[Game] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure: Celadon City Vandel
The Gauntlet Round 15!

Kingdra would normally prefer to flaunt her most powerful moves and utterly decimate her enemy, but between Reiner's silent urgings and that small amount of respect she find herself having for the brave Shiny Gligar, she decides to give them a slight chance to win by just spray a stream of stinging bubbles at them!

Bubblebeam 1
(6)(6)(1)(1)(6)(5)(3)(1)(1) Not enough for a Crit, surpringly, but the move will still pack quite a wallop in the Rain! Hit!
Damage: STR (*2) + 3 + STAB + Heavy Rain + SE - Vitality (3 [He doesn't benefit from Masochism, since he's still an independent Pokémon technically!]) = 5D6 + 1 Damage
(1)(1)(3)(2)(6) In a stunning display of resolve and skill, Durendal managed to dodge most of the bubbles sent his way and tank the rest like the champ, only taking 1 Damage in the entire exchange! What a champ!!! 5/6 HP!
Debuff: (4) Nope

Once the stream of bubbles abated, the scorpiobat's hovered in mid air as their gaze turned deadly serious as they stared at the Dragon Queen of the Sea, disregarding Arial's orders for the match as they pondered for their own attack plan. They know that they likely couldn't pull off another series of maneuvers like that, and that any one of her next attacks has the potential to serious cripple or outright KO them. Given her immense Defenses and relatively weak Strength, his normal tactics would only inflict chip damage on her that wouldn't be enough to put her down, giving her the chance to do the same to him. It seemed like an insurmountable task to take down Kingdra in one hit, then.

However, they had a way. It was high risk, but if he could pull it off.....

No! He would.

Time to put everything on the line, to make one of the biggest gambles in his life! He would do whatever it took to defend his friends, and he would not ever fail them like he with Delta Muk ever again!!!

A deathly aura began to surround and cling to Durendal as his claw/pincers radiated an errie light that made everyone feel nervous.

Then, in the next moment, they flickered out of sight......and then suddenly materialized in front of Kingdra, claws/pincer crossed together as they got ready to execute:

G U I L L O T I N E
ACCURACY: DEX (3) + FIGHT (5) + BRAWL (3) + SINGLE ACTION (2) - 7 ACCURACY = 6D6 DICE
(1) (4) (1) (4) (4) (4)
Durendal takes aim at Kingdra's neck.
*Snap *
The once raging dragoness collapses on the ground, eye rolled up and her head now bent + dangling at an angling that is nausea inducing and terrifying to see. She's still alive and non-Lethally harmed, but that's just about it.

The sparling night time flyer quickly disengages and returns over to their side of the field, landing on the rain slicked arena and panting from the exertion of pulling of an OHKO move. Never the less, they pulled themselves up and stood tall, showing everyone that he was the proud victor of not only this match, but of the entire Gauntlet. Bulky Water may normally beat Hyper Offensive Ground, but they defied such conventions and pulled out all the stops to win this! To save his friend Arial from a humilating defeat! Its not full repayment for his failure, but it was a grand start towards it indeed!

They did it! They did it!!!

After a long, grueling battle, with many upsets and plenty of drama on and off the battlefield, the winner of The Guantlet was.......

Arial and Durendal!!!

Despite the odds, the madman has done it people! He's proven himself that he's truly as competent as his status of being Reiner's bodyguard implies! This will be a battle that not only he'll remember for a long time to come, but will certainly leave a strong impression with his boss!

Arial and all his Pokémon  that fought in the Gauntlet (Including Durendal) gain 20 XP. He also gains a Will Point, for the defiant spirit that has been kindled throughout the match! Reiner and his Pokemon sent out into the battle gain 10 XP + 2, since they lost and they weren't giving their all as per their master's orders; this was supposed to be test, no an all out battle from their side, after all. Still, they displayed enough cunning within those limitation and suffered enough bad luck to earn a smigen more XP!

