I didn't know about that move, sweet! Nice that it is worded unambiguously for a change.
Gym Leader Dagny vs Nathan Round 6
Gritting his teeth and clenching his will, Nathan waits for just the right moment before ordering Me First!
Me First 1
(2)(2)(5)(4)(1)(5)
Me First copied Drill Run!
3 Str + 3 power +1 STAB +1 MF -5 vit = 3d6+1
(2)(6)(6)(1)(2) Excadrill takes 3 dmg. 2/9hp -2 pain.
This looks pretty awesome with Absol's spike clashing against Excadrill's drilling claws!
Drill Run 1
8 dice for brawl, -1 acc, -2 pain, -2 actions = 3d6
(6)(5)(4)
(4)(4)(2)(2) Calam faints.
Burn: (5) Drilbur takes 1 dmg, so he actually only has 1/9hp.
"I think you've got this under lock and key, Nathan, but I'd still like to see you seal the deal. Let's see what Starmie can do."

(before I post more orders...)
One: Excadrill still has to roll 1 D6 for the burn check since I don't see anything saying Dagny extinguisehed it. If it fails, it takes 2 lethal damage (total of 4) and faints. If it succeeds, it has 1 HP left and 3 lethal damage.
Two: Drill Run is a high crit move, which might matter if Excadrill doesn't faint from the Burn 2. Did Calam crit it thanks to Super Luck brining it to another 3 success crit in the accuracy? If so, 2 more damage dice please! 2 successes on the crit, and Calam wins! 1 success, and Calam faints, but the burn takes Excadrill down guaranteed! Or are we ruling that you have to crit Me First independently of the copied move? (Unfortunately, Me First has some ambiguity as far as how the damage pool it copies is calculated since you're copying a move that hasn't been used yet)
Three: there's also the matter of whose defense Me First uses to calculate damage. From what Excadrill has, its damage pool for Drill Run is 3 + 3 + 1 - 3 = 4 D6. All other moves that copy damage pools copy the final result, not the pre-defense. If Me First works the same way, that's yet another 2 dice that could be added to Calam's damage pool for Me First, giving him 5 D6 damage before a crit.
(Also, yeah, Me First is an awesome move. Happy I have a pokemon with it in both campaigns! Quite handy when it comes in clutch like this!)

.......Oh. That sounded like a touch nut Shiva has received to crack, and almost immediately she grew a bit of insecure about whether she'll be able to calm and handle that Grumpig at all, Ventus was not present to help either should it be needed - before the knowledge that she herself has dealt with Pokemon that either have active or yet dormant psychic power before and still does so, as well as having other possibilities to find out what's wrong before the issue can be adressed. She'll look into that more grumpy than usual Grumpig, that's for sure. Not that she felt like having any other choice, that is, hopefully things will work out in the end like they did with that Charmeleon...

Aside from that ruccus we have caused yesterday with Charmeleon, has maybe a group of visitors stopped by that showed or not showed interest in him, or otherwise behaved out of the norm? Have Dark types been spotted yesterday, or are there hints that there are any lurking nearby the Shelter? Is Grumpig taking any medicine currently or lately has, does his increassed aggressiveness come along with other unusual traits like a lack of appetite or such? How did he came here to the Shelter at all, as accoding to my knowledge the Grumpig-line usually doesn't cause much of problems for a Trainer that knows how to deal with Psychic Types, Grumpig especially only uses their manipulative powers on foes and those who disrespect it? And... would you mind if I'd take him outside to the city with my own Pokemon shall there be hints that this would do him well?"
Seems Shiva is serious about this given task.

Mechanics:
Get to know that Grumpig a little better before Shiva will swap Vaporeon in her party for Helios, then go to see that grumpy Grumpig with Braixen out of his Pokeball and beside her as a safety measure (pig meets fox). Yena, being a Dark Type and capable of biting that pig hard, remains in his Pokeball unless it feels like that Grumpig needs to literally know its behaviour is not tolerated. Shiva does nothing to Grumpig at first nor exchanges words with him apart from introducing herself with name and as someone who means no harm, then using her empathic senses towards Pokemon to see whether she can get a hint on what may be wrong from Grumpig directly. Insight + Empathy = 5 dice for me.

