[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
This is it, then.  Terrible, terrible omen for Creshire or not, it was go time.  He could panic when he's not in harms way.  And Ventus better not interfere...

"Find the one with the scarred left eye and split it off from the rest, Kory! I'm not interested in any of those other ones!"

There it is...the Absol with the scar over its eye. He charges forth, leading the pack, coming straight for Nathan.

Ventus surges forward, trying to interfere. Apparently his priority is to engage the extra Absol, which is much more helpful than getting into the crowded battle. Nathan and Kory are moving faster than Ventus, though Raphael is there.

Nathan and Kory are going to roll Vitality + Survival to try to corral it.

Absol's roll: 4 Vit + 3 Survival
(1)(2)(6)(3)(5)(2)(1) The scarred Absol trips.
Nathan: (1)(3)(4)(4)(2) Nathan and Kory's practice pays off. Lucky Chant may be helping too. They successfully isolate the scarred Absol! It turns to face Nathan and Kirlia, leaping back and forth with frenetic energy. It paws the ground in agitation. Kirlia has his hands on his head, trying to organize all his thoughts and his/his trainer's conflicting emotions.

When a Pokemon is not seeking a trainer in particular, the rules are a little different. Ventus is being buffeted by a constant stream of random Pokemon as he runs along. He can attempt to struggle in one direction or another with Dexterity, and he can stay in the fight as limited by Vitality (1 point per encounter).

I'll let Raphael, as a fast flier, engage one of the pack Absol if you so order. Breloom and Ventus himself are at the mercy of the dice though. That's something Shiva would be able to see on TV.

I have a list of 19 Pokemon in the race, with the common ones toward the middle. I roll 2d10, producing a number between 2 and 20, with the highest and lowest numbers being rarer of course.

You can spend your Dexterity points to lower or raise the result by the number of points you spend.
There are also packs of crafty Meowth and befuddled Psyduck slinking and running along with all the bigger Pokemon! Meowth enjoys himself, confidently collecting fallen objects or just being daring. Psyduck clearly don't want to be here, but they're so clumsy they have little choice. None of them ever seem to get hurt, though, with pure dumb luck.

Ventus' encounter roll: (3)(10) = 13

Ventus encounters a Ponyta, which gets in his way along with a herd of common Running Pokemon. He's cut off from the pack of Absol, all but Raphael.
You can fight it (which takes mere moments, like all combats), you can try to run and get another encounter roll, and you can spend up to 2 dex to move elsewhere in the list.

"Short of it. I just have four pokemon, so a battle with four vs four would be cool."

Having none of the wild Ponyta's and the other wild Pokemon's attempt to get between him and the small horde of Absol, the frantic researcher attempt to dodge out of the way of the firey mare, with Michael prepared to put it asleep should it try to pursue and trample them! Rapidly raising his head up into the air to look his archangel dead in the eye, he barked out an order to him, unblocking his empathy so that his command reaches them loud and clear! "Raphael, do not worry about Michael or I! Find one of those Absol's and keep it tied up so that it can not interfere with Nathan's struggle! Use Yawn to put it asleep, then a barrage of Aura Spheres! I'll make my way towards the target you zero down and provide addition support, so do not fret my child! Will we not fail in our mission to safeguard Nathan anyway we can, and by Reshirim's and Zekrom's it shall be done!"

Order: Avoid the Ponyta Encounter if at all possible, and if it tries to attack us, its getting a faceful of Spore by Michael for its trouble, before they continue running. Since I'm trying to avoid this encounter instead of modifying it, can I spend my DEX points in this instant to increase the odds of escape instead? Raphael will target an Absol that tries to engage and/or harry Nathan, and try to lock it down with Yawn and triple Aura Sphere barrage, and will constantly be engaging it, no matter whatever circumstance. In addition, Ventus will try to work his way towards Raphael's battle if at all possible so that he and Michael can provide additional support. Any Pokémon that Ven encounters inbetween the rodevue will be handled as appropriate. Let the Zerg Rush start in earnest!

Moves

Spore (Conditional)
Accuracy: 8D6
Effect: Put Target to Sleep, which means easy escape!

Yawn
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (3) + Channel (3) - 4 Actions = 4D6 Dice
Effect: Target falls asleep after one Round

Aura Sphere(s)
Accuracy: 8D6 -5/6/7 Actions = 3/2/1 D6 Dice
Effect: Never Fails, so the worst that can happen is the last one being dropped.
Damage: STR (3 [Leveling it up for 20XP, since I'm not going to be bidding for the Scarred Absol!) + 3 + SE - Vitality (2) = 4D6 + 1 Damage

He problably use a fighting-type Pokemon. In this case I need a little help to resist that kind of attack.

"Go! Phantump!"

Then he brings his Ghost/Grass pokemon into the battle.

There seem to be no rules on escaping from battle, other than an arbitrary bonus for the Run Away ability. Hasn't come up until now. I will do opposed Dex checks.

Run run away
Ventus Dex: (2)(1)
Ponyta Dex: (3)(2)

Uh I guess Ponyta fails to pursue you. Rolling another encounter!
(7)(2) Ventus runs straight into a Tauros, which is no surprise since they make up the bulk of the field.

An Air of Unease (For this little talk Nathan's about to have with Absol):
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pjkoWh0YEZc

Wherever Ventus is, he's lost in the chaos now.  Just Nathan, Kirlia, and Absol now.  And Swiftfire, though she's skirting the edges currently rather than getting directly involved.  She doesn't like this feline with a horn...it was unnerving her...

Nathan stares right at Absol.  "A whole year of following me and Kirlia.  That's a lot of time for a wild Absol to dedicate to one person and his pokemon.  What the heck do you want with us?  A fight?  To help? I want answers, Absol.  You've kept me at my wit's end for far too long, and Kirlia and I are more than ready to take you on if we have to."

For his part, Kirlia's ready to use Draining Kiss 3 times if things start getting aggressive.  He might be in a tizzy from all the emotions flying around right now, but he's focused enough on the situation to do combat if it's required.

The meditator gestures to Medicham to take the field!

Initiatives:
Medicham: (4) + 3 Dex + 1 Survival = 8
Phantump: (5) +2 Dex + 1 survival = 8
Ties go to the higher Dex.

Medicham stands on the pinnacle of the waterfall. You clamber up there and send forth Phantump.
