Happy Labour Day here.

Oh, that battle against Angela has just become more interesting now that poor Whimsi got frozen :O Right, I accidently missed that Flash would too get that Prankster Bonus, sorry for that.

Okay, Alola Ninetales is at 2/8HP and first in Init Order, Whimsicott at 7/8HP and can still be healed with a Potion. I can still win this, I see several potential ways to free her from the ice, which one do you think would work best/would work at all, @Iron? I'm up to spent a Will Point to make sure the chosen way succeeds for sure.
  • I bet it'd be against the rules to summon Raphael and order a held back Aura Sphere to break the ice. Flash and Dazzling Gleam are just light without warmth, these moves can't do anything in this case.
  • Have Shiva chip in and break the ice in a Trainer Action with a well-places Strike empowered by Delphox's Charcoal or burning wand, I'd guess you can still take an Item from a fainted 'Mon. This puts Shiva at risk to be targeted by Ninetales, which is a risk she'd take. However, either outright illegal or at least in a grey area I guess.
  • Use Cotton Guard again, not to raise defenses even more, that wouldn't work anyway, but instead to increase in size even more in order to shatter the ice just enough for Whimsi to perform actions she doesn't need to move much for, like lifestealing. After the battle the ice can be broken completely.
  • Raise up a Tailwind, but not to bring more Dext to Whimsi but instead to blow her against a nearby tree or (better) rock to break the ice upon clashing. Will probably hurt her a bit, which I'm down with if it will definitely work as intended.
  • Order a Grass Pledge, but instead to ask the vegetation to grapple anyone nearby, ask it to smack Whimsi to break the ice trapping her. With the dwelling Lucky Chant said to make good things happen, I feel this can certainly work.

I prefer the Grass Pledge Solution, with the Tailwind one as second choice as I feel these have the best odds to work at the lowest danger and even go first thanks to Whimsi's prankful nature. More suggestions are welcome if anyone has some.

Only the Pokemon who is fighting and approved Trainer items can be allowed to affect the battlefield, so 1 and 2 are out. Whimsicott can't use actions, so 4 and 5 are out. At the end of the Round you can make a Strength roll (2 successes needed). Since for Shiva, Strength is a measure of her cunning and power as a trainer, using Cotton Guard to floof up and break the ice is a really awesome idea. It will still be just a Strength roll though. You can do it at the end of the current Round and again if you survive the upcoming attacks.

Does that Strength Roll come with any penalties? I don't have access to the corebook at the moment to check.
Either way, that leaves only the Cotton Guard Solution. Can I use a Will Point to add an automatic success to the 2 needed ones?

No penalties, and yes you can use a Will Point.

Great, thanks!~ Then I'll spent 1 Will Point to add an unremovable success to the CottonGuard-Strength Roll at the End of the current Round, only one needs to be rolled now. Lucky Chant is still active and a seed of Juni's Sceptile that Shiva once collected is used as soon as Whimsi falls to half her HP, it'll bring her to 8/8HP again. Actions after being hopefully thawed are 4 Giga Drains, she only needs to inflict 2 points of damage to faint Ninetales!

I gotta go, sorry that I can't give a proper post with dice pools at the moment! But I don't want to stall things either.
EDIT: Okay, that went faster than believed. Post incoming.

You know, its dialogue like this that makes me glad that Ventus is well and truly out of the plot. He'd probably be.....upset at the fae Gym Leader for so casually stating such a thing to him (to put it mildly) if he ever meet and properly talked with her. He'd be civil/restrained enough in order to battle her and gain the badge, but would promptly leave and never want to see/speak with her again. Perhaps doing other things too, if she riled him up badly enough. I'm so glad that I don't have to deal with such a mess.

I spared mentioning that the words made Shiva think of what happened with Ventus' mother to not ruin the moment of victory. I eh, somewhat feel that Angela's insightful enough to know or at least assume that the sociologist has an 'interesting' opinion on Fairy Types, which sweetens the fact that he fell for a natural fae enthusiast even more. ...I'll stop now. ^_^;

Angela may be extremely Insightful, but she is not a people person, as has been made rather abundantly clear at this point.  From her implying she was still somewhat miffed that Shiva caught 'her' Gloom (which I'm very surprised Shiva didn't really react to at all) to her recent scathing laughter and nightmare inducing ending remark during Shiva's gym battle, Angela can be just as cruel as the Fairies she trains. She can be sweet as well, but most of that side of her is reserved for her pokemon.

Nathan is aware of this IC, and has thankfully managed to avoid the worst of it (unlike Shiva and Spira).  He also knows a select few other interesting facts about the resident Fairy type Gym Leader.
