"If you like, I'll walk the rest of the way with you, if you aren't planning to beat around the bush too much."

It still doesn't completely alleviate the nervousness, but it does help a little.  Having an extra trainer around, particularly a League Official, is always handy.  The Scimitars didn't seem quite as intimidating now.

Nathan lets out a breath.  "That'd be appreciated.  Thank you.  I seem to be getting into all kinds of trouble lately, after all...not that I can't handle a little trouble if I have to."

Confidence slightly mended, he continues. "So, how about a little sparring, then?  I'm sure we could both use the practice.  I know I want to be ready if something does happen."

Fisherman Matrim Round 4

Michael let out a cry of triumph at Octillery retreat, kicking their feet upwards in the sky in a feat of dominance and power! No Ice type or vison obscuring moves will stop his domenace on the battlefield, especially not coming from a Water type Pokémon! Orah! A bit bemused by the bluster his precious mushroom was radiating in his accomplishment, Ventus shook his head and let out a polite, good natured laugh in response. "The same is true regarding your performance, my fellow angler! I believe that, given how peppy and confidant my Shroomish Michael appears to be right now, I think he will stay out on the battlefield for the time being and see that whooper you realed in! Give us your best effort to take us down, good sir!" he said, receiving an affirmative cry from Michael as they readied themselves for another tough fight! Bring it on, and he'll drain the very life from them!

Order: Michael is going to remain on the battlefield for the time being, and still use Absorb 3 times per Round. The moment his HP dips below 4 HP and he misses an Absorb, Ventus will immediately apply a Potion to them. I hope he caught a big one, Iron!

"I need two pokemon in particular ready if an Absol or something does show up, or if I need to rush in and help my cousin or friend out of a jam.  A simple 2v2 with no fainting sound good?  Items are okay, though I personally try to avoid using them unless I absolutely have to.  Never know what might happen, after all.  Saves a little money, too."

Nathan's choices are Kirlia and Swiftfire

Fisherman Matrim sends out GYARADOS! The angler immediately starts chortling. He stops when he sees the expression on Michael's face.

(This battle is going to have to wait until tomorrow. Bedtime for me now, though I want to get Nathan started on his battle too).

The Shield Maiden sends out Beldum and Klinklang!

"I hope you don't mind me training up my youngest Pokemon, shepherded by one of my star battlers."

Swiftfire (5) +5 = 10
Beldum: (5) +2 dex + 2 survival = 9
Kirlia: (2) +5 = 7
Klinklang: (3) + 4 = 7

Swiftfire (5) +5 = 10
Beldum: (5) +2 dex + 2 survival = 9
Kirlia: (2) +5 = 7
Klinklang: (3) + 4 = 7

VS The League's Shields

Ugh.  Steel types.  Of course.  Typical Shields.  Just love to tank everything they possibly can.  Beldum at least weren't overly threatening as long as they hadn't been taught how to use more advanced headbutting techniques.  That was easily the younger pokemon.  That Klinklang was much more likely to be a problem than Beldum was...

"I don't really have any stars since all my pokemon perform well in some role depending on the battle, but Kirlia here is my signature pokemon.  This oughta be an interesting battle.  Alright then, time to get started.  Kirlia, use Calm Mind, then proceed to use Draining Kiss, with Confusions thrown in if you're feeling chipper.  Swiftfire, same as usual, but with a twist!  Flame Charge, then Fire Spin, followed by Ember!  Burn that Klinklang down!"

Kirlia

Calm Mind
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize - 3 Actions = 5 D6
Effect: +1 Str and Def

Confusion (only if Kirlia is at full health)
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize - 4/5 Actions = 4/3 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 4* Str + 1 CP + 1 STAB - 1 Res = 8 D6 base - 1 Damage
Effect: 1 D6 Confusion chance

Draining Kiss
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Allure (leveling to 2 for 6 EXP) - 4/5 Actions = 4/3 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 4* Strength + 1 STAB - 1 Res = 7 D6 base - 1 Damage
Effect: Restore HP equal to half the damage dealt rounded down, minimum 1 as long as damage is dealt

Overall Orders: Calm Mind on turn 1, followed by Confusion at Full HP, Draining Kiss otherwise, 3 actions total.  Second turn on, 3 actions with the same conditions for Confusion VS Draining Kiss.  Unless attacking Beldum.  Then he'll use Draining Kiss even at Full HP.