In this campaign it only copies the damage pool, not the resulting number of damage dice. It's worded slightly differently than something like Counter, since you actually use the move instead of responding to damage. I believe this is intentional, since otherwise it is far more potent than Counter. So I used Dagny's vitality against it.
That being said, it could indeed crit, since you're using the same move, so that's added in now.
Just gotta deal 1 more damage to Excadrill, meaning a water type move only has to hit, doesn't even have to succeed on damage! Alternatively, just survive the round and let Burn handle it!

We believe he was recently evolved and maybe the trainer didn't appreciate his new form. We didn't have any unusual visitors or occurrences yesterday. He's not on any medicines and is usually a model inmate. Feel free to take him on a walk, but bring some of your own Pokemon with you!"
(6)(2)(2)(5)(5)
Grumpig seems to have no injuries, no grudges, nothing like that which would cause his current mood. But he keeps doing his dance, which according to the Almanac is normally used to hypnotize enemies or use psychic attacks. He doesn't appear to be performing a move. It's more like he has a beat in his head that won't let him go.

Out comes Starmie once more!
One last hit...that's all it will take...
...
Nathan wants this win.
Badly.
"Starmie, more bubbles! Illuminate this battlefield with the power of water and our passion for battle!"
Bubble Beam x1! (Spending another will point to add a success to the move!)

Gym Leader Dagny vs Nathan Final Round!
Starmie comes out shining, blasting its gemlight to reflect off all the steel!
Dagny has less dice, and you can see she is waiting to order just one optimal attack, same as Nathan. But Starmie and Nathan are faster.
Bubble Beam
(2)(3)(1)(6)(4)(1)(6)(5)
Excadrill faints! Dagny recalls him and descends back into her chair. She makes sure to tend to her Pokemon. "I'll be with you in a moment, Nathan."
Out comes an array of healing items, which her Magnemite carefully place, ready for her to administer as efficiently as possible. In no time, her Pokemon are stable and resting. She loads them up on a summoned Metagross and off they go.
"Now. Congratulations, Nathan! You should know by now that I don't hold back. The Pokemon I've chosen were perfectly matched to your skill, and used what I thought were their optimum strategies. I saw that steely glint of the will to battle in your eyes. You deserve this win!"
She places a yellow disc in your hand. It looks a bit like a biscuit of shiny holographic sand, with streaks of light steel blue.
"This is the Ankerite badge. It makes Pokemon sturdier (Vitality 0.5). Fewer trainers have won it than have won Zamboni's badge. You should be proud. And not just for what happened in this battle. Never cease to go as far as you can go."
Nathan earns 22XP for his Pokemon, and 11 for himself.
"You earn this as well." She gives you $800 and three silver Pokeballs.
"These are Steel Balls. They're normally only as effective as a red Poke Ball, but they only break in extreme situations. That makes them quite re-usable. As an added bonus, they are equivalent to a Great Ball against Steel-type Pokemon."
"I am sure we'll end up working together again. Have you given thought to what gym you will challenge next?"

Of course Shiva will make sure to have some of her own Pokemon outside as guardians for herself and to make sure Grumpig behaves himself (if not, first warning will be Yena howling intimidating and Shiva not being pleased before Yena will display her biting force on that tasty-looking psychic piggy...) shall she take him outside for one reason or the other. Depends on how things develop.
Seems like Grumpig was not aggressive towards her which she MAY have maybe in a small fibre of her body feared, he didn't seem to mind her and her magical fox at all. Seeing that Grumpig dancing so...hypnotic was a weird and on second glance beautiful sight, it reminded her on live-broadcasts of Pokemon showcase from Kalos she has a habit to sometimes follow. Though, reminding herself on how she herself has not only gained these...senses towards Pokemon being alot like Ven's, but also a certain amount of control over her erratic pool of emotions by now (doesn't prevent it from being capable of switching from one emotion to the other rapidly if triggered, however) as well as almost constant dealing with members or soon-members of Psychic Type, Shiva felt like manipulating or hypnotizing her would proof difficult for Grumpig. Plus, she's not a foe at all.
Nevertheless keeping respectful distance to him, she called out her Kyuu, her grey kitten with the leaking psychic power, to the scene and got down to be on eyelevel with him. He greeted her with a wondering and melodic *meow*, then followed his Master's discreet pointing to Grumpig. "Listen, Kyuu... You see that piglike Pokemon dancing? That's a Psychic type, like you. I feel like it partly dances to a specific rythm... You remember how back then in Fireweed Forest, we met that Scald, and they invited us to jam with them, and you've been lured by Braixen here performing and letting us hear his voice, eventually joing and purring and meowing to the rythm? As well as how you were with me, right here on my shoulder, during that ritual by the campfire, sounds of flute and Shamisen guiding us until a birdlike creture came from the clouds? Bring these memories back to your mind... Then approach that Grumpig, see if you can't adapt to his hypnotic dance and pick up the rythm... See how he reacts. Do not worry, it's almost impossibly that you'll end up being hypnotized." (Since Kyuu's Own Tempo prevents becoming confused)
"Braixen, you too refresh these memories in your mind, please. Lets us both concentrate to figure out the tune hidden in Grumpig's mind... When you feel you've got it, cast a Lucky Chant to calm us all. Use your dormant psychic powers, maybe, or your enlighted wand to go with the tune."
-----------------
Mechanics:
Turning this into some sort of musical scene? Let's see how Grumpig reacts to this.

