Tbh , I'm as shocked as you were about Explosion almost doing full damage to Arial, since I guess it would only do average damage to his whole party (4-6) and teach him to be more cautious/careful about what orders you do and do not issue. Oy vie....and now THEY have come back and is being....nebulous. Blegh....

If there's anything these dice have been trying to tell us this entire time, it's probably to not count on the average.
However...I DID notice that you didn't account for Aftermath's bonus damage effect for that second Fire Blast. If it's applicable and ALL three dice do damage, then Explosion doesn't happen AT ALL because Muk is KOed.
Slim odds, but better than nothing, right?

WAIT! I just had another thought! Arial can't possibly be killed by that Explosion! Muk's been inflicted with Burn 3, so it has a -3 Strength Penalty, meaning Explosion only has 7 D6 in its damage pool!
Arial is NOT dead.
But he IS heavily wounded and stuck with three lethally damaged pokemon.