The question now was this: How would each side react to the outcome of this climatic end to The Gauntlet?

(question: do the Supports gain that exp too, Windos?)

"...well, that's a surprise Trump Card and an anticlimactic ending if I ever saw one.  Don't think Kingdra is going to be happy about losing to that move after whiffing her own attack..."

He sighs, and a little bit of the weight and tension that he was feeling from having Kingdra out on the battlefield is lifted.

'...at least she didn't go out of control again...that was far too close...she could have started an Outrage at any moment...'

Reiner looks at Durendal.

"...well, congratulations.  Technically speaking, you didn't beat me at my best, but you did still win despite the odds."

Reiner pulls up a chair and sits, recalling Kingdra in the process.  He looks incredibly tired and sad.  He doesn't even have to look at Poe to know he's been scared out of his wits by Kingdra and the subsequent EXPLOSIONS due to the three Draco Meteors.  I do wonder if Ridia's reaction to Kingdra has changed at all after those DMs went off?

"...apologies for that, Poe.  Sometimes I forget how intimidating my closest friend is when she gets into the swing of a battle.  She wasn't always like that..."

Another sigh.

"...Mr. Mime, if you could get everyone who participated in that battle who needs it immediate medical treatment and some towels for everyone still present, please, that'd be much appreciated.  The Rain should be over by the time you return."

Waits for Mr. Mime to leave.

Stares at Arial.  "...now then...you did well to keep me on my toes, but there were several critical errors you made during the course of that battle.  One: You weren't always keeping yourself optimally buffed for the assaults you were trying to mount.  For example, if I remember correctly, Melchior has Iron Defense, which would have made it near impossible for Felicia to break through him without a Nasty Plot, and likely given my other pokemon severe trouble as well.  Make sure to consider everything you can do before fully committing to a chain of Actions.  Two: Also carefully consider what your opponent can do.  If you can correctly account for that, you'll be able to outplay them more easily and nab an advantage.  I wasn't trying particularly hard to do that this time, just so you know.  Three: you made several comments that made me and my pokemon angry.  If I hadn't been purposely holding myself back*, that would have been a grave mistake to make.  If you had done the same to Clair earlier, you likely wouldn't be standing here right now.  Be very mindful of what you say, lest it cost you more than you expected it to.  In order for a battle to not devolve into something far deadlier, both sides have to keep cool heads.  I admit, I could have handled that better myself, but it's a two way street, and I'm not letting you off the hook just because I also screwed up.  I'm certainly impressed that you managed to make even Yang angry, to be honest.  And that's not a good thing.  And if Kingdra had been out when you made one of those very, very specific comments, there is a very, very good chance that this battle would have ended prematurely.  Four: You stretched yourself very thin with your attacks at times.  While it paid off this time, the risk isn't always worth the reward.  Five: If you lose hope partway through the battle, you've already lost, and your pokemon won't wish to continue to give their best for your sake.  I believe you have some apologizing to Sekmet to do later.  Giving up is a last resort option, if it's even an option at all.  Often times, you'll lose more than you gain if you flee."

There's a slightly more notable...edge as Reiner says that part concerning risk versus Reward.

*[OOC comment: ...with a little help/nudging...]

Reiner sighs again.  "...it's safe to say you passed my test admirably, regardless of the outcome of those final few blows and the...mistakes I made myself that I shouldn't have in this environment.  Now then...that brings us to tomorrow's plans.  We have a Nuclear Research Facility to investigate and shut down, as you're probably well aware.  I've made some preparations and called in some favors, and have gotten us legitimate access to it as well as what's hopefully enough supplies to last us during the visit.  Myself, two other individuals, and all of the pokemon between the three are allowed to enter the location unmolested.  If there are any complaints from the guards, all I should have to do is show them a certain 'badge of permission' from someone with enough authority to back that claim up, shall we say.  Steel, Ground, Rock, Nuclear, Bug, Dragon, and Ghost.  Bring those types if you can, and avoid Fairy, Poison, Dark, Fighting, and Normal unless they have one of the more beneficial secondary types or some sort of trait, ability, or item that makes them able to better withstand the accumulation of radiation.  We'll be departing for the NRF following tomorrow afternoon, as I still have one or two preparations I need to make."

