Crap.
Gym Leader Tanuki vs Nathan Round 4
Tanuki sends out a huge Noctowl, thick and bulky with downy feathers. (2) + 9 = 11. It hovers in the middle of the room on powerful wings that look like they could fly forever.
The entry hazard doesn't affect Noctowl, so she (Noctowl) goes first.

Gothy gets recalled as swiftly as possible into the safety of her painted Premier Ball, the Ball gets hugged a little and the inhabitant of it receives some whispered words of praise only audible/senseable for her before packing it away; as coy and shy Shiva may be she doesn't seem to mind too much showing how she values her own Pokemon in front of people. At least, she feels like Terra wouldn't laugh at her for doing so ._.
Tropius himself doesn't react too much to the fierce glare of Basteele nor that big bulky Fighting Type chuckling, he just keeps loooking down at them from above as if to silently mock the former that the nasty spikes do nothing to him, hah!
(…)
She grows meek again and shuffles her feef again upon being critizided for the usage, but knows that Terra does only mean it well. She doesn't speak up before he finished, and closes her eyes in thought before she faces him again - it was true, he only said these things because he was concerned for her. "I'll be careful. I am careful, yes - appreciated that you're concerned for....eh...me? Thank you... I, well, thought this battle is important enough to justify the usage, and look around - there's currently none who could scold me, any wild Pokemon around very likely don't care. You are...a member of our group since yeserday, so you deserve knowing about it... As long as you won't go shouting from rooftops about Rock Smash either we'll be on the safe side, no worries! Alright?" *encouraging shy smile displaying that things were okay all while searching for the Ball containing her Pokemon to replace Gothy*
(…)
Shiva herself meanwhile can't really help but to muster that Hariyama of Terra and throw glances between them both, eventually she decided that it'd be safe to speak out what she suspects. "Something seems weird about your Hariyama, doesn't it...? It's...twitching as if being hindered in moving freely, but this does seemingly only increase his power. Humm.... That's Guts Ability, isn't it? "
The rugged wander isn't Insightful enough to discreen that Shiva is sympathetic to the ardor of her Pokémon, but he CAN tell that she's bothered by them Fainting, causing him to frown in concern yet again.
"Shiva, are you okay? Is something.....troubling you about or battle....?"
(…)
"*Stares at her, before nodding his head* Good, and you are welcome. ….Yes, I know, like I said. …*Smiles* Thank you for the trust, Shiva. You really are a big hearted person. *Nods his head* Won't do that, I promise."
(…)
For a moment the simple monk simply raised an eyebrow at her guess, before nodding his head once with a slight smile.
"Yes, you are right. I Paralyzed him before the battle, so he could start out stronger right away. Good job finding that out, Shiva."

