Before Malphena ended up getting recalled for Lucifer to take her place by her master's side, she had the opportunity to sneak right up on Ralts while everyone was distracted , hoping to get a nice BIG revenge scare out of him for sicking that Dark brute Calam on her! That'll show him for overreacting to her teasing, hmpt! However, just as she got into position behind him and was ready to initiate the jumpscare, she was astute enough to notice two key things about the abnormal Psychic type: he appeared to be aware of her presense and yet was completely apathetic to it, and on top of that he seemed........distressed about something, to the point of distraction.
This almost immediately deflated any sense of thrill or excitement from her about scaring him, and left instead left in its place a strange mixture of confusion, perplextion, and......worry? Now THAT wasn't a feeling she'd ever expect to feel about that squirt, but.....well......to see him without their sassy temper and brave, defiant attitude was equally strange to her. Its no fun to try and to get a fright out of somebody not feeling it, nor is it seeing him like....this too.
With those thoughts in mind, the screeching banshee elected to abandon her jumpscare attempt entirely, and instead float right beside the young psychic and fix him with a questioning and oddly concerned stare, then simply contenting herself to be near him until her master recalled her. Something was wrong with the abnormal Ralts, and she would get to the bottom of it sooner or later, *Screee.....*
*Flashback End?*
(Decided it would be easier to just make a post in response to Ralts behavior, ok?)
Flashback indeed!
Ralts casts Malphena a sidelong glance.
...then goes back to ignoring her, his attention squarely on Nathan, his focus entirely on just being there for his best friend. Who he's sticking next to like glue, obviously. But moreso than usual.
It's rather...depressing.
Nathan's scared. Scared of what might happen to Carbink and its friends. He's afraid they'll hurt themselves for no reason...or that the Scimitars will finish them off if they don't do the job themselves with Self-Destruct/Explosion. Or that Ventus might seek retribution for Carbink almost braining Shiva...it's not safe for them in the immediate future, no matter how he looks at it...
...and he can't do a thing about it because he screwed up so, so massively...
...the only thing he CAN do is move on, hope that they decide to listen to what he was trying to say...but he knows they probably won't...
...and so, he's sad. Angry. Frustrated. Worried. Scared.
...and Ralts is too. How much of it is genuine is hard to tell, as he shares many of his feelings with Nathan and vice versa these days, but...it should be clear to Malphena (being a Misdreavus and all) that Ralts is genuinely afraid. Of what? Well, that's the hard part...
Nathan is completely oblivious to Malphena's presence right now, btw. Swiftfire's noticed her (as Nathan and Ralts are currently mounted on her), but has elected to just ignore the ghost unless given good reason not to.

While that glance Ralts gave her was only fleeting at best, it certainly gave Malphena a lot of Insight on the source of his woes, along with the genuine feelings of fear that he extruding like a miserable taffy machine that sorely tempted her to dig right into. He was afraid....no, he was downright tormented by something, and based on what she knew of the breed that her master told her about over his notes (*Bang!* goes the Chevok Gun!) and how such terrible feelings were almost a mirror image of his master.....she KNEW who the culprit was.
And judging by the thoroughly annoyed/miffed expression that took place on the screaming banshee's face, she was very displeased about this.
Doesn't that boy know he was sharing his misery UNDILUTED with his trusted partner, and driving them into despair too as a result?! Her master had said off handily that this 'Nathan' could be a bit insensitive at times, but she didn't expect that quality to manifest in such a offensive way! A trainer's job was to take care of their Pokémon and be with them when they need it, and so to they return the favor, but this display struck her as leaning WAY TO FAR onto his abnormal Ralts as an outlet for his grief! No, no, no , that wasn't right at ALL!
That thought firmly in mind, and figuring that Ralts would continue to be miserable/frightened and ignore any form of interaction with her unless she outright started slinging Ghostly magicks at him, the mischevious spirit decided to solve this issue by going straight to the source of it, te he !
To that end, she dematerialized from the young empath's side by phasing through the floor and leaving him by himself.....
.....and proceeded to jumpscare Nathan by shooting out of the ground and giving him a niiiiiice long and frightening glower while only inches away from his face, a low menacing *Screeeeee* being emitted by her all the while. If he was so wrapped up in his own doubts and worries that he was neglecting almost everyone else and his Ralts most of all, she'd give him something to REALLY get work up over and snap out of it as punishment, hmpt! Which should be VERY effective, seeing as he was COMPLETELY unaware of her existence until now, te he he......
Once he was all shaken up and withdrawned from his misery, she toned down her scary face and instead just fixed him with a irritated glare, before twisting around and directing her sight straight at his Ralts and back to him again, and letting out a displeased *Scree.......* . This should have indicated (to her) in a rather clear way to the boy that A) Ralts was miserable, B) She was displeased about it, to say the least, and C) She decided to scare him to teach him a lesson because.....? Given Nathan was a bright boy, he should be able to connect the dots and figure out what she's getting at. Well, presuming that Ralts didn't immediately try to sleep her with Hypnosis after the jumpscare. In which case, she at least got him out of that funk and to pay attention to the feelings of others!
During this time, Ventus had gone off to retrieve Turiel from wherever she was for the upcoming dig before he recalled her and Raphael (who elected to avoid Nathan and that conflict given his misery was making THEM extremely uncomfortable), making him completely unaware of what had went down.
At least, for now.....

Instant Flashback!
(04-20-2018, 06:03 PM)Lord Windos Wrote: Such a celebratory mood didn't last for long, sadly, as before too long Shiva and Nathan came barreling back into camp with varying degree of scared and dispodant feelings between them and Swiftfire looking roughed up from something that tangled with them. Already this inspired a suitable level of surprise and alarm in the researcher, but when his most blessed girlfriend came barreling into and gave him what would have been a back breaking and terrified hug if it were not for his immense Vitality and frantically explained the situation.....well, his worries became all to severe. A fairly calm/neutral frown took over his expression that wonderfully concealed the seething fury of such repugnant actions from a twisted Fairy type, as he returned her hug and did his best to wordlessly sooth her all he could as she speak by rubbing her back and softly murmuring the Fireflies song to them.
Ventus seems to very well know how he can calm his love effectively and soothe her mind and nerves, and Shiva could not help but to pull him a little closer to herself before she eventually let go of him as well, but she didn't do so before she hasn't gifted him a somwhat sweet smile and eye contact for only a few moments, but this and the emotional response he'd likely receive was enough to make clear what she was silently trying to tell him: How glad she is to see him again. The thought of being buried alive there in the tunnel without ever having told him how much she cares for him... What a scary thought.

Aww!~ Very thankfully Shiva accepts these quartz crystals from her cutesy blue fae mouse rabbit, and packs them away into a pastel green cloth bag where she was already storing the former bigger white quartz crystal. What a nice small collection of these, and a beautiful reminder of this quest! <3 Maybe once the group has made it through Mount Sentry and reached the surface again she can find a good use for the crystals - crafting something out of them, offer them as a gift to wild Pokemon she'd like to befriend, or simply keeping them for herself - these white quartz crystals have a natural healing power, and she's well aware of it!
Azumarill stays out with her for now, and so does Furret. Due to letting her gaze wander over the current surrounding - 'huh, still in that coal seem!' - in both hidden fear and excitement, she lacks a bit behind the group, keeping her cell with the flashlight firmly in her hand. Somehow, she couldn't help but to wonder what more stuff lies around here... "Hey, Furret, dear one.... Listen, can you keep your Keen Eyes open and let me know if you find something here that looks off? Or, practically anything that looks interesting, please. Dizzy... I'm trusting in your danger sense, so please warn me of anything you pick up."

At some point during the tunnel-digging, Shiva looks behind to carefully check in on Nathan. She very well knows that he was somewhat not okay from how the encounter with these stony Pokemon turned out, and this was confirmed to her as she rested her gaze on him for a little with a neutral look herself... Naturally she was picking up the scare among other things from him, as before he already proofed to be 'easy to read' for Shiva. With these honed senses, it felt like it was even more easy now. How weird...?
Mentally, she sighed heavily. Then, a moment later, she averted her gaze from the boy and concentrated on the Pokemon digging the tunnel again... Though something in her adult mind told her that sooner or later, she'd have to talk to Nathan again and play therapist to soothe his nerves. Fine, she'll do so if being asked or if she gets the feeling that his state does impair the group in some way... She stopped counting how often she already did a similar thing for him.

It doesn't get Nathan to react in the way Nathan might have been expecting.
While Nathan was oblivious to Malphena's presence, Ralts was not. And so, Ralts warns Nathan about what's coming (as they're right next to each other), and instead of being scared from the display, Nathan is closer to...mildly annoyed.
"...I'm very much aware of how Ralts is doing, Malphena...that's just how it is...we're trying to calm down...it's...not easy...no, I don't think there's much you can do to help..."
Swiftfire (who Nathan and Ralts are still mounted on) looks a lot more irritated than Nathan and Ralts do, btw. Probably because of the lack of input from psychic empathy. She doesn't know what Malphena's potential motivation for attempting to scare Nathan is, after all.

Larvesta decides to test you. It wriggles around and shows you some scales on its abdomen. Three are missing, but two have been replaced with little droplets of stone, looking like shards of evolution stones! These are fireglass and thunderglass. If you can find a fiery-colored evolutionary shard to replace the missing scale, Larvesta will go with you. Until then, she's going to sleep and dream of being a bright sun!

At one point, Durant flat out refuses to dig straight ahead and digs a random detour. Mr. Finder says he smells gas here, after some consultation with Slurpuff. It's a lot darker her, and Swiftfire keeps her flame trimmed once she hears about the gas. She doesn't want to create an impromptu Candelabra.
Nathan paces off the distance he think Carbink could see, hear, or otherwise sense, and the Durant break through into the tunnel as directed by Mr. Finder. (It's clear by now that Slurpuff does all the truly impressive feats of sensory acumen).
You're still in the coal seams, though they have widened out. It actually looks like much of this was excavated long, long ago - there are sharp corners and missing cubes of coal. To one side is a tremendous slag heap, half-filling a pit so massive you cannot see the other side. Mr. Finder insists there is a ledge on the other side, guarded by two sleeping stone Pokemon. He thinks it's a Gigalith and a Golem, but he's not 100% sure - apparently there's something a little funny about them. Or it.
A mass of coal dust slopes down into the pit. At the bottom is a polluted sludge. Sandile are crawling in and out of it, a little disturbed by your light and your passage. You also see the eyes of a Hippopotas staring out at you; the rest of the Pokemon is submerged. There's a funny light in those eyes, though...

Nathan's staring at the murk in the pit himself. The Sandile, he can ignore. So long as they don't bother him, that's fine. Those eyes that are staring out of the muck, though...it looks like a Hippopotas...sort of...
He's not sure why, but it kinda feels like there's something...different about that hippo...it's kinda distracting...and a welcome distraction at that...

Nathan shrugs and doesn't verbally answer. Continues staring at that strange Hippopotas's eyes...
