[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole
Terra uses the Pick.
(5)(5)(2) 2 successes. You find a Sunstone and a three shards of petalglass.
(5)(3)(5) Another 2 successes. Diggersby finds a Revive crystal and a piece of fireglass.

Shiva uses the chisel.
(5)(2) She gets a Sunstone and a shard of dawnglass.
(4)(2) This time she finds a mold fossil, an imprint of an ancient flower. It doesn't look like it'll have any DNA, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.

"Nice to meet you at last, Nathan! Thanks for helping me out way back when. As I think I mighta mentioned, I've been catching up a storm. Hope you haven't surpassed me. Here's one I caught and managed to evolve!"

He sends out a Marshtomp.

Sentry: (5)
Marshtomp: (5) + 3 Dex + 5 Survival

(Oh yeah, before I forget, Sentry is holding the Leftovers)

"Nice to finally meet you too, Flick!  Well, we'll see about that!  My first pokemon is an old, old species!  I'm probably the only trainer that currently has one!  Sentry, it's finally time for your battle debut!  Hope you're bringing your best to this battle, Flick!  I don't usually go easy on my opponents!"

The large Primal Tropius towers over the tiny swamp pokemon (Marshtomp are only 2' tall, and Sentry is at least 7'!), and is probably making Marshstomp a little nervous because of the combination of both that and the fact that it's facing what's obviously a Grass type.  (Though they'll see soon enough that Sentry doesn't have any Grass moves to exploit that advantage).  Sentry takes one look at her opponent, looks back at Nathan (who nods to give her the go ahead), and then with a surprisingly quick swipe of her long tail across the ground, instantly summons a Sandstorm with her Ability, increasing her Defense by 2 (total of 6)!  Her defenses shall not be penetrated easily!  She will stand tall over this foe!

No Holds Barred!Exploration - Xenoblade Chronicles 2

"Let's start setting ourselves up for success in the long run, Sentry!  Let's add some pressure to their side of the battlefield, then press the attack!"

Sentry scatters sharp rocks all over the opposing side of the battlefield! They're dormant for now, but whenever the opponent switches...

Stealth Rock 1
Acc: 6* + 5 Survival + 2 Stealth - 5 Act = 8 D6
Eff: Sets up Stealth Rock on the opposing side of the field, causing 1 damage to all opponents every time they switch in!
Note: Damage is typeless in the book, apparently

...and she follows up with quick slashes from her tail that are strong enough to break bark and fell trees, even though the attack itself isn't the strongest among pokemon moves!

Cut 2-5
Acc: 6* + 4 + 4 - 6/7/8/9 = 8/7/6/5 D6
Dmg: 2 Pow + 5 Str = 7 D6 base
Note: Rare move, even though it isn't the full powered HM!

Let's see if Marshstomp can overpower Sentry's defenses, or if she can defeat Marshstomp with little else but chip damage backed by raw Strength and Speed!

Conditional Order: If Marshstomp starts charging Bide, use Leer to punish that action by lowering Marshstomp's Defense without increasing Bide's potential damage output! Her glare shall assert her dominance! She is not a mere defenseless herbivore!
Conditional Order 2: If Stealth Rock 1 fails for some reason, continue using it until it's set up as long as that's possible.
Conditional Order 3: If Marshstomp uses Dynamic Punch, attempt to Evade it!

Sentry looks very proud of her firm defenses!  That Marshstomp couldn't touch her!

"I want to see how you plan to handle Sentry, and she still has a lot to learn, so she's staying out!  Technically, yes, she is native to Creshire.  However, she's not native to modern Creshire.  I had to revive her from a fossil!  Sentry is a Primal Tropius, a species from the region's ancient history!  Not to boast, but I've got quite a collection of rare pokemon from my travels! I won't be able to show off all of them, of course, but I'll see if I can surprise ya with a few more of them."

"Alright, speaking of surprises, this guy knows some cool moves!"

He sends out Empoleon.

Hmmm...alright then.  Oh yeah, and Sentry's Leftovers restore 1 HP, so she's back at full HP again! Tongue By contrast, the Stealth Rocks start glowing, then crash into Empoleon, dealing 1 damage to it before they settle back in their original positions, patiently waiting for their next target!  Like this moment in the anime:

(Don't be fooled by Elekid's confident look.  Those rocks took him by surprise!)

"Alright Sentry, rinse and repeat!  Leer, and then hit that Empoleon with some more rocks!  We don't have much to hit that thing with, so let's just do our best! Take it a little slower this time, though, alright?"

Sentry looks a little confused at that second to last statement for a second, and actually looks back at Nathan questioningly.  She doesn't quite fully understand it because she totally has a move that could defeat that Empoleon lickety split, and her young mind totally wants to use it because she doesn't completely understand the concept of why they might want to keep the move a secret.  Nathan just shakes his head though, and Sentry redirects her attention back to the battle to carry out the given orders! Very well, if she must...she still won't let that penguin break her defenses very easily! She'll break its defenses instead with a rain of rocks!

(Time to spend some EXP!)
-79xp is spent for Hida to learn Flamethrower and Clear Smog (now at 1)
-16xp is spent for Spira to increase Crafts to 3 (now at 9, if my math is right)
also, how much cash do I get, and is the Brandy volatile/flammable?

Spira looks at Howl quizzically when he reacts that way to the name, if he had to guess that reaction would constitute recognition. Once things 'cool down' after the battle, Spira asks Howl, "Considering the way you reacted earlier, how do you know her name? That girl never even had the chance to leave Sinnoh, so how?" Despite the interrogative nature of his questions, Spira tries to remain calm.