He goes silent for a moment...

"...you're dismissed whenever you feel ready to get some rest.  We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow..."

More silence...doesn't look like Reiner plans to leave the room yet, but he's not looking for responses from Arial either. [i.e., I'm not ready to move on to the next day quite yet.  Still have some...other stuff to wrap up.  Arial is free to respond and ask questions if he wishes, but keep in mind that there are topics that Reiner does not want to talk about with Arial]  He's just...sitting there, rubbing his temples.  Maybe ruffling Poe's fur if the little guy is able to forgive Reiner for what happened and wants to try and comfort him.  [Weavile probably isn't going to do much until Arial and Mr. Mime are both out of the room, right?]

Arial listen to everything, absorving every bit of information. He didnt complained about anything since everything what Reiner say is true. Each point Reiner say its indeed the truth: 1 - He really should be more prepare to at least summon some good defences or buffs to raise the chances of survives of his pokemons. Melchior could survive his battle Felicia if he have use it the Iron defence, and perhaps set the up the field for a better advantage against Reiner attacks. 2 - He should at least have find any information about what the foe is capable of do. For example, he should remember the Dragonairs have access to Aqua Jet along with other kinds of Priority moves. Set up a double defence of Wide Guard with Baltazar and Airmid could prevent his pokemon to fall perhaps. She loose that battle because he was fool to not at least search for such kind of information. 3 - Reiner couldnt be more right. Even if Reiner screw up, Arial should at least keep his calm just a little bit. There was than one ocasion Arial almost could die because of his big mouth. If he have in the battle against Clair...he one of his pokemon could die.

4 - He agree with Reiner Arial could lost everything with that disparate and thin attacks. Yeah, he got luck this time, but if next time lady luck decide to abbandon Arial on his most critical moment? As sometimes its necessary risk, foolish risk its not wortly. 5 - That one have a huge weigh on Arial head. He lost hope and will in the middle of the battle, and that lost of confident affect Sekmet too. She gave her best and what I do? I diminiss her work, like was nothing. A pokemon and trainer must have confident in each other, be a Rocket or not. If Arial dont have confidence in himself, how theyre pokemons would believe on a trainer who not believe on himself? Arial gonna apologize and ask for forgiviness for Sekmet.

When Arial raise his head, it do not have any kind of hate or anything. But of understanding. Perhaps Reiner could notice Arial could understand everything he have say? "...You right. About everything. My foes and dangers ahead of us will not take easy on us for now on. Prepare some defences, or at least some buffs, should bring a different outcome during our battle. I should be more wise and well informed about what each pokemon should able to, like Yang Aqua Jet. Baltazar and I could win against him because of the previous Moonblasts who weak win, and Airmid sacrifice with Healing Wish to bring back Baltazar to finish off the battle. I let my anger have the best on me and this almost cost me everything I more dear for. And I risk too much in many of my attacks. Luck will not always on my side, something I should know already. I only win because of preparation I made, with luck, and because it was a test. If you wanted to finish me you have the means for that. And...my defeatist attitude. Even if my chances was small or not, I should not giving up in hope, like I did. Our enemies will not simple "lets us go" because we dont want to fight or do not have the will for that. And may negative mood can affect the mood of my pokemon. As a trainer and Rocket Grunt, this is something unforgivable and inaceptable. And you right: I owe Sekmet a huge apologize and forgiviness for my lack of resolute and for diminimiss her efforts. Despite all the stress I feel during the day, I should not let this emotions have the best on me."

