[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole

Move Tutoring

We have an interesting scenario here, because Raphael has never used the move before and thus Ventus isn't very familiar with it (-1 dice). However, having Raphael on hand and knowing the move adds 1 success. For a net profit of +0.5.
And the move is a non-damaging one, so that's just 10 successes needed.

5 Insight + 2 Knowledge + 1 Move Tutoring = 8d6+1
(5)(5)(6)(4)(6)(2)(2)(5) Malphena collects 7 successes out of 10.

I imagine it takes the form of some pouncing lessons, possibly on the Roggenrola.

Both hurtloam-hunting characters have 3 Survival and 0 Nature/Earthpower.

Valder: (5)(6)(6)
Heart: (6)(4)(1) The dice are hot today, and the mud is extremely fertile despite the lack of sunlight. Valder finds 3 Hurtloam and Heart finds 2. They also find lots of thick moss. It's inedible to humans, but someone like Yule could eat it.

What a scary sight it was as that Frillish showed itself, gifting her a coy smile that foreshadowed NOTHING good - though instead of being afraid by that, she keeps standing - with two Dark Types, one trained professionally by Ginger Town's Daycare owners and one trained by her to defend her of Ghosts AND a selfmade Cleanse Tag in her pocket, she shouldn't be scared. Really not. Deep breathing helped calming her and keeping her cool.

It seemed like this Frillish had no eyes, but that was not directly what caught her interest. Instead, it were the fact that it wasn't unafraid of her either, quickly followed by these rather telling shiny scales it scattered over the water surface............ Seeing these was enough to cause a massive desire within her to register that jellyfish to a free Pokeball.

As Frillish came closer however, Shiva carefully took a step backwards nevertheless, her gaze fixated on it, as no matter how strong that desire was, it was no excuse to risk getting too close to it. According to how its tentacles ended in a clear line instead of being waved, it's defintely a male exemplar. Throwing a glance at Yena, who was already snarling and bristling his fur at that waterly Ghost Type, she figured that Frillish was within her dog's range - but not close enough for him to avoid the water surface, much to her worry.

Fine.... She does not want to lure that Frllish EVEN CLOSER to enable that, despite she knew that she would likely succeed on this given Frillish came to her anyway. She took one more step back, hoping that Frillish follows to close the distance, then another - then pointed forward with one hand, which was the signal for Poochyena to ATTACK. "Stay away from the water surface however, a much more dangerous foe lurks in there!", she warned him as he leaped forward, baring his teeth.

----------------------------------------------
Accuracy Roll Bite 1: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2*Brawl for this Poochyena (that's his 20xp Suprise) - 2 Actions = 5d6
Accuracy Roll Bite 1: 3 Dext + 2 Fight + 2*Brawl - 3 Actions = 4d6
Damage Roll: 3 Strength + 2 power of the move + 1 STAB = 6d6 + 1 autodamage due to being SE
Additional notes: There are 3d6 to flinch. We'll faint that thing, then catch it.

It definitely has Illuminate. Nothing else seems unusual about it, aside from living deep underground instead of deep underwater. The lake does look very deep, though.

Hmmm...yup, that could be a problem...as much as Illuminate attracts prey, it also attracts predators...

...

...gah, he's still not comfortable with this whole thing concerning pokemon hunting other pokemon...wild pokemon, it's easier for him to understand...no trainers to taper off their natural habits...living with humans though, they don't need to hunt other pokemon, kill potential friends...

...not these days, anyways...

...

...he can't help but cast a glance at Calam, who's still looking out over the water, keeping an eye on that Sharpedo.  Easily Nathan's most ruthless battler when it's called for.  How many pokemon must he have killed before with those claws and blades of his?

...

Calam glances back.  Shrugs.  Goes back to watching for that Sharpedo.  He's not a picky eater by a long shot.  Traveling with Nathan has certainly been different, but he wouldn't necessarily call that a bad thing.

...

Nathan looks back at Chinchou, who's still slowly moving away, Illuminating the area as it goes...

...

...one thing's for sure: he can't just leave Chinchou to its own devices if it ends up attracting Sharpedo.  So he either has to drive it away...or catch it.

...he feels incredibly conflicted about this.

...no more hesitation.  Just act.  Do something.

'But this is its home...I can't just...'

There's a Sharpedo in the water, and a bright light on the shores.  It's not a problem now, but if that shark comes any closer...

'...'

Just catch it already.  Find it a new home later.  It won't hate you for it.  Chinchou and Lanturn are friendly creatures.

'...'

Out comes Yule again a moment later.

"Yule, battle time again.  Calam, let me know if anything changes about that Sharpedo."

Alright, initiative time!

Chinchou: (3) +2 Dex + 2 survival = 7
Yule: (1) + 8 = 9

Not sure if Calam is intended to battle but if so his init is (5). If you use him, there'll be no fighting Xp for the battle.

Calam's on standby for now, just watching for that Sharpedo.

"Yule, Vine Whip.  We need to extinguish that light.  Try and keep Chinchou out of the water. No holding back."

Vine Whip x3
Accuracy: 5 + 3 + 3 - 3/4/5 = 8/7/6 D6
Damage: 3 + 3 + STAB = 7 D6 base
Note: 20 foot range

We'll try using Nathan's last normal pokeball on Chinchou once it's fainted.

Whoahw, that went way easier and faster than Shiva has expected it to go - how delightful!~ It seems like Golda andWir's training on Dizzy and Shiva's training on Poochyena pays off.

As the butterwolfly drags the faint body to the shore, mixing the shiny trail with the cloud of shield dust he leaves behind, Shiva dares to come close to take a better look at that Frillish - Now then, what color sheme does it have in particular? - while her butterwolfly gets a few appreciating strokes over the ears and under his chin for the good work. Neither he nor Dizzy were pained nor cursed, what a win-win situation.

Now that the threat was defeated, it was time to give in to the desire to register it to a normal Pokeball - as she actually does not desire to keep that particular Frillish due to having Litwick for the ghostly traits and Azumarill for the waterly traits as companions already. She'll drop one Pokeball onto Frillish, the moment it breaks she'll summon her Gothitelle to confuse it with a well-placed Flatter to make it easier. If that is not possible, she'll call for Ventus to put that jellyfish asleep with Michael's Spore, assuming that he's within ear range.

Any XP Special Poochyena gains go directly into speeding up his evolution, I won't keep track of these on charasheet unless you ask me to please do so as well.

Chinchou Round 1

Vine Whip 1
(4)(3)(5)(4)(6)(2)(2)(5)
(4)(2)(1)(5)(2)(6)(5) Chinchou takes 4 dmg 1/5hp -3 pain.

It's not even attacking in return, just squirmin' to get away. I'll give Yule a free Grapple action with that Vine Whip. Normally it should be a separate action if you want to move a Pokemon.

(4)(6)(3)(4)(5)(4)(3)(6) Chinchou is hauled out of the water.

Vine Whip 2
(2)(2)(2)(4)(3)(5)(4)
(4)(6)(1)(4)(1) Chinchou faints

Pokeball: (6)(1) vs (3)

Easy peasy. Yule gains 2XP and Nathan gains 1Xp.

Chinchou was caught!

Looking at it, seems Yule OHKOed another pokemon with a critical, SE attack.  Forgot to add the SE part to my calculations.  Second Vine Whip wasn't even necessary.  Whoops.

End result: Yule's doing awesome.

Nathan gives Yule a very appreciative pat on the head after bagging that Chinchou.  "Great job, buddy.  Really pulling your weight right now."

Nathan looks over the water with Calam (Alert increases to 1 for 6 exp since Nathan's being far more wary and cautious than usual!).  Does he see Sharpedo anywhere?