Swiftfire

Flame Charge
Accuracy: 3 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Brawl - 3 Actions = 5 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 3 Strength + 1 STAB + 1 SE = 6 D6 Base + 1 Damage
Effect: +1 Dex

Fire Spin
Accuracy: 4* Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize - 4 Actions - 2 Acc = 3 D6

Damage: 2 Power + 3 Strength + 1 STAB + 1 SE = 6 D6 Base + 1 Damage
Effect: Blocks the target and does 2 D6 typeless damage at the end of each round for 4 rounds

Ember
Accuracy: 4* Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Canalize - 5 Actions = 4 D6
Damage: 2 Power + 3 Strength + 1 STAB + 1 SE = 6 D6 Base + 1 Damage
Effect: 1 D6 Burn 1 chance

Overall Orders: Turn 1, Flame Charge, Fire Spin, then Ember.  Afterwards, three Embers per turn.  Unless Fire Spin didn't land on turn 1.  Then Fire Spin will be used instead of Ember in the first two actions until it lands, with Ember always being the third action regardless.

For Both: Hold Back if the foe would be KOed by the attack.  Focus on Klinklang first, then Beldum.

Pause if either pokemon has a -2 Pain Penalization at the end of the round.  Or if either pokemon is paralyzed.

(Did that all make sense?  Hope that wasn't too complex...)

The moment the angler summoned a Zekrom damned GYARADOS onto the battle field, Ventus almost had a heart attack from the sheer terror he experienced at seeing it loom menacingly above him and his kick boxing shroom. Despite the shocking sight at seeing the draconic beast on the battlefield and the recent traumas he had endured just this morning/afternoon, he manages to wrangle the panicked and distressed emotional chaos the was brewing within him and put them under his complete and utter control. Thank Reshirim for his decades of dealing with the feelings of others and himself!

Still, the empath could detect the wrathful fury that lay within the terrible monster , and couldn't help but quietly say to the fisherman : "Oh my. Err...forgive me if this sound too paranoid or carvenous to you, good sir, but are ABSOLUTELY sure that your Gyarados will obey your orders and intent to its entirety? Before you say anything, I will have you know that I'm a Researcher that specialized in understanding, communicating, and analyzing the behavior and social/psychological patterns of Pokémon, and I focused and interact with particularly viscous, rebellious, and frankly deadly Disobediant ones for most of tenure at my university. As you also saw, I also have a wealth of personal experience directly handling Disobediant Pokémon myself, such as with my dear Arbok Apsis and a Dragon type I own, and know how challenging it can be to get them to listen to your orders 100% of the time."

"So when I ask about your mastery over Gyarados, I am not insulting or demeaning your ability or implying otherwise, but I just want to be ENTIRELY sure that neither my Pokémon or I will suffer you mighty Pokémon's unchecked and unfettered wrath on the battlefield. Gyaradoses are notorious for being nigh-uncontrollable in most circumstance, after all , and I've seen first hand what one can do when particularly enraged, so I want to be double sure that no one, especially yourself, are seriously harmed by them. Its better to be safe than sorry, thought at this point in time I'm rather uncertain that will remain the case for very long...."

Michael, though while naturely Intimidate by the fierce and viscous Atrocious Pokémon itself, refused to be completely cowed by them, and stepped forward to face them with all the determination and gusto he could muster! He will not let this Gyarados run rampant over him, his family, or his master without it going through him first, and they are NOT going to make this easy on them AT ALL. Bite me if you dare, monster! ORAH ORAH ORAH!!!

Order: Michael will use Absorb at least 3 times THIS round, but will substitute any draining moves to dodge Dragon Rage (If it has it), as well as attempt to constantly stay on the move to try and tire out the beast. Once all Michael's and Gyarados have preformed all their action, pause the fight for me to decide what to do next. Things have really escalated if you sent out a threat like THAT against me, huh? I love it! Bring it on!

A long sticky tongue descends from a tree and nabs Froakie. Up into the canopy he goes! If you squint, you can just make out a rare Kecleon up there.

Kecleon: (4) + 1 Dex + 5 survival = 10
Valder's Pokemon: (1)

Will Froakie battle to save himself? Or will he be the damsel in distress, to be saved by heroic Theo or Gastly?

(both seems like the best option)
"Froakie, try to Bubble your way out of kecleons grasp, it should at least slow it! Theo, get Kecleon kneeling with a steady Feint Attack!"
Valder's not worried, his Pokemon are strong enough to handle a little squirt like this one.

Bubble, 6pwr and 6acc.
Feint attack, 6pwr and 5acc. Razor Claw bonus.
