[Game thread] Skull Ruins Pokerole

To say that Basteele was infuriated from getting flamed by Pidgeot would be a grave understatement. In an instant, her already belligerent demeanor turn downright apoplectic as she quadruple downed on her efforts to eradicate the bastard bird before her. NO ONE USES FIRE ON HER AND GETS AWAY WITHOUT A SEVERE THROTTLING, CCCRRRRRRRRRRRNNN!

Unfortunately, all that added aggression did was make her attacks sloppier and less effectual against her newfound nemesis.....right up until she EXPLODED in fury and glee when given the go ahead from her partner. She wasn't conscious long after doing it, but in that brief span of time before then she witness the cataclysmic defeat of her feathered foe and rejoiced, for they truly got what they deserved. No one uses Fire on her, without getting burned themselves.

Meanwhile with Terra, he endured his now spent bombshell's EXPLOSION with calm aplomb, inured to it as he was and also pleased himself with its results. Tanuki's own joyous reaction in the wake managed to elicit some eye blinking and a small frown, though, as such a reaction in many ways was the last thing he expected from someone who's beloved Pokemon got blow to kingdom come. Then again the Gym Leader was hardly a normal sort of girl, ironically enough, and her positivity meant she held no grudge against him for that, so perhaps it was all for the best.

Still, with the battlefield now thoroughly and irreparably altered by the events thus far, the steely brawler couldn't help but do a bit of grandstanding, as he recalled Basteele and fixed The Lady Extraordinare with grave seriousness.

"You are tough woman, Tanuki. Forced my partner to Faint to take out yours, and switch out earlier. Both things Dagny could not do, in my battle against her. *Nods* Well done. But."

*Sweeps arm across the battlefield*

"....But it has afforded you naught. Your arena is ruined. Basteele's Hazards cover all your side, Melly's Electric Field grants me great boons, and your pipes are gone. All your advantages and gimmicks are gone. The battlefield is no longer yours, Tanuki."

*Clenches a Fist at her in front of his chest*

"It is mine."

He plucks his next Pokeball off his belt, and throws out onto the field, uttering one last bold oneliner as he did so:

"And so is victory."

In a flash, out comes Shiranui.....except not! Its Oinari Tomoe, disguised as the big old sumo wrestler! If Tanuki was going to employ some trickery of her own to try and take him down, its only fair play he does the same! Externally she acts just like them, but internally she was eager to Fight and prove herself to her new leader, in spite of her weakness! She didn't expect her first fight under him (or perhaps first fight at all) to be against such a strong opponent, and so soon at that, but that just goes to show how much faith he had in her! If he's giving her this chance, then she'll not let him down and have a fun messing with her opponents, in that order!

(Ready for Initiatives, Iron!)

Not having any idea what Terra will get up to next - an advantage of having both Pokemon faint at the same time - Tanuki sends out her most generalist Pokemon - a fluffy overstuffed Zigzagoon who's always full of surprises! The advantage of this strategy is that you never know which of her fleet of Zigzagoon she has sent out!

Zigzagoon: (2) + 6* Dex + 6* Survival = 18
Shiranui/Oinari: (1)

Tanuki flinches a little at the sight of the burly boxer. : /

The mountain of a man couldn't help but frown at the sight of the floofed up raccoon dog, as he too was keenly aware of the versatile unpredictability and savage ferocity the sub-species of Pokemon was capable of. One too many times he ran afoul of a colony of them and their older Evo, and paid the price severely as they swarmed enmass to try and rend him and his partners to pieces! He's definitely going to take great care with this little beast!

Despite his caution, though, Terra was also somewhat confused by the Zigzagoon too, mainly because.....

".....Why is your partner still Zigzagoon? You are a skilled, tough trainer, so should have all your Pokemon Evolved...."

Its a valid question, for the big man. Not everyday he sees a top class trainer/high tier Gym Leader have anything less than fully Evolved and brutally strong Pokemon, after all.

That said, he proceed to immediately giving out his commands for the round to his impostor 'Fighter' !

