[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
(03-27-2018, 09:04 PM)Spiritmon Wrote: After finally selling the Garnet along with his money, he finally enter in the Pokemon Center, searching for any of his companions. He sit in the table and send a quick message to him telling he already have sell the Garnet and he is ready to make the trade. Before he forgot, Heart make a quick change in his team and put Scyther in the party to finally trade with Ventus. "Time for you to join with a new parthneer. I just hope you can be well with Ventus better you was with me."

Conveniently Ventus received the text while he was halfway in transit to the Pokémon Center, turning his disgruntled façade into a much more cheerful one as he picked up the pace to meet up with the collector poste haste, with Malphena merrily zooming along behind/beside him now that her master was in a better mood! As he entered the lobby his keen eyes were quick to spot Heart, and he was just as swift to walk over to greet them with a cheerfully energetic smile.

"Heart my friend, judging by the excitement I detect you're eager as I am to begin the trade! First, let me briefly swap out one of my Pokémon (Malphena) and retrieve the Delta Onix from the PC, then you hand me the Poke before we head over to the trade machine an conduct the exchange! Hopefully you'll become fast friends with the strange serpent, and I promise Scyther will be well taken care of and grow into a exemplar Scyther someday!"

The researcher the does as he says and swaps out his banshee for the Delta lizard,  reunites with Heart and collects his $3000 Poke as agreed upon, before the two of them head over to the trade machine to transfer ownership of Delta Onix to Heart, and obtain Scyther! (Feel free to play out this scene if you like, Spiritmon!)

Afterwards, he makes a beeline back to the PC to transfer Scyther into it in exchange for Malphena back (who he subsequently releases back to his side to snuggle against it)! He felt more than a little bad and guilty for condemning the mantis creature to the PC for the unforseable future, but he other members of his family that need his care/attention/Poke more, so it had to be done. Someday you'll get your chance to shine.....

Ven then went to the Gym to finish up training his mercenary Pokemon for the day (just saying this to make sure wibbly wobbly time line mess doesn't happen!), before he return to the lobby, picked a table to lounge at, and recorded/sent a simple voice message to Valder to come to the East Pokémon Center when they were finished with their business for the day so that they could take back their partners from his stewardship and return Haziel. He then waits patiently in the lobby, taking out his research notes and thumbing through them to review them yet again while he waited. When his mischevious spirit hovered over his shoulder to get a look at what he was reading with a cutely curious expression, the empath had to try very hard not to chuckle before he started to quietly reading it aloud for her shake, starting with one of his very first passages he penned about the Pokémon in Cheshire. As it turns out, it concerned none other than the Apsis and their Ekans sibling/partner, with it reading as thus:

"Pokémon Species: Ekans
Typing, Diet, Wieght, Size, Height etc..
Encountered: Outskirt of Trillum EDIT: Grasslands and Marshlands/Swamps, based on other regional data on species and observations of how my own captive Ekans responded and behaved in these locations.
Baseline/Non Socialized Behavior: Aggressive, hostile, predatory, sneaky, defiant/willful, onry
Captive/Socialized Behavior: See Entry 'Apsis'
Notes: Two Ekans were first encountered coordinating a hunt against a trainer and his Pokemon, presenting evidence suggesting that the species here are not exclusively solidary predators as they are recorded in other regions, but more field research and cross refrencing Cheshire's own records on the species will have to be done before the validity of this claim can be fully accessed. Both practiced ambush tactics, but also distraction and luring, with one confronting its prey head on with debilitating moves like Glare and Poison Sting, while the other sneaks up and helps finish off target or subdue it with Wrap. Torn articles of clothing around the den indicate that the species has adapted to preying on humans, though to what extent is unknown. Local species also appears more aggressive and Disobedient than what has been display in other regions, but more field research and cross refrencing etc.. etc. etc.
Bonding/Socialization Potential + Techniques: Limited EDIT: If feed wild Pokémon regularly and safely facilitate, condon, and accept its wild predatory nature/behavior, they will quickly both with a trainer; Respect and praise for said behavior aids with bonding too, as does not being fearful of them; likes being petted and scratch, especially along the eye ridges.
ETC, ETC...."

Order: Conduct the Trade Deal with Heart, and wait for Valder to return (prefarbly at your discersion, Iron), and then head out to Stair City to hunt down a Sandstorm TM! While he's waiting, he'll pass the time by reading aloud his research to Malphena. Its a way to bond for the both of them, and it gives a peek at what his notes are like in some areas!

