[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole

Woobat Duo Round 1

The bats go swooping around Valder's head, so he sends out his Pokemon to deal with this annoyance.

Powder Snow 1
7 dice -3 actions =4d6
(4)(4)(4)(6)
5 Str +2 power +1 stab -2 vit = 6d6+1
(5)(6)(1)(4)(2)(2) Woobats take 4 dmg 2/6hp -2 pain
(5)

Odor Sleuth 1
3 Dex + 3 survival+3 alert -3 actions -2 pain = 4d6

6 dice -2 actions = 4d6
(4)(4)(5)(6) Critical hit.
Woobat A faints.

Air Cutter 1
3 Dex + 2 Fight + 2 -2 pain -3 actions = 2d6

(5)(3)(4)(6)(6)(2) Woobat B faints

Theo and Mamo and Valder gain 3 XP each.

These aren't really designed to deal damage, but they do hurt and Kingdra has to be recalled.

When Kingdra is recalled, Chandelure retreats back toward the Candelabra.

Chandelure Round 2

Watching as his general plan of 'subduing Chandelure with Ao Guang while bonding with them' go up in metaphorical smoke as they decide to beat the heat instead of their opponent, Ventus bites back a curse as he recalls them to their Pokeball, before going sprinting off after the Chandelure, Hanael's Pokeball already in hand and ready to be tossed out in middle of the candle stick spirit's path, cutting it off and forcing them to face him! He was NOT going to leave a dangerous Pokémon like that roam around if he could help it, nor lose the opportunity to add another bartering chip for future trades and deals!

Order: Pursue Chandlelure and summon Hanael either in such a way that it cuts off their path, or forces them to fight Ventus/Them instead. Regardless of Initiative, Amnesia will be used as her first move, follow by Magnetude twice (Once if the first one looks like it will collapse the chamber, in which case she'll stick to Striking for her Third hit). Not letting them get away on MY watch!!!

Nathan is a bit ahead of the group, leading the way. Suddenly a Furret leaps overhead and drops a shard of pale grey stone, the same size as the Clamperl Pearl but not uniform in shape. Instead, it looks like it was originally a piece of a larger marble slab, which was then casually smoothed. It's also longer than it is wide. When Nathan picks it up, all his arm hairs stand on end.

Furret scrambles up into a tunnel overhead.

Lore: (3)(5)(6) (4)(5)(1) (1)(4)(2)

On the upper knob of the shard is a symbol of four eyes, two large and two small. Nathan knows this is a pagan symbol for knowledge, especially knowledge beyond death. The pagan Reaper is known to fill his domain with spider Pokemon.

This religion is no longer popular or practiced and was always very niche.

It looks like this is a piece of a grave marker. Some were indeed installed within Mt Sentry to ward against their spirits ever coming back, since Mt. Sentry is a place of sentinels.

Ventus finds that Chandelure has nowhere to go, unless it takes advantage of its ghostly powers. Which wouldn't be blocked by Haneal anyway!

This is a sturdy chamber and only a magnitude 6 will threaten it.

Haneal: (6) Going first.

Amnesia 1
3 dex + 3 survival +0 alert -3 actions = 3d6
(4)(3)(6)

The blue flames fade. Chandelure begins fading with them.

Memento 1
(4)(5)(2)(6)(4)
Chandelure faints.
Ventus gets -2 in every stat. His mental defenses are left battered and shredded. He hisses as he sees a wave of hopeless events - but when he comes back to himself he realizes in what feels like sudden insight that none of them are from HIS past! And Reshiram knows, Ventus has enough horrible thoughts in his past to haunt his mind and soul for eternity, to bring him to his knees in grief.

Instead, he sees a first person view of someone holding a stick and swatting at a Doublade, who parries gently.
He sees tears staining fresh earth before a fuzzy gravestone. The year on it: 1466.
He sees a trio of Sableye, chewing on a jeweled necklace, fighting over it. Tearing it in their haste to devour.
He sees an endless maze of small, claustrophobic tunnels, and no hope of ever seeing the light again.

Simple Haneal just stares at Ventus, forgetting his commands.

Ventus will definitely need a moment to recover. You can throw Pokeballs at Chandelure with a Will roll, no penalties to it. (That will include debuffing it from Apsis.)

*shudder*

...though Nathan can't help but wonder where this piece of rubble came from...

...

...judging by how smooth it is, and the lack of any jagged edges...he wasn't going to be finding that out any time soon.

Well, he'd hold on to it for now.  Maybe do a little more research into it later (though if he can make out any text on it, he'll try and read what it says now).  Maybe even see how Grid reacts to it, since he's a spider pokemon.

Hmmm...

"Hey Valder, come here for a sec.  I want to see how Haunter reacts to this piece of a gravestone."

Nathan doesn't really pay too much attention to the two fainted bat pokemon for the time being.  Bats are quite the nuisance in caves, after all.  Nathan's glad Valder kept them from being a nuisance to him, in fact.  Wouldn't have been fun trying to deal with both them and the stone that almost fell on top of him, after all.

Nathan's also keeping an eye on Ralts and Solomon to see how they reacted to the stone too.  Starmie's also out and providing illumination, though the only real reaction he'd be able to gauge from Starmie is if it were to back away from the stone itself.

As Heart is passing the tunnel to the Gem Mine, he spots a glittering piece of red! Since his mind is already on gems, and even red gems, he immediately investigates.

Yep, it turns out to be an uncut garnet! It's rather small, and not the most valuable gem, but it is worth more because it has SABLEYE bite marks in it!

In its current form you could sell it for $3900. With 5 ranks in craft, you could triple that by cutting it nicely in such a way that will show off the bite marks.

Grid likes it. He starts cluttering it with tiny golden threads.

Haunter likes it. He snatches it away from Nathan and gives Nathan a Lick.
(2)(2)(2) Nathan is not paralyzed, but definitely distracted.
Haunter holds the shard up to the side of his head and pretends it's a telephone. Then he throws back his head and swallows it, and it appears back in Nathan's hand.

Starmie doesn't seem to care either way, though it is probably a bit nervous with a ghost nearby.
Ralts feels minor sadness in relation to the stone, though you don't think this is his personal emotion, but rather something he's picking up.
Solomon reacts more to Haunter than to the stone. It's not ancient enough to pique his interest; however, his crown is glowing very very faintly.

(Well, Nathan doesn't have Grid right now, but I'll keep that in mind for when Nathan can next pull him out of the PC!)

...that's the second pokemon that's decided to lick him...*shudder*...

Well, predictably, ghosts seem to like it in general, it seems...whether they actually commune with the spirits associated with them is another matter, one that probably doesn't have any solid answers...

...Solomon's crown glowing though...hmmm...

Nathan takes another look at the stone.  Is there any text on it that he can read?

Nope. It looks like the front portion was once flat and if you had another few inches, you'd probably have some text.

Datewise, this is probably from around Sarimanok's time, and definitely no later than Bridge's time. But the only manmade designs on this shard are the four clustered eyes.

Hmmm...so this is just the top of the gravestone...

Well, packed away in the bag it goes for later examination.  Nathan will definitely be keeping an eye out for any gravestones while in Mt. Sentry.  (probably none nearby, right?)