"Partner, [b]use their own Strength against Zigzagoon. Take them down quickly, and do your best. And remember: never give up."

Orders: 5 Foul Plays from Oinari, on the quintuple! If something would prevent her from using Foul Play, though, then switch to Pursuit. Hopefully her Illusion affords her some opportunity before it falters, but regardless its time for Terra's dark darling's inaugural  battle! Let the best fluffy critter win!

Move

Foul Play
Accuracy: 13D6* - 5/6/7/8/9 Actions = 8/7/6/5/4D6 Dice
Damage: Foe STR + 3 + STAB
Effect: Uses Foe's STR instead of Tomoe's own!

Gym Leader Tanuki Round 5

That's right, Ziggy takes the 2 damage from entry hazards. 5/7hp

"She's a Zigzagoon because I like them! They are far cuter than Linoone, and only a little slower. Their zigzags can be unpredictable in battle. For this Zigzagoon, there's also one more reason she hasn't evolved, which I'll tell you later. ; )"

Zigzagoon's static builds up as it races erratically past the destroyed plastic. When it looks like it's about to brawl with Shiranui, it dances away instead and releases the charge. "Zigzagoon! Thunderbolt, then dodge any Fighting moves!"

Thunderbolt 1
(6)(3)(6)(2)(6)(5) (5)(5)
4* Str + 3 power -6 vit = 1d6
(6) Zorua takes 2 dmg and the illusion is broken. 7/8hp
CD: (3)

"OH! Aww! Nothing to fear, eh Zigzag? Or am I wrong? Only one way to find out!"

Foul Play 1
(4)(3)(2)(6)(6)(1) (5)(4) A crit - not bad for Zorua's first move in battle!
4** Str + 3 power +1 STAB -4* Vit = 6d6
(5)(3)(3)(4)(3)(4) Zigzagoon took just 1 damage due to Fur Coat! 4/7hp
"That's right! I worry that if Zigzagoon evolved into sleek Linoone, her ability would become something else.

Thunderbolt 2
(5)(1)(4)(3)(1)(6) (3)(6)
(5) Zorua takes 1 dmg 6/8hp
CD: (6) Zorua was paralyzed!

Foul Play 2
(6)(4)(3)(2)
(5)(5)(4)(6) Zigzagoon took 2 dmg 3/7hp -2 pain

Thunderbolt 3
(5)(4)(6)(2)(5)
(4) Zorua takes 1 dmg 5/8hp -1 pain, still paralyzed

Foul Play 3
(2)(2)(3) Miss! As the battle goes on, Zorua gets slower and Zigzagoon gets faster.

"Getting tired! Prepare for his next Pokemon, Ziggy! \o"

Defense Curl 4
(2)(5)(6)(1)(4)
+1 Def for Ziggy

Foul Play 4
(6)(2)
(3)(5)(5) Nothing, thanks to that staticky Fur Coat!

Thunderbolt 5
(5)(4)(4)(3)
(1) Zorua takes 0 dmg 5/8hp

Foul Play 5
(5)
(5)(2)(3) Nothing.

Leftovers heal 1 HP, Zigzagoon now at 6/7hp.
Sitrus berry also heals her to 8/8hp.

(Hey Iron, remember the entry Hazards! Even Zigzagoon's Thick Coat can't protect against the Damage of those, unless you says it can somehow! That, and remember that Oinari only has a - 1 HP Surprise, not Vitality, so she still benefits from Terra's *6 Defense! That means she only took 3 Damage from that Round [As it stands], which means she uses her Sitrus Berry to fully restore her HP at the end of it! Altogether, that gives her the chance to actually crit on her first Foul Play, and hit her 3rd and last ones [again, as it stands]! That's a LOT of changes that could shake up the Round in Terra's favor!)

".....Hm, *Nods* Okay. Like strong and Tough Pokemon myself, but Cute Pokemon are good too. Friend back home used her.....adorable Altaria to win many Contest, so cute looks have own advantages."

Terra's interest was piqued when Tanuki teased him with withheld Knowledge about her fluffy raccoon dog, but he didn't press her for the details just yet. There would be time enough in the world to grill her about her Pokemon after he finished his Gym Battle with her, for better or worse!

(Un)Fortunately for him, his curiosity was sated when his trickster kitsune first attack ended up doing zlitch despite the force behind it, causing his eyebrows to rocket up in surprise as he bore witness to Lady Extraordinare's Zizagoon's durability.

"Ah. I see. Hm.....good reason to keep Zizagoon unEvolved in that case. Like how Trainer back home keep Vigeroth from Evolving. Slaking very, but not many want to deal with its laziness. *Eyes narrow* Let us see if their Fur Coat can hold up against my Strength."

The end result of the round left Terra.....well, I can't entirely say just yet, until the appropriate edits are made. What I can mention, though, is that he politely disagreed with the Abnormal Gym Leader, shaking his head lightly as he smiled down on Tomoe.

"No. My skill alone is not what makes Oinari strong. She was born that way. She is smart, talented, and fast. And she will only become more mighty, swift and cunning someday. No matter what. *Looks directly at his fox?* Right?"

Tomoe's reaction?

"*Looks back up to Tanuki, serious* We will keep fighting, until we can not. Tomoe, lower Zigzagoon's guard, and use mind instead of body to attack. Show them you will not be stopped easily."

Orders:  Since the Sitrus Berry will leave Tomoe with 5/8 HP instead of 2/8 HP at the end of the Round, she'll stay out unless you retroactively decide Tanuki uses Thunderbolt as her 4th Action instead and that knocks her down to 3 HP or less! If she's out, she'll use Fake Tears and then Extrasensory two times against Zigzagoon! If Tanuki decides she wants to switch out her Ziggy, though (IE: Tomoe ended up doing enough Damage to force a switch), switch next Move to Pursuit (If it's legal to use it like that, since Pursuit is able to hit a Pokemon before they are switched out, but you ruled that switches/Moves immediately end a Round/pause it, so it's a bit of a gray area)! This fluffy fox won't let her weakness and Paralysis put the brakes on her, so let her keep go go going!

Moves:

Fake Tears: 10*D6 Dice - 2 DEX - 1 Pain (If she has it) 3 Actions = 4D6 Dice
Effect: - 2 Defense on Target!

Extrasensory: 11*D6 Dice - 2 DEX - 1 Pain - 4/5 Actions = 4/3D6 Dice
Damage: 2-4D6 Damage
Effect: *Flinch 1*

Note: If these things I spotted would radically change the results of this Round, give me warning so I can change my orders.

Tomoe rewards your faith with starstruck eyes. She LIKES Gym battles! She feels she's doing very well - I'm not entirely sure she's correct objectively, but she is doing amazing for a new pup.

Pursuit should work in my campaign - a Pokemon will see it as a cheap, Dark move, but it's entirely legal and not considered bad sportsmanship by humans. The extra damage could be flavored as a second attack that happens as the Pokemon is retreating. It can take up the first action of a new round, just the way you wanted to use it, but that would lock you into a set of actions before you know the enemy Pokemon...
...or it could be that if your final action of the previous round was Pursuit followed by an escape, it deals extra damage...but then you lose priority...

I need to think on this one I guess, but fortunately it's not relevant just yet. Ziggy stays in.

Gym Leader Tanuki Round 6

"We've got your number now, Zorua!! Let's shed a bit of that coat, Ziggy! Pin Missile!!"

Pin Missile 1-5
(3)(2)(6)(2)(3)(5) (3)(5)
(1)(5)(3)(4)(4)(4) (6) Critical hit!
(6)(6)(4)(3)(4) (4) Critical hit!
(1)(4)(1)(1)(1) Ok, a miss. Zorua scrambles behind some rubble as she flees the onslaught of itchy missiles.
(1)(1)(3)(3) Another bad luck on Ziggy's part. Hit 1 time, crit 2 times.
3 str +1 power + 2 crit is still just 1 minimum dice.
(5)
(3)
(4) Zorua takes 5 dmg 3/8hp -2 pain.

