[Game] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure: Celadon City Vandel

'Yeah, they're my cousins.  There is one problem, though...Clair's going to be paying Celadon a visit tomorrow, as I'm sure you've heard already.  She'll be...less than pleased, to put it simply.'

'Ummmm, no sir, this is the first time I've heard about this, which is strange because Samael usually keeps me updated on this sort of stuff.....oops, sorry, getting off track here! ........Oh. It...it sounds like she isn't paying you a friendly visit, is she? ...If you don't mind me asking, why is she....'less than pleased'? Do you think she is going to be a threat to your safety, sir? Or is it something else entirely?'

'Huh.  You'd think an irate, recently appointed gym leader would be bigger news...guess Samael doesn't want word getting out.'

'Well, to keep it simple, I'm basically the black sheep in the family.  Clair's not a big fan of that. Guessing your standing with your family is kinda similar?'

'If your cousin's visit to Celadon is as 'pleasent' as you implied it to be, Samael might have kept quiet to ensure that the public doesn't panic over this, or worse, swarm Clair and overload her to the point of violence. I've been on cases where temperamental people have been pushed over the edge, and the result......I've seen murder scene cleaner than those messes, to be frank. Nasty and yucky.....'

Your connection with Angelica goes dead silent as you inquired about her family, and for a minute you'd though she ignored the question somehow when she finally 'spoke' up in an hesitate, nervous tone.

'......Sorta. Its....complicated. You....you wouldn't understand unless I gave you the full story, so let me....explain.'

'My mother......she was what you called a 'yandere' , sir. I'm not sure whether or not you've heard of the term, but basically its a person that is typically violently and psychocotically in love with their person of interest, and often takes any perceived threat to her relationship with her love interest rather.....poorly. From what she's told me, it apparently runs in the family, and my lack of that.....trait is what sets me apparent from my kin.....'

I've gathered from her that she kidnapped my father from Jhoto at a relatively young age, and......conditioned him to feel the same way about her over their relationship. Managed to get their identities changed so that they could live in seclusion without having the Police or investigator tracking them down or sending up any flag. I was their first and only child, as far as I know, and I thought my family was perfectly normal, if a bit outlandish and silly. .......Learned that it wasn't when my dad tried to sneak off with me after he after he had....'A change of heart, honey. I want what is best for you, so I have to take you away from here. Far her. Far away from both, if my wish for you will come true.' , if...if I remember what he said correctly. He got caught by mom.

'......He died. Mom ended up going on the lamb with me for several months, until she was finally captured here in Celadon. Taught me everything about my family, about their.....traditions and practices, so that 'I'd know my 'legacy' and how to take care of my lover when the time comes' . Her....her words, not mine. I....I...didn't like what I heard. I.....I....didn't want to grow up to be...to be like.....like.....like THAT. I didn't want to become crazy, and perpetuate the cycle of suffering, of twisted love that my mom, her mom, their mom....all of them inflicted on their 'loves'.... '

'So, when I got out of foster care, I decided I would become a Police Officer, and do my very best to find a different way than the one my mom left me. I would become a defender of the weak, an agent of justice and the law, and just be kind and caring help towards others that need it. I would defy my 'legacy' , and maybe....maybe atone for my family's sins in the process.'

'.....I've visited my mom once, and told her of my job, my duties, and of my plans to sunder and bury my family's crazed history and traditions. I You know what she said? 'Whatever you do with you life,  you will always be my little angel, the one I cherish above all else. I'm so proud of you, Angelica, and nothing you do will ever change how I feel about you. Live free, and have a wonderful life, and know that I-I-I will al-always love you.'

'..............I.....I....haven't seen her since.'

'..............................................I'm *Sniff* ....I'm....s-s-sorry about this, s-s-sir. I.....*Sniffle* talking about mom....al-always makes m-me emotional. S-s-sorry.........'

She goes quiet once more.

That doesn't mean your keen hearing didn't pick up she was trying to conceal her crying from you and everyone else, though.

