[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
Quote:"My name's Angela. If you call me Angie, I'll sic my Mawile on you." She shakes your hand, showing that she was just joking...maybe.

"I don't participate in the Cup unless I'm sure I can win first prize. This week, Anaster is participating, so I don't have a chance. I'm just here training; I like to fight Poison types. That's why I make my home in the swamp, actually."

Hehehehe, 'Angie'. Hah, and I was right on my outta-chara guess that that Gloom Shiva acquired has something to do with Angela!

"Angela's a fine enough name to not abbreviate it, haha!~" Shiva returns the handshake, but she does so a bit loosely - she doesn't have a firm grip. She has never heard of a person called 'Anaster' but she can easily guess that this person must be pretty strong, strong enough that Shiva chooses to rather not cross their path. She's feeling lucky that she won't as she's not even participating in the competitive part of the Cup.

As Angela mentiones to.....ENJOY fighting Poison Types, Shiva just stares at her for a few seconds in wonder, Delphox has to nudge her to awake her from that sudden stupor. Despite everything, her interest is caught now. "You.... you do? How that, if I may ask? Poison Types can be so nasty, I would n-never dare to approach one without one of my loyal Psychic Types...?" Shiva doesn't have to ask whether by 'in the swamp' she means the swamp behind Arrowroot Village, but even as she developes the thought that this woman could be the GYM LEADER of that place she doesn't change expression.

Quote:When you show her the spot:

"Oh, it's fine if you captured my Gloom. I'll just find another. That one is just used to battling me over and over, you see, but it's probably for the best if I don't get into a rut. Plenty of Gloom in the Safari Zone. It's even possible to find Bellossom here, you know. They're rare, but they do exist! Trace amounts of Sunstone mineral in the soil can trigger evolution, sometimes."

As Shiva can tell, the Gloom doesn't actually belong to Angela. She just felt a sense of ownership with it because they've been battling each other all week. You're not sure if Gloom would want to meet her now or not.

Oh.... Eh.... Damn, as Angela combines the words 'Gloom' and 'my' in one sentence, Shiva grows, like, SUPER-timid, she's blushing and pawns the ground with her feet and looks down to watch a very interested path of grass nearby to strictly avoid Angela's gaze and everything: It's a bit as if she has just received an unexpect decleration of love from a secret suitor, and on Shiva it happens to look incredibly adorable when she acts like that.

That, and she also starts to feel sorry, developes a bad feeling. "I... I had no idea about that, I'm so sorry! How was I supposed to have?! Please excuse me! But... I didn't do anything to that Gloom, I didn't take it with force, It really decided to come with me on free will after we've talked a bit! But, ah..." She lights up a bit, dares to make eye-contact with Angela for a split second. "...Just because that Gloom's having my OT and ID it doesn't mean that it has to stay with me - H-how about we let Gloom himself decide who of us two it wants to stick with? I'm having him on Bill's PC and I'm free at the moment, if you're too we can make haste to the gateway right away before all the partcipants of the Cup rush there."

I feel that's totally something my chara would do - Whatever Gloom will decide on, Shiva will respect it.

"Hmmm...worried about being homesick, huh?  Well, that's fair.  I miss home sometimes, too.  I've been traveling a lot, so...it's only natural, I guess.  As I said, though...I'll probably be visiting all those bodies of water where Dratini are said to live one day, likely including a revisit to this location, so it might not be goodbye forever.  And all my pokemon friends...well, I hope they can consider traveling with me a home away from home.  I try to do whatever I can to make sure the experience is both comfortable and enjoyable for them.  And hey, if you come along, there's some things ya might get to see that you'll probably have never seen otherwise.  For example..."

Nathan gestures Dratini closer so he can whisper the next part to the little dragon.

"...I have some leads on where the Legendary HMs for DIVE and FLY are located.  And I also happen to already have the HM for ROCK SMASH.  You'd have to be a fully evolved Dragonite before being able to learn any of them, but I'd be glad to help you get to that point...does that pique your interest a little more?  Oh, and if you need proof that I have the ROCK SMASH HM...both Solomon and Gallade know it, and would be happy to demonstrate for you."

Hmm, that's a good idea.

Alright. Dratini yields. She'll want to work hard toward evolving - that means lots of food and UltraSnax and traveling, and as much combat as she can stomach.

Each Monday, Dratini has a chance to grow a little extra, thanks to the care of a Trainer. She needs to have done the following in the week to be eligible:

1. Eaten an UltraSnax or equivalent $$ of food
2. Done a training session
3. Gained XP from battle.

Then you will roll Insight + Knowledge + Lore OR Earthpower - Dratini's HP.
If you have at least one success, Dratini gains 1 HP and 1 foot of length.
When she reaches 13HP, she's full grown!
Oh, and her shed skin each successful Monday is worth $1600.

Gotcha! Shiny Dratini was caught!

Fun fact: Angela was originally named Morgana. Then Windos put that name in his backstory and I changed it to avoid confusion.
Then Angie showed up...

"I enjoy fighting Poison-types because they are a challenge. I mostly train Fairy types, and I'm very good, so I need to fight at some kind of disadvantage if I want my Pokemon to grow."

"Don't worry about it, Shiva!! No need to feel bad. You weren't to know." Angela manages to make it sound like it WAS Shiva's fault, because that's just the kind of person Angela is.

