[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
Malphena can't really sense intentions, only level of fear. You have no idea if she can read your spiritual aura.

Dilapidated Shack

The inside of the shack somewhat matches the outside. There are loose boards, protruding nail-heads, and peeling paint everywhere. However, it is clean as a whistle and smells quite pleasant. The reason for this is quickly revealed: a Minccino rides on a Chikorita, and together they rearrange the many many shelves, bring up boxes of product, and sweep up dust and grime.

Just looking through the window into the Shack, you find it is a lot bigger than you expected. Ten or fifteen people could browse comfortably in there.

Inside are tons of posters advertising new card releases - looks like they are releasing 387-482 next week, Turtwig through Mesprit. There's a long table for a playspace, and a low glass case with a cash register on it. Behind this counter is a skinny man and a portly woman. The man has his hair swept up and back, and it is dyed green. The woman has flowing white/gray hair, though she doesn't seem any older than the man (mid-30's).

Hanging from the ceiling are big origami legendary birds, the edges of their wings lined with foil.

The store also sells Pokemon comics, fake tattoos, sleeves, playmats, dice, and organizers. They've got a big calendar of events that they host, including a regionally famous con in August (obviously it's not held in this shack!)

There are two games you can play with any trading cards:
Creshire Crash
A typical deck consists of 50 creatures plus 25 energy cards. There are no Trainer cards - all that kind of thing are Pokemon abilities or moves. Each Pokemon has four abilities of some kind, which can be moves, spells, held items, Pokemon Powers, whatever. Some Pokemon are so worthless that they are only good for their abilities. No more than 4 of a single Pokemon species in a deck - or just 1 of a legendary species.
Battle is much like the Pokemon TCG we have IRL.
It's possible to play for keeps.

Triple Triad
This game originated in the Torren region (as far as the Pokemon world is concerned!).
This is played on a 3x3 playmat/battlefield. Your deck is only 4 or 5 cards. On all four sides of any Creshire Crash is a number from 0 to 10. You take turns placing your cards in the grid, trying to place bigger numbers adjacent to your opponent's. Whenever you do, you place a counter on their card to show you have Taken it.
Since each card is for Triple Triad as well as Creshire Crash, it's possible to have a Legendary that's great for one but terrible for the other.
It's possible to play for keeps.

A booster pack contains 10 cards. One is guaranteed to be a rare. $100 a pack.
The Starter Set contains 52 unique Kanto Pokemon - all the Kanto Fire, Water, and Grass types. Plus the legendary birds as holographics! There are appropriate duplicates of these 52 species in order to make 3 preset decks, or you can mix and match a dual-element deck. $750.
Singles are available too. Most rares are about $200, and they don't have every species. Of course, if you're selling a rare, you only get about $50 for it!

There are different varieties of any given species, but we won't get into that much here. It's possible to take a Gaming Science specialty if you have XP to burn, but most players in Creshire are very casual. Battles will go off Insight+Knowledge+Gaming, with modifiers for rare cards and such.

(Since this portion is still mostly relevant, allow me to do some copy pasta with some tweaks and expassion!)

At first Ventus blinked a few times in disbelief at gazing upon the fluffy white form of an Alolan Vulpix with his dearest of friend claiming to be her owner, before he roused himself from his shock with a small shake of his head. He then turned his attention to Shiva, curiosity and a hint of fascination now mixed in his surprised expression as he responded to her in an tone of slight amazement.

"If my eyes do not deceive me, that's an Alolan Vulpix you possess! I thought it was unheard of to see the regional variety outside the frosty peaks of its home region, but it appears I've been misinformed. And you acquired it for that brute savage of a Druggedion you defeated? Given the rarity of the snowy sub-species outside its native region, that's a simply superb deal you've made! Perhaps if it wouldn't trouble you, could I possibly record some information about it when you can spare her? I've never had the chance to study an Alolan Pokémon myself in hardly any capacity besides reading the reports and research papers of others, and I'd like the opportunity to observe and then compare their behavior to their Kanteon counterparts. Regardless, my deepest congratulations, my love (<- He only says this if Nathan's is not around), and may you two grow to be splendid partners!"

He had a wide smile on his face by the end of his small speech, clearly ethusied by not only having the rare privilege of meeting with a Alolan Species himself, but the fact that Shiva was fortunate enough to obtain one for herself. Their shared mystical nature would naturally bring them that much closer together at Extreme Speed, and its evolution will certainly fit his fae francy's affinity with the type! Hmm.....perhaps he would have to work towards getting an Ice Stone for her someday once the snowy vulpine matures/learns its moves, but for now he's just happy they are here with the group as they!

