Heart whistled when he see the Anderind entering the field. "Wow. Now thats a surprise. Anderind. Ice/Ground if I recall. Thats a nice and powerfull offencive combination. A powerfull pokemon to someone who have a Ice team. Nice catch I must say." Heart then decided to call a change. "Unfortanely Iron, I think you will need to return for now. Thats a nasty combination for you." Heart return Alola Geodude and have bring Gustav! "I have imagined you would bring some type of pokemon to counter the types weakness of the Ice-type, so I have bring a pokemon who dont have such thing. In pokemon battles its always important to be at least one or two steps ahead of the foe."

With that say Heart bring his orders. "Alright Gustav! Lets hit hard that foe! First use Swords Dance to increase your might Cannon! Then use Water Pulse 3x! Focus in your water power!"

Swords Dance Accuracy: Dex (4) + Fight (4) + Perform (0) - Actions (4) = 4d6 (Using Will point to make sure Swords Dance will work)
Effect: Increase +2 STR to the user.

Water Pulse Accuracy: Dex (4) + Fight (4) + Canalize (3) - Actions (5/6/7) = 6d6/5d6/4d6
Damage: Power (2) + STR (3) + STAB (1) + SD (2) + SE (1) = 8d6+1
Effect: D3 chance to confuse the foe.

Regardless of the initiative, orders will stay the same.

Anderind: (2) +6 = 8
Gustav: (1) + 7 = 8

Anderind splits the ice, spilling water everywhere and summoning the ground beneath the ice!

(4)(1)(3)(6)(4) Gustav takes 3 dmg. 5/8hp -1 pain.

Gustav is swamped in it. Anderind just goes surfing over the erupted battlefield.

+2 Str for Gustav

Earthquake 2
(3)(3)(5)(4)

The Ghost Pokemon appears, inhabiting a freezer!

Well, to make sure we're off to a strong start and fortune is on our side as much as possible, Gallade will set up a Lucky Chant.

Snivy Coils, and Starmie uses Harden.
They're the ones starting this off, so they'll need to start strong.

I suppose it's time to set the scene and roll out the first few initiatives, then.

You head down to the deepest part of the basement, past many storage rooms. You unlock the "Employees Only" section with the key you are given. Then it's down another hallway to a big steel door with a huge bar across it. You can hear chains rattling, you can hear immense roaring, and you can hear steel being pounded. The door even has a few tiny dents in it.

Through the peephole, you can see Rampardos with giant chains around one foot, hastily put in place. It looks like the roaring and rampaging he's doing right now is just out of habit, he doesn't even look roused or like he's exerting himself. Probably hasn't sensed Nathan.

Rampardos: (4) + 4 Dex + 5 Survival = 13
Snivy: (2) + 10* = 12
Starmie: (1) + 9 = 10

No no, you have to put the two items in the Chandeliers before the battle can begin.

Riolu: (6)
Terra: (2)

Riolu growls - playfully? and lowers into a combat stance.

If you'd like to do this as opposed Grapples using Riolu's own stats instead of yours, we could do that. Or something else of your choice.

Heart have returned Gustav. "You did a great out there my friend. Rest well my friend." With that Heart returned his vivid cannon. He feel pretty confident with this battle. But he did not let his guard down. After all, you should understimated a Gym Leader. They always have a Plan B in their hands. "I agree my friend. I think this battle is far from over. Caesar! Come to me hold friend!" With that say, Heart bring his poison bunny. "I have something cool to show you Zamboni. Something you will not believe." With that say Heart bring his order. "Caesar! Use Double Kick! Two times!"

Double Kick Accuracy: Dex (4) + Fight (4) + Brawl (3) - Actions (4/5/6/7) = 7d6/6d6/5d6/4d6
Damage: Power (2) + STR (3) + SE (1) = 5d6+1
Effect: Double Action

So? Then with MUCH stretching of her arm that doesn't hold Delphox's wand a Chesto Berry and a Paralyze Heal are placed in each chandelier.

(I rather we have a straight fight with Rilou using his own stats!)

Once Anubi ready, not a second later Terra leaps forwards to engage them, using their immense Strength to hurtle himself straight towards the blue bomber as opposed to pure Dexteroius Speed like Nathan! He quickly aims to Knock them down, before landing a few clean Strikes to their tiny torso!

Order: Terra will try to Knock Anubi down first, before aiming 2 Strike straight into their stomach! Simple, quick, and clean!

Moves:

Knock Down and Strike
Accuracy: DEX (2) + Fight (5) + Brawl (2) - 3/4/5 Actions = 6/5/4D6 Dice
Damage: STR + 0 for the Knock Down, and STR + 1 for the Strike!
Effect: - 1 Accuracy on Rilou for the KD, but no Effect on the Strike

Gallade steadfastly and quietly watches the scene at the fountain, too.  When Terra's ready to go, he simply nods, takes Terra's hand, and...

*blip*

Gallade's still carefully eyeing Riolu with crossed arms during the Test of Mettle.  There's likely a chance he might step in if Terra gets in a bit of a bind against Riolu.  He doesn't think Terra will be in any trouble, but it pays to be cautious.

And he's also semi-interested in seeing how Riolu fights.  The Riolu line does bear more than a few similar capabilities to Gallade as a species, after all...similar Abilities, talents for reading emotions and actions that they can use to their advantage in battle...

--------
Terra gets a response back after the Test of Mettle is finished.

On my way.

