[Game Thread] Pokerole: Mount Coronet Mystery

"Ah yes, Karen and Kogeki.  Much like yourself, Lucas recommended I hire Karen.  He's a good judge of character in my professional opinion, and I'd be ill advised to ignore his advice.  Lucas was only 10 when he ascended Mount Coronet for the first time, so I have no reason to believe age to be a hindrance, young or old, so long as one is of an age where they are able to go on an adventure in the first place.  As for Kogeki, he's been working for me as a bodyguard for some time now.  I have faith in his skills, and plenty of reason to trust he'll get the job done.  If that is all, then we are done here.  I trust you'll get this job done as well."

Once Karen finishes off her tea, she addresses Kee (@PhantomUnderYourDesk); "Thanks, this whole shebang has me nervous, I can't imagine how you must feel, considering you're probably not even in your own dimension."

Ah. In some sort of response, Kee goes ┐( ̄ヘ ̄; )┌ "I dunno how to feel 'bout that either. Let's seeeeeeee...." He throws his head back, " There's sadness, confusion, a feeling of being lost and otherwise cripping emptiness. Like, not knowing how to deal with this mess. But, I'll get over it eventually, I guess?" More to himself he adds a quiet "I was just hoping that life's peaceful at last, but meh."

He gives Karen a timidly thankful look+smile, appearantly appreciating the sympathy. He doesn't know whether he deserves any, but it's still nice to get some.

"Oh, I know. I'm just choosing not to with you, Rowan. "

Cool and heated is Randolph's tone, it is.

"*Scoffs, shaking his head* Of course you'd think that little kiddie winks are fit for this sort of grueling odyssey, or wandering around Sinnoh without much supervision for that matter. Just cause a child CAN pull off herculean task or CAN go on epic journeys doesn't mean they should or should be expected to, Rowan. This region, the entire world, and the children themselves would be greatly better off if they ever got that idea through collective thick skull and was made to wait until they're grown before they're allowed to own a Pokemon, much less go out and try to make a name for themselves, like that even matters. Some psychological and background checks for a Trainer would also be a nice thing to implement, as that'd likely cut down on all the wanna and actual crook and terrorist groups 'n Teams that seem to pop up like Diglets every half decade or so. "

*Shakes head*

"...But none of that ain't gonna happen anytime soon, will it? Not until something fucks up in a major and MONUMENTAL way that necessitate it, anyway. Isn't that lovely? *Sighs, and mumbles* This whole world is warped and cracked, and I'm one of the sorry few that can see that. Verdammt noch mal .... "

He doesn't have anything else to say about Lucas' recommendation , nor about about the good professor's faith in Kogeki (Even though it doesn't address why they didn't do anything about their missing arm, when they probably had the means and/or awareness to fix it), so the dwarven craftsman gets down to leave them to other matters, but not before saying this parting remark:

"You don't have to trust anything, Rowan. I'll get it done, or die trying to. You've may of damned me and the others by luring us into this godawful mess, but that won't stop me now from seeing it through to the bitter, bitter end."

Then he's gone, off to do everything he was going to do/try to do before Rowan railroaded him into this (in his opinion) utterly and cruelly pointless shakedown (I'll link that post with all that stuff in the Meta Thread ASAP). He's still go stuff to do this evening before he could rest, and by Heatran he'll get it done.

Going to keep all of this as brief as I can since there's a lot to get through.

Kee and Karen weren't doing anything in particular tonight before turning in iirc.

Regardless, we can take care of any last minute preparations before we begin the trip to Mt. Coronet.

It is now Day 3.  (Every trainer gets 1 heartbeat exp and every character, pokemon and human, regains 1 Will)

Weather: (5)(5) That's on the upper end of the spectrum, so there are no weather effects currently active in Snowpoint City today.  It's still perpetually hailing on Routes 216 and 217, however.

Nurse Joy hands Randolph a package in the morning, and has some news to accompany it.  "The postman just arrived.  He seemed rather spooked about something, but I couldn't quite figure out what he was talking about.  Something about Route 216 being haunted or something.  Usually, the rumors I hear concern Route 217 instead, where there's an old, abandoned cabin that nobody except reckless teenagers wants to go near, so I'm rather confused.  Regardless, be careful if you're headed out that way.  I don't need another group of trainers that are on the verge of catching frostbite walking into my Pokemon Center today. Or tomorrow."