Heart was very much deligh to see Ventus in such mood and wave his hand to him. "Indeed I am my friend! Sorry about the delay in give you the pokedollars my friend. The jewel job take a while to be finish it and I was having some other things to do, like the Ceremony. I unfortanely have loose that battle sorry heh." Heart was a little embarassed about that. "Perpaps let Koa fight against a female Umbreon was not the mostly bright idea I ever had. Talking about battles yesterday I have a enjoyable pokemon battle against Shiva. You should have see my friend! The way she fight against my pokemons, the prediction about what kind of pokemon each one of us would use, the twist and turn tables. In the beggining I was having the upper hand, but in the process my pokemon got hurt or faint, and Shiva turn the table with her two pokemon of her: Cottonee and Spritzee. It was with no doubt the mostly difficult, epic and awesome battle I ever had! Even more than the one against Dagny."

"We both faint the pokemon of each one of us than in the end each one have only two Pokemon: Shiva Cottonee and Spritzee with the second with full health and the first a bit hurt, and Percival the Aron and Typhon the Tynamo on my side both hurt after some previous battle. That was a intense battle. Aron was heal because of Gustav Heal Pulse but even with that, man, that was though even with the typing advantage. Anything could happen! But then I was able to beat Cottonee then leave the path for Typhon and Percival who flinch Spritzee then boom! A close and difficult battle. But Shiva did her best and I proud to call her my rival. She grow so much since the day we first meet. She grow more confident and stronger. And as a result in the battle, Percival have evolve too!" Then Heart release the pokeball showing the big, bad and stronger Lairon! "He is now a powerfull Lairon my friend! A enjoying and happy ending in the battle! You should have see: That last Iron Head and in the same Aron showing the silver light of evolution...that will be a moment I will always carry in my memory for the rest of my life." Then Heart give a pat in the big head of Percival. "He even leave begind his old armor shell with his mask. And I give to Shiva as gift about her grow and develop. She deserve after that awesome battle."

"And I think Koa and Cottonee rivality grew stronger. Koa will certainly eager to fight Cottonee again. Ah the old rivality between dragons and fairies...this someway something poetic like the rivality between me and Shiva! Of course, we are friends, but that doesnt mean we cant have a little competition isn't?" Then Heart finally end the events of past day. "And I of course I find that Hypno I have told you. I gonna wait for later this night to take a look in the Cathedral. Both because Hypno was interest to me there today and because I didnt give up in my searching for that Gargryph I have heard when we was in Star City." Then Heart stop talking. "Heh, sorry if I take so long talking and talking. I ready to trade my friend! And here the money I have promise my friend." Then Heart give the money in the hand of Ventus. "And I still have good money with me. I must remember to give Shiva some money to help us find that "place"." Heart was referring about the library but he didnt out loud. Never know when the worse type of person might hear. "Lets go make the trade."

Mecanic: Ready to begin the trade @Iron! My Scyther for Ventus Delta Onix!

There is a difference between the Geodude card and the Skarmory "card." The Geodude card is a rare promotional physical card, tournament legal, bearing Morgusi's art. Just being a Morgusi card instead of some lesser artist's card makes it very valuable, for a card. It's a copy in the same way that all cards are, aside from the one unique original.

The Skarmory "card" is printed on the birthday card directly. This is not easy to do with Morgusi's art, and it was probably fairly costly to get such a high quality print, but it is not a physical trading card. It is not tournament legal because it's basically a photo of the card, albeit a very good one. Now, it's printed on cardstock and Nathan could cut it out if he wished, but it's not really a card. You can think of it as a high-quality bootleg.

Tried to make this clear as we went along but I don't think we're on the same page. Hopefully this post makes it clear! (Maybe it was a confusing idea to try to put a birthday card and a trading card in the same context).

I'll simply assume that Vulpix gladly eats the blueberries this young man offers to her out of his cupped hand, mostly because it's stated that she eats a lot and she may cotton on that this person is a good person from the way Master reacted to him.

Shiva couldn't help but to be amused by the gaze of wonder, amazement and suprise Ventus gave her - it was pretty much the same way as she herself reacted when offered this fox by Melia, yet with an honest delight mixed in upon the anticipitation that this fox will be hers!

Once she ate every last berry and even faintly licked over Ven's hand in thankfulness, she let out a delighted yip over the attention she received, even wagging her many tails over the foreshadowing of 'recording some information about her', whatever that may mean she doesn't know. But it sounds like fun!

