[Meta Thread] Lord Windos' PokeRole Adventure 2: The Wild Lands
(05-08-2025, 07:22 AM)Redstone Wrote: Oh yeah on the topic of surprises how do they work again? The one thing I can renember is that you can spend exp to get them lol.

Sounds like there's a list somewhere since the cost is variable?

I have a list somewhere, but I recommend not worrying about them for now. Surprise! purchasing is more of an Mid to End game thing when your Mons are fully decked out Move/Stat wise, unless you have a wild idea for teaching a Mon a Move it can’t normally learn but would massively benefit it .

In that last case, Buying a non Learnset Move for a Mon is 10 + Highest Lv = XP that the Move is learnable. For EX: If Stone Edge had a Pokémon that learnt it at Lv 100 , then you could teach a Mon that doesn’t learn it naturally for 110 XP .

I reserve the right to deny Move purchases if I think they would not fit, are too OP, or the Move you’re trying to buy is a Sig Move and/or heavily Plot Deviced (No, you can NOT buy Judgement for your Rattata) .

Thank you for that info, though there is a question I have about certain moves.

Lets say I want to get Lani Scale Shot, she does get this by tm in the games. The only pokemon that learns it naturally in gen 9 is roaring moon and that does not have a level listed, it can solely be taught with the move reminder. How would the cost look there?

Treat it like it was a lv 1 Move or different?

*Looks things up*

...Okay, this legit is interesting.

In cases like this, where the Move effectively has a 1 XP Cost (the bar min) and a LOT of Pokemon can ONLY learn it via TM or Tutor.....

Normally, if the Move is in a Mon's Learnset but not via Level Up (Such as an Egg, TM, or Tutor Move), I would go with the cost being 10 + Lowest Lv the Move Can be learnt. While I could do so here, I feel like letting over 40 Mons effectively get a Multi-Hit Move that boosts DEX for 11 XP would be a mite bit too convenient . So for most Non-Dragons, the Move can only be learnt via TM or by Tutor cost. For most Dragons, the Move would cost 35 XP - not too high, but not too low to be an easy grab either.

In the case of a Pseudo Dragon though....things can be more lenient. Especially in the case of Lani's species line - I can easily see more canny and pragmatic members of the species learning how to weaponize their own natural armor in such a manner. So I will say it'd cost her 20 XP to learn the Move, and it's Stats would be: STR + 1 , Multi-Hit (Can hit 2 - 5 Times) , - 1 Accuracy, Lower Defense by 1 and Increase Dex by 1 when used the first time (Dex boost does NOT stack with Dragon Dance).

Yeah i dont know how many moves this applies to but im sure there are more then just this instance, though I can't recall any rn.

That does sound tempting, Can stack it with BPEX to negate the def drop and basically use a half dragon dance while attacking.

Lastly just one more thing about stamina, does it interact with body press the way I think it does (doubled stat is used, even more deadly with iron defense)? If so i know what im horse saving up for lol.

Weird edge case right there, but that's why I'm hear to help!

Yup - Buffs and Debuffs don't override each other like that (nor stack) in most cases (unless you get hit with a stronger buff/debuff) , so you would effectively have + 1 DEX and both + 1 Defense and - 1 Defense after all Moves are used.

Indeed - Stamina doubles Defense Boosts, as mentioned in the Modded Ability text. So Iron Defense would give you a whopping + 4 Defense. Body Press, however...

*Reads Ability Text*

....If we go off exactly what I wrote awhile back, not only is Kayla's VIT effectively doubled (Did you ever max out that Attribute out at Character Creation? Heck, do you have the PM I sent about Kayla? I seemed to lost mine own copy of that part of things...) , but if said score was used in a Roll it would also be doubled. Alright, let me clear this up a bit:

For Body Press, you simply the Final VIT Score Calculated in the Damage formula. For EX: if Kayla had 2 VIT then got an Iron Defense Boost then 2 VIT -> treated as 4 VIT, the Iron Defense Boost is Doubled and THEN added to her Defense Score (Now *8), and THAT value would be used to calculate Damage for Body Press.

You remember to respond to my Mega-Post in the GameThread, @Lord Windos? Just wanted to ask and prevent it from being buried or forgotten - IfI accidently sent you into planning-hell by dropping all my plans onto you, I'm genuinely sorry, my dear! Do take your time and thought to give it the attention it and detail it might or might not require, and I shall look forward to read and re-read what brilliant things you continue to come up for that sweet serotonin. (Busy today though, so no posts from my Side).

Just got to it, dearest! I actually prefer what you did, in all honesty - unless you got a big idea for an Encounter just listening them all out for me allows for me to get them all Tackled and then presented to you to react in a much more timely fashion, considering the time zone differences that ever stifle our good fun.

Drat....oh well, I hope your day doesn't swamp you too much! I know art imitates life, but I rather Bayhama's condition not Reflect over in drowning you in a slog!

I did find a pm about it where you clarified a bit but it was basically what you just mentioned and I have noted down in my sheet for the ability.
I can still resent it back to you if you want.

With the current 5 vit/8, (still far from max) I'd end up at 10 in calc +4 with idef for a 14, plan is on then for the *one trick pony*

Yippeee, thankies, my dearest Dear~ <3 My serotonie has been replenished thanks to you.

Oh, you PREFER such Mega-Posts from my side? That's actually...great and reassuring to know and noted - in that case expect me to go that way again and list things that way again from time to time whenever possible. Because I enjoy planning things ahead (to a reasonable degree, and bar Fate and Fortune messing things up for the better or worse) and keeping written notes of these plans and ideas.

You missed Minor Encounter #2, aka Bern's shopping trip for offers of the Crimson Rope andca pretty single flower. But since it's a Minor Encounter, I believe it can indeed wait!

Now I do look forward to to Battle and cast spells even more. Hehehe...