On a whim, he decided to reach into his satchel, fingers brushing against his Reshirim plushie bringing a smaller but not less content smile on his face, and pulled out his carton of blueberry, took a small handful of them, and offered them to the Alola Vulpix. Maybe they'd like a nice sweet and blue treat, kinda sorta like what they are at heart?

Having received that Skarmory print earlier, Nathan's actually quite a bit more interested in these cards now.  If his Skarmory is Steel/Metal type instead of Flying/Colorless though (cuz TCG types are slightly different from the games'...and all but one Skarmory card have all been Metal type IRL), that's going to be hard to slot into a deck without the appropriate Energy and like-typed pokemon...

For now, he and Ralts are just going to browse, see what kind of cards are on display (would Furret be interested in what's going on here at all?).  Maybe there's some more Morgusi cards hanging around, though they're probably super duper expensive collectibles if they're the real deal instead of prints...

Interesting that the Sinnoh pokemon are getting released next week...well, minus the BIG legendaries of that region...Nathan might have to keep an eye on that, though...Gallade would be in next week's release...

For what it is, the shack is actually kinda nice looking as well.  They've done a good job of making do with what they have.

You can only use one move per round in Kimono Girl battles.

Kimono Girl vs Heart Round 2

Umbreon increases her speed! When near Koa, she nips at him or bats at him just a bit.

Quick Attack
(5)(6)(6)
(5)(5) Koa takes 2 dmg 4/6hp -1 pain

Slash
(2)(1)(3)(5)(6)(5)(2), no performance points for this move! The crowd actually sucks in their breath a bit, because it's a lot more dangerous than what you normally see in a Kimono Girl battle. Umbreon is quick to twirl with the slash, avoiding a critical hit by an inch. Truth be told, Koa's heart is not entirely in this Slashing attack against a beautiful (female!) dancer.
(2)(2)(6) Umbreon takes 1 dmg 6/7hp

Kimono Girl vs Heart Round 3

False Swipe is a bigger hit with the crowd. See how the graceful dragon comes very very close to the little Umbreon, but withdraws his tusks at the last moment! And you don't have to hold back. Very useful!

False Swipe
(4)(5)(6)(3)(3)(6), (5)(1)(6) 2 perform
(5)(2) Umbreon takes 1 dmg 5/7hp -1 pain

Umbreon makes the crowd laugh a bit by stepping into Koa's shadow and stepping whenever he steps, mimicking his Dragon Dance from behind, and even turning around when he does to always be behind him!

Pursuit
(3)(5), (3)(1)(2)(2)(2)(5) = 5 perform
(6)(5)(1) Koa takes 2 dmg 2/6hp -2 pain

First impressions of the Trading Card Store were not the brightest nor glamorous for Ventus, as its ramshackle , runned down exterior left a lot to be desire in what he expected a business of any significant repute, causing a small frown to form as he began to think he was mistaken coming here in the first place. Entering the store and seeing the interior was in rough condition as well did nothing to dispel his misgivings, but the relative neat and tidiness of the place and the wide selection of Pokémon and game related merchandice did marginally improve the researcher's opinions. Malphena was hovering over and behind her master's shoulder as she scanned/searched the place of anything that could pique her interests, but otherwise she stuck close to avoid any trouble from the shopkeeps for the most part. She didn't think they'd pose her a problem, but she didn't want to make any enemies for herself or her master, so no spooky business from her! (Anything she might be interested in here, Iron?)

Similarly to Nathan, the sociologist decided to give the shop a tour to see what it has to offer someone like him, specifically scouring the store for any of Keni Morsugi's cards or indication of where he might find one. Being the fairly practical and heavily dedicated to his research and scholarly pursuits (such as reading/poetry) outside of Pokémon battling/bonding with his family, Ven didn't find much appeal in card or dice games of most any kind, especially if they involved gambling or wagers of any sort. Board games and the occasional video game was fine with him (though he doesn't have a PC/laptop to play the later), though, and he did have a fondness of knickknacks (particularly if the where Dragon/Steel/Ghost themed/based)!

Updated that price.

They have all the Gen IV cards up to and including the Lake Trio.
Creshire cards are a bit more varied/random than IRL, so I'll roll for it! Heads it's Colorless. (4) Yep, the decision was to focus on the Flight of this fearsome bird. (Not that it entirely matters for a print).

Furret is more interested in that Minccino than the cards, which she doesn't really think of as anything more than cardboard right now. But this shack is perfect Furret habitat.

Genuine Morgusi cards may be used in conjunction with a printout of a card of the same species - in other words, it counts as owning all cards of that species. The originals are too valuable to do this with, but they often make an official limited edition card from his art. The amount of detail and spirit is so fine that they are extremely hard to counterfeit.

In that glass case are three Morgusi cards: Geodude, a new Lucario promotional card, and a Cofagrigus.

"Yes! You have a Keen Eye, my friend!" says the green-haired man. "These are our Morgusi cards. Together they're worth as much as the rest of this collection. Geodude is a card prized by collectors, one of the first Morgusi did when he became famous. That'd be tournament legal. Lucario is a Morgusi original! He's here to promote the release of the next wave of Pokedex numbers. No one uses these in tournaments because they're worth so damn much. But it might be tournament legal someday, so if you're interested, get in ahead of the game!"

"ohhhhh, ohhhhh, but they're nothing compared to this Cofagrigus. He did this back before The Change, pre-2009. That's the height of Keni Morgusi art, right there. Right, dear?" She nods. "Look at the differences between Lucario vs Cofagrigus. Both hand-painted originals, but...well, something just seems a little less special about today's Morgusi cards."

It's true. It's not like the amount of skill or quality has lessened, but a little of the spirit has gone out of the art in Morgusi's modern work. Geodude looks like it's almost up to the old standard, but of course this is just a high-quality copy.

The only card that interests Malphena is the special Ditto card.

It's just a mirrored piece of cardboard.

She makes sure her necklace is in place. Such a beautiful Pokemon in this card!!

A colorless Skarmory.  Perfect.  Means it fits in any deck that might benefit from its abilities and attacks, so no need to worry about how splashable it is.

Furret's free to wander.  Not like Nathan can really tell her what to do atm, right?

Nathan frowns a little at seeing the slight drop in enthusiasm between Lucario and Cofagrigus.  "Well, that's a shame...I wonder why that might be..."

He looks at that starter kit...$750...but it...might be fun...definitely not something he needs, though...

...

...it IS his birthday, though...

...

Ralts looks up at him.  Nudges him as if to say 'come on, it's time to be happy.  Have some fun.'

...

Nathan looks at Shiva and Ventus.  The question that follows is kinda half-hesitant.

"...would you guys mind if we...split the cost of a starter pack, maybe?"

"Lets continue the with our best Koa! Use your strengh with this next attack! Use Dual Chop! If we gonna loose, we loose in style until the end!"

(Since only one move can be use per round then this mean each attack of Dual Chop can be deal? Like one of the attacks of Dual Chop land then another one. If not then I add a False Swipe in the attacking pool)

Dual Chop Accuracy: Dex (*4) + Fight (3) + Brawl (3) - Accuracy (1) - Actions (2/3) = 7d6/6d6
Damage: Power (2) + STR (*4) + STAB (1) - Rivalry (1) = 6d6
Effect: Double Action
Kogeki currently ability to active in battles: Anticipation.

Whether it be the man talking to Ventus, Nathan, or the both of them, the researcher could help but agree with the high esteem their held Morisugi's cards, as even his unrefined eye could tell the illustration work on the card were nothing short of impeccable and exquisite. He expected to see highly quality artsmanship from the description the boy gave him earlier, but he was still startled by how magnificently and richly detailed/colored/styled the training card were.

He was also quick to notice/discovered Malphena mooning over what appeared to be a creative interpretation of a Ditto card, causing him to let out a mirthful chuckle and a slight shake of his head at the display and silently contemplated it briefly. 'First a prankster/overly playful, then a showboat and a braggart, and now she has a vain streak too? My sister certainly has a colorful personality, doesn't she? Make me want to get to know her all the more, and one day bring her completely into the fold of our family....'

'A shame the man's too meek to let his artwork stand by itself in the art galleries, circles, and museums of the world, but to each their own and what fulfills them, I suppose,' the researcher thought as he scanned the cards with an appreciative gleam in his eyes, before turning his attention towards the green haired clerk/owner a politely inquired further about Morisugi's work.

"Sir, are these Keni Morsugi card for sale, and if so what might be the individual prices for each of them be? I must admit while I'm not a fan of card game, I'm quite taken with the passion and vivid detail he instilled in the artwork on these cards, even if it has waned in recent times. Oh, and how much would it cost to purchase the Special Ditto Card? My Misdreavus seem to have taken a liking to it, as you no doubt can tell, and I'd like to treat her a bit if possible. If you have durable card protectors available I'd like to purchase one as well for the Ditto Card."

Order: Find out the prices for these cards first, before anything else is decided upon. Depending if they are within affordable range dictate whether or not I'll have enough leftover money to spend on helping purchase a gift for Nathan. Thems the breaks!
