(Before I forget here is some music to fire up this volcano-side training session)

Yawn:
Accuracy: Dex+Fight+Canalize-3 Actions= 8D6
Damage: none
notes: puts target to sleep next round unless switched out

Smog:
Accuracy: Dex+Fight+Canalize-3-3Actions=4D6 (ouch)
Damage: Special+1= 3D6
notes: Held back, 4cd poison

Rock Slide:
Accuracy: Dex+Fight+canalize-1-3Actions=5D6
Damage= Strength+3= 4D6
notes: held back, 3cd flinch

mechanics: after battle if Magcargo is poisoned, Spira will offer to use a Full Heal on it.

Magcargo Round 1

Yawn 1 on Magcargo
(1)(1)(6)(4)(4)(2) (6)(5)
Magcargo became drowsy!

The Yawn is contagious. Magcargo yawns too.

Yawn 1 on Hida.
(4)(1)(1)(6)(2)(4)
Hida became drowsy!

Smog 2
(5)(2)(2)(3)
(2) No damage
CD: (5)(4)(5)(2)

Magcargo sends tendrils of magma into the earth and awakens the spirit of the stones making up the volcano. They spring to life long enough to surround Hida, smacking him on the edge. This is a held back attack because he could have driven those stones right into Hida's body.

Ancient Power 2
(5)(5)(3)(4)(3)
(6)(1)(3) + 1 = 2 /2 = 1 dmg
Hida takes 1 dmg 7/8hp
CD: (6) +1 to all Magcargo's stats!

Rock Slide 3
(6)(5)(6)(1)(2)
(2) No damage.
CD: (3)(3)(4) Magcargo doesn't flinch, but he's yawning a lot. He crashes to the ground, and the ancient stones break off and slide down on Hida.

Rock Slide 3
(4)(3)(5)(3)
(5)(6)(1)(6) +1
Hida takes 2 dmg 5/8hp -1 pain
CD: (5)(4)(3)

Round 2
Both Pokemon fall asleep! The other two Magcargo laugh.

The Insight rolls are based on how many actions are in a turn. So either we can assume since it's a spar that they'll both wake up at the same time and resume sparring, or I need you to declare how many actions you're using each turn.

I let Spira do that because Ghost Pokemon is his thing. But Eevee are kind of Shiva's thing so I'll allow it. It really has to be a situation where it would make sense that a Pokemon might join you. And I'll probably cap the Insight + Empathy at 10 dice, since Will for a normal Pokemon can't be above 10.

(Once Shiva has managed to win the pair of Gym Badges that'll grant +1 Insight, her attempts to convince a wild Pokemon will consist of a dice pool of 10 naturally, equal to the 'Mon's will. o.o A pretty cool thought - I feel that matches her personality and intentions well, and I enjoy outplaying such scenes. Though does it border to 'overpowered' or is that within range? Maybe it can be reasoned as a part of her more-than-human status.)

Quote:Primal Eevee likes to play fetch, likes to dig, likes hide-and-seek and tag and the other games Shiva suggests. And it's always very curious and...adaptable. Eevee is one of the few Pokemon who can survive and enjoy any situation.

Having such an enjoyable casual time with this strange and in-so-may-ways-special Eevee was a wonderful way for Shiva to forget about the tension and fear of the expected meteor impact - 'forget' was maybe not the right way she'd describe it though, 'the unpleasant thoughts being put aside a little' would match it more. She's cautious to not show anything about that on the outside to prevent unnecessarily worrying Eevee or similar.

All these antics and acrobatics with him were fun, but the real deal was when he expressed no objections to stick with this weird 'human', with much curiosity he sniffed on that redwhite ball-thingie before wagging his tail in excitement. Her very own and special Primal Eevee here from the Ice Age... This was almost too good to believe, while holding the occupied Pokeball close to her heart Shiva silently sends more words of honest thanks to Celebi. This wouldn't be possible without this psychic Mythic legend benelovence! What her intentions were Shiva was still unsure about and could only theorize, but she's feeling blessed that she was able to encouter her down there in the hall of Atheneum.

That's the 12th Pokemon in Shiva's party if Eggs count, lolz. Summoning Primal Eevee again to spend a little more time with him, a ton of questions race through her mind:

- What do Primal Eevee eat normally? She'd doubt there are many Berries in the taiga, maybe he lets her take a look at his teeth once to get a guess.
- What distinguishes the Primal Form from Modern Eevee, how has it developed from one to another?
- Changes in behaviour/lifestyle?
- Are there Primal Eeveelutions? How may they look like??
- Is trying to mate Primal Eevee with a Modern Eevee a thing, has the Primal form a more stable gene pool or not?