Arial then bow his head and kneel. As a sight of respect and admiration. "All I want to say is: Thank you, for give me the benefit of the doubt and the chance to battle against ya. And forgive me about everything what I say to you. Even a madman like me can understand the gravity of my previous mistakes. Now I understand why you are a powerfull Dragon Tamer and choosen one of Mew itself. I will never have these doubts ever again. I, Arial Copycat Schrundinger of Tandor, I will do my best to be a better bodyguard. And a better ally."

After that Arial look again to Reiner. "Can I...ask a few things Reiner? I do have some questions Reiner. The most important one, it was I make before our match: About the "voice" I have heard before. The one who call you "Little Drake". He seems to know you very well, and strangely...me too. This...something happen to everyone who have contact with these Cursed Arms? I will understand if you dont want to answear this question if you dont in the mood. But I really want to know..."

"Secondly, before we going to the Nuclear Factory, can I buy a few important healing items? At least one revive, a few potions, and perhaps a few items to cure status change such Paralyze heal, Antidote, Burn Heal and maybe Full Heal? Better be prepary than sorry."

"Also, I would like to ask you what pokemons I should with me. Since the pokemons I have in this moment is Empirilla, Xenoqueen, Metalynx, Astronite, Duplicat, Alomola and Carracosta who is in training behavior with Nelly, the Ace Trainer I meet. There is also Gligar, but that last one will be depend on his decision. Speaking of witch..."

"There is also something I would like ask you: I would like to ask you if you could go with me to the Merchant and act as a piecemaker to get a Razor Fang to make Gligar evolve to Gliscor. I want to somehow reward him for the best of his efforts in this final battle and help him evolve to his final form. Only if you can and want of course consideraly the way I act in our battle..."

Wonder in what way Reiner gonna react to these questions.

(Whoosh! Gigant post I have made. How Reiner gonna react to everything what the madman just say @Dragonstrike?)

(Oh yeah, I knew I was forgetting something! They gain 7 XP, since they were not fully participating in the fight and got removed from it at one point in one way or another.)

Kingdra inevitable.....disgruntled reaction to being OHKOed is something that will need to be handled carefully, but given the strong bond between you and the ample experience you have dealing with her rages, you are confident (well, as confident you can be around an angry Dragon, at any rate) you can pacify her.

Durendal gives you a wary look at your somewhat backhanded praise, but inclines their head in a cautious nod. They know it could have just as easily been them passed out on the arena, so it was only proper to their respects to the boss of his buddy.

Quote:Reiner pulls up a chair and sits, recalling Kingdra in the process.

Draco Meteor EXPLOSIONS! Intimidation Rating: Automatic 6 , with a 6 Bonus Dice to add to that.
(6)(3)(5)(6)(5)(6) + 5 = 11 Total Intimidation Score
Poe's Resolve: Will (4) + Fight (5) + Intimidate (1) = 10 Dice
Poe needs to score at least 8 Success not to outright Faint from fright, and 4 Success not to suffer a permanent drop in Happiness.
(3)(3)(5)(2)(5)(5)(3)(6)(1)(1) 3 Successes
Poe has Fainted due to the sheer TERROR from experiencing the raw D R A C O N IC  M I G H T  that was several Draco Meteors going off in rapid succession. Its so horrifying to the Little Bro that his Happiness permanently drops by 1 (Meaning a Ranc Berry or a LOT of time will have to be spent recovering it), as that cataclysmic scene will be forever seared into his memory and haunts his dreams and waking thoughts to come. After seeing what devesating power his master practically had at his finger tips, how could he not become a little more cowed in their presence?

Ridia herself  fretted over her brother's condition after he subsequently passed out before determining he was 'fine' relatively speaking. Her hair was bristling on end, and she took an HIGHLY aggressive and guarded stance towards Kingdra after she recovered from the shock/loud noise of the Draco Meteors, barely restraining herself from Growling at them and provoke them into attack her and her brother with THAT move. Kingdra was no longer just a tasty meal to the street fox, but a BEYOND dangerous threat that must be treated as such!