That's right, everything he did has already been adressed. His sleep was thankfully peace- and fruitful as he definitely needed some rest, but Kee still hates getting up early with all his guts - 9am totally is early for him as he's used to be active during night hours - but he has stuff to do and can't afford sleeping in today. His mood is still equal to Grumpy Meowth until morning's cup of tea, but at least it doesn't hail today.

Now, Abilities!~
- After Kee managed to get some order into his own long hair, he takes extraordinairily much time to brush Octavia, means more time than usually. Not that she minds, she highly appreciates the care and sees it at bonding time, which it actually subliminally is. She purrs fondly and showers him with fairy dust like always. Once she's looking good and cute enough, she gets a colorful scarf gently wrapped around her neck to underline her adorableness even more: Woe those that withstand her Cute Charm today, Kee totally can't.
- Core is in a good mood today because Kee provided a new playlist: It's full off experimental artcore like this and old-school happycore like that, everything manually bassboosted and on default repeat-all. 'A Paraudio needs a constant supply of music like it needs food and water', is what Kee's uncle told him upon playing the HyperBall into his hands roughly ten years ago, 'there's none I can imagine better to take good care of an exemplar of these curious Pokemon than you'. The musical dino will listen to it at full blast, effectively blocking out any other sounds. How he STILL manages to pick up battle orders Kee still has no idea, he believes that it has to do with this species' psychic powers.
- Every other Pokemon's Ability stays the same.

Eventually the local colorful musician finds himself down the Lobby at a table, Octavia curled up in his lap and Draven beside, checking todays weather and the news on his laptop while enjoying the BLACKEST tea one can imagine. He would have gone off into town already, but he has business with Randolph before he can do that, he hopes that the blacksmith hasn't left the Center already, he throws glances into the room every now and then in hope to spot him.
EDIT: He himself can't be missed due to his trademark clothing style.

First off: Abilities!
Karen is (unlike Spira [and me]) a morning person, she comes bursting into the lobby of the Pokemon Center raring to get things going! Unlike the usual three braids she wears, she has her hair in a single Dutch braid.
When Karen hears what Nurse Joy has to say about the hauntings, she shrugs; "Ghosts aren't a problem with me!"

Fair enough! I imagine they would not be much reason for either Ran or Rowan to continue talking with each other anyway, so skipping that is fine by me!

With Roark and Byron: No reaction for either of them, as he's already done what he intended.
With Candice
- He'd give the frosty lass a fairly pleased thanks for the trade, and would wish her the best of luck with the cold iron moles! When they comment about the Type Resist Berries, though, that earns her a raised eyebrow before also recieving a mild *Snort* too. "Not partial to them Berries myself, no offense to ya preferences lass. They're just too darn ineffective at what they're supposed to do for me to use them over more generally useful and potent Held Items, so I avoid purchasing them on principle. If some Berry Horticulturalist or herbal medicine guru can manage to give them a much bigger kick in the future, though, I may be willing to be more partial to them."
- Temple Talk Response: " *Sighs* Yes. Yes we did. Too much of an adventure that doesn't seem like it'll EVER end, if you ask me. Bah..... *Shakes head* But that's my problem, and I've been handling it......tolerably well so far, so don't worry too much about me princess. Least, not until you don't hear back from me or my partners for yonks, anyway. *Nods* Got ya, and good idea. Last thing we need is some poor fool sneaking or going in there unprepared for the fun house the Temple has been turned into.

*Sighs, and gives Candice a wry grin*

"Alright, lass. I'll keep my head in this blasted cosmic game, and off the chopping block the best I can. That's the best I can promise ya. *Chuckles* Of course ya will, Jackie Frost. Should go without saying, really, hah hah!
- Before he would depart, Ran would ask for some tidbits of advice on how to properly care for an Ice type Pokemon, especially in hotter climes and areas (Like around a forge). He's never handled one of them before, so some help from the regions resident Icy Type master would be greatly appreciated!
Purchases: Ran would indeed buy the Sundry Goods/Supplies & Materials for $5000 Poke, leaving him with only $5000 left! Costly, but hopefully it'll be fully worthwhile! Because of that, though, he's going to hold off purchasing anything from the Pokemart, as he'd like to have some emergency funds leftover for any unexpected purchases/to take back home later.

With all that done, the bristly blacksmith would beeline to the Center and to bed, as after this wild and turbulent day he so earnestly wants as much shut eye for the heaps of Tauros shit he'll likely be struggling to deal with the next day.....

