[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
"Pure Bug, huh?  Completely unmodified...you've definitely earned that spot in history, Professor Laurelin."

Legend in the Mists: Cold Storage remix by VanilluxePavilion - Pokemon B/W

Nathan motions for Gallade, Ventus, and Terra to stand back a little, then takes a few slow steps forward into the room on his own, hands raised to show he's not holding anything in an attempt to communicate that he's not a threat.  He keeps his tone even and calm as he speaks to the Bug.  "Hey, it's okay.  We're not here to hurt you.  We're just here to talk, okay?"

Genesect extrudes two blades from sheathes in its arms, but peeks a bulbous eye out to look at you.

Nathan responds to Genesect's cautious peek carefully and slowly.  He reaches for the Sword on his hip...

"You can tell how powerful this weapon is, right?"

...and with the Sword still sheathed, he slowly sets it on the ground...

"You don't have to fear us, alright?  And to prove my point..."

...and then Nathan uses a foot to send the Sword skidding away from him, towards a corner of the room where nobody is currently.

"No weapon, no damage.  You can trust us."

I enjoy progressing when I want and have the time to do so properly instead of being soft-obliged to do so right away, that's a big plus of diceless.

Niiiice, then a neat comfy Tshirt with Telperion's logo wanders into Shiva's stuff. (What does the logo actually look like? Does it too involve the tree?)

..CRESHIRE CRASH!!! \(^0^)/ If there are a lot of people playing it, it shouldn't be too hard for Shiva to find someone to play with too, right? Right?~ At best a student of Telperion who's around her age, gender doesn't matter!

Iron, and if you'd give me that NPCs Stats for Insight, Knowledge and Gaming Speciality, I can roll it out myself if that's okay! Shiva's got a deck prepares that mostly holds Grass and Fire Types, as well as a few Colorless cards. And it holds Holo Zapdos! And Clefable of course! (But not her precious shiny Sylveon)

The one she'll play with being a student of Telperion is very optimal, as she's got a few questions she wishes to ask them:

It's true. Without the Sword, and with Arete outside with Laurelin, you probably don't have any attacks that can hurt this ancient bug much.

Genesect doesn't know what a sword is, but it can sense the offensive power of it.

Genesect thrusts out an arm and stabs a wrist-spike into the ground, and hauls itself bodily forward to observe you more closely. It doesn't seem afraid of you right now as long as you're holding still.

Telperion's logo is the Tree, but crowning in a single lamppost with the crosspost forming a T.

The person who looks the most similar to you in age is a girl named Ansa. Ansa is studying art history, which she says turned out to be a lot harder than she imagined. But she still makes a lot of time to play Creshire Clash. So we're going to give her only 3 Knowledge, but 5 Gaming and 4 Insight.

She also mentions that her younger sister Addie is even better at art of all kinds, and plays quite a bit too, if you need more of a challenge.

They've both been to DilapiCon, which is held in Cress City if I recall correctly. Cress has more indoor spaces, so it makes sense. But everyone in Botanville attends.
The library is open to anyone with Creshire residency. There are a few books that are reserved for students, but they wouldn't be relevant to Shiva.
Telperion has a Student Intake Lounge, which is in a nice sunroom. They have staff there who can answer questions and file paperwork. They also have directories that would help you find a prof.

It hasn't been specified where DilapiCon is held, I'm certain I'd have noted it if it were - all I've got noted is that it's held by the Shack in August and is regionally-famous (^^; ) Gonna add that it's held in Cress City then!

Art History! This sounds very intriguing for Shiva. "Can relate that it must be kinda hard to study... That one book I read about the history of art a while ago was already somewhat difficult to follow, haha... Uhm... *nervous chuckling followed by the sound of cards being shuffled* Let's not worry to much about that now though and play CRESHIRE CRASH!! instead, shall we?" \(^0^)/ Whimicott's very eager to watch!

Shiva's gonna play with her deck full of Grass Fire and Colorless Pokemon prepares, as well as Clefable! And Holo Zapdos!!☆ Ansa uses a deck that's consiting of 'graceful and hstorically-important Pokemon' according to her own words. None is very effective against the other. Ansa's Roll is 4 Insight + 3 Knowledge + 5 Gaming = 12d6, Shiva's Roll is7 Insight + 5 Knowledge + 0 Gaming = 13*d6 since each Legendary adds a dice to the roll. They'll play three Rounds, and then Shiva's gonna play one with Addie.

First play!

Ansa: (5)(4)(2)(2)(3)(2)(3)(6)(5)(1)(5)(3) 5 successes
Shiva: (2)(3)(6)(6)(1)(4)(2)(5)(3)(5)(6)(6) 7 succeses

That Round goes to Shiva! She has gotten really lucky, having drawn the evolutions of her Vuplix and Growlithe just when she needed them. Their firepower did the rest to Ansa's beautiful pack of Espeon.

Second play!

Ansa: (2)(5)(3)(6)(4)(2)(5)(5)(6)(2)(2)(6) = 7 successes
Shiva: (6)(4)(3)(1)(6)(2)(5)(3)(5)(1)(4)(6) = 7 successes

This play soon atracted more bytsnading watchers as it was in an out; at first it seemes lieke Ansa would definitely win, then Shiva made it to turn tables last minute and sweep a lot of Ansa's Pokemon with some fully evolved Grass Types. Ansa made it to defeat Shiva's Victreebell with a powerful last blow from her colorless Dragonair and draw her last prize card, but in the same turn Dragonair ended up loosing their last HP due to some Poisoning Vicreebell inflicted. Shiva and Ansa agreed on a tie for this match.

Final Play!

