[Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands
Windos, while re-reading Oz battle against Dandy Man, I get curious to ask: Besides the Yu-Gi-Oh card, what was the inspiration(s) to Mega Hatterene design? And choice of weapons? I been waiting to ask for quite a while.

It is because it makes a Pokemon go beyond it's form and get a new and a powerboost? Or it is because it was the first gamechange appearance in 3D game before Z-Moves and Dynamax/Gigantamax, and it pure liked/loved by pure nostalgic thing?

If the first answer, then couldn't we say Z-Moves and Dynamax/Gigantamax kinda do the same function as Megas? Or if is the later answer, then the other "visual" mechanics would get more love if it was made "first"?

I did see the question made on a YouTube video a long time ago, and I question myself that. I kinda know my answer, but I wanted to hear you guys insights on that topic, because you people opinions is awesome and epic, I always made think about things.

I think megas are the most popular because there's both a lot of strategic depth to choosing your team's mega as well as the mechanic just looking and feeling cool to use as well.  The mechanic does a really good job of putting a spotlight on specific pokemon and showcasing them in a new and unique way while making the pokemon (usually) feel a lot better to use in battle.  That's something that Z-moves only rarely did, and that Gmax and Tera only did successfully with very particular pokemon.  Megas just feel a lot more focused and targeted in what they're trying to do, and are generally very consistent in achieving both the cool factor and the usability benchmarks.

Or to put it another way: Megas are essentially entirely new pokemon, which is a heck of a lot more exciting for the average player than 'surprise big nuke', 'surprise supersize pokemon', and 'surprise type change mf!'

I agree. The strategic management is indeed very deep, because of how a Pokemon performance can increase or change based in its Mega. Even legendaries have a certain vibe in become stronger such as Mega Rayquaza.

The cool vibe also show such a change, because transformations is a concept old as civilization itself. The concept of a being change its base form, to a more powerful form, or just different is cool as heck. Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and specially Digimon, the concept of transformations is used to extreme ways. Something that Z-Moves, Dynamax/Gigantamax and Tera failed to appease the cool design vibe check of most fans.

No wonder even today, in some fangames you can see Mega Forms be used, or new Mega Pokémon.

Can't really tell because I'm quite mixed about Mega Evolution myself, but I'd guess what Dragonstrike already said. Basically 'wohooo epic new Pokemon with a big Stat boost, me like!' Plus a collectable aspect of hunting down the various Mega Stones.

No problem. I understand Mega Evolution is not everyone cup of tea. And the idea of epic new Pokemon with boost is pretty cool, but I never stop to think the hunt for Mega Stones could be another factor. But still cool nonetheless.

But I think another think could be how a base Pokemon design could go when go Mega. Although some designs is kinda predicable such as Mega Blastoise is just basic Blastoise...with more guns, some designs is pretty cool, such as Mega Sabbleye gem becomes big as a Shield, which I think is pretty interesting. I think the term of that situation is the "What if" scenario of a Pokemon design. What forced evolution do to a Pokemon body? And how drastic is the transformation?

It's been a while, but I clearly remember having Hellsing (the GUN and some of her attitude) and the legends about lady of war Scathach as inspirations for her overall design and 'feel' as a magical goddess of war. Some hints of India mythology was also added as well - Kali , for example, as alluded to by being multi-armed and VERY dangerous.

Onto other matters - I'm not going to get any big updates done today for work reasons until MUCH later, and that's after I get caught up on some paperwork. I'll try to progress the ones that won't take too much Rolls or elaboration, but I'm not sure how much I will get done in time.

As for the Mega Evo Topic - I'm in favor of their general return in future installments, or if not that then at least giving us back all the Megas that existed as some Alt Forms or Evos for those Mons. Beedrill, Sableyes, Mawhile, Lopunny....they all got shafted when they lost their big ticket to success, and I can't understand why Gamefreak would abandon such a popular and interesting concept as Megas when it's a good enough solution to increase the power levels of weaker Mons while shifting around things for the less than optimal ones (I weap for thee, Mega Garchomp) . Heck, introducing new Mega every generation and new DLC is practically a recipe for success that sells itself, if the popularity of Mons like Walking Wake and Ogeropon are any indicators.

Of course I haven't purchased any Nintendo products ever since Uranium and AM2R got almost eaten alive by the lawyers, and only get my Pokemon media through outside sources, data archives like Serebii, Youtubers, and fan material these days, so take my opinion with a big dash of salt here.

That's valid and perfectly fine my dear, thanks a lot for the info! Good timing too, since I'm busyyy myself today anyway, maybe tomorrow too. Eew, paperwork my behated - not fir the first time I wish I'd be with you, because then I'd make dinner and tea + cookies for you and make sure you're not interrupted, so that you can fully concentrate on things.

I do greatly look forward on progress/your further info on Bernhard's  issue with Saph!~ After one or two further responses from you I feel should have enough input to create a custom medicine or tonic of purification.

...dear Heavens. I'm so so sorry for Saph, but also quite curious who the hell inflicted it on her and why.

I'm not quite sure yet whether I want to take the risk and do that spiritual connection or not, Windos. Also kinda depends on your answer to my following question: Can Bernhard tell whether the curse is deadly or lethal? Like I've got a feeling Bernhard has enough resources/experience to not die of a curse, but I also don't want to blatantly risk loosing him as a character. (Too attached to him already)

Edit: Also, will or won't there be a roll involved when doing the connection? If not, how will it be determined mechanically speaking whether or not the curse leeches onto me?

Actually, render my above question irrelevant, as I've made my decision in the meantime and know what I aim to do now. Still interested in whether Bernhard can tell whether the curse is a lethal one or not, but it does not change my course of action (for now that is) - I'll get to post in GameThread now.

Also, I really like that Encounter, kudos and thanks on creating it! ~

Dragon told me about something that was possible in other campaigns here where you could use exp to evolve pokemon faster. Would that also be possible in this campaign? (not for a pseudo, just for regular mons.)

Apologies for the late reply - and being late in general… - but yes you can spend XP to Evolve Pokémon faster. Pseudo s too, though the cost for doing so can be quite…exorbitant, if you catch my drift.

Going to try and progress a couple of posts during my lunch, but don’t expect any verbosity from them!