That doesn't remain unnoticed by Shiva, especially how bulky Forretress does get knocked across the place; and she immediately gets the feeling of having overdone things a little. A stunned expression washing over her later from the sheer FORCE of Rock Smash being displayed here, she bows deeply to the owner of the steely bug in apology. "I'm...well, I'm sorry for that, Terra! Haven't used that move that often yet, I didn't expect it to be so...full of power either. Good that Foretress is partly a Steel Type, so hopefully she doesn't mind it too much?"
Delphox on the other hand gives out a feeling of being completely secure in his powers now after having reached his final form, and with his formerly hidden and dormant psychic power now being awoken he appears calm and concentrated on what Master would ask from him. She is the one who came to his den in Fireweed Forest on that faithful night, little did he (and by then Shiva) know that he'd be standing here now as a fully-fledged fierly and furry mage. He'll do anything for this young woman, follow her orders without question and be there for her to warm her with his inner fire in the most firece sand- or hailstorm - nothing could break the bond between fae enthusiast and magical fox, that's what was silently been stated as the fox took a look over his shoulder towards her, before he gave an encouraging nod to Tropius as the new battle partner ('Let us do well together, grassy sauropode!') which he returned. Giving that big guy who seemed to be Master's opponent in this battle then his two Pokemon a gaze of quiet seriousness and eager, he enlighted his basswood stick to show that he's READY TO SHOW SOME OF HIS MOVES.
![[Image: dd03434a9ecdd6c79209ba118b102789c624ca95_hq.gif]](https://pa1.narvii.com/5735/dd03434a9ecdd6c79209ba118b102789c624ca95_hq.gif)
Maybe he seems a bit TOO focused though which will allow the two opponent Pokemon to strike first, or he's just courteous.
(If a big Tropius can do that to a heavy Foretress, I can't help but to wonder what a newly-hatched Eevee could do with Rock Smash. ovo )
In contrast, Terra is mostly non-plussed about RS knocking his bombshell Bug back, as he is more concerned/interested in the HM Move being used itself in this battle. Because of that, he was completely taken off guard when the fair lady began to profusely apologize to him for using the Move, causing him to look both perplexed and a little bit bashful as he looked away from her slightly and rubbed the back of his head.
".....No need to be sorry, Shiva. In battles, you do what you can to win them, so using Rock Smash is okay. My Pokémon and I are.....impressed by it too, so we are happy you show it to us. *Pauses* ...Basteele is fine too. She's tough and Sturdy, and doesn't mind taking a beating, so don't worry about it.
(…)
Delphox's spectacular debut and the passionate Loyalty he display for his master caused Terra's eyes to widen slightly, before giving the fire fox a smile and respectful nod of his head. Seeing such a display cinches if for the herculean man: Shiva is truly a loving and dedicated Trainer toward her Pokémon, if she could inspire such strong feelings and intense dedication....
Shiranui can immediately tell that his new opponent is a Psychic type of some sort, and starts getting pumped up yet again for this battle! Now he was fighting against TWO types he was at a disadvantage at, so this would be an EXCELLENT challenge for him, oh yeah! Basteele, however....well, she was EXTREMELY displeased when their arrival, as she absolutely DESPISED Fire types with all her heart and SOUL. She glared at them with such force that you'd think she was using the Move, and readied herself to destroy her opponent. They. Will. Be. Snuffed. OUT!
So much praise is given that Shiva takes it directly to her heart, awww! It increases the feeling that Terra, that wandering mountain of a man, was a good person despite looking so rough and tough and intimidating. Good choice for a person to take your spot, Venny. May you be blessed, wherever you currently roam...
She's taken aback however when being asked whether she's okay, now averting her gaze from these beautiful thistles and facing Terra with a wondering expression. "I'm...I'm fine, no worries! Even after roughly two months of traveling I seem to not being too used to my Pokemon fainting, I believe. The ones caught on the journey are my...well, first real OWN ones, maybe that's why... But, fainting is a definite part of battles, giving everything you got until you can't anymore - that's what you said, right?" That was the raw truth, and Shiva KNOWS that she'll have to get along with fainting if she wants to become a better Trainer-person. She's determined to accomplish that, hopefully a Pokemon that is dedicated to her will mind it less than one she hasn't bonded with yet.
The opening that that Foretress is named 'Basteele' AND doesn't mind...taking a beating as he said kinda catch her interest, alluring that infamous spark within her eyes behind glasses. Wonder whether she'll be able to take some fire power as well? "Ah, that's what your Forretress is called! Such a melodic name! Does it have a meaning?" ^^
Magical fox returns that greeting from his Master's foe in the battle, and swings his magic wand with a burning tip around a little to scatter flames all over the near surrounding. Some of them fall on the Spikes laying around, but it's not enough to do something about them. Dumb pointy pieces of iron sticking to his precious fur!

Terra Introductory Battle vs Shiva Round 4
Spikes deal 1 dmg to Delphox.
While Delphox is slow and lets the foes strike first due to being so focused or courteous, Tropius seems incredibly eager to DO SOMETHING before he'll go down. With a waving hand gesture of Shiva as a cue, he begins to flap his wings more fierce, casting a few gusts of wind directly into that big bulky Fighting Type! Now how do you like that, huh?
Gust 1
(6)(4)(5)(5)(1) Gust almost crits Shiranui!
(5) Shiranui takes 2 dmg 7/12hp -1 pain.
The Spikes rearrange themselves in the grass, and the grass waves in the breeze from the flying dinosaur.
Bug Bite 1 on Delphox
(5)(2)(3)(6)(4)(3)
(2)(5)(1)(3)(4) Delphox takes 2 dmg 6/9hp -1 pain +1 blaze
Knock Off 1
(5)(1)(3)(3)(3)(6)
(5)(4)(5)(1)(3) Delphox takes 4 dmg 2/9hp -2 pain +2 blaze
Delphox loses his Charcoal.
Delphox has survived long enough to use his new and powerful mystical fire attack against Basteele!
Mystical Fire 1
(4)(4)(6)(4)
(5)(5)(1)(5) Basteele takes 5 dmg and triggers Sturdy! The combination of Blaze and Rock Smash is a good one, as the heat reaches through the cracks in Basteele's armor.
Gust 2
(4)(1)(2)(5)
(5) Shiranui takes 2 dmg 5/12hp -2 pain.
Bug Bite 2
(1)(4)(3)
(5)(5)(6)(6)(6) Delphox faints! An amazing bite for one in such pain.
Knock Off 2
(5)(2)(6)(6)
(3)(3)(6)(3)(4) Tropius takes 2 dmg 2/10hp -2 pain.