Ansa: (4)(5)(2)(2)(5)(6)(3)(2)(3)(4)(6)(1) = 6 successes
Shiva: (5)(4)(3)(6)(1)(5)(4)(3)(4)(2)(5)(2) = 7 successes

That match was really close and made the watchers cheer on their prefered player! Ansa seemed to have the upper hand with a bank full of Kirlia and a strong Mienshao as her active Pokemon, the Shiva's fans start to sweat and to worry... Her colorless Furret chips in and makes short shrift with that one though thanks to a few very lucky coin tosses, and in the end both have exactly one prize card left!

It's Ansa's Guardevoir against Shiva's Nintales for the finals... Every drawn card could decide between a defeat and a win now!! Both battlers loose a significant amount of HP every turn, but thanks to a particular PokePower of Shiva's Ninetales the fox makes it to deliver a devasting final blow: Guardevoir is out of HP, Shiva draws her last prize cards (an Ivysaur) and receives cheers, hugs and congratulations for having done so well!! (>v<) Ansa offfers a smile and a hand to shake to the natural fae-enthusast, who happily and blushy accepts. "Great play!! And nice choice of Pokemon cards there, Shiva... My, you've been really lucky!!"

A little girl that has been clinging to Ansa and has observed their match with a curious eye has a shy smile for Shiva as well. But she hides a bit behind her as Ansa introduces her, "Oh, that's my younger sister Addie... She's a very silent child, but really got potential! Like, she's got the viewpoint of an artist already it seems, her drawings are.... Ugggghhh, I even struggle to decribe them properly! And she's got the habit to get really attached to anything that's beautiful and pleasant to the eyes in her view."

"Y...your Whimsicott is really cool! Such fluffy and pretty fluff", Addie shyly speaks up. Shiva makes it persuage Addie to a match of Creshire Crash by letting her pet and cuddle her dearest fluffball (who's not too happy about it, but soon lets it be upon noticing hat Abbie's very careful and more interested in admiring Whimsi than cuddling her) Addie is 6 Insight + 3 Knowledge + 5 Gaming = 14d6.

Playtime!

Addie: (6)(3)(6)(6)(3)(5)(5)(4)(2)(6)(3)(6)(4)(4) = 10 successes
Shiva: (6)(1)(6)(6)(3)(4)(5)(3)(6)(5)(6)(3) = 8 successes

Shiva's luck ends here, Addie's very carefully selected deck holding ONLY Pokemon that are either nothing but a feast for the eyes or display a really artistic image of the Pokemon make it to defeat even her beloved Holo Zapdos. Addie's various Milotic and Umbreon are not only beauti- and graceful it seems, but also potent sweepers!

The natural fae-enthusast chuckles and pats Addie's head with a careful and appreciating hand. "Your big sister is right, you really DO have potential! Don't let it go to waste, will you?" (⌒‿⌒) Addie eagerly nods.

Shiva to Ansa after having packed away everything and preparing for goodbyes and goodnights: "Uhm... Tonight's been really fun, many many thanks for the card matches and everything! Do you think we could...keep in contact to meet up for further matches? And possibly even go to DilapiCon together in August? (◕‿◕) I'd be happy to explore and experience it with you two, especially since you and your dear little sister have already been there! I also wanted to enroll at Telperion once I'm done with my journey, so we could possibly meet each other often enough anyway!! P-please?~"

Sure, Ansa is happy to trade numbers with you, especially as you've hinted that you might be going to Telperion when school starts late August (or whenever, we'll just move the start date to accommodate you.)

EEEEEEEHHHHH, Shiva's just happy and delighted to trade numbers and stay in contact with Ansa and her little sister! \(^v^)/❤ She thanks them in a very joyous manner, then quickly becomes timid about her outburst of joy. "Uh, yes, thanks again, my pleasure!! Bet we'll see one another again soon, yay! But, I, uhm... It's becoming dark and I still need to care for my Pokemon, but I'm staying here in Botanville for a while! Until then, stay safe and sleep well later on, and good luck with art history, that too!" Off Shiva and Whimsi are then, both fae-enthusiast and fae-fluffball waving towards Ansa and Addie as they go.

+++++++

The next scene shows a Shiva that has gotten herself comfortable in the small yet cozy dorm inside the hillside that she's gotten, the room is held in a dim light that does not hurt the eyes. It's very silent inside the room, and from the window a part of the velvet nightsky can be seen. A thoughtful expression is on her face as she's just sitting there on the bed, looking down to and fidgeting nervously with the Pokeball that's in her hands. She seems...either indecisive about what to do, or just hesitant and insecure about taking some action - likely even both.

A held back breaks the lingering silence in the room, followed by a more intrusive flash of a white light: It's coming from the Pokeball in her hands indeed, and the summoned light and data turn into a very small feline creature that's now sitting there on the floor: It's wearing a neat blue and knitted scarf, and it shakes its greyish head with the detached green ears. It's not visible, but somewhere on the creature a gemstone that glows in an eerie and potent green light is hidden.

It's Curie, the tiny Nucleon Shiva has rescued from the underground lab! How does she react to beng summoned, how does she react towards Shiva smiling down to her and trying hard to be a calming presence for he little one?

Nathan holds still and lets the Genesect observe him for a moment.  So long as the Legendary isn't attacking, there's little reason to not do so.  Nathan isn't expecting it to be easy to earn this large bug's trust, but this is a very good start.

"Go ahead.  Show me I can trust you too.  We're not enemies."

Nathan will let the bug continue to observe him so long as there isn't an apparent threat.  He doesn't want to make any sudden moves or be hasty with the topic of his speech.  The fate of this bug depends on his success or failure here...

After a moment's silent observation, Nathan asks, "Comfortable enough to talk?  Is it okay if I sit down with you for a bit?"