(Might have to flash back to this depending on how the ToM goes.  The end result is that Nathan picks up Gallade for the fight with Rampardos no matter what, though!)

(Note: Unlike Quiver Dance, Coil doesn't increase Dex, so Snivy's initiative is actually 11, unfortunately.  Increasing Accuracy by 1 is almost as good as +1 Dex, though.  But not quite.)

That'll change as soon as Nathan opens that door, probably.  Unless he can do this really quietly and quickly.

Well, it's worth a shot, right?  Rampardos doesn't know they're here yet, so it's time to try an ambush if opening the door doesn't ruin it immediately.

It's time to rock and rumble!

Gym Leader Zamboni vs Heart Round 3

Caesar: (5) + 7 = 12
Frost Rotom: (5) + 6 = 11

Rotom fixes the arena, then turns to blast Caesar with cold power!

Inside his industrial ice-smoothing machine, Rotom is vulnerable to fighting attacks!
Double Kick 1 & 2
(5)(2)(4)(4)(4)(2)(4) Critical hit
(6)(2)(5)(3)(6)(2)
(6)(1)(6)(1) Rotom takes 2 dmg
(4)(1) Rotom takes 2 dmg 3/7hp -2 pain.

Rotom ignores his pain penalization!

Blizzard
(6)(2)(1)(4)(5)
(6)(2)(4)(3)(3) Caesar takes 2 dmg
Freeze: (6) Caesar was frozen solid!

Caesar is raging within the ice, kicking at it some more! He bursts from the ice and delivers one more kick to Rotom.

Double Kick 3 & 4
(3)(6)(5)(2)
(3)(4)(5) - 1 hit
(4)(6) Rotom takes 3 dmg and faints!

"Three rounds, three outs! That's how you know you're up against a strong trainer! Congratulations, Heart!!"

Heart earns $400. Each of Heart's Pokemon gain 6Xp. Heart gains 9Xp.

"And here is the Glass Badge - holographic and speedy and slippery like ice!" This badge increases Dex by 0.5 - you'll need Tanuki's badge to gain the full benefit.

"I don't know if you know this or not, but victorious challengers earn a victory lap!" Skates rise up out of the arena, which was freshly paved by Rotom. "Let's have some applause for Heart as he takes a well-earned victory lap. He's moving on to the big leagues, I hope!"

Gym Leader Chuckles vs Shiva Round 1

It's hard to keep track of Chuckles' Pokemon, in this room that is perfectly suited to them.

Shiva sees Mismagius lift a wand that almost looks like it's made out of a piece of the house itself.

"Mismagius and I have been practicing his elemental spells..."

Power Gem 1 on Yena
12* Canalize dice -5 actions = 7d6
(6)(3)(6)(4)(3)(3)(1)
(4)(3) Yena takes 1 dmg 7/8hp

Copycat 1 - I couldn't find any versions of Copycat in the game history where I used the opponent's dice pool. I think the intent is to use like Canalize/Brawl of whatever the copied move is. Maybe I ruled otherwise later but I couldn't find it.
9 Canalize dice -3 actions = 6d6
(4)(2)(3)(1)(4)(6)
(5)(3) Mismagius takes 1 dmg 7/8hp

Ice Punch 1 on Mightyena
10 Brawl -1 acc -4 actions = 5d6
(5)(3)(1)(3)(5)
(4) Yena takes 1 dmg 6/8hp -1 pain
Flinch: (4)(4)
Freeze: (6)(2)
Yena ignores the Ice Punch with Shield Dust!

"Oh?"

Swagger 1
(1)(3)(6) + (6*)
+2 Str, -3 accuracy debuff, Confused for Spinda

"How clever..."

Power Gem 2
(2)(3)(1)(5)(5)(3)
(5)(4) Yena takes 2 dmg as another gleaming brown light comes from Mismagius' wand. 4/8hp -2 pain.

Feint Attack 2
(1)(3)(1)
Insight: (5)(3)(5)
Shiva's leadership is enough to get Spinda back on track and ensure the move never misses.
(4)(4)(1)(3) Mismagius takes 3 dmg 4/8hp -2 pain

"Dusknoir, you're not being targeted. It's safe to sacrifice your life force."

Curse 2
(4)(3)(4)(3)(2)(4)
(5)(6)(5)(3)(3) Dusknoir takes 3 dmg 8/11hp -1 pain
Mightyena was cursed! He seems much less sure of himself, looking to Shiva way more often than is necessary.

Crunch 2
(1)(3) + (1*)(1*) Miss.

Power Gem 3
(5)(6)(3)
(3)(3) No damage for Yena.

Feint Attack 3
(1)(6)
(4)(4)(3)(1) Mismagius takes 3 dmg 1/8hp -3 pain

"The rat will require special attention. Finalize the ruination of the hound."

Ice Punch 3
(4)(1)
(5) Mightyena takes 1 dmg 3/8hp -2 pain

Crunch 3
Not enough dice with Curse and Pain.

Power Gem 4 - Mismagius overcomes the pain. You can see Chuckles grimace as he takes the pain onto himself!
(4)(4)(3)(2)
(1)(1) No damage for Yena.

Power Gem 5
(1)(5)(2)
(6)(3) Yena takes 1 dmg 2/8hp -2 pain

"You're doing well. The psychology of placing certain restorative items that discourage me from my infamous strategies...using Swagger on your own Pokemon...choosing your targets carefully... I'm enjoying this fight. Please continue."
