[Meta thread] Iron's PokeRole Adventure: The Skull Ruins
(08-02-2017, 11:09 PM)PhantomUnderYourDesk Wrote: However, I'm on @Iron's side concerning the Gym Battle. I feel you people have been at least warned once in-game by an NPC about Chuckles being no easy and merciful opponent, especially not with Ghost Types. Bad phrasing in ordes can happen anytime, looking through orders and edit the wording if needed might help...

Phantom dear, Iron has the right to make challenging opponents, but we also have the right to complain if we feel that said challenge is a might bit unfair or lop sided. We have been warned, yes, but In my opinion the level of warning was not exactly sufficient (Sleep and Wil-lo-Wisp burn is a given with Ghosts, especially Genger, but Curse spam with minimal drawback is....blegh), and proved rather pointless when he designed Chuckles mons in such a was to nullify the effectiveness of warnings. The fact that he sprung Ghost having the ability to partially ignore cover also grinds my gears somewhat, as that feels like a rule he implemented blow our original strat out of the water. Which, again, is well within his prerogative, but its not exactly fun having these types of set backs against us.

Zamboni was a great example of challenge done right, as both fights I had with him felt hard but ultimately fair to face, and I was not even that bummed out when I lost the first time (Sullen, yes, but not pissy) . Chuckles feels like a challenge done wrong, but Iron may have had no choice if he wanted to withstand Eleweb spam.... Its not great for us, but I understand where he is coming from.

Whoops, haven't replied you on this one yet, @Lord Windos... But yes, I see your point. Of course I cannot completely relate and therefor only give you my view from the side of an onlooker since I'm not participating in the battle.

But I'm still on Iron's side somehow... They're ghosts, Windos. They can pass through walls and most solid objects, so I can see where pressumably the idea that they can partially ignore cover comes from. On the other hand, seeking cover behind them wouldn't work fully either. While this rule surely may be annoying to battle ghosts and okay, the rule could have been mentioned before battle started, I feel it subliminally increases the authenticness. I already expressed to GM how I enjoy the natural feeling of the campaign, how everything can have consequences etc.

As for Curse-Spam, wouldn't you do the same if you had a Ghost-Type with the move? I know I likely would. It has been adressed and agreed(?) before that if a move has 'Will' as its Accuracy in Corebook, it will be given a normal Accuracy Roll instead. This is for Healing moves and I asked for the Roll for Baton Pass too, so why should Curse be an exception...? ._.

Enough of Chuckles though, how about moving on to a...happier thing... Like, what does Raphael think of battling for Shiva? ^^ It has been confirmed that he'll obey orders without objecting.

GMs always have to make a lot of calls that aren't covered by the rules. Sometimes it adds to the fun in awesome ways, so I'm not afraid to take risks with rules calls. And once Ventus gets his hands on a coveted Ghost Pokemon, he'll get to abuse their ghostly powers all he likes!

I don't feel like these GM-calls are risky in any way...Well, so far I don't, I rather enjoy the choices somewhat!

The problem with Curse is that , unlike Grudge, Healing Moves, Baton Pass, or Healing Moves, its just to good with the Accuracy Roll and/or a more severe drawback. Curse is a reverse Lucky Chant in this game, and in a game where dice rolls are the core mechanic involved, this is REALLY deleterious, to the point of obnoxiousness .

Ventus would likely NEVER use the move, due to its nature being similar to dark magic, the 'high' cost it can have, and how far it crosses into 'unfair' territory to him. He'd be severely disappointed if Shiva ever openly endorsed the usage of the move, to say the least.

The Ghost Cover makes logical sense, but gameplaywise it make little sense, especially in regard to both the Games and core Ruiebook. I understand this, but learning about this change during battle and not before is....annoying.

As for Raphael, he'd had no qualms fighting with his master friend! Especially one that is special as her!

Ah, the fist picture is that blurred and bright that I barely see anything in there... But it looks like some damn fool has left their trash there in the forest... I thought that's forbidden and will be punished by law!

It is, but how do you catch the villains in the act? Or prove beyond reasonable doubt that they are they ones who did it? America is a big place, full of isolated places like this one! So unfortunately, the littering laws are seldom enforced.

There's white magic, and there's black magic. I feel the next person who dares to insult magic or calls it 'fake', will taste a Crucio aka Ghost-Type-Curse. ^^ Fennekin, would you mind to lend me your basswood stick for short? Besides, what does it contain: The hair of a Minicorn, a tail feather of a Pajay or the heart fiber of a Dragonite?

Nope, seriously, I highly doubt Shiva will ever get her hands on a Ghost-Type knowing Curse. The only Ghost-Typed Pokemon she would try to catch if encountered are Yamask and Mismagius, and both of them don't have Curse in their move pool.