Its only when the Sea Queen was KOed and recalled that Big Sis relaxed, hair flattening as she shoot Reiner a stern but not altogether unkind look. Unlike with the Electric Terrain fiasco, she understood that he didn't intend for those Draco Meteors to be so.......awe inspiring or Faint her brother, but that didn't make her any less chartibly inclined towards Kingdra; quite the opposite, really. From that stare ,you get the sense that for now on she doesn't want her brother anywhere NEAR Kingdra, nor does she want to EVER work with or interact with them unless the need was dire or until she can confidently handle them should they go out of control. Failure to abide by these unspoken terms will come with penalties, naturally.

(...)

Mr. Mine only nods his head in response, before he collects all the Fainted/Injured Pokémon (all of which are recalled by now) and goes off to have them heal/get the towls. By the time he returns everyone's Pokémon will be fully restored and that conversation between your characters has passed, and the Pokemon will be back in their Trainer's respective possession. The Rain and all the Field Effects should be dissipated by this point as well. He'll then be waiting by the still snack and drink laddened trolly afterwards, awaiting further requests/orders from Reiner until he's dismissed for the night.

(...)

Poe's passed out right now (He'll need the night to recover), but Ridia is available for a rub down and is fine with such. She's still a little grumpy after the events of the Gauntlet transpired, but she's not one to turn down some free comforting grooming (though she tries to hide how much she enjoys it from you).

Once everyone that isn't a part of Reiner's posy has vacated the Training Room, only then does Weavile detach himself from the wall he has been leaning on and paws  on over to his partner. He clasped them on the back in a chummy half hug, and offers to you a rare no smirking smile, one full of fondness and sympathy, and with just a hint of wryness to it. Its been a rough day for them all to put it very lightly, and some frankly terrible things have and will happen as a result.......but it ain't all bad and it isn't all your fault, partner. Bad shit just happens somethings beyond our control, and we just have to roll with the punches best we can. Something that we have plenty of experience with, eh? So chin up, buddy. Things will get better, like they always want do.

Might want to ask at a later point.]

"Buy what you think you'll need.  I've got most of the supplies I'll need, probably.  Not buying any more Nuclear supplies unless you provide the funds for more if you think we're going to need it.  There'll be plenty of time in the morning to get some shopping done."

"Asura's the only one of those that is not going to be having a good time there, period.  Everyone else is at least resistant or can become resistant in some way to radiation with the exception of Airmid.  You seem to be quite well equipped pokemon wise.  Steel and Nuclear obviously perform the best in the environment, but I think we should be able to manage so long as we're careful with the Iodine Tablets I picked up."

Casts another glance at Durendal, then looks back at Arial.  "...I like his moxie, so yes, I'll help with that if he desires to evolve.  Provided you can cough up the funds for a Razor Fang, that is.  Razor items are not commonplace in the slightest, so it'll be pricey no matter how you spin this."

He definitely appreciates the company and the chance to just talk, buddy to buddy.  Even if he's not showing it outwardly.

Reiner's still rubbing down Ridia at the moment.  He knows she's enjoying it, even if she's trying to hide it.  He doesn't say anything while petting her.  Just thinks back to all the good times at home with his mom's Eevee...those were simpler times, that's for sure...

Durendal is actually visibly surprised to hear that THEY had the potential to Evolve, as knowledge and sightings of them in wilds of the Tohjo region are almost unheard of due to the distinct lack of Razor Fang/similar substitutes to act as a catalyst for the species Evolution. Its only in recent times (vaugely a few decades ago or so) when internationalism and open borders between regions became common place, so only well seasoned/knowledgable Trainers , world wide travelers, or those especially well read know about Pokémon not native to their region. Which obviously excludes most Pokémon not clued in in general, though their are always exceptions to the norm.....