Simple, but heartfelt praise from the sagely monk. Not exceptionally rare from him, yet still a much valued thing he gives!(...)

Oh.... It did take Shiva a tad bit off-guard to be prasied for her success here, causing her to timidly look away from Terra and instead muster the suuuper-interesting stony ground. "...You think so? *happy blushing* That's very dear of you, thank you!~" A bit hasty and rushed, she adds "B...B-but it wasn't that hard maybe, I was a having a clear advantage with Primal Glaceon here against that turtle! You others are...more natural and enthusiastic fighters than I am! >o< ....E-either way, thank you, haha." Being called a 'Wise Woman' is still flattering her a lot, but it only shows on the outside by a inwardly smile of hers.

Her inner voice speak up to her, asking her that she can gladly accept such praise - 'My dear, you deserve it! Come on, it's fine. Rejoice a bit about his honest words, will you?~'

Shiva's being extra-mindful about her mining, she's knows what she's searching for and she probably wouldn't want to leave until she has managed to achieve what she longs for, the chisel is perfect for that and she's learning to to use it fastly. All her craftings have trained her hands to handle such delicate tasks quite decently, yay!~

Just when she has started to work on a low-hanging stalacite, she manages to catch a glimpse on it: There's a tiny lil' bit of that typical red shine only the sunniest of stones could radiate!! She holds back a screech of excitement and eagerly gets to baring it, careful not to accidently break it. Then, some minutes later, she can finally reach out and close her hand around it, she holds her finiding high to get a good look at it in the light Delphox's magical torch:

It's a real and authentic Sunstone, freshly mined, and it's hers. Her heart can barely handle that fact, it is rejoicing~, it is singing~ and celebrating~; it was undenyable that now she will be able to fulfill her most beloved Pokemon's greatest wish: That simple insight already brough tears to her eyes that she was quick to wipe away with the sleeve of her Ranger's Cloak before Terra could start to worry whether something's wrong with her and before any of her Pokemon could get a false impression and desire to comfort her.

Still, a faint sob of delight escaped her nevertheless as she smiled down at this precious stone she was now holding, for how long has she waited for that moment?!~ It's a wonderful reward for this job down the mines, and it's all Shiva could ask for. Instantly she retrives Cottonee's Pokeball, currently a new and fresh one instead of the one she came in from the side of Professor Mallorn, and shows her her finding through the transparent half. "*delightful and melodic chuckling* ...Look what I've just found, my dear one... Yes, sure it has your name engraved on it. ^^ You've gotta be patient for just a bit longer though~!" (In short, @Iron, Shiva's showing Cottonee the stone without actually summoning her, how does she react to it?)

Ah, and dawnglass is suuuper-pretty, but not as pretty as her special shard of duskglass she's wearing as a charm! But she enjoys how it is giving off a tiiiiny bit of that typical sparkling of the matching Evolution Stone. That ancient flower fossil is another nice piece for her collection of small treasures she has gathered in her journey through the region, aww!~ Is it, maybe, a flower/plant she recognizes? It's likely extinct, but she has read about prehistoric plants once or twice at home.

Once everything's been wrapped up, she soon meets up with Terra again, shows him eagerly what she has found and asks whether he too ended up being lucky - (Windos, this is the moment were we could handle out whether your Sunstone switches ownership or not, we can flashback to this, alright?) - and, of course, thanks him for his aid with this trip to the mine. "That was great fun, happy that you agreed to spend the morning with me here! I hope you enjoyed it as well...?" She would also give him a hug, but knowing that he's not much into that she instead goes for an appreciating pat on his broad shoulders. "Let us get going then and meet up with the forman again, shall we...? I've got some business to do in town, busy. But, we'll surely see one another again, Terra, the latest tomorrow morning!~"

Mechanics:
Unless there's anything to add from GM's side, that should wrap up the Mining Encounter then. That was fun!~ I'll continue with Shiva's further actions and plans then.

She was just checking the time on her cell on her way back to the local Pokemon Center, now with her Ranger's Cloak off and her messy hair comfortable opened again. It appears that within the Mine she didn't have any cell reception, or she just turned it off, but either way she spots Heart's message just now.

She makes haste to arrive at the Pokemon Center where she'll instantly approach the current Nurse Joy in duty to carefully hand her her injured Gloom - "Stone Edge by a wild Pokemon happened, that's a naaasty move...! The worst wounds are treated, but please, can you take care of him until he's up and about again? ... It's okay, Gloom, don't worry too much, you'll be in professional hands. Let them care for your injuries and don't fend them off with your scent, alright? I'm trusting in you concerning that!"

Phew, with that worry off her mind, she finds the next free table and some snacks and texts back to Heart that shea inside the Pokemon Center at the moment where she can meet up with him, and when they eventually do there or actually wherever, she'll greet him excitedly. "Hello Heart!~ Got your message, and yes, I'd be happy to trade for this TM that teaches a Pokemon how to release a wave that'll SHOCK the foe guaranteed! ^o^ Kyuu would rejoice over it for sure. What, ehm, would you want to have for it? ...1000$, maybe? With all those Move Tutors dwelling here, that could be useful. Oh, or speaking about Tutors, I could help a Pokemon of yours to master a new move in return, as well. Your choice! But, ehm, definitely not today, I've got things to do, I'm sorry."
