Yes, but with the same analogy, you can breed a dog and name it Brownie, then raise it to 8 year-old. Afterwards, you suddenly feel the urge to change its name to Fluffy.
You go to an certified old man that says, "From now on, your name is Fluffy!". Your dog obeyed him and not get confused.
Either way, understand your point. I suggested this only for convenience sake.

Just because it's not in the base game doesn't mean it shouldn't be in Uranium. I'm in favor of this suggestion.

They speak the truth! Always strive to improve on the past, and while changing nicknames is such a small improvement, it is still one non-of-the-less.

Correct and agreed. The dog would also miss its nice old name. :C

Or you could call the dog Fluffy Brownie, and have it both ways. Just have the original name listed somewhere on the Pokémon profile, then have the new owner's name be the one that is displayed in battle/menu.

Ultimately it's more quality of life than anything, there's honestly no reason that I can see beyond "tradition" for not having the ability to change a traded Pokemon's nickname.
The dog analogy doesn't really work, since you can have a Pokemon named Brownie for 90 levels and if you're the OT you can still change it to Fluffy if you want.

Okay, I see the example with the dog doesn't seem to work. Alright, no problem... please do as you please, I don't mind.
Well, I dunno... maybe I just like to see that a traded Pokemon I got has a nice nickname, or I enjoy asking the person who will trade it to nickname it for me if I come up with a name suggestion, that's probably why I somehow dislike this option and see no need in changing it.
A Pokemon with a neat nickname is an indicator that the OT appreciated that particular Pokemon. at least that's what I think, you can agree or not.
Oh, and trading a Pokemon with an offensive/inappropiate name on purpose is simply intellectually undemanding.

I don't even understand why people have to give their Pokemon nicknames. -_-

Distinguish pokemons is at least one reason. If a player has more or a lot pokemons of a specie, with nicknames and table with filters (like excel one) is relatively easy to find specific pokemon, with specific characteristics. (Filter in table and search in boxes via nicknames - no need to open summary and check characteristics again, again, again... .)
---------
I am adding to you (plur.), the possibility of renaming traded pokemons would be fine.
It will make distinguishing traded pokemons easier too.

There's two sides to this argument as far as I can see,
On the one hand, you have the original trainer who named the pokemon, maybe not changing the name would almost act as a respect thing, most of these pokemon were personally bred by their trainers and sent on their way to help other trainers who needed them more than their breeders did. but there are trainers who will offer to name a poke for you before they're traded which I think is neat.
On the other, naming Pokemon for me at least, has been to further personalize my adventure. I give my pokemon nicknames in order to feel more connected to my team, a lot of the Pokemon I use started with me in Moki town, fought in most gym battles, grew and became stronger alongside me, travelled with me across the region, watched that region fall to the strife of Nuclear Fallout and then helped me save the world.