.......

'...it'll be okay, Angelica.  I think you're doing a good job so far.  Though I do have to say it's downright...disturbing how similar that is to what happened with Romeo and Juliet...minus the crazy psychic brainwashing, though, at least...'

...

'Well, it's only fair I tell you a little more about myself, I guess...Clair's out to bring me back to Blackthorn.  No blood to be spilled.  Not here, anyways.  She's unlikely to care how much of a ruckus she causes once she finds me, though.  It's not if, it's when.  Anyone bothers her, she'll probably just sic one of her Dragonair on them.'

...

'...I was banished from Blackthorn a few years ago.  Didn't fit the Elders' mold quite right, evolved my Seadra without their explicit permission...nearly got my dad killed in the process when Kingdra went on a rampage that nearly destroyed half of the city.  Wasn't pretty.  I've improved as a Dragon Tamer since then, but now the Elders are out to pass final judgement.  Don't plan to give them the opportunity, but...sending my cousin to bring me in...that's low, even if she is probably more than happy to comply...'

'...my sources tell me she's supposed to arrive tomorrow afternoon.  I'll probably need your help with making sure she doesn't cause any unnecessary trouble.'

'.....T-t-thank you for your kind words, sir. M-makes me glad to know that-that I'm doing a good job protecting Celadon City, despite all the trouble that has been cropping up this Flower Festival. First Romeo and Juliet, then that Vampire, and now Clair.....if it weren't for your invaluable assistance, I don't think I could have handled all this mounting pressure.....'

Angelica goes silent for a moment yet again, but this time you feel its due to her trying to will away her current state of distress so that she speak clearly and without worrying you. This gave you the opportunity to give the abridged version of the events surround your banishment from Blackthorn to the chief inspector without interruption, and hopefully gave her all the time needed to fully calm down. That is, if this story doesn't cause any adverse emotional reaction in her, of course.

'.......Oh my. That's....that's AWFUL  to hear sir! I understand that Blackthorn handles laws and rulings differently that most other cities, but banishing a minor for simple theft and losing control of their Pokémon is much to extreme, especially since you are such a wonderful, magnificent person! They could have taken away your Pokémon and have you doing community service and/or serving time instead, but they didn't and went way, way too far with their judgement just because you went against their expectations! Now....now they even sending your own family to hunt you down, even after taking almost everything from you.......that too much. FAR TOO MUCH!'

You could feel the surge of hurt, anger and resentment from your servent on behalf of your grievances and plight caused by the Elders, as well as a burning desire to avenge and protect you from further loses being inflicted upon you by those cranky, senile old men!

'The Blackthorn Elders have gone past the point of reasonable judgement AND well out of their jurisdiction by sending your their city's Gym Leader and your cousin to bring you in for trail for crimes they already over punished you for. I'll see to it that when I return to the Police Station I'll inform my squad of the situation, and put them on alert to stop Clair if she get out of hand and stop her from detaining a lawful citizen of Celadon City. I'll also try to get Officer Samael to speak with Erika and ask her to intervene on your behalf to prevent hostilities from escalating, but given Clair's reputation for being.....explosively tempered, she might choose to avoid confrontation entirely. Do I have your permission to enact these plans, sir?'

'...I appreciate the offer, Angelica, but that'll likely only make the situation worse, particularly since Samael was trying to keep her arrival quiet.  And Clair will probably crush anyone who dares try to intervene.  She's loaded up with everything she can that might help her defeat me at any cost from what I've heard.  Full Restores, Max Revives, various methods to stop my usual battle strategies, a very powerful, ancient relic of Blackthorn's that even Legendaries fear...she means business.'

'Our best bet would probably be to try and catch her off guard instead.  I need to talk to her, and that'll be difficult if I'm staring her down in the middle of a battle, or have to worry about her changing her mind and unleashing her pokemon or that weapon on me at a moment's notice.  Not likely to improve my image in her eyes, but what other choice is there?  And if it does come to battle...I can't fight fairly if I hope to win, which certainly won't improve her mood any...'

