The only thing that springs to my mind at the moment is introducing a foe that has a Base HP of 20 or more and making it decently strong/strong enough to deal some good damage to our Pokemon or even fainting some of our battlers before  finally succumbing. Plus making it unable to catch for fairness and preventing anyone in the party for having a bulky monster due to a successful Capture Roll.

Ones that springs to mind is the Reniculous Encounter and the Eremit Cave fights, all of which had strong defender/'defender' Pokémon the group had to fight, and require careful strategy/planning, but didn't require them having Plot Deviced Powers too much in order to be a credible threat. If we failed/died to them, it would have been more than fair in my eyes (Bar terrible dice luck), since if we dropped the ball THAT hard or were underprepared....well, its probably deserved (for a given value). More hypothetical example would be Challenging and Dynamic Swarm Encounters (Like what the Ancestor Cave fight(s) were, before MEW showed up), fighting REALLY challenging Trainers, Gauntlet Courses, Clever Puzzles/Traps and/or Ambushes, splitting up the party in some manner and putting conditions on their fights, Massively Overgrown Pokémon, or ones with their stats pumped up so they remain a threat (Hello Skull Ruins Pokémon/Ghosts in general!)…..I could keep on listing things, but I won't.

Colossally Bulky Pokémon fights are a good idea, but they aren't the only ones. As for capturing the bulky mon, Terra already has Lapis (Unless Iron had them killed off screen....), and the party could just sell them and split the profits among everyone if no one person wants another to get them, but I digress.

Ah, these are all good examples, thank you. My favorite is probably splitting or seperating the group from each other and giving each one a foe that they'll likely struggle with but have chances to win against unless being really unlucky, like that one time where a horde of Pokemon came to us within Mount Sentry or when Heart was trappend and had to defeat that Cryogonal first.

Concerning Ambushes, you all have points in Alert (I guess) while I'm ignoring that Speciality/favoring other, means it might be only Shiva who'd end up being attacked suprisingly. That's the way it is though! *shrugs*

So, ehm, on a different matter: We now have two Unown U, that one Heart caught and that shiny exemplar I spotted and had Raphael snatch before we escaped. That one's not yet registered to a Ball by Shiva, and before I decide whether I'll register it under Nathan's (she's still having one Pokeball from him) or her OT I'd actually like to know whether it'd be alright if it'll be given to Prof.Laurelin as a bonus IF it's safe to assume that she'd be interested in it in the first place. If there's a special reward for it, I'd like to see what it is at first before deciding what to do with it but I'd likely call dibs on it if it's something I can put into good use as Shiva took the risk to get that shiny all by her own. How does that sound?

I'm also feeling a little inclined now to join when the Unown are brought to the Professor, in order to ask whether she knows something about that strange mutated Eevee depicted in the mural. All in all it looks like we'll be staying at least another half Day in Cress City before departing to wrap up loose ends.
EDIT: Or Shiva could call/mail her father in an attempt to find out more about the role of genetics in Pokemon Breeding?

The only way we'll know for sure is to ask Laurelin herself.  And you can bet that Nathan is going to go talk to her about this trip to Ancestor Cave sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure it particularly matters if Laurelin gets a shiny one or not, though.  She only asked for 5 different letters, after all.

Hmmmm...Grid's at 4/4 for Happiness and Loyalty, and his whole gimmick is speedy shenanigans, plus Nathan still has that White Apricorn dust...hmm...that's certainly kinda tempting...

We cannot know what an NPC thinks or would be interested to have, only GM can. Though Shiny Pokemon sport a curiosity in their gene pool, so I'd guess Prof.Laurelin MIGHT want to have it and/or reward it in some way. Maybe!

I'm leaning into registering Shiny U to Shiva's OT and joining when the pack of Unown is handed to the professor to ask things myself if that's fine. Maybe not the same in-game Day though depending on the outcome of current things and how the Eevee family is doing after all the stress.

If you two don't mind, Terra will not be going to see Dr. Laurelin with the rest of the group, as he doesn't think he's need to go turn the Unown in, and he wants to do others things with his time. OOC, I don't want to be potentially stuck in a conversation that my chara. will have little or none to contribute to, so not attending and just having all relevant info sent via text (Implicitly and without writing up an actually response, if you want to be really quick about it!) to him would be for the best.

Oh, and if it turned out she was aware of the risk of the Unown summoning Pokémon from the mural, and DIDN'T tell Nathan about it.....well, that will be a real pisser if Terra finds out. For [I]her[I].

I don't mind at all, as your reasoning why you don't want to join is good enough! I mostly just want to turn in the shiny Unown if she wishes to have it and ask one or two questions, no long conversation. I still wish to join Terra on Berry-Foraging after all! :o

Good night for today.

I know.  I'm just offering my personal speculation.  Not saying we shouldn't tell her about it.

Fine with whatever you decide.  But as I said, Nathan's going to talk with Laurelin sooner rather than later.  Which means he wants to do so today if at all possible.

That's fine.  Nobody said you had to, and it's Nathan's quest anyways.

Yeah, Nathan's definitely asking about that.
