If you take a lesson, I will say yes it does cost an encounter.

(Well, that is what I wanted to do, so I don't mind spending an Encounter in this instance. Ven knows how to sing, but needs to learn how to play an instrument to get a true combo going!)

Hm, you can probably find a 1v1 for such a low sum.

You run into Soor, of Soor's Nature Art. He's a middle aged man, dressed quite differently from everyone in this village. He looks like a tourist, through and through, though he's covered in mud and carries a long knife at his side. Currently, he's using it to carve posts for a palisade around his new business.

"Oh, what a beautiful Rapidash! Is it one of Mallorn's? Can I make you a wager? Let me battle that Rapidash. If I win, Rapidash makes a trip from Corsage Port to Arrowroot Village for me when my shop opens in May. If you win, I'll give you $300 right now and a $700 mail-in gift certificate to my Nature Art shop."

Waxworker Round 1

Small math correction: This isn't a supereffective move, so it's 8d6, not 7d6+1.
Water Pulse 1
(4)(6)(5)(3)(1)
(5)(4)(2)(6)(4)(2) Beedrill takes 4 dmg 3/7hp -2 pain

Beedrill swoops in with his deadly twin drills

Twinneedle 1&2
3 Dex + 1 Fight + 3 Canalize -2 actions -2 pain= 3d6/2d6
(6)(4)(6)
(3)(3)
4 Str + 1 power + 2 swarm -3 vit = 4d6
(4)(4)(1)(1) Clauncher takes 1 dmg 5/6hp
Poison: (5)(4)

Water Pulse 2
(5)(6)(5)(6) A direct, perfect hit.
(6)(2)(2)(6)(2)(4) Beedrill faints.

If you can defeat Hippopotas without a scratch on either of your Pokemon, I'll give back the Apricorn and you can ask a favor of me. But if Hippopotas lays a hand on your Pokemon (Just 1 HP to either), you have to go on a date with me to get the Apricorn back. You'll get the $600 either way. What do you say, pretty lady?"

(My wager where originally 800$, not 600$.)

Shiva only kept glaring. Apsis would be proud of that if she'd get a chance to see that... For quite a while, she was practically tearing her foe appart with just her stare, right after freezing him to a block of ice. She didn't even looked away as she recalled her dearest fluffball - internally, she was rather impressed that her Pokemon avenged her and indeed put incredible power into her energy-draining...almost a little too much, but actually Shiva wouldn't care if it'd 'coincidently' knock that Crawdaunt out. Would only teach it's owner more respect.

Braixen gave a silent 'huff' at the sight that that small firely pig surrendered to him and his battlepartner. The latter fell, but Braixen felt all ready to avenge her - alongside the blue mouse, who gave the fierly fox an agreeing nod before taking a battleready posture, wagging her tail a little to emit a calming/intimidating? jingle of the Soothe Bell that was attatched there. It looked rather neat for Shiva to see her blue mouse so eager to fight. Braixen began to snarl at the oppnent's Hippopotas.

The message was rather clear - Shiva was angered, her Pokemon mirrored that and where more than ready to protect their Master. If anyone wants to get her, they'd have to get past them first.

Her voice was practically an Icy Wind. He having called her 'pretty' didn't help at all. "You're quite a smart-one to ask for such a thing. Aren't you, huh? However, you can go and choke on quicksand and Deyo Powder, it's way more likely that I run into a shiny Victini later this day than me agreeing to your madman's conditions. I'd rather FORFEIT that battle that even THINKING about EVER going out with you!" Next, she looked away way to obviously, but she kept her gaze glare fixated on him. "You're also OUT OF LUCK, as I'm actually already taken and faithful. Now, you EITHER give me the money and the Apricorn, OR I'll get him and his Arbok will take care of you UNTIL YOU DO."
(That's actually a bluff, but doesn't matter~ That'd be quite a cool situation to gain +1 Intimidate, but I'll save XP.)

This is awesome.

Intimidate: 2 Fight + 0 Intimidate +1 for having combat advantage
(2)(1)(4)

He backs down! In fact, he half stands behind Exeggutor. "Alright, alright, no need to get uppity. I wasn't compelling you to accept what I thought a rather generous offer. Here." He gives the Apricorn and the money to Exeggutor, who ambles over to Shiva and passes it along with a bow.

