He sees some plant life of his own - a Carnivine whipping out of some fenwater, draped in algae! It definitely looks aggressive. Luckily Lucifer's high Insight spotted the maneating Pokemon before it managed to ambush him.
Not one to appreciate being interrupt in excavating his mount or being snuck on by a Pokémon with clearly diabolical intention for his wellbeing, Ventus snapped his head towards the flytrap and give it a cool look, before quickly issuing a command to Lucifer: "My brother, bombard this Carnivine with Gusts until its no longer able to make a snack of any of the group. I'll decide what to do with it once its been taken care of..."
Order: Lucifer is my Pokémon of choice in the engagement, and it will use Gust 3 times per round against Carnivine until its Fainted. Afterwards, Ventus is going to check to see if their is anything special about it first before deciding if he wants to catch it or finish it off to prevent it from ever posing a threat to the party. Time for another fight with a flytrap!

Hog Potato Swamp: Satorl Marsh - Xenoblade Chronicles
First they were trekking through the swamp...now Kirlia is angrier than Nathan's ever seen him before...
This day was off to a WONDERFUL start...
And now this frog is looking for a fight...great...well, Nathan's ticked off, but he's not angry enough to vent on this unassuming pokemon without prior warning. At least the frog doesn't seem to be super duper aggressive...

The Toxicroak relaxes a little at that, actually. But he makes the "Bring it" gesture, glad to welcome a sparring partner!

Hog Potato Carnivine Round 1
The Carnivine starts drooling a sweet-smelling liquid. Lucifer sniffs once and starts slowly coming in for a closer look, almost as if hypnotized. Then Carnivine spits the acid as a projectile!

(6)(4)(3)(4)(6)
4 Str + 3 power -5 vit = 2d6
(6)(6) Noibat takes 2 dmg 6/8hp -1 pain
Poison: (3)(2)(6) Noibat is poisoned

Lucifer's gust slices Carnivine a new mouth on the top of its head. More sap starts leaking out!
Sludge Bomb 3
(5)
(3)(6) Noibat takes 1 dmg 4/8hp -2 pain
Gust 3
(1) Carnivine loses a little of the algae off his head, but that's all!
Poison: (4)(5)(4) No damage.
Hog Potato Carnivine Round 2
Lucifer flies in a little too close. That sap still makes him a bit woozy.
Bite 1

(1)(5)
4 Str + 2 power -5 vit
(1)

(1)(4)
(1)(6)(2) Carnivine takes 2dmg 2/8hp -2 pain

Poison: (2)(5)(4) No damage.
It's dead even! The rattle doesn't seem to do anything in combat, but it does sound a bit like the marsh Bugs.
Ventus' endurance training has really paid off against this unexpected poison.

Oo, Mudkips love Ranc Berries.

Having exploited its weakness, you see Mudkip crawl out of the slime and start nomming on the berry.

Perfect.
"Alright then. You look tough, so I think you might be able to take on two opponents that have an advantage of some kind. Should definitely make for some good practice, right? I'll send 'em out one at a time to keep things fairer for ya. So, let's start with...a bird!"
Out comes Masq! When the Flash Ball is thrown, the image of him standing in the flower field is seen briefly before it fades...and it's revealed that Masq is standing in the exact same position his picture was centered at, in the exact same pose, flower and all.
"Ready, Toxicroak?"

Croaker: (5) + 4 Dex + 3 Survival = 12
Masq: (3) + 7 = 10
Toxicroak nods and closes its eyes, drawing its arms up to its sides. It gives a tiny bow like that.

Ventus' endurance training has really paid off against this unexpected poison.
Hog Potato Carnivine Round 3
If Ventus was already unamused with the Carnivine attempted ambush before hand, then Poisoning Lucifer and using its aromatic secretion to lure him to their doom caused him to become absolutely livid. Once their was a lull in the conflict, the empath swiftly return Lucifer to his Pokeball, and with a flick of his wrist sent out Apsis in their place! The regal snake, once she gained her bearings and assessed her opponent, felt the simmering wrath of master directed towards noxious flytrap, and let out a terrifying *Hissss!* at it in response!
"Apsis, it has come to my attention that this Grass type has pretensions of being a Poison one as well, given how readily it inflicted the status condition on our brother Lucifer. Since its so earnest in this desire of theirs, how about we give this Carnivine a proper demonstration of your type's specialty with your own venomous moves? Its only fair we so them our skills with Poison after they show their," he said, his expression both severe and serene as his stared the swamp plant with all the vitrol and contempt he could muster, a gesture which was shared by his sister as she rushed forward in a burst of speed to carry out his orders! Nobody invokes their master's fury and gets away with it, least of a wanna be poisoner like the weed!
Order: Return Lucifer to his Pokeball and summon Apsis in their place, and have use Poison Fang on it 3 times per round until its both fainted and/or Poisoned. Then she'll use Glare on it once its knocked and Ventus will attempt to capture it with one Pokeball. If that fails, I don't need to tell you what will be the final fate of Carnivine, now do I? Ven takes threats to him and his family VERY seriously....
Also, he's going to use an Antidote on Lucifer ASAP, so keep that in mind too!

Apsis: (3) +5 = 8, Carnivine has more dex
Hog Potato Carnivine Round 3
Sludge Bomb 1
(3)(5)(3)(6)
(4)(4) -1 Apsis takes 1 dmg 15/16hp
She's immune to that sticky smelly sap, it doesn't even attract her!
Poison Fang
7 dice, -3 actions = 4d6
(3)(2)(1)(4)
(6)(6)(1) Carnivine takes 3 dmg and faints
Poison: (3)(2)(2)(6)(3)(4)(1) And it's poisoned.
Glare
(3)(1)
Glare
(2)
Poison: (2)
Carnivine takes 1 lethal damage
There's time to use an Antidote right here.
Hog Potato Carnivine Round 4
Glare
(6)(4)(1) Carnivine is paralyzed, fainted, poisoned.
Pokeball: (6)(3)
Will: (3)
Carnivine was caught!
He's taking an automatic poison damage every round now. Four rounds to live.
His ability is levitate. He has 3 disobedience, 0 loyalty or happiness.
He has a pseudo-ability, which one might call Poisonify. All Normal type moves on his movelist are replaced with an appropriate Poison move for the same cost.
His 0Xp moves are Poison Sting and Smog. One of his 37Xp moves was Sludge Bomb.
Something like Sludge Wave OR Gunk Shot could go in Wring Out's slot, but he hasn't learned that yet.
Does that make sense?
He also knows Bite and Vine Whip in addition to Poison Sting, Smog, and Sludge Bomb.
Apsis and Lucifer gain 2XP each, and Ventus gains 3XP.