From Shiva, Vulpix received a dear stroke over her icy headfluff, before she got up again and made attempts to move on in direction of the Shack, speaking as they go. "I highly doubt the Ace Trainer I traded with caught this Vulpix here in Chreshire, Ven. That'd amaze me, much! Sure you can study her once if ya like, I'd be happy to get to know what you've found out then. But...haha, thank you for the congrats!" She dearly and shyly links arms with Ventus for the rest of the way, mostly because he called her....'love'. Awww! She has to get used to that at first, but she nevertheless appreciates it. Rather quickly, somethingesle came to her mind, something she didn't spoke out though. He said he wanted to talk tonight, and she doesn't know about that, but she got the clear impression that something's troubling him. H-hopefully they can clear things up then...

Only Nathan (and Shiva if she's there) hear.

Of course Shiva's there. In fact, she was looking forward to visit this place, and now that she's actually there, she barely manages to contain her delight, smiling and enjoying the atmosphere here in the Shack in every aspect! It's rare for her to show emotions so openly and not-coyly, she usually only does so when something fascinates her while being in a secure area.

Pointless to say, she was mystified by how clean the inside of the Shack was, depite everything here was screaming 'I'm vintage!!' at high volume, but she she soon spotted that Minccino on a Chicorita. How cuuute! If these two allow, Shiva pets them dearly. <3

She's a tad bit disappointed that Unovian Pokemon aren't available as cards yet according to the posters here, but maybe if she's lucky she'll still manage to obtain one or two cards depicting Pokemon she owns and holds dear. Like, the Azurill-line, or Eevee and Vaporeon! Or Pokemon she greatly likes but doesn't own herself, like Clefairy or Murkrow. That regional-famous Con held in August was something she instantly noted down in the calender of her cell to remember, as that was something she certainly does NOT want to miss for the experience and curiosity! Hopefully the group will reside nearby the event to enable a visit.

She let's Ventus and Nathan follow their own business and interest here, which she does as well and eventually got into reading through the various games one can play with these Trading Cards, their respective rules and any other aspect of these Cards the shop does provide with great attention. Humm, they seem to be something she would enjoy, basically collectibles with artworks including some from this Ken Morgusi that one can play games with if desired, even hold battles! VIA CARDS, NO POKEMON GET HURT!!! Why doesn't Unova has such a cool feature?

A bit of pondering later, Shiva stepped to the counter looking all eager on the outside, and slid 200$ over the vendor with the...pretty cool green hair, roughly the same shade her skirt has. "Eh, hi. Please give two random booster packs, I'm feeling bold and lucky today. A nice store you have here! Say, are you the only place in Chreshire where one can buy these cards? I'm journeying and originate from a different region, and there we don't have such cards at all to play with and collect."

On the inside, Shiva's feeling a bit insecure however, mostly because she doesn't know how they'll actually react to a young female getting interested into this kind of stuff. Her apperance points to her being a cute geek or nerd though if we want to use labels, so hopefully no weird looks, neither from the Vendor nor any Players here? She'll open these booster packs right away, pretty curious what she got - huh, this mildly reminded her on the moment a Mystery Egg hatches - you know very roughly what it contains (a Pokemon, or Pokemon Cards in this case), may guess or hope what to obtain, but you'll only know for sure when you actually see it - this gave her a pleasant shiver.

At least there he has a pleasant transaction he's looking forward too.... (...)

Only this somehwhat harsh wording and subsequent leaving of her newlyfound love caused her too look up from her 20 new cards, but before she could say aomething or even react, Ventus already left without her having an idea what may have caused this. She watches him leave, looking pretty much the same confused as when Nathan left to the Center after the phone call.

...not that Nathan could entirely blame Ventus for leaving so abruptly...still kinda hurts, getting semi-ignored like that, though...

...well, at least the lady seems a bit more...mindful.  And Shiva could still help with the purchase...maybe...

Ralts is staring at Shiva now, wordlessly asking her to respond to Nathan's question.  Nathan's gone back to looking at that starter box himself, having been semi-distracted by Ventus's outburst...three decks, three types...or two decks with two types each, maybe...three Legendary Birds...

Now that Shiva was back on the current planet, she reacted to Spritzee half-hidden on her right shoulder gave a delighted chirp in a greeting to something or someone, and looking into it she found Ralts...starring at her. For whatever reason. There was no reason to be scared or worried however, so she mildly smiled to the smol psychic fairy. Where was his Master, Shiva rememebers Nathan asking something to them, but she wasn't paying attention, sadly.