"*Look of realization flashes across Terra's face* Ah. I see. Hm....seeing your Pokemon Faint can be worrying, but you will get used to it in time. *Nods* Yes, that is right. Fight with all you can, until you can not or its no longer a good idea to. That is the way of Pokémon Battles, or it is for me. You may find different meaning in battles, Shiva."
...
"Basteele's name? Hm...named her after a....fortress in Kalos (That France's equivilant in this world, right?) I read about once. Changed it a bit to fit her better, and....that is it. "

(Can't switch out, so I guess it's fine to reveal my next Pokemon openly?)
Being visibly stunned at her fox being defeated by that steely bug to mercilessly, Shiva immediately recalls him into the safetly of his ball, holding him close to her heart and whispering words of comfort and praise to him as well before packing it away and drawing another Ball in return.
It naturally PAAAINS her that Delphox wasn't able to accomplish what she hoped he would, but at least he made it to deal visible cracks within the Forretress' shell. Not much is missing anymore - by now it seems obvious to her that she's not really a match for Terra, but that doesn't mean that she would stop trying to give a good performance and do what she can! That power and toughness that he displays are kinda impressive to her.
Because the Bastille's a historically important building Shiva probably has no idea about it, apart from maybe having heard about it once. But she does certainly like the ring of that name and gives Terra her thanks for sharing.
From the tossed and caught-again Ball, a blue and white Pokemon sporting long ears of a rabbit pops out, making a backflip upon being summoned but squealing in shock as these nasty spikes pierce into her feet.

She too takes a stance of 'BRING IT ON!' as soon as having recovered from that, and shares an encouraged fist in the air with her sweet Master.

Basteele is hanging back for now, behind Hariyama.

Heart thanks the trainer. "Thank you my friend. Its kinda my job to find and befriend as many types of Pokemon. Both rare and common. I a Pokemon Rare Collector. "And most of all, I discovered at least a bit what kind of strength the Earthpower is capable. Earthpower is the greatest source of power to all Pokemon kind. Even for a few humans. "I will give a advice from someone who is in this journey for a long time: Sometimes is cool make your own journey alone. But it is nothing compared as make a journey with companions or even friends. You may sometimes fight against them and even say goodbye when they journey or yours end, but the memories you most hold dear is what truly matters. Someone only truly dies when that memory is forgot. Never forget that."
With that said Heart talk once again. "Heh, I sorry. I get myself babbling myself about this. I beg your pardon." Heart then talk again to his Gargoyle Pokemon. "Gargryph, you have doing a amazing job until now. If you want rest a bit I will let you return to the pokeball. Is your substitute stay here when you return to the pokeball?"
Mechanics: Ask if Gargryph want to rest and bring Typhon to the battlefield. And if the decoy stay on the field when return.
+1 XP for spreading the Earthpower!
"Don't apologize. Even we young trainers know there's more to being a trainer than Pokeballs and moves. I could feel it from the first moment I looked in another trainer's eyes."
I meant to give +1 Loyalty to Gargryph before that fight started, and with that in mind, he'd be happy to stay out.
If Heart wants to switch, that would be fine but the Substitute will not protect Typhon.
Heart was both happy and satisfy to see the Gargryph with more confident and will to fight. "In that case Gargryph, I must answear your will with same strengh! Gargryph and Golett gonna stay. Do your best you two!"

;P
And once again, being slower is actually somewhat beneficial! When it comes to both using and dodging Hypnosis, you don't want to be going first!
"Forthright, be careful. Noctowl are potentially able to do what Gallade just did, so be ready to avoid the bird's gaze if it's gonna try to put you to sleep! Other than that, you know what to do!"
Forthright looks uncertainly at Nathan again...but Nathan's confidence and assurances from Rhea and Tanuki seems to definitely be helping her. Alright...she's apparently doing well...she can do this...she still has her treat, too...she really wants to eat it right now, but Nathan said not to until he told her too...hmmm...
...well, okay then. Here we go...
Weather Ball x4!
Acc: 11 base - 4/5/6/7 Actions = 7/6/5/4 D6
Damage: 2 + 2 + 4 + STAB - 3 + SE = 6 D6 +1 Damage!
Note: Still Rock type!
Conditional Evasion (if Noctowl uses Hypnosis. Replaces a Weather Ball, obviously)
Evade: 5 + 3 + 3 - 4/5/6/7 = 7/6/5/4 D6
Note: Increased Evasion to 3 for 12 EXP! Dodging strong, low accuracy attacks is important and incredibly useful, after all!
And if Forthright has accumulated 3 or more damage, she gets the go ahead from Nathan to use her item!
And just cuz I can put it here and also to serve as a reminder, here's the image of Sandstorm Form Castform (which I've been calling Dusty Castform) which I happen to like a lot:
