Fight (*5) + Stealth (2) [No penalties for basic Stealth mate!] = 9D6 Dice
(2)(5)(6)(4)(5)(5)(5)(4)(2) 7 Success, Nice!
Pink Things Alertness: Insight (5*) + Knowledge (5*) + Alert (5*) = 15D6 Dice Oh Dear, that's a lot of dice....
(2)(4)(2)(6)(3)(2)(2)(4)(5)(2)(2)(1)(3)(2)(3) 4 Success, looks like its not trying to hard to be attentive to its surroundings

With every ounce of stealth, cunning, guile, and a lot of lax attention on their target's part, they managed to make their way towards their the mysterious pink creature, surround it from two different angles and elevation. This was to ensure two things: that their quarry would not be able to spot both at the same time, and to cut off most possible escape routes for it. When they got into their position and got a nice look at the pink creature, they both had to hold their simultaneous gasps in shock.

It was Mew! Or a Mew, if you want to be more specific

Its current location, along with the two other felines, was in the shadows of some run down building, far away from the thick crowds of people and the occasional wandering tourist. The psychic seemed to be observing someone in particular, judging by that look of concentration on its face, but they can't quite tell just what exactly.

Weavile uses a complicated hand gesture that you taught him last night before going to bed, he confirms you hopes. What will you order your cats to do now?
