[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole

Libraries, mystics, shrines, artifacts - there are many potential sources of true names, and it will depend on the spirit you're after.

Torch agrees to your conditions; he considers this a pretty friendly battle and not an overly serious one. "When I was doing my graduate work here, I studied mostly archaeology. But I also dabbled in things related to Pokemon myths - legendary Pokemon, powerful Pokemon artifacts, etc. Stars. Meteors. Energy."

Starmie: (6) + 3 Dex + 2 Survival = 11
Braixen: (4) +5 = 9
Nightshade: (2) +5 = 7
Elgyem: (2) + 5 = 7

"Not good. Fire/ground type...this will be tough." Then Heart look concerned to Viktor. "Okay you two. We must focus in finish that Numel the quick as possible! Viktor focus in avoid any Fire-type move Numel may use against you then Counter-Attack with a Feint attack, but it since it is not much quickly that Numel, use Feint attack before he attack, then dodge his fire move, then Counter-Attack with Feint attack! Koa, that Mudkip is almost defeated, so focus your attacks. Dual Chop until Mudkip is defeated! Then focus your efforts using Scratch two times against Numel. With our Combo, we have a Chance!"

When Nathan finally manages to calm Orthros down, he recalls everyone (except Kirlia), and heads to the training room while waiting for Shiva.  Kirlia, as usual, practices honing his psychic powers with the assistance of the pearl.  Orthros gets to stretch his legs however he sees fit.

And then there's Solomon.

Time to get started on some of that translation work.

He has the alphabet written out in both common and Modern Unown on one page of his journal, and the Old Unown symbols he's had the chance to record (the one on Solomon's crown and the ones in that message created by Hidden Power).

Solomon should be able to point to which Old Unown symbols match which common and Modern Unown letters fairly easily.  The trick was going to be gathering the rest of the Old Unown letters...and that's what Solomon's Hidden Power practice is going to be for.  He gets to practice using the move, Nathan get to record and hopefully match any new symbols that might pop up during the training.

Smokestack Round 2

Feint Attack
(3)(2)(3)(4)(5)
(1)(5) Numel takes 1 dmg 5/6hp

It's nice to see Axew obeying now! He has come to trust his trainer, who in the past has called the exact right attacks, and sometimes even let him have a little fun. So he rushes in!

Dual Chop
(6)(3)(4)(6)(1)
(6)(6)(2)(2)
Dmg:
(5)(4)(1)
(3)(6)(2) Mudkip faints.

Flame Burst
8 dice, -3 actions = 5d6
(1)(2)(5)(1)(1) The wave of fire is so close to missing that Viktor only has to move about half a foot to dodge. His carved mouth grins.

Flame Burst 2
(1)(5)(2)(6)
3 Str +3 power +1 stab -3 vit = 4d6+1
(2)(4)(1)(1) Viktor takes 1 dmg 5/6hp
Some of the lava gets on Koa too, but he resists it with his tough draconic skin.

Feint Attack 3
(3)(6)(3)(6)
(2)(4) Numel takes 1 dmg 4/6hp -1 pain.

Flame Burst 3
(5)(3) after pain
(6)(5)(1)(2) Viktor takes 3 dmg 2/6hp -2 pain

1 Xp to all.

Here's what Solomon points out, in order. Some of them he hesitates, and just points to a blank part of the page. Some of the symbols seem to have different meanings when paired with other symbols, basically.

S ?? E E R     ? O R ??      N I ??   S L A S ?

The symbol on his crown,
[Image: WSD6smf.jpg],
is K.

Loyalty: (6) vs (5)(5) Slowking decides to practice his Hidden Power on Kirlia and again on the wall of the Pokemon Center.

Hidden Power 1
(4)(3)(1)
Evasion: 9 dice -2 actions
(5)(3)(2)(6)(6)(5)(4)

Kirlia dodges, but the wall is not so nimble.