"Like I said, Gloom are common, and that one was beginning to bore me. If you want to, we could hunt down another Poison type together and I'll show you how to beat them even at a disadvantage. I'm sure your supervisors won't mind you VOLUNTEERING to help me, a Safari-goer."

Yeah, I think it makes sense for her to be female too Tongue  And lol, that's an amazing incentive for us to actually buy UltraSnax for once. And ooh, she's even slightly bigger than average Dratini...Pokedex data in the games says that even young ones can be up to 6'6" long!

"Glad to have ya on board, Dratini.  Hmmm...I'm gonna have to give ya a nickname to avoid confusing you with the young one, though...what about about...hmmmm...Mizu?  Could also consider it short for Mizuchi."  (Mizu is simply Japanese for 'water', and can be used as a name for both boys and girls.  Mizuchi is a serpent-like dragon/water deity from Japanese lore.)

Quick OOC question: is that Loyalty score with the Noble Ancestry bonus accounted for already?

In a Safari Ball the pink, sparkling Dratini goes!  Seaking is sent to the PC to make room for her right away!

No, it doesn't include the Noble Ancestry.

Terra's no so much uncomfortable as he's more caught off guard when his gregarious ghost shoves the Spell Tag into his skull, blinking at the sight before he tilts his head at them and frowns with concern.

"Are you okay? Don't know much about Ghosts, so you.......holding Spell Tag like that has me worried."

Presumably they give some indication that he's fine (Most likely in the rudest way possible), and the sagely monk nods back, relieved, before his expression tightens up as he slowly and dramatically told them of his day plan

".....Duskull, I am going to the Safari Zone today. It is a qild place, where Pokemon are fierce, strong, and.....independent. Has six Areas, and highest number one are the most dangerous. Full of powerful Pokemon, like Nidoking. I will be going there....and so will you. To explore, to catch Pokemon, and to Survive. Doing that.......we will become stronger and closer than before. I will  keep my promise, and prove myself to you. *Beat* Understand?"

Ah. Well, Angela's words manage to make Shiva feel better, but not enough to unburden her of that nasty feeling that she has snatched that Gloom from her. Now our natural fae enthusiast is at least confident enough to face Angela again, if given a bit of time and distraction she'll probably soon become more safe and forget about these ironic happenings.

The opening that here in front of her she's having ANOTHER fae enthusiast is already a good distraction, and a biiiig smile forms on Shiva's expression. "You mostly train Fairy Types? I.... I do too, yes I do, I really really like these whimsical and magical Pokemon, indeed!" Within a second, Shiva has turned from SUPER-timid to SUPER-avid, she practically can't wait to see Angela's Pokemon and skills in action and shivers with excitement now. "I've got time, I'm free, we can go off right away, yes!~ Please, show me how I can beat even those mean Poison Types when the Pokemon I'm choosing to face it is my much beloved Cottonee. There.... There were a lot of Whirlipede and even a biiig Scolipede I ran into when exploring this area the day before the Cup, it's not that far from here! Oh, and.... Is it okay if my Togekiss can watch as well? I'm.... I'm, eh, sure it'll be a helpful demonstration for both of us!" ^o^

In silent and completely hidden from Angela, Shiva's actually very awed by her boldness to actively search out Poison Types when her favoured Type is Fairy, Shiva hopes/feels that this beautiful woman will subtly help her handling her fear of toxic Pokemon in a more controlled way.

----------------------------
Mechanics:
A Fairy Type Gym Leader, ahhhhhhhhh! *faints in sheer excitement* Another NPC I happen to really like. Gloom will stay with me then, off Shiva and Angela are to find a poisonous wild Pokemon - Shiva and Raphael will pay close attention how Angela handles the situation.

"*Sigh* Guess choice we dont have it seems. Gustav! Use 3 Muddy Water on those Gligars! They dont stand a chance against your strong water moves! Focus on those Gligar, but dont hit that strange looking Pikachu! Onix! Use three Rock Slide in the most weakned Gligar!"

When one of those Gligar get enough Pain with -2 or -3 of Pain penalization, I gonna use 2 Safari Balls. Want to capture at least one of them.

Muddy Water Accuracy: Dex (5) + Fight (4) + Channel (3) - Actions (3/4/5) = 9D6/8D6/7D6
Damage: Power (3) + STR (4) + STAB (1) + SE (1) = 8D6+1
Effect: D3 to reduce foe accuracy. Its also hit all foes.

Rock Slide Accuracy: Dex (5) + Fight (4) + Channel (3) - Accuracy (1) - Actions (3) = 8D6/7D6/6D6
Damage: Power (3) + STR (4) + STAB (1) = 8D6
Effect: D3 to flinch the foe.

Extra notes: Dont forget Onix is holding the everlink armor, so he have a natural 6 defense.

I already responded to this.

Cool, so that bumps that Loyalty value up to 3, then.  And I guess Mizu doesn't mind the nickname, so...all that remains of that encounter is how much exp Juliet, Solomon, and Nathan got for the Seaking and Shiny Dratini encounter.

And there's also Nathan's final encounter in the Safari Zone before the tournament!  Gonna still hang around Area 6!  He has 9 Safari Balls remaining!  Not really looking for anything in particular now, but Calam is hanging around, just in case anything happens.  Nothing terrible's happened to Nathan so far, but you can never be too sure with the Safari Zone...

Of course, Calam's presence also means that Fairy types are more likely to show up.  Let's see what pops up, if anything...or maybe it'll just cause Angela to appear.  *shrug*
