You have to wait for a while until Shiva can pick Ventus up, Windos, as 1. the battle 'gaint Heart will take a while and it's only the first Encounter of my Day. I'll try to not stretch it unnecessarily, but please be patient! On the other hand you said you'd need to study for exams, so it's fine...?

That's the kind of input concerning battles of mine that I'd like to have discussed and clarifyied via PrivateMessageing instead of openly in the MetaThread, please. No, from what I've read in the move description, Protect worked just like GM stated, I don't see any set damage in BubbleBeam.

I need to respectfully disagree on that, Phantom.  This won't affect just this battle.  Calam knows Detect if I ever happen to decide to use it, and Spirit uses Protect frequently.  The book doesn't do a good job of defining 'set damage'.  The mechanics of Protect and Detect need some clarification, and it affects everyone who uses the move or will be facing users of it in the future.

As the gimmick of the two moves is complete protection for the user (no other shield moves include set damage protection in their descriptions, even if they'd nullify Dragon Rage and such in the games), it makes sense to me that 'set damage' could include SE damage.  I think the intended interpretation of the term is any damage that doesn't have to be rolled for.  The obvious application is Dragon Rage and similar, but you don't roll for weakness damage either.  And it's especially important to clarify this for Perceval because if it nulls weakness damage temporarily, that could prevent 2 extra damage if he would have been hit by a ground or fighting move.

If the damage pool is reduced to zero, Protect will nullify SE damage as well, as if the move had failed. But my common sense ruling is that if any amount of water gets through the shield, it will be super effective.

It'd also be weird to interpret SE damage as set damage, because you can have negative amounts of it. That just feels weird to me.

Anyway, it's good to hash this precedent out!

I didn't necessarily like selling it off either, but it was borderline required to in order for vengeance on Chandelure to be enact in as safe of a manner as possible. As for cash, I'll have to drum some up really quickly, but I can still split the cost of that Luvdisc without going under $1000 Poke.

I'm fine with waiting, especially since you are correct that I DO have to study for several exams, so no rush~

Omph, Gustav took a serious betting right there! Better switch him out for later until the Sun starts to dim or you have no choice, as that way Water Pulse/Bubble Beam will do SE damage to Braixan once it fades! That, and Cottenee could always make an appearance if this is a full 6V6 doubles, so prepare accordingly!