Hidden Power 2
(4)(4)

T O    G O    ? O R W A R D     K I R L I A     M U S T    ? I R S T    G O    B A ?

Bits of the wall go flying in all directions, leaving smudged (unreadable) outlines of the Old Unown. The brick dust settles on the floor.

Sure it's a friendly battle, as Shiva does only take certain selected battles 'seriously' (which ones, is my discretion) and sees Pokemon Battles more as a way to train than to determine who's stronger.

"Archaeology... How neat. Did you find a few fossils as well? And if so, is there a way to revive them into Pokemon here in Chreshire too? I enjoy Pokemon myths... *cough*" The mentioning of stars, meteors and energy reminds Shiva strongly on her astral rock on PC - but it's not like she's going to telll this young man about it. The thought of how he'd react at seeing such a Pokemon in her possession surely has something, though.

She also got the feeling that the Pokemon he owns really match to his occupation. There was something in the air... Something that couldn't be described with words, yet it is unmistakeably present. Was it this 'energy' Torch mentioned? Was it the eager of a Pokemon battle, doesn't matter how friendly or serious it was? Or the aftermaths of researching elusive things in the library? ...Whatever it was, Nightshade looks like she eagerly tried to gather this energy and store it in her smaller head.  She suceeded on this, if one could trust the faint green aura that began to surround her. On second glance, that aura was more shining in faint rainbow colours... Doing a sudden overly graceful backward flip and landing softly on between Braixen's ears (fox has already pulled and enlighted his basswood stick, but not less skillfully balanced the small cherrylike Pokemon on his head now), the fog finally lifted as a single leaf shining in exactly that rainbow coloured pattern was effectively flying in Starmy's direction.

Accuracy Magical Leaf 1: 3 Dext + 2 Survival + 2 Nature - 3 Actions = 4 d6
Accuracy Magical Leaf 2: 3 Dext + 2 Survival + 2 Nature - 4 Actions = 3 d6
Accuracy Magical Leaf 3: 3 Dext + 2 Survival + 2 Nature - 5 Actions = 2 d6
Damage: 2 Strength + 2 Power of the move +1 STAB = 5 d6 + 1 autodamage due to SE
Additional notes: This move hits even if the Accuracy Roll fails.

Meanwhile, the magical fox decided to follow his Master's unspoken orders and showed some of his fire power to Elgyem.

Accuracy Ember 1: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 3 Channel - 2 Actions = 6 d6
Accuracy Ember 2: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 3 Channel - 3 Actions = 5 d6
Damage: 2 Strength + 2 Power of the move +1 STAB + 1 due to Charcoal = 6 d6
Additional notes: 1 CD to burn the foe.

Using an action to evade a Hydro Pump is relative pointless as the dice pool will likely be too low.

Kirlia gives Solomon a bit of a glare.  Nathan waves it off, though.  Solomon seems to have decided to do that for a reason...

So, the target of Hidden Power seems to affect what the message says...

The first one was targeted at Daikatuna, so it talks about...Nathan's not entirely sure.  But it doesn't seem super duper important...

Why the symbol is on Solomon's crown is K, Nathan's not entirely sure either.

That third message, though...that was easy to translate the missing letters in that context.

To go forward, Kirlia must first go back.

Oof...from the sound of things...

Nathan would have to seriously consider what that really means.  There were only a few things it could...he'd consider it a little more tonight, after...*sigh*...he recalls everyone except Kirlia again.  Time to get this over with...he really hoped Shiva was more receptive to this than Ventus was...

Welp, to the lobby to wait for Shiva we go.  She'll find him nomming on that leftover lasagna, looking a little melancholy again.

"Well, at least it's not super effective that Luxio. We can deal with him later. First! We have a Numel to finish it! Caesar! Use Double Kick against Numel! Then use Horn Attack against Luxio and use Toxic Spikes! Koa! Use Double Chop against Numel if he not faint, but if he faint use against Luxio! Then finish him off with your best Scratch my strong dragon!"