Oh, Nathan was right there, investigating one of these Starter Packs that now caught Shiva's attention as well. A whole deck, three even, she wasn't sure whether she does need so many cards at once though. If she'd desire to get into playing, maybe, but she was yet undisclosed. Nudging Nathan on the shoulder, she gently told him "Excuse me, Nathan, but you asked something, didn't you? I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention as it seems. Can you repeat the question again, please?"

*Once he did*

That got Shiva pondering. Lots actually, and now she does take one Starter Pack into her hand to read what it contains at all herself. Pokemon from Kanto, huh! She'd loooove to have Eevee and it's three evolutions...

Eventually, she impercibly sighs, but gifts Nathan and Ralts a small smile. "Well... I don't yet know whether I'd like to get into playing myself, collecting a few cards at first would do it for me... But if you want, we can surely share the costs for one of these Starter Packs. Let us go pay for it then see the cards it contains, shall we?"

-----------------
Mechanics:
Phew, so much to reply to. Spending 200$ for 20 random cards, then 375$ to buy a Starter Pack with Nathan. Chances are high that Shiva will ask to have a few of these duplicates, mostly Grass and Fire Types. She'd like to stay a little longer here at the Shack, playing a bit of Triple Triad if time allows.

Here is the info on the two Pokemon. Let me know if you have questions about how Delta Onix works.

Valder didn't have any other plans, so he would indeed return Natu at the end of the day.

Yeah, no problems with repeating the question.

And yup, $375 spent from Nathan on that starter as well.  Nathan probably ends up making a deck with Fire and Water pokemon primarily.  He's fine with Shiva taking some of the duplicates to make a Grass and Fire deck.  She did pay half the cost, after all.

Fire, Water, Grass, and the three Legendary birds...not sure if Eevee, Vaporeon, Flareon, and Jolteon would be in there since there's not a focus on Lightning type cards (but maybe eevee and Pikachu made it in there anyways somehow?).  The full set of Kanto starters are probably in there if I had to guess, though.  No Kanto based set of Fire/Water/Grass would be complete without them, after all.

All in all, Nathan's in a pretty good mood.  If Shiva wants to try out a round or two of these card games, he'd be more than happy to sit down and join her in learning the rules and playing the games. Gotta have someone to play against to get the best results from the experience, right?

Yes, if the time allows (means: if it's not dark yet outside), Shiva would be happy to have an experienced NPC or such explain the rules, and ends up playing one or two Rounds of Triple Triad to get into it herself. Nathan can surely join, no problem!~

"Aww, there are gaming stores in all the bigger cities. Corsage Port, the Department Store in Stair City, Botanville for that sweet university customer base. And a little shop in Charring Cross. But ours is the biggest and we have the rarest cards."

He hands over two booster packs. Doesn't seem at all concerned that you're a girl.

I'll tweak this technique as we go. I'm going to write a program to generate random cards for me.

If you want to know what's in the Starter Set, go on Bulbapedia and look at all the Kanto Pokemon of Fire, Grass, and Water types. There are fifty of each element, meaning there'll be more duplicates in a Fire deck than a Water deck. Water's strategy is generally to play a few strong creatures rather than spam the board with aggressive duplicates, so this is no problem.
An Eevee should also go with the Fire and Water decks, I suppose, as well as any prevolutions for Fire, Water, and Grass Pokemon I may have overlooked.

If a Pokemon has two types, just flip a coin or decide for yourself. This is kind of like the gender thing in that I don't want to restrict you too much for things that have niche importance.

Starter set does come with mats, and they will sell you a coupon for a lifetime supply of sleeves for $100.

The white haired lady comes over to teach you how to play Triple Triad and you can do some games with her with your new cards.

I added a tab to your character sheets for cards. You'll have to fill in the rest yourselves.

Shiva has 7 dice pool and Nathan has 6.
Here's a couple games for fun:
(2)(3)(6)(1)(4)(3)(4) vs (6)(1)(2)(3)(2)(1)
(5)(2)(2)(5)(2)(5)(3) vs (5)(3)(1)(6)(2)(6)
(4)(1)(1)(6)(6)(5)(5) vs (2)(2)(1)(6)(6)(5)

The starter decks should be effectively equal in power so there's no bonuses.

I may publish a rarity list in a bit, but generally in a typical 3 stage line, it will go common-uncommon-rare (starters) or common-common-uncommon (early route Pokemon). Lapras and Magmar and such are rare. Two stage Pokes like Weezing are common-uncommon or occasionally uncommon-uncommon.