"Since you didn't want to try to earn a favor, I'll be off then. See you never."

Shiva gains 12 Xp for her Pokemon, and gains 7 for herself, including a soft heroism.

During Shiva rather passonate exchange, Ventus experienced the same icy fury and RAGE as he went to the Pokémon Center to heal Lucifer and the urge to throattle someone increasing exponentially, nearly causing him to tumble over in surprise. 'Ok, what caused THAT spike in my emotional state? First during my battle with Mack, and now while I'm seeking treatment for my brother? Hmm....perhaps I need to decompress from my tumultchous night and morning fretting over Nathan, and suffering his discontent attitude, if that is the source of these abnormalities,' the empath though, before shaking his head to clear away those intrusive emotions and continue to the Pokémon Center to heal up Lucifer, before making his way to the Bonefire with Shamalen in hand! Shiva said this place was a festive place filled with many talented singers and enticing scents, so it SHOULD be a perfect place to relax, and perhaps gain some experience in playing his instrument!

Nathan actually laughs at that first question.

"Hahahahaha.  No, she's a Warren original and raised."

Hmmm...he must REALLY want to battle Swiftfire if he's raising the stakes...Nathan needs to teach Swiftfire Inferno sooner rather than later, though...

"Alright, you're on.  Swiftfire, ready to have a little fun trying out your new techniques?"

Braixen's snarl only increased as that Exeggutor came closer, but Shiva rather quickly motioned him to stop, as there's nothing to fear from that palmtree. He took a look at his Master, then at the Exeggutor, then...slowly stepping aside to let it pass.

Exeggutor received an appreciating pat from her after she accepted both her Apricorn and money from it, her expression lighted up as well. Hah! That'll teach people to pick up on her. As for...what was he called again? Ah, Sinkhole... Well, NOW he received a faint smile from her, and a reply in a sing-sang voice. "I'm not really interested in a favour. Well, goodbye then~ Braixen, Marill, we'll get going."

As for the pink Apricorn... Now that she got it back, there was no point to hold it back from its rightful owner anymore, so somewhere along the way, she called Kyuu out of his Pokeball, and was quick to pick him up as soon as he was summoned. He was pained, tired and needed a good brush through his fur alongside medical care, all things Shiva will gladly provide later. But first, he'd receive something different - a very careful yet appreciating hug and smile, alongside... "You did VERY well there, dear one. No doubt there are psychic powers in you that are beyond what one would imagine resting in you, I'll be there to help you channel them into the right direction. You're missing something though, aren't you? I've kept my word, so here you have your pink Nut back. Take good care of it, and enjoy the comfort of the healing maschine in the Pokemon Center. I'll pick you up later."

Once Cottonee, Kyuu and Marill where carefully handed to Nurse Joy, Shiva once again stepped outside of the Pokemon Center, Braixen still beside her. Meanwhile, he has withdrawn his basswood stick, and was silently asking his Master what they'll do now. "Now? Oh, now... Well, now we'll pay the bonfire another visit. Yes, the one we where at yesterday! Let us enjoy some peace there after this run-in we just had."

Coincidence that along the way she ran into Ventus, and her first thought was to recall Braixen... But... "No, dear one, stay outside of your Pokeball please. Just...ignore him. I have a task for you at the bonfire, one that you cannot fulfill when you're not present. Stay close to me instead, please." With that hopefully taken care, she stepped beside Ven, carefully entagling one oh her arms around his, giving him a faint smile for having remembered her plea to meet up at or on the way to the bonfire.

(I'm not quite sure whether Ven wants to pick up on the aftermaths present in Shiva's pool of emotion.)

Hmmmm...well, there goes Fire moves as an option...and Megahorn...still one more move in Swiftfire's new arsenal though...and oof, this brings back memories...

"Swiftfire, let's try out one of your new moves.  Poison Jab, three times."

Simple orders, though Nathan's a bit distracted now...

Poison Jab x3! (and this is why Swiftfire is Nathan's anti-fairy pokemon)
Accuracy: 4 Dex + 3 Fight + 2 Brawl - 3/4/5 Actions = 6/5/4 D6
Damage: 3 Power + 3 Strength = 6 D6 base
Effect: Poison (3)
