[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
Once Ven has practiced a bit, he will be able to read the music from Shiva's documents to determine the melody.

Hmmm...the Nurse Joy that replied was being vague and formal in that reply...*sigh*...they had a plan though, at least.  Hopefully they were prepared for the worst...

After everyone's healed up, Nathan goes back out into the town, letting Orthros walk alongside (the dog also gets a treat/apology in the form of another Ranc Berry.  Yum!).  He has a little more shopping to do, still...namely, he's getting a Blue Fitted Apricorn ($175).  He's going to need something to put that Castform in, after all, so why not an apricorn that matches the color of the egg?

He also gets another length of rope, but this one's only a 1 meter length ($5, 1 meter is about 3 feet).  Having both a long rope and a short one could be handy, right?

But while he's shopping, something else catches his eye...wait a second...is that Deyo Powder?!

One conversation later where I assume Nathan gets much the same info as Shiva did...

Huh...so those flowers grow all around Creshire, stop blooming in Autumn, are really common around Elanor...well, not surprising, but that doesn't explain the rare pokemon that have shown up whenever they've encountered Deyo Flowers...

"So, out of curiosity, how often would you say you find rare pokemon around Deyo Flowers?"

"Oh, the rare Pokemon around Deyo? Yes sir, if the meteor is fresh enough, there always are!! You get maybe a year or two, tops, before they migrate onward."

The whole time Ven was learning how to play that Shamisen, Shiva was near him and simultaneously roasting pieces of that fleshy root held on a stick, listening to him elicting sounds from the instrument, and learning the lyrics of 'Skirl of the Southern Wind' by heart. Given that she read and reread the lyrics coutless times, it actually wasn't that hard as she believed it would. (Does this still need a roll, Iron?) She kept the book open in her lap, mentioned stick in one hand, Chicorita on her right shoulder and Nightshade cuddled up close to her, resting half on the book and half on her lap.

A few times she ended up buring the root to an unedible state mostly because she was concentrated on the lyrics and this was only the second time she roasted food at an open fire, but more rarely than yesterday with marsh mallow plants. Whenever she was repeating the lyrics silently in her mind, she just stared into the embers of the bonfire, trying to find a pace she felt well with.

There was no real task or order for Nightshade and Chicorita. Both where just present, enjoying the closeness to their Master, and free to listen to the music as well as enjoying and learning about the scene here. Or rather, as their both Grass Types, learning that fire was not directly harmful but also warm and comfortable to sit by.

(Indeed, this is a Training Session for Chicorita and Nightshade. I also want to give Shiva +1 point in Perform Speciality here. She'll visit a Cottonwood Tree during the next day then.)

"Well sir, I'm a bit of a craftsman, and I can tell you that a lot of good stuff can be made out of those rare minerals the meteors bring. Gym badges, for example. Pokedexes, I believe. Even trace amounts in a Pokeball. Anything with that shiny color. Maybe it attracts them. BUT. There are some who say those Pokemon traveled with the meteors! If you ever see a Solrock or Lunatone, it's a sure thing they came from a meteor. Or so they say. That's why the Solrock is found so commonly in Elanor Town, relative to the rest of Creshire."

"I'd actually be happy to stay there and listen to the tune of your instrument, de- VEN. Just for the sake of...getting to know the sound of it and you playing it. I know the lyrics, but I'm missing the melody to go with the lyrics. Alright?"

At Shiva's somewhat eager declaration (Which almost caused him to grin when she almost adopted his term of endearment) , Ventus wrapped an arm behind her back and gave them nod of his head, before leading them to the Shamisen player. Learning music with his crush dear friend...just the outcome he was hoping for!

He introduced himself to the musician and his desire to learn his chosen/found instrument (Giving the gentleman a respectful bow as he did so) and they accepted his request, he quickly got into the familiar groove of learning as he listen/mimicked his instructor. His scholarly background and vague familiarity with how to play a gitar greatly aided in him absorbing all the knowledge/techniques and commiting it to long term memory, so much so that he felt he could at least play his instrument with some modcrum of skill (Leveling up Preform for 6 XP, Giving me 1 Point in it!)!

Once he was finished with his music lesson, the man urged him to immediately put his practice to good use, which briefly caused him to hestitate for moment before he nodded his head. Ven got into stance and let himself go into a mild trance state to clear his mind and relax as he was instructed, and quietly pondered what Skial he would create for the song he was making. 'Tandel and the Reverand said that the song must come from the heart, and I know the basic structure of the Skial I read from Shiva's book, but what would be the best choice? Many things lay within myself, equal parts positive and.....not, so what feelings do I draw upon to empower my song......ah. .....Not a totally comforting or festive song, but its what my heart devised, and so I must head its dictation,' he though, pondering what to sing until it came upon him suddenly and without warning, leaving him feeling somewhat sullen yet resolute with what he came up with.

Clearing his mind again, the amatuar musician took a deep breath and let it out a heavy breath of air, before he began to play, singing the Skial he made in tandum in tune with the song:

"Look
See
The world can seem so scary

Look
See
Harbors things that make one wary

Sleep
And Dream
Of memories sweet and dear

Sleep
Dream
Of happiness without fear

Look and see how lives shift like the seasons
From youth to innocence lost without many reasons
Yet despite life being filled with strife and grief
People laugh and smile, buoyed by heartfelt belief

Look
See
Instead a world without fright

Look
See
Because we can make it bright

Look
See
Because we can make it bright"

Ventus finished his song with nary a flourish or much aplomb, but never the less it ended on a high note, filled with thought that despite the misfortunes of life and the vile things that exist, their was always hope that things could be improved for the better. Its a belief he's proven himself, so he knows that its true.
Like the wind, I come and go as I please... but I am always there to provide a comforting breeze.

No roll for memorizing the original Skirl, since Shiva has been working on it a long time.

Cherubi gets a training roll. Insight 4 + Knowledge 3 + Perform 1 - this is the perfect place for musical contemplation.
(2)(3)(1)(5)(5)(5)(6)(2)(4) 5 bonus XP.

Ventus, those lyrics are ideal for the Skirl! +1 XP. Your tutor nods, feeling a bit of what you feel, and knowing that came from the heart like no other lyrics would have done for the man.

Shiva can pick out the tune and see how it fits with her own lyrics.

Well, Staryu and Starmie are said to have some sort of connection to space and the stars...and Comite and its evolutions are actually from space if Sheldon was to be believed...well, enough pondering that for now...

"Another question then.  I've noticed some pokemon seem to like the flowers quite a lot, while some seem to avoid them whenever possible.  That could be for any number of reasons since every pokemon is different, of course, but have you noticed any trends in what pokemon seem to like and/or dislike the flowers?"