Nathan's leaning on Kirlia, who's holding out a tissue for Nathan to take.
*achoo*
...he's feeling REALLY tired after that battle...and he wasn't even the one fighting! Defeating the Steel Wonder...it's not something you hear about often...and he'd had to give it his maximum effort to do so...
*sniff*
"...sorry, please excuse the...sneezing and sniffling. Caught a...*sniff*...cold yesterday. Guess I pushed myself a little too hard...didn't want to miss this chance again after spending all day inside yesterday, though. Thanks for the battle. Ya know, it's funny...Zamboni didn't hold back against me either...sent his Rotom out and blasted us with a Blizzard...no holding back seems to be a recurring theme with my gym battles...though Chuckles NEVER holds back, as everyone who's faced him knows, so..."
*achoo*
"...next gym? Probably Tanuki's since we're going to be headed to Cress City through Mt. Sentry after everyone in the group who wants to has had a crack at ya. And yeah, I'm certain we'll be...*sniff*...back at some point to cooperate with ya once more. I plan to try and take on all 8 gyms, though, just like my dad did..."
...
"...again, thank you for the battle, Dagny. I'll stay in touch if anything comes up."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nathan's in the lobby after rearranging his team at the PC in the gym. As promised, he retrieves Forthright from the PC first. Orthros, Calam, and Starmie all end up boxed so they can receive care ASAP and get a well deserved rest for doing such a spectacular job. Nathan also withdraws Pulse and Porygon-Z. He'd spend a little time working with them later, probably. Not now, though. He was still rather tired.
Right now, he was looking forward to seeing that Charmeleon and Pyroar, taking a little time to relax...maybe end up adopting one of them. Depends on how things go, really...
When he spots Ventus with Michael and Shiva's electric rodents...two things happen.
One: Kirlia gives Ventus a...weird look. It's not worried, really, but...it sort of is? He knows Nathan's concerned, particularly after he informed Nathan about what exactly happened with Ventus in that brief moment after Orthros had been sent out...but it doesn't seem like it should cause any problems for Nathan, so...
Two: Nathan happily greets Plusle and Minun (it's been a couple weeks since he's last seen them, and it's always great to have some electric cheerleaders around!), and gives a respectful nod to Michael. He'd noticed what they'd been doing during the battle, and he appreciated it.
Nathan doesn't start any conversation with Ventus. He's thankful Ventus was there to play support, but...it's mixed with worry and concern. Plus, it doesn't take a gut feeling to know Ventus probably has questions for Nathan after this morning...though Nathan has a gut feeling he will anyways (3 Insight, plus Kory's faith in Nathan's instincts, so it's a fitting character trait now!).
"...so...*sniff*...I guess we're heading to the Shelter next? After you..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the Shelter, Nathan first inquires about the stories of both Charmeleon and Pyroar. If he's going to adopt one of them, he'd like to know how they ended up there in the first place. Should make it easier to interact with them.

Please, before I'll go see him, it'd greatly help me if ou could tell me a bit more about this Grumpig's background and how the day at the Shelter has been yesterday? Has anything 'extraordinary' happened yesterday that may not directly have to do with this Grumpig, but can still play a role for the cause of his change in behaviour?

"These are great questions. Grumpig has only been here a week or two. He hasn't developed any loyalty to the shelter or to any trainers.
Heart join with Shiva to take a look in the Grumpig. Heart didnt bring Viktor out of the Pokeball to not startle the pig with a Ghost Pokemon. "So...any ideas about how to proceed Shiva?"