... And so on and on.

Well, there's only one way for her to find out, and despite Shiva can already guess that this would be a longshot project, she's enjoying this thought. Especially since this Primal Eevee seems to have taken a liking on her and is giving off an impression of not being a weakling if it comes to the art of Pokemon Battling. The only issue she'd have if presenting her reports and research would be to explain HOW she managed to obtain a real and vivid Primal Eevee in the first place... Even if she'd be honest about that, she doubts anyone would believe or be able to follow her. ...But, with a determined and delightful smile, she lets that be a worry for another day.

She eventually returns to the campsite with her newest companion, takes the same place she has occupied last night already to continue observing the sky for any hints of the incoming meteor impact. It's rather strange to her that she isn't able to sense even the smallest tension related to that expected collision in the surroundings - if one didn't know, one would completely miss that. All her sensitive Pokemon stay out by her side for now as the hours pass, at the forefront Lilith, Delphox, Comite, maybe Raphael. Dizzy of course is among them as well. Shiva's sure that the closer they are getting to the expected collision, the more she'll be alerted by him and Lilith. Her own tension and fear returns now - as well does her blatant HOPE that here, where they currently were, they were safe from serious harm by the impact.

Shiva's also insecure whether Primal Eevee would be up to see the expected impact - she'd guess no?

--------------------
Mechanics:
End of my Encounter! For now Shiva won't do anything but to wait for the expected impact to actually happen, doesn't want to miss such an event. My party stays the same, no changes on that.

Flame Burst 1
The attack splashes harmlessly against the Magcargo leader. (the other two are safely back, watching). With Ancient Power and his typing, there's no way this attack can deal him any damage.

Magcargo decides this doesn't feel like enough of a spar, and ups the ante a little with a Body Slam. He's pretty beefy for a Magcargo and he hasn't even stopped growing.

Body Slam 1
(6)(5)(4)(5)(5) Critical hit! Hida is almost smothered by the bigger Pokemon, who has to roll off quickly to avoid glomping Hida out of existence.
(4)(2)(4)(4)(6) Hida takes 2 dmg 3/8hp -2 pain.
CD: (4)(5)(6) Hida is paralyzed! -2 Dex, changing initiative.

Rock Throw 2
(4)(1)(1) Miss!

Rock Slide 2
(3)(5)(3)
(3) Hida is getting good practice in with his accuracy, but he's sure not scratching this primeval Magcargo.
CD: (6)(1)(1) Magcargo flinches 3.

When Hida reached 2hp, I was going to have Magcargo pause and see if the little guy had had enough. Since it's the end of a round, he'll go ahead and give you that chance now.
He doesn't really ask Spira, he asks Hida, but then Hida looks to his trainer to see. He's moving very slowly, having been flattened and hit with several super effective attacks (even if they were held back). He's feeling a little disheartened by his inability to hurt Magcargo so far - he'll probably want either a change of strategy or a surrender.

Some of those questions Shiva can answer right away.

It definitely looks like Primal Eevee is a meat eater. Even obligate carnivores can eat Berries, since Berries are just packed with energy and a little Earthpower.

You know Primal Eevee to be less genetically stable. As the geography of Creshire underwent drastic changes in this time of free-ranging Legendaries and gigantic Pokemon, the incredible adaptability of Primal Eevee was a minor advantage. In more temperate times, it's a big disadvantage to spend half your life learning to be a Glaceon and then suddenly becoming a Leafeon because you ventured too close to a Moss Rock.

Modern Eevee are elusive, shy, and they'll flee/debuff rather than fight. This Primal Eevee doesn't know as many debuff moves and you doubt it can ever have Run Away instead of Adaptability.

It's possible that bred Eevee will retain Primal Eevee's extra size, which is not a Surprise but more of a species-level thing.

Eevee can't conceive of something like a meteor impact.

Mawile is pointing down her fake throat, where you can see she's bitten her gums during the fight with Shiranui. It's very similar to her "feed me!" gesture.

Here are the rolls once Heart agrees.

Realizing that there isn't much that Hida can do to the Magcargo, Spira says "Great job Hida, but that's enough, come back." He then talks to the lead Magcargo, "Thank you for the chance to test Hida's skills, I appreciate it."
