However, I do not have all night, and I rather not have daughter run across us and spoil the good mood we created. You also would like to get on with your business, whatever it may be. So how about we make a....compromise. Let us battle it out, an old criminal versus a young crusador. I win, and you will be coming with me, and we will work out our new relationship later. You win, and I leave you and Giovanni alone, and let my daughter handle the matter. If you can't win, then you will hardly be able to face what the Elder will send out against you. If I can't win a fight against you, then I too out of shape to face down that fool of a Boss of yours, no? What do you say to this, Mr. Arendse?"

Reiner almost can't believe what he just heard.

To the point where he actually starts laughing.  Quietly at first.

"Ya know, you're not the first to suggest such a compromise this week.  Mew was the other one.  She held back a lot in our battle, but it was enough to show me that she still meant business.  Her freedom was on the line, after all.  Oh, the irony...she's going to get a real laugh from this when she hears about this..."

More laughing from him, this time a little louder.

"Very well then, Valarie Malcolm.  You have yourself a battle, and a much more pleasant one than I'm sure either of us were expecting.  Let's keep it simple, shall we?  One pokemon at a time, no items.  I'm sure we both have plenty we'd like to use in such an important battle, but then we wouldn't get to see who's really the stronger of the two of us, would we?  Don't expect me to go easy on ya, though.  I stand to both gain and lose a lot since this could determine the path I travel." (Survival increases from 2 to 3 for 16 exp!  Let's get those initiatives up!)

Except from the sound of things, Arial wasn't very particular about the whys...hmmm...

"I know this is probably going to be difficult.  But I'm fairly confidant I have a fair chance.  I don't know if assisting in a battle started under these circumstances falls under your job description or not since my life isn't explicitly in danger.  Or if Malcolm here would agree to the 'interference.'  Your risk to take though, I guess."

As he says this, Reiner casually pulls the Extra Rare Candy out of his pocket and pops it in his mouth, as if he was just having a simple snack or something.

Yeck.  It was disgustingly sweet...he could see why Mew didn't like them.

For the first time in this night, the old giant looked stunned by what you said, before his expression turn mirthful as he slowly started to laugh himself, with it growing louder and deeper until he was letting out an Uproaring like an madman! Placing his free hand on his gut, he slowly calm himself down and managed to get out a respone, still chuckling at bit. "Hahahahaha....if the great Mew thought up of a similar plan, then my must be brilliant indeed! Oh the irony, history repeating over and over, both in our lives and battles....I agree with most of your terms, but disagree about restricting Item usage. Strategic use of Items have save my life many a time, and are just as much part of battling as power or skill. Hmm, how about this? For every item I use, you get to use one yourself, vice versa, and we can save up 'uses' for future. Fair, no? Well, now that is settled, let use commence with our battle, and see if not only our power or talent will she us through, but if we are determined enough to win. Since I'm an old gentleman, I will summon my Pokémon first, and give you a bit of an advantage."

At Arial's sudden insistence to fight with you, the old man just shook his head no. "Neit. This is a battle between Mr. Arendse and I, Arial. If you wish to fight a Malcom with this man, then team up with them against my daughter. Compared to her, I am like gentle breeze to their raging typhoon of wrath and fury, so he will need all the help he gets there. Interfere in this fight, and you will find a most unpleasant truth of my experience. Of course, If I win, then you are free to challenge me yourself and fight for you associate's freedom. I will give you that much, if you are craving a fight or the right to defend your ward. Now, without further delay... "

Valarie then reached into his trench coat, and tossed out a Pokémon, revealing a great big Typhlosion! She (they felt like a she) look over to her master, who inclined his head to her, and then face you once more, snorting out a white hot flame as she waited for you to summon your own battle partner. They didn't look raring to go, but you could detect a raging furnance of blazing power churning within them, just waiting to be let loosed on this peaceful night. Best not underestimate this Fire Mouse Pokémon...

"Buddy, I faced Mew at her full strength and WON.  If I can't win this, then I've still got a lot of growing to do.  But let's see how Malcolm handles what's coming."

Reiner closes his eyes as he contemplates how to go about this...and then he smiles.

"Alright, Valarie.  Let's see how you like...this."

He opens his eyes, and they're subtly glowing with a blue light as he tosses out his first pokemon.

"Time for you to show me your might, Yang."

As the battle begins, Reiner uses Zen State to buff his team!  Time for some initiative rolls!

Effect: Raises all Attributes by 1 for the entire party!
