That Sudowoodo must have been very concentrated on their 'Me is not a Pokemon, me is a tree~!'- shenanigans, maybe they have already developed roots. Either way, they are blocking the path, so it's THEIR fault that they get fainted now! It's nothing personal, Shiva just wishes to get the job done properly. "Alright, Gloom, this will likely be a quick battle, nothing too challenging. Please show me and your opponent a graceful dance enveloped in raging petals!"
She hasn't yet seen that Diggersby in Terra's care, so now she stares at the glittering sparkles it leaves behind. "Whoahw, Terra, where did you got that shiny rabbit from? :o "
Seeing Shiva's having so much gusto for the fight against the piece of petrified wood brings a slight smile to his face, followed by a small nod. From what he's heard/read about her, that sort of confidence was not always present within the fae woman or squireled away deep within her, so it being there and put on center stage was always a good thing in his opinion!
Her comment on his lucky lagomorph's origins gets her a quick response, his attention unwavering from the battle: "Caught them in the Safari Zone. Tried to bury me alive, but didn't work. We are good friends now." That it, really!

(3)(4)(6)(1)(4) Sudowoodo takes 4 dmg 3/10hp -2 pain
Stone roots pop out of the ground like cypress knees, knocking Gloom off his stubby feet.
Stone Edge 1

Hammer Arm 2
(5)(1)(4)(4)(3)
Sudowoodo faints! Its supple body doubles over where the Hammer Arm landed. The miners stuff the giant treelike Pokemon in a cart and shuffle it off.
"Sometimes we sell these Pokemon, or put them to work after some training. Other times we just release them into the wild, like we're going to do with this one. He's tough enough to take care of himself, I think."
The fight was worth 12XP total.
You move onward. A channel in the ground carries water which washes away effluvium and lets the miners pan for evolutionary glass. You can see a little sparkling in the water.
"We get all kinds of evolutionary glass here, even though Sunstones are the most common. The occasional piece of Meteoric Superconductor, too. But here's the problem: something's been blocking the stream, causing floods. It's down through this tunnel right here, but it growls and stomps and produces a horrendous stench. Will you go take care of it, please? We'll, uh, we'll wait out here."
The men all retreat to the buggy.
(04-08-2019, 01:33 PM)PhantomUnderYourDesk Wrote: In the heat of the battle, a high-pitched screech pierces through the scenery, it's Shiva's startled voice. "Gloom, NOOOO! Σ(°△°|||) " She's half-way to rush forward to her poisonous(!) Grass Type as the pointy stones stab him from below, but she ceases immediately as she realizes that Gloom bravely continues to fight against this not-a-tree-Pokemon. She changes her attitude right away: "That's the right way, dear one, please keep going! You're doing well, concentrate, your foe's almost down!! Come on, you can do it!!!~"
Yessss, and Shiva celebrates as that suprisingly bulky Sudowoodo is defeated and carried away, but she's very thrown off-track over the insight that they'll release this 'Mon again: Well, actually that's very noble and kind, but in this situation she thinks it might be better to capture this Sudowoodo and either train it to help mining or trade it to someone who will care for it, as otherwise it will block the road over and over again in a never-ending circle. Oh, not that Shiva dares to even speak a bit about these thoughts of her out, no way. >o<;
She rushes over to Gloom and carefully picks him up, in this moment all of her worries about being close to a Poison Type are thrown away. "It's okay, it's okay, it's over, dear one... Now, let me see those wounds you suffered - ayyeee." She shakes her head and holds Gloom very close to her beating and sensitive heart. "Shhh, calm down, don't panic - It's all fine. Look, you've got that Angelic Feather; yes, hold it very close to you. Delphox, come, please cast a melodic chant of luck for Gloom." Shiva will humm in sync with her magical fox for a bit.
"Look, there's dust of Sunstones everywhere - concentrate, concentrate, can you feel it? It's there, yes, you just cannot see it with your visible eye. Soak it up, suck it, any sparkling of evolutionary glass and any life force around into you with Giga Drain. Imagine vividly before your inner eye how this sooths the pain, how this empowers and reenergizes you - take deep breaths, yes, exactly like this..."
-------------------
Mechanics:
Okay, is this enough to trigger a Stability Check that uses Insight instead of Dext? We agreed that if doing a different thing than the standard first aid/something 'unusual', this is reasoned. Shiva's mostly doing psychic suggestion in combination with a calming Lucky Chant to encourage Gloom to use the surroundings in combination with Giga Drain, which naturally saps vigor, to ease the pain.
(So split between our charas and Pokemon, that's 3XP for Shiva/Terra, and 6XP each for S.Diggersby and Gloom!)
The mountain of a man's spirits were high when the combined assault from his burrowing bunny and Shiva's smelly plant nearly Fainted Sudowoodo right then and there, but his expression immediately harden into diamond toughness when it managed to retaliate with a viscous Stone Edge, prompting him to growl out in distinct displeasure at them.
" You will regret that, Sudowoodo. Diggersby, pound them flat."
Low and behold, his partner followed throw with the command with a surly indignation of his own, as he too didn't like his co-worker getting so badly maimed for just trying to make them git. Sure, he could sympathize with the faux plant's desire to defend their turf, but they've gone too far and done *#$!%& up now!
Later, Terra made sure to give S.Diggersby a pat on the head for a job well done, as he liked the performance they put on! Simple as that!
The miner telling them that Sudowoodo was just going to be released as it was being carted away earned the man a stern frown and comment from the sagely monk, as unlike the mystical lass he didn't have nearly as much reservation/social grace to keep his opinions to himself.
"Bad idea. Sudowoodo are territorial, so it may come back later and cause problems. Better to catch and sale or trade it."
He stares downs the work(ers) with arms crossed, firmly conveying his thoughts on the matter. Whether or not they listen is up to them, but he hopes they do!
Afterwards, he immediately goes over to his whimsical friend's side and gently places a hand on her shoulder to get her attention, looking at her with attentive concern as he pulled out a Hyper Potion and Sitrus Berry and motioned with them at Gloom.
"Gloom okay, Shiva? Injuries look bad, but have medicine to treat them, if you want. They will be okay, so do not worry....."
(...)
Concerning the odious blockage that was impeding the miners , Terra looked down to his colorful critter at his side with a faint inquisitiveness as he gestured in the direction the obstacle was in.
" Diggersby, can you tell if.......thing damming stream Pokemon or not? Can you track and Dig underneath it?"
Orders: Offer Medical Supplies for Gloom's recovery if they are needed/wanted, and have S.Diggersby do his own detective work, followed by them tracking down whatever is causing the miners problems and Digging it right out from under it! Onwards we go, troubleshooting is our goal!

