Yep, there's a small chance it could hurt him! Thanks for the reminder.

Fire Spin and similar end when the pokemon using the move in question leaves the field/faints in the games, though.  Considering the 1 HP rules state the pokemon is treated as having been fainted and is immediately withdrawn, I was a little surprised Iron allowed that one Fire Spin to go through.

Swiftfire was victim to this ruling in that battle with Shield Maiden Valerie.

It feels somewhat unrealistic to me that a successfully inflicted Fire Spin and similar moves would not end after the Pokemon that inflicted it leaves the battle, I've always wondered about in the Games.

The rulebook (under the move) actually implies pretty hard that it stays, now that I am looking at its description. So that was an error on my part back with the Shieldmaiden.

I'm not sure what type the damage should be - typeless or a the type it's clearly flavored to be - but it just makes a lot of sense that it be fire type.

Gonna look and see if there's anything elsewhere.

I would rule that it would be Typeless unless it explicitly stated otherwise due to that being the way its hand in the base games, but that is just my two cents on the matter.

Maybe I should have Braixen learn Fire Spin too, it seems to be a rather useful move if performed correctly. I'd argue for Fire Type damage, but I'd have nothing against Typeless damage in the future.

Alright, Iron, I'll send you my instructions for Round 5, then I'll be offline for the night.

I personally think the reasoning for it stopping to work after the pokemon leaves the field is because the user isn't there to maintain the power. Wrap, Bind, Clamp etc. and Mean Look/Block work like that for obvious reasons, so it's not too far fetched to say the same happens for the ranged semi-trapping moves.

I feel like I may have ruled Wrap this way in the past.

Works that like in the base games too if my memory serves me correctly for Trapping Moves, so I'm fine with this interpretation as well!