The scorpiobat swiftly recovers from their shock and starts vigorously nodding and dancing in place, as the though of becoming EVEN BETTER just tickles their fancy to no end! However, getting a Razor Fang wasn't going to be cheap, since they are just as rare/valuable as Weavile's Evo Item, which you have since looked up to be roughly $5000 Poke. If you got them in region where they were more 'common', $3000 Poke would be the average price there.

"...yes, you can indeed evolve.  I didn't know my dark feline friend over there could evolve either until...maybe roughly a year and a half ago, if I'm remembering things correctly?  Regardless, I did a little looking into that after he evolved, and it turns out Sneasel and Gligar both evolve with what are known as Razor items.  In Sneasel's case, a Razor Claw makes them evolve into Weavile.  And in yours, a Razor Fang will enable you to evolve into Gliscor.  Though you have to hold on to the item for a decent amount of time for it to take effect, normally...anyways, I also found out those items are expensive even in regions they're more common in.  Going price around here is probably around $5000, Arial.  Maybe more, depending on how much the Merchant decides to charge ya for it because of its exclusivity.

Ridia starts to *puuuurrrr* as you scratch THAT spot in particular, before she stops with an briefly aghast expression, as if embarrassed she made such a noise. What in the....?! No, she is not some pansy domesticated Eevee that just melts at the touch of a human, but a wild, fiercely independent fox that has survived on the streets of Celadon ever since she was born! She's a sleeping dragon to be, not some simpering house pet!!!

Never the less, she still enjoyed it despite her vehemence to the idea. Talk about being at odds with one's desires!

Your original partner in crime lets out a raspy chuckle along with you, happy he was able to restore some amount cheer to you, but immediately mirrors your frown as you wax dismally about those old withered crones that ruined their lives. He punches your should a bit harder this time to snap you out of it/get your attention, before he clenched a paw and pumped it in front of you with a downright wicked smirk. Well, part of the reason why they stuck with Team Rocket was to exact some good old revenge and change on those hidebound fools of Blackthorn, so you're now closer to ever than achieving that goal, eh? If not that, then take heart and a little spiteful joy in the fact that The Elder's draconic exile ended up making you into a far bigger threat to there stupid ideas than they could possibly envision, and are forced to acknowledge your prowess and might despite wishing you just ceased to exist! Too little too late for that, though, for they'll be coming to teach those old fools a lesson they'll NEVER forget: Don't mess with Reiner Arendse! Isn't that right, partner?

"...yeah, we're close, Weavile.  Maybe a little too close.  You and Kingdra know better than anyone that I just want to prove them wrong.  Change Blackthorn for the better.  And now that they've sent my own kin after me and it ended...terribly for her...I'm not even sure if that's possible anymore..."

...

"...Weavile, be honest with me.  Do you think we can do this without...becoming exactly what they fear we are?  Because the closer we get, the crazier the circumstances become, and the more I'm afraid that they're right despite everything I do to prove them wrong...*grumble*...even though they're the cause of all this in the first place...Kingdra wouldn't have...if they hadn't...*grumble*..."

Weavile knows that Reiner's referring to when the Elders took the Dragon Scales, followed by Lucy when they went to retrieve the items. [Fun fact: if they hadn't taken the purple Dragon Scale that Jeff shed along with the normal one from Reiner's own Seadra, none of Reiner's tragic story in this campaign would have ever happened.]

Arial get up. "Sorry. Still getting use it the idea of Mew be "she"."

"I have some iods with me too in case any of our pokemon some worry rads. Its not much so its might be a good idea to buy."

"About the item buying there is a suggestion about how to get the money AND have enough to buy a few items. A time ago, I have "take" a Pidgeot a time ago. And that Pidgeot have a nice Pidgeonite with him. I could sell that pokemon for a good price around $10000 - $15000 Poke. I know there is our quota with Team Rocket but its just only this pokemon. I dont have enough money to buy the Razor Fang (I have 3780...). But if we talk with the merchant and you acting as peacemaker I will have enough money to buy the Razor Fang AND buy the medic items we will need on our mission. Pretty please..."