Tanuki has somewhat put all her eggs in one basket here, as Ziggy is working to regrow her coat.

Fake Tears 1
(4)(3)(6)
-2 defense on Ziggy, now back to normal

Extrasensory 2-3
(3)(3)(6)
(3)(3)(4)
(4)(2)(1)(6)
(1)(2)(5)(5) Zigzagoon takes 4 dmg 2/7hp -2 pain
CD: (5), (6)

The sagely monk own eyes light up at his dark darling's joy, and a wide grin alights upon him as he firmly nodded back to her.

"Right. Let us do this, Oinari. Show Tanuki our combined power."

Sure enough, they did, enduring a wicked fast barrage of fibrous needles before giving the brown and cream coloured 'coon one heck of a mental workout, enough to make the cringe! That's the power of partnership and SPIRITED DETERMINATION! Beware the deceiver, and her wily tricks!

Of course, Tomoe suffered greatly herself in that exchange, looking thoroughly worn out and ready to collapse from getting so thoroughly zapped and pricked. Still, she held herself firm and ready the best she could, panting as she grinned wickedly winsomely at Zigzagoon. Though she is weak in body, she still had the mind and spirit for another Round! You'll have to do more to beat THAT out of her so easily!

Despite her eagerness, though, Terra let out a short whistle to get her attention, before motioning back towards him.

"Stop, Oinari. Return. Match-up against Zigzagoon not in your favor now, and not right to push you further now. You've proven yourself worthy enough, and now is for you to rest."

The wind was taken right out of her sails as her leader's decree, and she gazed at him with earnest disappointment, puppy dog eyes and dropping tail in full force as she tried to convince him to let her stay out. She could beat the 'coon dog, count on it! The mountain of a man was not dissuaded as he continued to stare at her with authoritative expectation, so with a reluctant huff she padded back over to his side, looking forlorn yet still determined and full of resolve. This was not the outcome of her battle she'd hoped for, but it was one she could live with. One day, she'll become strong enough tough out any battle, but today is not that day....

Secretly, though, so was a little relieved she didn't have to get anymore ouchies, but good luck ever finding that out! She wants to be tough like her leader, so she can't so any weakness, even if she really really wanted to!

Once the crafty kitsune was safely by his side and off the battlefield, Terra sent Melly out to take her place, whom took one good look at her weakened opponent before her tail started waggling something fierce as her eyes glimmer with predatory playfulness! Oh boy boy boy, a Zigzagoon! She LOVED chasing them around sooooo much (and/or eating them,  but that was a BIG no no with ones owned by trainers!), so this was battle was going to be fun fun FUN!

(Switching out Tomoe for Melly! Come forth, Initiatives!)

Melly still has a (3) from earlier. Tanuki doesn't switch because entry hazards would punish her too much, so Ziggy is going first. Zigzagoon's hair immediately stands up on end again when Melly's presence supercharges the Electric Terrain.

Zigzagoon is flinched and has 3/7hp after Leftovers.

Seeing that the raccoon dog was going to stay out, Terra conveyed a short, simple order to his living blitzkrieg: "Melly, zap them." Nothing more need be said.

Order: 4 Discharge on the Zigzagoon, unless they don't work somehow, in which case switch to Frost Breath! That's all! That 'coon is done for!

Move:

Discharge!
Accuracy: 10D6 Base - 1 Pain - 4/5/6/7 Actions = 5/4/3/2D6 Dice
Damage: 6D6 Damage + Electric Terrain Boost
Effect: *Paralyze 3*
Note: Frost Breath has the same rolls as Dis., minus the E.T. Boost and Paralysis
Double Note: Melly is currently at 9/11 HP

Tanuki crosses her fingers. If Zigzagoon can survive just one attack, she has a chance!

Discharge 1
(2)(6)(5)(1)(6)
(1)(6)(4)(5)(2)(3) (3) Bzzt! Zigzagoon faints.