Day Three Reactions:

Ran nearly sleeps in the gelid but clear morning, until Beethoven manages to release himself from his Ball and sings "Through The Fire and Flames" (A song he LOATHES) to rouse him, which involved much cursing to the tune of "I'm up, I'm up! Turn that GODDAMN new age hipster rock off already, ya wing ding!" After that, the midget man grumply groused his way through his normal morning routine and breakfast, before checking in with the Nurse to see if she got him the goods he's been combing the city for days to get at, and his mood turned down right giddy when she did

"*Grabs the package* ....Heh Hehe, Hah Hah Hah! At last, at last, I got that last damn part I need, and without having to journey to the gates of hell to get it, Hah Hah! I can FINALLY get started on building that Prosthetic for my partner and give him a working limbback, and it's all thanks to ya! Thank you, mam! Heh Heh Hah Hah!"

Yeap, Randolph's actually happy alright! Good news does his spirits good indeed! It should also be noted that Beethoven is sitting on his shoulder the whole time and was also sharing his their buddy's joy, actually letting out the classical Zelda Item Get! sound effect/diddy when he added the package/parts to his Inventory and pumping his wings in concert with their laughts! It's celebration time for them both, so he'll gladly dance to the sound of his buddy's laughter, chirpity chirp!

Unfortunately, his gaiety couldn't last, as the other news she had to deliever immediately wiped the smile off his face and caused him to go serious, which also got his singing carney to stop their own fun antics and let out a disappointed humming sound. Drat, fun time is over already.....

".....I see. Well, thanks for the warning, mam. Me and my group will be taking all due caution and respect with the Routes, so ya don't have to be concerned about us dying freezing out there. *Mumbles* That'll probably be the LAST thing we'll have to worry about, bah..... *Shakes head* Anyway, we know what we're doing, and we're not rank amatuers that can't the elements or frozen fauna out here, so we'll be fine.......or so I hope."

His best bird buddy solemnly nods along with him, looking none to eager to get started on their perilous journey and job, but none the less resolved to do his best to help out anyway! They can't and won't let him down, and he'll throw up such a fuss if anything tries to seriously stop them!

As for Ran's Pokemon Abilities for the Day (And his Default Line Up):
- Zorn and Brigid are going back to using Sheer Force and Drought, respectively. He feels that his juggernaut drake will be needing to be extra brutish today, and his coal muncher will be out and about outside today, so their should be little worry about it being unusable this time!
- Boreas will keep Soundproof as its Ability for the day, as Routes 216 and 217 already have Hail Weather as their default clime, so therefore he has little need to set it himself. This will probably backfire on me in some way, but hey, at least SP lets them be a great partner for Beethoven! He'll also be taught Blizzard via TM, as he'd be able to best put it to use more often than not and because Ran wants to show the little Christmas tree he's serious about making them big and great like their former bosses!
- Absol's Ability will be Pressure, as both they and Ran would want to ward off at least some of the small fry on the Routes ahead, and do a better job of scaring the beejezus out of those left that DARE challenge them.
- Everyone else will have the same Abilities they've had as always.
- Ran's line up for the future: Diam (Sablenite), Beethoven (Silk Scarf), Catherine (Life Orb), Boreas (Rocky Helmet), Absol [Name Pending] (Leftovers), and Brigid (Charcoal)

With that out the way, let's get to respond to Kee and Karen!

Kee: They would find Ran sitting over in one of the back tables in the lobby, reviewing once more over his notes/pictures/design doccos on the Robo Prosthetic, with Beethoven playing soothing classical music to help him focus. He also has what looks to be a package right beside him, opened up to reveal what's exactly in it. Could those be the Neuro Sensors he needs to finally attempt to build that arm....?

Also, Ran's trying/tried yet again to Craft a Light Wieght Metal Mask for Kogeki too, one that resembles the one that they one armed ninja wore, with the added feature of a detachable lower part so he could eat/hold things in his mouth without taking the mask off. What would be the Roll on that?

Karen: They'd get a somewhat deadpan and slightly withering look at their fate and spirit tempting comment (Even a veteran would be wary of ANY Ghost, given what they could do), before he scoffs to himself and returns to his work. However, Diam also heard the wee lass' comment, and obviously that didn't sit too well with her. Or rather, it sat exteremly well, for it indeed lit sparks of wicked whimsy within her 'dark' soul and bright gem eyes, prompting her to discretely/indiscreetly let herself out and either A) Used their Ghostly powers to try and Quash their plucky attitude and wait until they turn around to see her to cackle wildly at them (If they succeed in Stealth) or B) Leer at them oh so curiously and invitingly, as if asking them if they were serious or flippant with their remark (If Stealth Release fails).....