'I'll also be talking with Erika tomorrow at the earliest opportunity, so if I have great need to appeal to her for aid, I can.  I've known Clair's been coming for a couple days now, and I've been trying to figure out how best to handle this without causing too much trouble for the festival...'

'......Alright sir. Mmm....I don't like the thought of you facing off against Clair alone, but If my and the Police's assistance would only hinder your efforts against her, or Arceas forbid provoke her to seriously harm you and others, then I'll refrain from interfering in your battle, and try to prevent my officers from getting involved as well. The last thing we need is the Gym Leader and her Dragons rampaging in the middle of the Flower Festival, inflicting untold devestation throughout the city and....and whoever happens to get caught in the crossfire....'

Your rebuttual to her plan of action made Angelica somewhat despondent, as leaving you to suffer relatively unassisted your cousin's draconic wrath rubbed her sense of duty towards you/servitude/desire to keep you safe entirely the wrong way. Of course she understood your reasoning why you denied the help, and even agree with it on some level, but it doesn't change her discomfort at the fact that doing relatively nothing was the best way to improve your odds against your cousin.

The knowledge that you had quick and convenient access to the Prim Princess of Celadon support helped ease this feeling somewhat, but the chief inspector still felt like she was failing you on some level.....

'*Mental Sighing* Still, I wish their was some way I can help, sir.......oh! Hmm.....would that really work......yes, she's know for being quite prideful and arrogant, so maybe......maybe that could work..... Sir, I think I've come up with an idea that could help you settle things peacefully with your cousin! Err....or at least temper her reactions enough so that she doesn't resort to violence in the middle of the Festival? Permission to speak freely about this, sir?'

......Which is why she used that discontent to brainstorm an idea to possibly help you out! Of course, you don't have to hear her out if you have a good enough idea/plan on to how to handle your extremely irate cousin, and/or burden them with more guilt/sadness if you end up rejecting another of their ideas. Nothing venture, nothing gained, yes, but sometimes its just not worth the trip in the first place, you know?

What's it going to be?

'Umm, well.....Clair's known for being EXTREMELY prideful and egotistical, right? At least, that's what the rumor mills have been saying, and the personal accounts of Celadon City trainer that fought against her seem to align with them....I'm getting off track, sorry about that! Anyway, since she thinks so highly of herself and her abilities, why not use that against her? By using her those qualities against her, you could possibly issue a formal challenge against her with stipulation that limit the worst of what she could do to you, or demand that she hear of you grudge towards the Elders and the reasons behind them in private! '

'For example, you could say, 'On your honor and title as the esteamed Gym Leader of Blackthorn City, I demand a fair fight to settle any greviances between us!' or 'As Gym Leader of Blackthorn, I wish to speak with you in confidence on matters concerning my departure from the city, and the consequences it had for me! ' Either way, that would force her to comply to your requests to preserve her dignity towards her 'lesser', or suffer disgrace and humiliation by appearing unreasonable, overly hostile, and just being unjustifiably rude. Hmm.....you could also request that she fight you in a more secluded area in order to minimize backlash and fallout of their battle, with the logic that doing otherwise would end up disrupting the Flower Festival and reflect poorly on her character and Blackthorn's as a whole.'

'That's all I could think up of for now, so what do you think of those ideas, sir?'

'Heh.    Funny.  Not too far from the ideas I've had so far, actually.  I know her better than most, obviously.  Despite how...irritable she can be, she values the traditions and image of Blackthorn very highly.  In theory she should take her duties as a Gym Leader seriously as well.  She isn't just representing Blackthorn now that she's a full fledged Gym Leader.  And I have a few choice topics in mind to discuss with her.  Namely, some of the things I've accomplished lately, and the fact that this isn't the first time the Elders would have made a mistake...'

'...plus, there's a few ways to easily exploit that potential vulnerability that I can think of...good to know we're thinking along similar tracks here.'