(Now for what I was planning!)
"Go for one of those Dusk Stones in the ceiling!"
Mechanics: Nubi goes for a Dusk Stone in the ceiling, if it is indeed the evolutionary stone, things will start to really get interesting!
It's real! As Nubi gets closer and closer, he starts glowing! The gym gets a little brighter as the strength of multiple Dusk Stones dim, increasing the balance in favor of Sunstone and light.
-1 to Howl's noncombat skills, including Intimidate!
And Nubi grows a bit, his hair merges into a pointier shape, and his gems shift to take on some of the nature of the Dusk Stone!
Congratulations! Your Misdreavus evolved into Mismagius!
Oh, and Nubi should also have eaten that Berry, giving him +2 Effective HP from evolution and berry. Now at 5/9hp.
Nubi is now a little Disloyal, but by the end of this battle he should have improved his faith in Spira some.

*rolls* Not right now for Gloom, though. Since Cottonee wasn't out, she won't get the chance, which is probably what you want anyway.
Yes, if Cottonee suddenly would be to evolve now, that'd mess us my planned evolution scene completely. :< Gloom can evolve if he likes though, or maybe not because Shiva will withdraw him after this scene for rest.

Shiva shrieks a bit as Terra's hand touches her shoulder, suggestion needs a lot of concentration from the one performing it. Luckily though, the train of thought didn't break and everything worked out fine, as that nasty bleeding has stopped thanks to the healthy surroundings. Healthy surroundings for certain Pokemon that is, Shiva coughs a bit from all that dust dancing in the light of the lanterns.
Still holding Gloom very close to her in her arms - she, eh, is actually suprised about herself that she's not in the slightest afraid about his poisonous traits (' My dear, that may be because this poisonous Gloom is YOUR OWN Pokemon', her inner voice singsangs) - , Shiva turns towards Terra and gives him a assuring nod and faint smile. "It's okay, look, he's doing better. But, ah, if you're really okay with it, I gladly accept this Sitrus Berry - yes, thank you. How dear of you, aww!~" She puts it gently into Gloom's stubby arms. "Here you go, please eat this, while the taste is a bit tangy it'll do wonders if consumed after a painful experience. Let me also use this on you to fully restore your vitality, 'kay? It MAY sting a bit, but it's much better afterwards."
With the Sitrus Berry from Terra and the Potion from Shiva (the one Foreman Fortescue handed out), Gloom's lethal damage is fully healed!~ Shiva will recall him into his Ball for now to rest.
That tromping noise is giving Shiva chills, and the sound of metal gives her double. She instinctively steps a bit closer to Delphox who radiates warmth and comfort, and also provides light. "Terra, whatever is down there... It sounds and feels like a biiig Pokemon, but there doesn't seem to be any way around it, they asked us to deal with it. I guess we...must engage it in a battle and defeat it, now that all the miners are off it'd be best if we'd also catch it, wouldn't you say?" A telling break follows in which Shiva's originally insecure stance slowly developes into a bold and unafraid one: " .....I am ready when you are."
But before that: " Delphox, can you please cast another chant for us? We could use fortuna's blessing against that 'thing'. Yes, exactly, try to stay away from the water." Glaceon however is intrigued by said stream or what is left of it at the moment, he splashes a bit in it with a paw as if trying to catch these sparkles. As Shiva adresses him though, he stops playing and perks up. " Please reinforce your willpower with a hearty howl, dear one, we need to approach whatever is blocking this stream."
( If rolls are needed for these buffs before a likely fight, it's 10d6 both for Delphox's Lucky Chant and Primal Glaceon's Howl.))

Lethal Damage is not healed so easily as nonlethal. A Sitrus Berry and a Potion each heal only 1 Lethal damage. Your medicine check simply stops it from getting worse.
And in this case, you won't be able to buff yourselves up ahead of time, because you can't reach the battlefield without subjecting yourself to the Pokemon's attacks.