"Keep Ice types cool if you can.  They don't usually like high temperatures and Fire for obvious reasons.  Aside from that, they're just like any other pokemon!~  Easy enough, right?"

-------------------------------------------------

Craft roll: (3)(2)(3)(6)(1)(2)(4)(5)(4)(3)(1)(2) 3 successes.

Now that Randolph is actually in the warm indoors and able to sit down with proper tools and a flat table, creating a smaller item like a metal mask isn't actually all that hard.  It isn't a masterpiece by any means, but it'll definitely get the job done without getting in Kogeki's way.

--------------------------------------------------

Stealth: (3)(3)(6)(1)(5) 2 successes
Alert: (4)(1)(3)(3)(4)(5)(1) 2 successes

Diam isn't exactly trained in the art of Stealth, so she ends up Leering menacingly when Karen turns around, having felt a creepy gaze staring at her from behind...

Leer
(6)(4)(4)(6)(2)(4)(4)
And what a Leer it is!  It's enough to send shivers down most anyone's spine...

(Alright, took me awhile to think up this first scene, so here goes nothing!)

*Flashforward!*

Once his business with Kee, Karen, and Kogeki is done for the morning, Ran inevitably finds himself in a Private Room in the back in the Center, sitting in a chair with his purchased Dragon Gem Necklace in one hand and a cup of cocoa in the other. He stares at it for a time, studying the intricate metal work of the golden chain and peering deeply the flawless, deep dark blue Gem set in the pendant, his reflection on it unusually serious and contemplative. The longer he gazed into it, the more thoughtful and frustrated he got, until finally he let go of it and pinched the bridge of his nose, heaving out an slightly irritated 'Bah!' as he shook his head in consternation.

"Verdammt, what do I say to Zorn when I give this to him? 'You've been a treasured partner of mine, so here's something to show how much you mean to me?' *Shakes Head* No no no. Too mushy and awkward, yet not sincere enough too. Big brute would just gawk at me if I spouted that drivel, or think I'm buttering him up for something and get Leerly about it and me intentions. Gah....."

Yeap, you heard that right. The midget man is indeed fretting about his delivery of the Dragon Gem Necklace bling to his Dragon.

Abnormal as that was, he DOES have his reasons for doing so. Mainly, what was troubling him so much it was he honestly didn't know how they would react to it, as he NEVER gave the big brute anything other than meals, training, and the occasional scolding. Couple that with them being right grumpy bastard like me most the time, and add in the fact that their relationship hasn't exactly been the warmest or kindest on average, and it became a valid concern of his that they might not end up liking or trusting the Necklace if he doesn't phrase why they get it. Saying nothing at all about the gift would sidestep this issue, but doing so would defeat the whole purpose of giving it away to them - to further cheer Zorn up and strengthen their bond. It probably leave them more bewildered and concerned about their seemingly spontaneous windfall too, knowing his luck.....

Simply put, Ran was stumped about this. Or maybe he was overthinking things with his scaled subterror. Who knows?

Eventually, the dwarven craftsman threw up his hands and shouted "Enough! I'll just wing it like Beethoven during karaoke night at the bar. If I put myself on the spot, I'll think of something suitable  that'll get the point through his thick scales and skull....."

With that abruptly decided, he grabs the Necklace, hides it behind his back, switches Zorn into his party and, after a moment's pause, releases them into the room. He let's them get their bearings, before he lightly coughs to grab their attention.

"Zorn......"

Ran hesitates for a second, before letting out a small *Sigh* and brings out their gift for them to see, holding it by the chain letting the Dragon Gem pendant dangle in the air.

"Here. Got ya this made personally for you, for playing your BIG part in winning me Badge from Candice, and.....all the hard work you've achieved thus far. You've come a long way since we've teamed up, and while you still act like a bit of a hard headed, Rough Skin bastard.......I can honestly say I'm proud of you. So take this, and claim it as your rightful prize for all you've accomplished. You deserve it."

Now, their reaction......

---------------

Fastforward a bit more, and NOW it's time for Ran to introduce himself to his dark prophet Absol! This event is a far easier matter for him to handle, as all he does is (After returning all his Pokemon) release them in the same private room, and greets them as thus:

"Greetings, Absol's. Name's Randolph, and I'm your new partner. Old Fashion - Rowan - traded you to me by my request, as I need a prophet and a Pokemon with a Keen Eye for danger like you to help me with my latest job. Think we can mostly get along?"
